Best version of CM7 - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi frenz
Please express your opinion which version of CM7 for Defy is best among all available in terms of following :
1) No. of bugs ( Lesser the bugs better the ROM )
2) Battery back up
3) Speed
4) Customization
5) Least call drops
Currently available options ( please add if I missed any other ) :
CM by Epsylon
CM original
CM Quarx
( Don't forget to vote for your fav )

can you also put link of those zip files of :
CM original http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=umts_jordan
CM by Epsylon
CM Quarx

For me nightly from 02.01.2012 was very stable and well performing. Later nightlies have some lags/restarts/fc's etc
I have no idea who did this, but i downloaded it from Quarx's topic x)

I have never really had any real problems with any CM7 version.
I have predominantly used Epsylon's versions.
1) No. of bugs - very few and nothing that would prevent it from being used daily
2) Battery back up - could probably get 2 days but I charge everyday anyway
3) Speed - fast, never notice any lag
4) Customization - very good for customising, although I use GoLauncherEX to do my customising
5) Least call drops - Never had a problem with a dropped call
I say predominantly because as of 2 days ago I have switched to Maniacs version of CM7, this is only because I was having a problem where clocks showed different times, status bar clock only seemed to update every few hours. But this is not relevant to all users of Epsylons version. but Maniacs has fixed my time issue.
Maniacs and Epsylons are pretty much the same with a few exceptions.
I would recommend both

maniac103 version
https://github.com/maniac103/android_device_motorola_jordan/downloads

Please do not post questions in the Development section.

As per Polls ,till now Epsylon & Quarx are at par .. anybody who has used both ?
Tell about major differences between both ROMs What about inverted image bug

Frenz Quarx & Epsylon are going neck to neck ..!! .. original CM7 is way behind ..!! ...so pls cast ur vote to see which one is better ..!

[Q] [INSERT ROM NAME] would be best

hi, tryin to decide which GB ROM to run on m2
who has tested em all so far? and would you mind
helpin on which ROM has the less bugs and with
the most functionality available on it... cheers.
i think the better are ms2ginger and the ginger blurless
im' using the ms2ginger and i'm very happy
If no bugs is your criterion, then I think deblurred GB by w0ndersp00n is the best option.
I'm using ms2ginger. It's very usable, but I am having a problem where the phone does not recognise numbers as being in my contacts depending on the format they are stored in.
I also had a weird issue very briefly where the screen would turn off when I touched it. So still a little buggy.
thanks peeps will try one soon
It's my first post on this forum, so I'd like to say HI to everyone!
I'm lurking this forum for some time ago and I know, that there's quite intensive paralell development of few mods. I want to completly reinstall my MM2 and - by the way - I want to try to check new custom mods, hoping that there's a chance to improve performance of my Milestone2 .
So I'd like to repeat initial question by xOnerOs - almost a week have been passed, maybye situation have changed - do You still have no objections to sahilarora911's opinion, that [ROM] Mostly Blurless Gingerbread is for now most bugless and most stable among the other mods?
My goal after MM2's reinstall is to have a stable platform with no need to reinstall everything after 2 days due to some critical mega bug .

[Q] Is the latest CM9 Eppy's ?

Hi guys i'm very confused about Cm 9 nightly builds.
Is Eppy's 13/05 Buils is the stable vesion?
As far as I know there is no stable versions for the defy!
CM make stable versions but not for the defy well not the defy+ anyway and epsylon mods the CM version to work on defy with other mods as well. Like tweaks and he may add things and remove things.
So no its not stable. I dont think there is a stable CM9 build, the latest Stable CM build is CM7.1 AFAIK and it may be used by epsylon or quartx or other moders but I dont call that stable.
here is CM lastest stable version for the defy (not sure if it works on defy+ as its just a jordan version and there are no jordan+ versions)
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=jordan
Edit: so you know a stable version is considered one that would run like a stock version and one you can trust to put on other peoples device that would not know how to mod it. All the rest come with risks and they could work perfectly fine for you and not so well for others. From what I have found defy can be a real pain to work with and there is no real time support (by real time I mean we have to have modders like epsylon and quartx to mod the ROM's that are made but say CM to work on our devices) and the defy having so many makes and variations then there is alot of conflict and what works on one device may not work on the same one for another person.
Its a real pain and the bootlocked on the moto phones are a real downfall. I found out today that telstra got the defy as it meet there spec for rural service and MOTO changed them specs before shipping it out then telstra got them to change it back to the original. So the same device has so many different changes its not funny. As well as the cameras and batteries and all that so who knows what else has been changed!
Nightly's are not stable..
just try a nightly..if everything wat u need works fine then stick to it..so give it a try for atleast 1 week..
If you meant the latest version then it's Quarx' Version from May 11. Currently I am running this one on my Defy+ and for me it runs pretty reliable, but it's still not called "stable". More like "alpha" or "beta".

[Q] Most stabe custom rom recommendation?

