[Q] Kindle Fire in Eastern Europe - Kindle Fire General

I ordered Kindle Fire via shipito, and it should be here in coming days. So I will probably be receiving kindle fire with latest 6.2.2 version.
1) What are the next steps to do to get at least android market (so I can download any app) and maybe also root? I know I should probably better use burrito root but what are all the necessary steps before and after (considering I have latest 6.2.2)?
3) And then do you suggest putting miui, cm or staying with stock rom (I am currently using MIUI ROM on my mobile phone and I like it)?
4) If staying on stock what do you suggest to get amazon content (i dont have american address and CC)?

use search for the first questions
as far as the ROM is concerned: i would suggest Modaco 6.2.2 until ICS is ready
amazon content is only available in a few countries , none of which from EE

Adobe Air 3.1 on KF

I want to install the latest version of adobe air (3.1) Since I need it for an app here in Belgium. But whenever I want to install it I get an error message, even after manually removing it with titanium backup. Somebody ready to offer assistance?
PS: my KF is fully rooted, of course!
Nobody ever tried to install Adobe Air 3.1 on the KF yet?
Yes, actually, I've been trying today, because I want to get SharePlus on my KF. It will not install. Check out this link:
forums.adobe.com/message/4305481
(Been using this site for years, but I haven't posted much, so I can't actually post the link properly.)
I'm currently researching and debating installing an ICS ROM. I am trying to find out if the OS version is the problem, or if it won't work on this hardware.

7" HDX - No Fire OS 5 - Decisions to be made

Hi all,
For those of us who's hopes have been dashed, fire OS 5 is leaving us in it's dust.
3rd gen 7" HDX's - I have one lying here - never been rooted or modified thus far.
What advice would members give. What options do I have other than selling it on or dumping it?
Is it time to return it for store credit (had 2 yr warranty - freezes occasionally) or are there roms out there that make it worth keeping?
I am a newbie - and it's the news that we are to be denied this update that is the cause of these questions.
I think many owners will be looking for options - and will really benefit from a discussion on this.
Any views/ideas/comments welcome.

Best option (IMO) is a rollback to 4.5.2 (via 3.2.8), root, install Safestrap v4 and then flash CM11 or Nexus v4 replacing FireOS v4. Yields a 'pure' android tablet with high end specs and full access to the Play Store. Trumps FireOS 5 but a wide margin which I like too. Possible other Safestrap compatible roms might become available now the FireOS upgrade path is known.
I suspect that sending out the message that the 7" HDX 3rd gen will be getting the fire OS 5 update, then apologising and saying 'actually it won't' - will help (accidentally of course) drive sales of newer units.
Currently my device says - OS firmware 4.5.5.
I have heard that a 4.5.5.1 update has been released. Some are speculating it could be an anti-rollback update - in which case rooting could get much more difficult.
For those of us just getting to grips with the situation - how do we block OTA update to 4.5.5.1. If it has already been downloaded awaiting a reboot to install, how can we block that too?

You can not effectively block OTA updates without rooting which requires a modestly complex (and risky) rollback to 3.2.8 followed by an upgrade to 4.5.2. Safestrap v4 and two non-FireOS roms are also options once on 4.5.2.
I say 'effectively' as there are other methods for holding back OTAs such as IP address blocking or temporarily stopping services via clever use of adb commands on unrooted devices. Neither is convenient or 100% effective.
If an update has been downloaded and waiting to install you *may* be able to see and erase it from internal storage when you device is tethered to a host. Look for a. bin file containing the word 'update'.
Really appreciate the input.
Can I please ask for a list of ip's to block.
We can enter them into our router ip blocking fields.

Amazon rotates IPs. That's why IP blocking is only a temporary solution. I have long since lost track of what IPs are currently being used to distribute updates.
BTW - IP rotation is a common load balancing technique. It has nothing to do with trying to circumvent user blocks.
I would now update to 4.5.5.1, root with Kingroot, add Safestrap 4.01, and load the stable Nexus 4.05 rom. that is what I did with my 7" hdx. all can be done within minutes (just be sure to read over the forums for complete instruction if you have not custom rom'd before). runs buttery smooth and brings new life to an awesome tablet. these dev's here are amazing and willing to share their talents for the community.
I am other thor owners - really appreciate the input on this thread.
It's clear that the community suggest putting a custom rom on this device - since amazon have retired it.
For those of us who are newbies:
1. Which rom is seen as the most appropriate for this device (stability / security).
2. What functions/abilities would we have to give up (e.g screen mirroring or so on) by moving to a custom rom (ignore mayday)?

At present the only (Safestrap v4 compatible) rom choices are CM11 and Nexus v4. Both are mature, feature complete and stable. No Lollipop or Marshmallow variants. You gain much a give up little moving away from FireOS v4 as most proprietary functionality can be duplicated via official Amazon apps. Kindle book lending, Amazon's take on parental controls and Mayday are the only capabilities that can't be immediately duplicated. If dissatisfied you can always return to FireOS.
Fire OS 5 on 3rd gen

No. All HDX 7" models (thor) are 3rd gen which will not receive an automatic update to FireOS v5. Whether v5 it can be adapted to run on 3rd gen devices is unknown. Source has only been recently released. Since the bootloader remains locked on the vast majority of HDX devices a 'helper' environment such as Safestrap will be needed. None exist as of this writing.

