Hello fellow Shifters.
Well my mother recently ordered an EVO (without consulting me) thinking it was "like mine with the keyboard" and she does not like it.
Therefore I told her I would take it and swap it for my Shift.
So as of now, I am no longer in ownership of a Shift and will be have an OG EVO as my "Upgraded phone" which I probably won't use for too much longer.
Anyway this is really my Semi-Goodbye and Good luck post. I will obviously not remain as active in these threads but I can't ever fully leave. Plus I think the EVO4G users are too spoiled and any Themes or Mods I make will be for this phone probably.
I want to say thanks to so many people. Strapped365, Prboy1969 , Drob311,BrandoKC, aamikam, newtoroot,zenulator, Dread 7us and so many others that have helped me and the whole shift community out. There are really way to many to name and you all know who you are.
TL;DR: New phone, you are all amazing, see you around, good luck, hope to make more theme's and mods for you all

And if you are looking for a sense rom, mik's roms are available, but my wife has been running Tommy Tomatoes classic evo rom (very similar to a mik rom), it runs awesome and Tommy keeps up to date on it as well. The over abundance of roms is ridiculous for the og evo...
Salvage mod is a bad ass rom though...

I'll check out mikG again to see if it does, im on salvage mod right now and i gotta say I think it's the best AOSP rom I have ever run. Although the phone is noticeably slower than the shift.. And can only overclock to 1.2ghz? C'mon lol. And yea I still visit the Shift threads everyday. Over here it actually feels like a community while the EVO threads kind of just feel like a resource. But im definitley gonna try and keep up with my themes over here

Overclock to 1.2ghz if you are lucky... My wife's evo acts up at anything higher than 1.175ghz... Cool features for a phone thats seen much better days...

My wife has my old OG EVO. It's definately slower than my Shift. Even if both are on the stock Kernal. But OC wise I never could get higher than 1.2. Anything above 1.1 and it wasn't very stable.

Exactly! Was planning on switching to sprint in jan. This is just in time. Just what I wanted. I do not want a behemoth to carry arround. My nexus one with 3.7 screen is perfect size. All I missed was a slide out keyboard and front facing cam.
One other thing I like to consider though. Which will be more likely to have future OS versions ported? I dont bother on relying on sprint/samsung/htc for updates. I am asking about difficulty for devs. A big reason I was considering the epic is that the nexus s came out running the same platform, which made me think porting new OS releases would relatively easy. Is the shift likely to get new releases faster since it is an HTC product? I know it is impossible to know anything but what are your guy's thoughts on this right now?

Err, not sure if this is sarcasm, as beyond exaggeration it is false. You imply the shift has a slower CPU. Dont count mhz. The second gen snapdragon in the shift will certainly outperform the evo without question and with 45nm tech get better batt life to boot. I agree the Evo is not sluggish though. Which means the shift will be even better. Maybe you just need to ditch sense?
As for screen size that is not a downgrade. It is user preference. I like a nice compact device, not a brick.
Same thing with keyboard. I like getting real work done on my handset. KB is very effective.
If you already know this and were joking I apologize . If you were serious you should really rethink your position and recognize that different things suit different people (the CPU issue however is clear cut that the shift is superior).

Honestly, if your EVO is that bad then you either have a bad device, or you've done something horribly wrong, in which case.. you shouldn't worry about owning a smartphone.. stick to the flips.
In the event that anyone else is in the same boat, I thought I'd share my experience with the Acer Iconia tablet in conjunction with my CM7 Evo. In a word: awesomefulness.
There's no wifi at work (don't judge), so I've pressed my Evo's wifi hotspot capability into action, and I really couldn't be happier. I'll probably die of some sort of radiation poisoning, but I'm good with that. Using Touchdown for Exchange and Docs to Go, I have an ideal manager's tool.
I took a road trip to Arkansas this weekend (from the DFW area), and used the same setup while in the car (I rode in the back seat). Couldn't have worked better or smoother, really.
I've also rooted the Acer, which makes life all that much better.
I share because I care. Props to the CM7 team for turning out such a great product.
How much does it run? I've heard great things about it so far! I want to get an android tablet but I can't decide which one I want. Right now I have an ipad 1 but I would be much happier with android.

Just like there are many tablets, there are many ROMs. The OP is simply sharing his experience with the combination of CM7 and the Acer Iconia.

it was three pics...and no shes the same, i was advised by a friend of mine to stop trolls to simply remove the pics altogether so people like you stop trolling every post i make, it works most of the time, that's why i haven't changed it back...

The over hype of the cm team....? They are referenced the most due to their size of development and everyone knows what they are. Can you tell me of any other phone os that has the reach that the cm team has and conducts its self with all their code being out there and releases nightly builds like Linux distros wtf man.....oh yeah where's your nexus your "agent" guarenteed last week lol

I didn't start this thread to bash or praise any one particular ROM over the other. I'm using CM7 on my Evo with my Acer Iconia ($449 for the 16GB model). The Acer has a USB port, so you can actually charge the phone battery from the Acer battery while the phone provides the Wifi hotspot. I just thought it was cool. YMMV.

First off to everyone that has left or is on a leave, thanks for what you did.
Now, I am looking for some POSITIVE news. I did read that Rob decided to stick with an Epic (love that, Rob is awesome). What else is coming down the pipe? Everyone thinks CM7 will never come, I know its getting worked on, I have tried it, and hope that comes through. What is Bonsai or Viper up to? They both do awesome work. Any new devs out there cookin up some goodies?
I guess I am sick of the looking back, and want to know what you all are looking forward to?
This phone rocks! I just got 42 hrs battery life with the ebay 3500 using SFR and the EE03 Modem. I cant upgrade for a while, so I am going to like this phone.

But Acs was the best IMO but with it gone i will spend most of my time on Bonsai or MidNight....

You know, even though ACS (or ICN) is gone, it doesn't mean this community has depleted. We lost two amazing devs (k0nane and mysteryemotionz), but that should not bring us down! In fact, I bet you if a bunch of the other devs like Rob and Mammon and marcusant, etc. all were to make a new team, I'm sure we could make some pretty sick ROMs. And remember, we still have CM7 in the works by nullghost, DevinXtreme, Dameon, awesome kernels by thomasskull and DRockstar...so just remember, this community still has tons of potential left.

I'm honestly not sure the fate of sr111 120 but as soon as me and jez2cool get more function from our google 2.3.4 build which is the os on the nexus, we will bring everyone in on that and we're trying but I'm a but tied up with the nexus s as well so blame me and the kernel for that delay

My two cents - I dont get people and the "oh, what do I do now?" thing. k0nane and Mystery did some great work, but dont leave it up to other people to do the stuff you want done. I spent a lot of time working with a developer learning linux, and how to compile and tweak kernels, because I wanted to make my own(and understand what I was doing). I spent a lot of time chatting with a themer because I wanted to make my own theme. If you want something done, stop waiting for someone else, and get out there and start learning.
so what happened to viper team. the last rom was pretty sick and i really like the viper pad it works very well when you are using the samsung dock and everytime you go to do something else the music would stop playing thur the usb

The phone it self can sync to your Gtab, flosscarter on youtube showed a video, plus looks like an awesome phone, but the only issue people has is LOS till update around nov - beginning of jan of new year, not to many people had issues, other complaint was the feel of the phone i guess it feels like plastic, which doesnt bother me.
@Indirect I would love to send my evo shift to someone who could use it, but im giving it to my mom :-D since shes letting me use her upgrade.
@notsointeresting I am SOOOO gonna have fun over there. the phones been out for a little over a month and they got a few nice looking roms so far, but not much can be done yet, still early in the game.
With everybody leaving the Shift maybe this forum should be moved on xda to Legacy & Low Activity Devices

We still have new roms coming. we have the Kingdom rom and the Bliss rom will be coming soon to and when ICS is released we will get that too. The shift is not close to being low active. I for one will probably keep using my shift for another 6 months to a year depending if a phone i really like comes out
I've been due for my upgrade for about three months . Not planning to get rid of my Shift for a long time . This phone has proven to me time and again it's ability to perform. Soon as someone gets an OC kernel going, it's game on . IMO the Shift is very underated.
Yea im waiting for next year, the shidt is still going strong

Wow, just when i thought this forum kinda died off a little, i leave and BOOM less than a week of me leaving this phone to my mom and me getting the E4GT, this forum boosted... Same thing happened with me with the HTC hero, When i left my Evo for the shift, 2.3 came out that exact day i was like are you F'n kidding me, and now this one... maybe i curse HTC lol.

Well for all those in the audience saying the. Shift is on the way out. I just came back from the local Sprint store ( know some peeps there ) . We messed around for about an hour comparing phones. Running Quadrent, Antutu, and Speedtest. The Shifty smoked them, only OC'd to 1.4mHz. So I'll be keeping my Shift for quite a while .

I don't know if you guys have read this but I thought I would post it up here to share. Apparently the EVO Shift is reaching End of life along with the white version of the EVO 3D.

This does sadden me a bit, I love the Shift and even using the 3D now I always keep the little guy with me.

Well I wouldn't close the coffin just yet. The EVO Shift has plenty of life in it still.
According to that article the shift is already eol the end of last week... Which was kind of expected, seeeing how htc totally butt ****ed ics by adding the typical htc sense bloat****... I have my doubts, because there is an evo3d on the list that's supposedly being eol'd... It has only been out 7-9 mos... Evo3d is a flagship phone and although it wasnt as popular as sprint had wished, im actually very surprised if that list is indeed true...
Edit: is the evo3d sprints new samsung moment? Lmao!

Boo, it's true, the Shift is no longer an option for buying/upgrading (on Sprint's website).
But, with a proper ICS rom, the Shift should still be kickin' a year or two from now. Here's to hoping the successor will be just as awesome (maybe with HDMI/DP out capabilities?).

Only the White Evo3d is on the eol. Not the Black one, that one is still going strong
This makes me LOL! The same thing happens with all smart phones. When their flagship phones don't sell as much like drob331 said, they tend to pull other devices off the shelvs first in hope that people will upgrade. The same thing happened with the G1/Mytouch. People continued to buy G1's and Mytouch's even after they were no longer available, from places like from ebay and other places. They were still great first generation devices!

Yea of course, just because the shift is reaching EOL doesn't mean anything changing here on xda, ebay, or anywhere else. It's just an extra tag sprint has given it. Yet I still view as a little saddening as the shifts power was under estimated.

I would kill for a Shift 2 to be released! Let's just hope that happens, but maybe with a bigger screen this time...after using a 4.3 inch screen I can't ever go back. Maybe at least 4in for the Shift 2
Shift 2 with a Dual Core Processor, 4 Inch Screen, and the new Tech Battery that's 35% Thinner with more capacity. Or maybe dare we dream the screen that has Solar Charging capability. Hey I can dream.

Same here.
I think I would've been fine with the shift for another year, but the moment I got the EVO I couldn't stand the slower speed, and i couldn't go back to the small screen so I went with the 3D I guess you can call me a band wagoner LOL. Shift is still my favorite device though