Hi guys, I've just recently purchased a U8800 (NOT pro, just the normal one).
I did some research already and the more I read, the more confused I am. It seems that many roms, especially the MIUI ones all have similar problems related to performance, wifi issues etc.
And speaking of MIUI roms, I'm not sure which one is the better one (in terms of speed and stability). Here're the ones I'm referring to:
[ROM] MIUI V4 based Elite ROM SX - (Stable) - 2012-07-14
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562661
[ROM][MIUI-V4][2.8.3][3.0.8]CrazyMiui|08/05|{SMOOTH,FAST AND STABLE}
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690156
MIUI PORTUGAL V4 - 2.9.29.1 (Base GenoKolar)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928336&highlight=miui
It seems that some of them are based on GenoKolar's MIUI rom, and that some are based on other people's roms.
The same applies to other non-MIUI roms, such as this one:
[ROM] Elora 1.10.13 - 2012-10-13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798031
which is a hybrid of DZO's Alora rom and some extra added stuff from other roms.
Anyway, I'm really confused by which one to try. I don't want to risk bricking my device or going through the trouble of testing each one and experiencing the problems or bugs, and then try the next one and so on. I was wondering if someone could kindly provide some suggestions as to which rom is the most stable and is decent in terms of speed/performance.
Also, by stable I mean that it has the least bugs OR that it has the minimum amount of critical bugs that could affect the phone's daily use.
Thanks in advance.
Personally i think that for daily use ezet's CyanogenMod 7.2 with .32 kernel is the best considering performance, battery etc. but it is kind of outdated since dzo has made a pretty stable ICS rom(Aurora) which is a lot newer and smoother but with a few bugs remaining. Not to mention that dzo is from the same city as you haha!

Thanks for your reply!
Ya I also think that CM 7.2 is quite outdated, even my Motorola Milestone (which has locked bootloader and no custom kernel support until recently) is on an even newer CM RC release, I think it's on RC3 or RC4 now.
And ya I also agree that Dzo's Aurora rom is probably the most updated one around here but I did read a few comments in the last few pages about certain bugs so I dunno if I should flash it or not.....
I prefer Aurora 4.1u1 for daily use. There's still some bugs, but with some time and understanding of how to find the reason of your problem you'll get the most recent and stable ROM for U8800 now. Also Dzo's back and he is working on the update now so it wouldn't take long to fix all the bugs remaining.
Hi!
Actually i'm with Elora. It's pretty cool and stable.
Best regards
MIUI PT, based on Geno's version is the way to go., in my oppinion.
Very stable, nice and weekly updated
But, honestly speaking, althought every rom as its ups and downs, nothing like you try them all and see which one adapts better to your needs. :good:

[q] miui 2.5.25

Hi guys,
Does anyone still have this version of miui by Will5 on his hard drive? I can't download it from will5 thread.
It would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I know it doesn't help your problem much, but have you tried CM10.2 yet? It is such a better ROM in every way than any other I've used on my trusty MS2, Will5's MIUI included.
Thanks, but I actually use cm10.1 by Tezet. It's the most stable and smooth (after some optimizations such as disabling a lot of apps in hwa acceleration) for me. Everytime I try cm10.2 from czeshop or englemars I meet some problems like with bluetooth ad2p, some reboots or hangs... they are not enough finalized IMHO. Now I put all my hopes in kitkat
Anyway, going back to topic, I wanted to find this version of MIUI for my other MM2 to check the difference of performance between this good old miui that I really enjoyed back then and CM10.1. But I am afraid that no one hes this version of MIUI on their hard drive anymore
I finally manage to found that latest version of GB MIUI and it's such a pleasure to find it back. It's so much faster than any of the other roms I have tried. I've been on tezet's CM10 for almost a year, but going back to this miui rom makes my phone ultrasnappy! I forgot that pressing the phone button could make the dialer appear in less than 3 seconds... same for SMS and almost everything in the phone!! You click, it appears, period. No waiting time.
I'll still follow the evolution of KitKat, but even kitkat (I've only tried Engle-Mars one) is not as fast and quick responding as this good old MIUI for the moment. I hope dev will manage to optimize them to that level of snappiness!
I would recommend using KitKat. For me it turned out a lot faster than the CM10.x versions :good:
I don't know about the Engle-Mars Version, but the one of Czechop still reboots on me once a day. Featurewise they are both already on par with Tezets last Rom(but faster).

Rom Recomendation please

Hey guys can anyone recomend me a nice 4.3.1 rom(or even 4.2.2) that its not PAC or SLIM(including SLIMSABER by fusionjack and SABERPAC by nico_60) ?. also from 4.4.2 roms no RR OMNI OR BEANSTALK, i cant get good battery life out of them, not even with apolo extreme v1 which gave me tons of hours on 4.3 and 4.2.
In case you wonder why not pac or slim here it is:
SLIM(Saber or not)(4.2 and 4.3) always gave me FC on Facebook and Whatsapp a few times a day, clean install rom nuke whatever you want makes no diference (even hardcorepawn and fusionjack didnt know what to do to help me after i send them my logcat)
PAC(saber or not)(only tried 4.3, maybe i should try 4.2 stable release) always gave me hot reboots, only one per day but its annoying.(stock kernel clean install rom nuke everthing, i even did a full format emmc just to be sure)
so please when you recomend please dont try to convince me slim or pac should work fine... i been flashing roms like crazy since gingerbread i know my ways on the S2 i9100. they re Amazing roms and i d love they work great on my phone, but they dont u.u
thanks a lot guys sorry for making this too long ahahah
I am a noob but I tried carbon v1.8 (based on 4.2.2) for 1 month plus. it's stable and battery is fine. maybe you can try?
I am using slimbean official now (based on 4.3.1) for also 1 month plus. I didn't encounter your problem. Is it hardware issue?

carbon v1.8 Great recomendation. I loved carbon 4.3.1 but they didnt correct the auto rotation bug they simply jumped onto 4.4.2. so 4.2 seems like a good idea thanks
I dont think its a hardware issue as it only happens on slim. i thinks simply its just my phone(maybe related to my country and my provider, as a friend of mine here in argentina has exactly the same issue) dont like something inside the rom ( although we all have a i9100, every phone its diferent).
gonna try Carbon 4.2 and PAC 4.2 keep recomendation comming guys

most welcome!
personally, I feel 4.2 is still more stable than the 4.3 roms out there. post your results after trying! :fingers-crossed:
