Hello all,
I'm gonna doing a tutorial in my forum on how to root the .62 firmware with a locked bootloader. So here is what i propose:
Downgrade to an old 2.3.4 firmware with wotanclient
Root with ZergRush exploit
Update by OTA (without PC Companion, Update service or others) to .62 firmware
But the problem is that all the firmware types (german, french, chinese...) are not updatable by OTA to the .62 firmware .
So if you have updated your phone by OTA to this .62 build, please post here what type of firmware are you on.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad engish !
PS: quick answer would be very appreciated
EDIT: Generic Trade Central Europe 3, Generic Trade Nordic and Generic Trade USA (LT15a) firmwares can be updated by OTA (thanks to catapult, SL_Don and jack47 for the information.)
.62 version available for Romania/Vodafone through PC Companion only
i have .62 here in asia via pc companion only, dont why OTA doesnt work,
Just got the update from PC Companion. I'm on the 02 network in the United Kingdom.
Just finished the update, first thing I noticed is that it included McAfee Security version 1.0.0.7 which I could uninstall....
No OTA for .62 is available, root via bootloader unlock.

Ok thanks even if I didn't find the answer
@Flo95: Are you sure ? I read on some forums that people have successfully updated their phones to the .62 build.
Here are some webpages about this OTA update:
http://www.free-download-blog.com/update-sony-ericsson-xperia-handsets-with-4-0-2-a-0-62/
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=repository&id=1010&c=sony_ericsson_xperia_play_r800i_android_2.3.4_ota_system_update_4.0.2.a.0.62
I updated my Arc S using PC Companion
.42 > .62
I am with the CE version of. 42 and received a fota update just an hour ago, but it could not install it. Could it be because of the modded systemui.apk, or because of the root itself. This is my only chance of updating and keeping the root. Locked bootloader.
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk
I heard that this firmware is hard to install by OTA. We must retry a lot of times the update in order that it works :/
Even with a clean (but rooted) stock rom the update is hard to do
Mine just had a software update, added McAfee software, just deleted it. Doesn't look like any major changes until ICS.

Oh,PCC did the update automatically.

I ran the update and the device lost its superuser, it won't remain root
I reflashed and rerooted the device and updated OTA and it's ok and rooted. Untouched system folder is needed.

Can .62 be rooted with unlocked bootloader?
Yes, there's a thread how to do it through recovery.

Nothing for LT15 yet :-(
It works on Central-European FW .42 -> .62
Confirmed by user datagubben http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22103455&postcount=3
I rooted Xperia Mini (not X10 mini)with zerg rush (.42) then deleted google maps from system partition.
Then with OTA upgraded to .62 fw.
Root remains!
Battery is much better.
I guess also CE based fw (HR).

I heard this elsewhere in this forum.
Can anybody confirm?
It seems a bit strange though. Apperantly /system is not completely wiped and replaced with new firmware files. Question is: Is that a bad or good thing??
Cheers
Yes, confirmed. You keep root after OTA from .42 to .62
I used the Central Europe-firmware .42 from Wontan + root and then OTA to .62
But it will not work for LT15I, I tried it and now my SD-card is ****ed up (mnt/partition).
Sorry for bad language...
If that is confirmed, then how about CWM? Can u still use CWM in .62?

UPDATE
This rom is Generic Global Rom for LT15i, i dont know if that works similar to LT18, because i cant test it.

check this out if you have LT15i.

ok, thank you. i will make before a "Restore"-Point with the CWA-Installer. Then i flash the .42 from your link without "wipe data" and i will see, how it works

yes of course. I have all datas (i don´t "wipe data") Now i´ve a rooted .62 with all my datas. Only my own Background was after the update not on my homescreen, but thats no problem.
Bevore I delete now the bloatware, i make a "restore"-point with CWA. So, if in the future a new update come (OTA), i can install the "untouched" .62 and OTA should work without flashing with flashtool.

Sorry for my ignorance bro, but what do you mean by you can't update because I will lose my device's root config? Are you referring to updating from 4.0.2.A.0.42 to 4.0.2.A.0.62 after rooting? But the instruction from the first post said that after rooting update to 0.62. Thanks.
Hi
I have just switched from HTC HD2 to Xperia Arc S.
I know all there is to know about flashing the HD2 (WinMo and Android), but next to nothing (yet) about Xperia. I gather that .62 can't be rooted yet, so you'll have to downgrade, root and then upgrade back to .62 OTA. Does that mean that it will also be possible to upgrade to ICS (when that's ready) from a rooted .62_)?

Hi XDA members
This is a Tutorial for rooting your Arc S/Arc with locked Bootloader:
Check your firmware: It works with .42 but I doesn't work with .62
For the .62 you need to flash back to .42 with flashtool or wotanserver
A lot of people ask how to root the official ICS. Currently there's no methode to root it with locked bootloader. If you have a unlocked bootloader you can try this tutorial. I didnt't write the tutorial!: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-firmware-on-xperia-arc-and-arc-s/
Warning:You are responsible for what you do
How to use Flashtool:
1) Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012 and download flashtool and install it
2) You need to download the .ftf firmware you want and then you put it in the firmware folder of flashtool
3) There's a folder "drivers". Inside the folder is a file named “flashtool.drivers.exe”. Open it and install the drivers for the arc.
4) Switch off your phone and open flashtool as administrator
5) Click on the Flash symbol and select Flashmode
6) Now select the firmware you copied
7) It will ask you to connect the arc. Plug in the USB cable to the PC. Then take your Arc and hold the back button and connect the USB cable to your Arc
8) Once you connected your phone it will start flashing automatically
9) When flashing is finished disconnect it and switch it on (This takes longer than usually)
How to use Wotanserver:
Attention: Wotanserver is no longer free and you have to pay 2€ to flash
1) Go to http://Wotanserver.com and create an account
2) Select the Arc/Arc S
3) Scroll to the bottom of the page and download both: the USB Flash Driver and Wotanclient
4) Install the USB Flash Driver
5) Open Wotanclient and follow the Instructions to connect the Arc
6) Phone settings: enable advanced settings and select the 4.0.2.A.0.42 firmware
Rooting:
Requirements:
-Arc/Arc S (ooh)
-Coffee
1) Goto Settings -> Applications -> Development and check usb debugging
2) Goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 and download the latest SuperOneClick. Attention: Avira AntiVir thinks its a virus so deactivate it before unzipping.
3) Connect your phone with the PC
4) Install the adb drivers (Windows 7 should install them itself)
5) Open SuperOneClick (run as Administrator) and click root
6) Wait and drink the coffee
7) You have a rooted Arc/Arc S and you can upgrade OTA (normal update with the phone) to .62
Finished
If it worked leave a comment here and click thanks.
Can it root .62 ?

now I have .62..How I can flash back to .42?after that I must flash back it to .62 again?
I read you can downgrade using wotanserver.com
Install the generic .42 rom.
Then root
Then update to .62 over the air and keep root
But I haven't tried it yet... let me know if you have success.
You cant flash it back with a flashtool. If you do it, your root will be los. You need first generic rom with 42 baseband like generic europe or generic world. Than you need to root. Than update over the air. The same thing i posted in my thread.

This is quite simple
Download generic 534 (I used for central Europe)
DOWNLOAD FTF
Flash it via Flashtool and root with Kingo or root this way :
tnx @schickel
This method works great. If you don't trust these tools(Kingo root), use Root MANY ANDROID from Bin4ry. I've used this tool without any problems on the downgraded firmware.

Then boot ROM (you will need to restart your device two times to root proper) and you'll get OTA warning you have 257 firmware ready for update.
Download update and let the device flash the update.
And that's it
Now you have newest firmware and you root is here as well...
See ya

You'll get OTA if you use generic or world FTF.
That's why I said - first flash central Europe (for EU countries) and you'll get OTA info about 257 firmware.

I was receiving OTA info but couldn't update - so I know not everyone can update that way.

If u update from phone it preserves root
Make sure to switch to SuperSU app before u update, from any other superuser, works best

I didn't force it. I was running the .534 DK firmware and the update notification has always been there through the sony software update app. I chose the DK firmware over the hong kong firmware because I didin't like the NFC logo always on there and I'd rather my phone say 4G instead of LTE.
You may have to wait for the OTA! Not sure if there is a way to force it on the phone unless someone gets the update.zip after they download it and you flash it in stock recovery? not sure as I've never entered stock recovery yet. my BL still locked.
Damn it I want a nexus 5... but I'm afraid I'll get drunk or something and accidentally wash it like i do the Z1 all the time

We all was in your same situation and I telling you, this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572195 is compatible 100% clean and smooth. Battery Life is amazing. Installed yestaerday and no issues if you do it right, like I did. After unpdate you can also unlock the bootloader, without losing camera, and you are ready for next step, Rooting. To rooting 4.3 at the moment is necessary unlock bootloader. If you follow this steps you will be fine, waiting for the root release for 4.3 but in the same moment you will enjoy your phone updated.
Sorry eclyptos..im confused and newbie for this matter, i'll try this when i get up tommorow morning..better get some rest first.thanks eclyptos!

Is this right eclyptos? After flashing the ftf file for 4.3 i need to unlock my bootloader first, then proceed to rooting? How can i root it, using vroot only?0

No, the FTF 4.3 you can flash without be rooted and with Locked Bootloader like me. At the moment there is not relased any app like Vroot to root Android 4.3. Was relased only another FTF already rooted (Have bugs, they still testing) but to flash that Update Rooted you have to Unlock the Bootloader. So that's why I was telling you to Update to 4.3 and later Unlock Bootloader. If you unlock bootloader in 4.2.2 you will lose the camera, but the 4.3 fix that and also you can Unlock later after update and do not lose the camera. At the moment you don't have to do that because any type of rooting 4.3 is in developing so is up to you. It's your choice.

This link is just a update to 4.3 and is not rooted. It can be flash with Bootloader Locked.
This is a FTF 4.3 already rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988 but is under developing, testing.
Mine is not rooted, is not released a stable method root for 4.3 yet.

Very good. The most amazing thing is the battery, very well improved. Still stock anyway but smooth and clean, no bloatware and a little bit more free ram. You will be happy. Use Flashtool 0.9.13 and flash. Take off sim and sd before do that.

Do not matter what you have now, you will losing the root anyway. You have to flash in default, just like that. To make a fresh install you have to wipe data, cashe and appslog. Install Flashtool 0.9.13 and put the FTF in flashtool folder "Firmwares". Turn-off you phone, keep pushing, all the time, volume down when you connect the usb, wait to install windows drivers, when windows drivers are done run flashtool, keep pressin volume down, click flash on left side, select the firmware and flash again at the right bottom, keep pushing volume down until the flash green bar at the bottom will not start. Done. The windows of flashtool have to be set up like in the picture.
Dont worry i trust your guide and i dnt mind lossin' my apps...i already finish downloading the ncb firmware i will flash this later..i hope sony will put "move data to sdcard" in settings, in there nxt release of firmware..need to sleeo first mate i'll PM you for my reserved questions..
