[Q] Importing Contacts...? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I unlocked my old MT4G for my roommate who's on AT&T. When I tried to import his contacts from his sim card, the only option was "Import from SD". Short of putting my SD card in his phone, transferring contacts to it, then transferring them into his new MT4G, is there any way of retrieving contacts from an AT&T sim?
Sorry if this has been asked before.

I know on several roms and probably stock that in an email/text message you can hit the add attatchments button and there should be a "contacts" category so just email or text message them from your phone to his?

Search for SIM contacts on market. It allows importing from SIM to phone.

So I'm confused as to what's different from this and my G1 with 1.6. I have synced my contacts and when I go to contacts from the home screen I see them all (with the little g next to them), but when I try to assign a ringtone to an individual contact as I did on my G1, it takes me to an empty contact list with no option to see my contacts. What's going on? Already getting tired of ToughWhiz getting in the way of my Android experience.
Niceee....of all the things I had trouble on it was this... I feel dumb lol

Doesn't work from google contacts. To assign ringtones to fiddler contacts I'm using Ringdriod. Anyone else has any solutions for google contacts?

Ringo Lite. It's a PITA to have to install a separate app but it works perfectly.

Bluetooth File Transfer

I was trying to send my brother who has a my touch3g a few files and couldn't get our phones to connect. What's the deal? Do I need an app?
Both our phones had bluetooth on and were discoverable. I did file transfers before on my old phone. Help please fellas.

I only use bluetooth to exchange files with my laptop. I use dropbox to share files with friends and find it easier and more convenient.
Do you have to use drop box? Can the phone do it stock?

I never tried a phone-to-phone bluetooth transfer with my MyTouch 4G. I stopped that a while ago when most of my friends got iPhones and could no longer do bluetooth transfers. I don't see why it shouldn't be able to do it though. If I had another phone to connect with I would test it.
I've transferred from myTouch 4g to blackberry curve. Thats without an app. If I'm not mistaken the myTouch 3g doesn't support phone to phone. Was introduced in the myTouch slide. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, you don't need an app. You can transfer and receive pics, music, videos and probably more as long as the other phone supports it. If not supported then yeah app would be useful.

On the myTouch 4g long press on the item you want to transfer or hit the share button then hit via Bluetooth. That's how I did it. Now if you're trying to transfer to the myTouch 3g, remember it does not support file transfer through Bluetooth. That's when you could probably use an app. Try "Bluetooth file transfer" app in the market if transferring to mt3g. That's the only one I've checked out before.
Try transferring to different phone as well without app.

For facebook profiles you have to use Facebook application first, it'll ask you whether to sync with you're current contacts or not

go to contacts... Then choose the contact you want and edit it. On the edit screen press the option button, the one next to Home button, and an option will come up "join" click on it and choose other contacts you want to connect it to

[Trick] How to send SMS using your beloved Tab!

Am not sure if this is discussed somewhere.
Anyway, just to share.
Here's how:
Every mobile broadband card comes with a number, and that number will be used when you send / receive SMS.
- Download official Go SMS Pro here and install on your tablet
- Launch the app and send SMS to your other mobile number that you are using to make calls
- The sender number is what your friends will see when they read your SMS from Tab!
Enjoy
On European 3G devices, there is a stock app called Messages, so i don't think that third party app is needed.
For those with the wifi only version , check out TexTab.

Until Verizon releases Touchwiz for the LTE versions, this seems like a good alternative. I'm going to test it now.
EDIT: Does not work on mine, says "cannot send message, will send it when the service becomes available" and that message sits there forever until I uninstalled it.
That's because verizon blocks text messaging with their tablet plans.

Interesting... Strange that they advertise it as a capability, and plan on including it with their touchwiz update.

Yea I work for verizon and whenever I sell a tablet, a provision is loaded onto their account called "block text messaging". It's very odd indeed since the original galaxy tab allowed you to pick a texting bundle.

I simply use Google Voice on my wifi Tab. Works perfectly.

I been using Heywire and it works well, gave me a regular US number.
If anyone has a 3G tab with Touchwiz, but no Messages app. Try to send a sms to your data plan number, i think that the Messages app appeared after i received the first sms message from my operator.

Same thing happened to my wife's SDcard, in her G2. I have no clue how it happened. I ended up just formatting the whole SDcard i didn't feel like messing with it.

I believe you have to hook up your phone to the usb and laptop/computer make sure it disk drive. Then your. Computer picks it up, now open it on your computer right click on the folder where your other folders are.. go to properties and I do believe at the bottom you gonna see 2 "read only and hidden" option uncheck the read only. Sorry for the confusions.

I got it working I put the SD card on my EVO 4g and it got rid of read only and just put it back on my mytouch

Formatting is another option. But you going to lose all data store on the SD card.
