I have the acer iconia a500 and a samsung monitor with pivot function. if i plug in the hdmi cable i would like to use the tablet in portrait mode, but i found no way. have anybody an idea how to use the tablet in portrait mode if it is plugged to the monitor.
YES
My samsung tv does this also.. GO into the settings of the Monitor/ tv.. there is a toggle to change this in there... You cant do it from the tablet. unless you try the Rotation lock app in the marker.. That could work thou i have not tried it...
thanks for the fast answer. i have a picture attached so you can see how i use my computer monitor. in the monitor settings i can't change nothing. and using a rotating lock app have no effect. the tablet turns every time into landscape...

Hi, I'd like some small utility that will automatically change my screen orientation to landscape whenever I run a specific program. E.g. for TomTom it would be good for the main desktop, not just TomTom, to change to landscape so calls/texts come in the right way round (as I use the device landscape for SatNav).
Alternative could be for it to rotate to landscape when charging in the car charger (but not via USB charger!).
Anyone?

Rotating on power connection is possible but would require someone to write an app for it.

Thanks, but I can't see that it shows how to rotate the screen when I launch TomTom?
You could use MortScript to launch TomTom and rotate the screen.
I can't think of any 'background' application that continuously monitors what application is active and change the screen orientation accordingly, though.
I think it's impossible to detect whether you're charging over USB or over the car charger, though. You *might* be able to detect whether there is an actual USB connection, and deduce from that... maybe.
ZeBoxx is correct I think. It would be easy enough (again!) to have a background monitor, but you tell it you're in car mode or 0 gravity mode or whatever, and it switches by your preferences.
Also switching by active app is doable (VJBigPhone does a similar thing).
I believe BeyondTheTech has posted some info on preparing mortscripts for auto rotation. Clever chap.

Well, if it's easy enough to do - I'm all for modularity of systems.
So if a background application could be made that basically monitors what app is active, and run another application based on an application active state changes, then auto-rotation-by-app and such is easily done in conjunction with one of those screen rotation programs.
Phonealarm can do it easy!
You can set CAR profile to rotate screen just when charge PDA without activesync!
But... this program is not yet WM5 compatible... is beta version... TEST.
yeah, that's what I meant. There's probably no way to detect whether an outlet, car, or computer/laptop/etc. is charging.
But you -can- detect whether there's an active USB connection. If there isn't, you could assume it's on either the outlet or car charger (and similar).
I use the Netflix and Slingplayer apps on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Unlike many apps, they won't flip if you turn the tab upside down. If I'm looking at a long program or movie, it's nice to be able to keep the charger plugged into the tab, which is pretty much impossible with the tab in normal landscape orientation. Is there any technique or app available which will allow or force the screen to run upside down so I could attach the charging cable to the top?

Want this too
It would also have to force the audio to reverse, I think. Sometimes while using Splashtop to watch a video I'll have to charge the tab. While Splashtop will reorient the screen, it doesn't reverse the stereo speakers. This is a pretty device-specific issue, though, so I don't expect a rapid response from the Splashtop people (they still need to fix Bluetooth mouse support in remote sessions!).
Anyway, first world problems and all, but it would be nice to have a fix.
The OS rotates fine so that any edge can be the bottom (or top, depending on how you visualize it) but apps that lock into either portrait or landscape mode use either the HDMI edge or the POGO edge as the bottom and I can't find a way to change this. With a pogo charging cable finally available, I'd like to be able to set my Nexus 10 on a stand with the pogo port on top but that doesn't work with apps that force landscape mode because they are determined to have the pogo port on the bottom.
It seems like the OS should have an option for flipping the tablet's default orientations so apps that want to force landscape or portrait modes can at least be flipped within those modes. Am I missing something obvious?
Hi
I've just enabled the Daydream function but even though it works in both portrait & lanscape when previewing the various options, when I've actually chosen one and plugged it into my charger, it will only function in portrait mode. Is this a bug on my phone or what?
Thx
**Bump** .....No-one else got this problem then??
After more searching on this, I see I'm not the only one with this problem, and it is in fact, a bit of a bug(ger)....
On my Nexus 7 it rotates in landscape mode too...but not on my S4
I have to start Daydream first and put it into landscape mode before plugging in my power connector...it then works OK.
It's been moaned about on various forums etc since last year....but it still hasn't been rectified!
I am trying to play a game on my android phone that is connected my tv via mhl to hdmi adapter. However, the game appears rotated 90 degrees on my TV screen. I believe that is because the developer decided to lock the orientation in portrait mode and then program the graphics and controls as if the user was looking at the screen in landscape mode. Is there anyway to tell the HDMI adapter that the phone is actually in landscape mode even though it was set portrait mode? Thank you for any suggestions.
