Windows defender is built in antivirus in win8.
I found working
Avg is 2011
AIS 6
NIS 2011
I tried avast and it gave me the blue screen of death
Kaspersky does not work as well. Just use windows defender it has built in antivirus.
i use windows defender on windows 7 and works goods.
It have some many difference with windows 8?
hi did someone try to use ESET SMART SECURITY 5 with W8. i use it in my W7 and it work wonders. i will be intrested to get some feedback about it in W8
"The most secure, reliable windows ever!" <---- does the intro still say that on first-run ?
I'm very surprised to see that people are still immediately installing AV on windows in 2012. Wow !

Well for starters windows defender is not an antivirus but merely an anti spyware. Microsoft security essentials on the other hand would be a proper anti virus. Secondly how on earth are you able to attract 3 viruses in 4 days, you are doing something wrong!

most secure , reliable ???
wow , the OP just got 3 virus , what super powerful virus that can get through this most secure reliable system ...
it is still under development, in beta... so expect a LOT of softwares not working properly
antivirus? why? just use Defender and keep it up to date.
i used avg way back in august and it did noothing but slow me down... useless. And i have pretty risky behaviour browsing and have yet to see what i used to see in other versions of windows. Defender seems to ix nay the need for any of that stuff.

MSE is integrated to Windows Defender in Windows 8. At least going to be.

Not for me, sandbox mode wouldn't work (one of the main reasons I use it) so I uninstalled it.
I'm also using Microsoft security Essentials on windows 8 preview. This is working perfect!

anyone use an antivirus on their vario2 ? I have just put on one from the same company I use for my online backups (1.5gb), anti virus, anti spam and anti malware. all this officially on 3pc's for around 50gbp for 2 years! It all works really well. had a small issue when I first installed it to my V2, that was sorted qjuickly by their 24h support; I had installed the smartphone version!
I can recommend them;

Antivirus for WM devices is snake oil. There is no malware that will affect a WM device without agreeing to multiple popups. Most of the AV is designed to catch malware that will be caught on an on-access scan when you connect to a PC anyway.

Only a matter of time, IMHO. Plenty of idiots out there with nothing better to do.
Is there a free anti virus scanning program that will detect viruses on my phone. I highly doubt I have a virus on my device but you can never be too sure. I have been searching everywhere for a .cab file that runs on WM 6.5 but no luck so far. If anybody has any information on this post, please share.

www.eset.com has a mobile one, I have not tried it.
Lookout makes one along with online back up and theft protection. It'll also do the remote wipe.

Just like all of the OTHER threads on mobile AV, mobile AV is useless crap and a waste of time, money, and resources.

I don't think there's any one better than this.
This is definitely an essential install every time I flash a new ROM
Not so much for the AV, but for the anti-theft capabilities.
It's superb.

Yeah, I know, first post, woo. Have to start sometime so I can whine and complain like everybody else in the Developer Forum
So, I have pretty slow DSL speeds and spent the last 20 minutes downloading the AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5, only for Norton to delete it upon my finished download citing it is 'infected' with ws.reputation.1 which means that less than 100 people who use Norton AV have ever used this file. Thanks Norton, way to be a bro! So remember turn off Auto Protect! Otherwise you will think that the developers have advanced from bricking your phones to trashing your computers
-Some sleep deprived lurker.
Of course once it is downloaded you can open Norton File Insight, and choose the option to make it trustworthy. That way nobody can care about this thread anymore. [=
I thought everyone knew better than to use Norton ?

Yes both Norton and McAfee will really slow down your computer as well as slow down your connect speed. Use one of the other. In fact, AVG free is almost as good and it is free........
Dude go get AVG or AVAST antivirus. Both are free, and both don't bog your system down or cause issues like Norton does.
I can't believe companies like Norton or McAfee are still in business. Mind boggling.
for microsoft systems take microsoft security essentials ... runs extrem good, no probs with serverprofiles like norton ....
You know why they are in business, because companies like adobe pay them to make keygen algorithms for their software come up as viruses and get deleted automaticly in attempt to curb p2p piracy of their programs.

+1 for mse. though, i ran for years with no av with no problems, mse is light and non intrusive enough that i don't mind running it.
...and what was the point of that? Most, of us here have been using Windows 8 for months.

Speak for yourself... It's not coming anywhere near my machine until Metro is gone. I've tried ClassicShell and it's ok, but I'm not really to become a statistic that says it's ok for the removal of user choice (whether to use Metro or not).

Actually he speaks for most of the competent user base of this forum, you know, the Windows 8 forum.
Windows 8 is what its is and that isn't going to change in the next couple of days including the funky new efficient interface, but you are right, you do have a choice, as do we all, ill stand by mine on this forum, the Windows 8 forum, the Windows 8 OS that has "metro" built in, the windows 8 you have chosen to not want and you can stand by that choice.... just Mind the door on the way out

if u dont like the metro interface.. why update to Windows 8?
Like i've seen someone else say.... people have to look at it a different way than "Oh, Microsoft just f*cked up the desktop with sh*tty Metro". They didn't. Metro is basically the Start menu.... the same place that everyone normally had to go to launch an app if they didn't have a shortcut on the desktop to being with.

Not entirely true, but you can surely look at it this way. But those who say MSFT ****ed up are essentially the same bunch who moaned about XP, Vista and Windows 7. You can't win them. They'll moan and sell their kidneys to buy Apple products and then moan there and cycle goes on.
To each their own.
Hej everybody,
I have just gotten my 950 xl. I got it very cheap. I am planning to change it with a nexus 6p. The phone self has all hardware I want, but i am afraid of software problems.
I am a android user since I have moved from Windows Mobile because android is open. I use Web browsing too much. (I use between 15-20 gb!)
Therfore it is nice to be able to block ads. Is it possible on Windows phone 10?
I am not sure why are you afraid of the software problems. Android has also awful lot flaws...
I came from IOS/Android.... and I find them both boring... my XL 950 is on its way ))
as for the Adblock , I am also looking forward to have some info about softwares like adaway...
Hopefully someone will create an ad-block extension for Edge once extension support arrives. Failing that I know Firefox for Windows 10 is at least being worked on. I'd be happy with either!
Windows phone is no go for me without adblock.

I was so exciting when I saw 950xl in first time feel so powerful then I pre order on nov 16 and got it on nov 25.
Phone not smooth as what I thought.
And old issue very less apps sometime loadding a app for almost two minutes. I use it about two three hours it crush two times. Just not for me this time Microsoft still need more I mean much more improve. I just don't get it Microsoft is huge company put so ****ing money on windown phone why they just put some money for improve apps.
But phone design is good.good looking even they make with plastic but you can change battery or back cover that is good.
Every 950(not the xl) review I have read were not bad neither good. I think the big next ting will be surface phone with Intel inside. Then we will be able to run .exe files. I am excited.
Any chance someone will get access to the system folders, so we can use a "Hosts" file?
The first batch of Lumia 950/950XL's seemed to be bad, mine kept crashing and that first update bricked it. The replacement has newer version of OS and runs a lot better.
While, I also like the idea of an Intel based W10M phone. Theres still the problem that Intel has never solved and will plaque any Intel Lumia/Surface phone that's released "battery life" Android may get a lot of complaints about battery life, but its still far better than an Intel based phone so far.

You'd need interop unlock which currently doesn't work on the 950/950XL. Unfortunately those are the only two Windows-based phones which cannot be unlocked in order to modify the hosts file.
Also, Edge in Continuum mode is badly in need of ad-blocking. Ads on some pages (cough, WindowsCentral) totally destroy the browser/system performance when using Continuum, especially since you get desktop pages (not mobile ones).