Definitely been waiting for more information on customizations with the HD10. Had one in the box here waiting for more definitive success.
5th generation fire hd8 8gb here running 5.3.1.0
OTA updates shut off and GApps installed and working. Had lock screen ads shut off for a night but they came back...
No luck yet with root (of course) but willing to post results as software develops.
Thanks for this thread. I have a new HD8 and unfortunately nothing (apart from the Google store) really works atm. Not the tools fault obviously, everything will probably work as soon as we get root.
Mine hasn't been turned on yet. . .so I don't know the OS level, but not sure if that helps with regards to getting root.
Hello everyone,
im looking into buying a Fire HD8 (2016). I need it for writing some python code on the go, so I really need a proper ROM or at the very least Play Store. I know that the 2016 HD8 with v5.3.1.0 isnt rootable yet. How can I inform myself about the progress? Do we know that its still possible? I wouldnt like to buy the tablet just to find out that its the first one where amazon did some black magic and made it unusable for the task
So yeah any idea who is working on it, where, any information basically?
And another question: what kind of OS is the new HD 8 running? Is it again an android with some amazon launcher or did they release a full ROM?
Thanks for the support and all!
Regards

only ones that we know are actively working on rooting are the Kingroot team, they are mostly looking for general Android exploits, and don't really give ETAs
Playstore can be installed without rooting
replacement of Amazon launcher should be possible without rooting

Thanks. Can do. What I have wondered is if any specific version is more root-able than another. . .mine is probably old. . .had it on shelf for a long time.

Hi sd_shadow, thanks for the quick reply! I hope I didnt come across as entitled, wasnt asking for an ETA or anything but my post reads this way.
I am trying to consolidate all the information I'm gonna need on Friday (when my HD8 arrives).
1) disable OTA updates by renaming apps
2) install play services, store, framework etc; let them update
3) ?
Anything I need to make sure it never ever updates OTA?
--
As of how to do it on 6th gen, so far I found this:
Disabling OTA update (by renaming the releavant apps):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67364134&postcount=12
"Installing Google Play Easy (works on 6th gen)"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69029147&postcount=88
- thats the best (only?) instruction for 6th gen I could find;
"Install Google Apps Without ADB/PC"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/development/install-google-apps-adb-pc-t3314420
- for 5th gen, someone in the thread claimed that it bricks 6th gen, still found the explanation interesting and somewhat similar to the one in the previous thread/link;

Disabling updates requires
a) changing file extension for updater apps e.g. .bak
b) delete update apps
only 4 apps are needed for google framework
google account manager, google play services, google play store, and google services framework
the supertool can install them without rooting
I'm using the new 2016 Fire HD 8 OS version 5.3.1.1
I just used the SuperTool to install Playstore.
any idea when amazon is going to enable Alexa Voice Assistant on this model? Its kind of the main reason I bought it

Official Stock Firmware:

Thank you! I was able to use your link to download the official stock firmware this to downgrade my HD 8 5th Gen/2015 KFMEWI from 5.1.3 to 5.1.2 via ADB sideload and then I used RootJunky's supertool to root using Kingroot, then disabled OTA, removed Ads, replaced Kingroot with SuperSU and installed FlashFire.
Now I'm just waiting for a stable Marshmallow (AOSP 6.0) ROM to come along. I'm SUPER jealous of all the attention the HD 7 (tate) is getting, I foolishly tried to flash the CM13 unofficial tate version using FlashFire and fortunately I just got a blank screen and nothing happened. But I really would love to test some different ROM's... do you have any recommendations I should try?

Best option currently for Fire HD 8 5th Gen (2015)?

Hey guys,
I'm a complete noob here.
Recently was handed an Amazon Fire HD 8 2015. It had Fire OS 5.1.2 installed, and I didn't know anything about it, so when I first connected on my wifi network it updated to the latest (AFAIK) Fire OS 5.3.6.4 (5.6.3.0?).
I really want to install a custom ROM, but as far as my reading in this forum allowed me to know, this isn't possible at the moment? So I guess it never will, as this is an older model, and as it seems it wasn't very popular?
So, considering all that, what are my best options to make this thing more usable? Right now it's very sluggish. Even if it's main purpose is for reading PDF files, and browsing the web also mainly for reading news and stuff.
It seems like the RAM is the main culprit with the stock software? Would changing the launcher help?
Also, is it possible to root it with this firmware? What about TWRP?
I'm really looking for help on what's possible to hack in this model with the latest firmware. Most of what I read is directed to the Fire 7 model, and I'm never sure if the methods presented in many posts will brick my Fire HD 8.
I'm also considering just replacing the launcher and uninstalling Amazon apps that are possible to get rid of, to have a lighter and faster system, but I'm not sure what methods are possible without root for this system, and I'm afraid to brick my fire just trying random stuff.
Really appreciate any help.
TIA!

Gracias por la respuesta!
I just managed to install a new launcher and get Launcher Hijack working (got pass the childish app name block from Amazon). It's a completely different tab now. It's flying!
If I just can get the device rooted to remove some more Amazon crap, and get my simple stuff going, then I can be 99% happy!
Another person is willing to help me to root my device using a hardmod found here on XDA. I'll read the thread carefully to find out if my model is compatible. Crossing my fingers here.
Thank you for your help once again!

[Q] List of working ROMs for the Kindle Fire 8 2017

Recently, I installed TWRP recovery for my Kindle Fire 8 2017 (codename douglas), and installed LineageOS on it. However, I notices that some features are a little bit buggy. I tried to search for another android ROM to install on it, but couldn't find any.
Is there any list of all (or almost all) android ROMs that work on this Kindle Fire (preferably based on Android 9+)?
