Major lag when using SMS app - Xperia Play General

Hello,
I have a Verizon play and I am getting major lag with the stock SMS app. I tried to restore the phone and nothing seems to fix it. It lags when switching from different text threads, and there is em en a delay when sending a message. Is there a fix for this ?
Thanks.

Make sure your auto message delete is set to 50... and when you have a lot of messages (more than a page) and a lot have pics, do a delete all threads and clear them out

[Q] Droid X SMS Lag

I've been having lag recently withing the SMS app. I will open it up and it's slow/sluggish and it takes my contacts pictures a while to load.
I know there are SMS apps like Handcent and Chomp, but I'm not a big fan of them. They've deleted all my texts multiple times and the interface looks cheap to me.
I delete my SMS threads every week or so and I do not have a lot of MMS messages in these threads. Does anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, have a fix for it?
Thanks.

I use handcent every day since the DX was released and it has never deleted any of my texts...and you can change the interface as well. And for what it's worth, haven't noticed any lag with it either. I just love the quick reply
Had a similar problem with my contact list...it was because I had removed atcmd.apk. Have you removed any bloatware?
Handcent > Stock messaging app
And if it deleted all your texts, you probably hit the delete button
I have removed bloatware so I'll need to check into that.
As for Handcent; it deleted all of my SMS messages twice. It originally did it to my friend, but I figured he was the one at fault. Shortly after that my texts got deleted. This never happened on the Droid X, only on the original Droid.
I just don't like the way the Handcent interface looks on my X, even though the stock SMS app is hideous in its own right.
i agree with you whole heartedly. i dont like chomp or handcent.. i know a lot of people do.. good for them. but i really want just the stock android 2.2 messaging.
I have the same problem. If I get a text notification and I select it from the pull down notification bar it takes forever to load. I've used hand cent and I got even more loading lag with that app so I uninstalled it. I'm wondering if its my conversation sizes or I'm running or of ram
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
How does DX handle deleted messages? I was just wondering bc I am used to Sense on WinMo and I would delete my messages - but then I noticed one day it stored all my deleted messages as well. Go figure.
Does DX work the same way? (haven't got mine yet) I mean could it be that you have hundreds of deleted texts hiding somewhere waiting to be emptied like on HTC Sense/WinMo?
I just wanted to let you guys know that I installed the MMS.apk package from the original Droid Cyanogen 5.0.8 build, and it works swimmingly. I used Titanium Backup to backup and remove the Motorola Text Messaging app and have seen no issues.
Also, if any of you have had a problem with receiving messages 2 or 3 at a time, (duplicates) this solved that problem for me.
hey where can i get my hands on that MMS.apk? please

[Q] Text Message Timestamp Issue?

Am I the only one getting this timestamp issue? I did a search and nothing popped up so I thought I'd make a thread and see if anyone else is having this problem.
All the texts I receive are always above own texts cause the timestamp is out of wack.
Also,
I'm using the stock Bell stuff for now, I got root and S-OFF, just waiting to debrand and flash the other rom.
So are you getting the timestamp issue?
yes but SMS Time Fix from the market fixes it easily...
Not really. Im going to download handcent to fix the other timestamp issues that sms time cant fix
Sent from HTC Desire Z using XDA App
Nope, no issues. But message app likes to scroll when I'm writing sms, the only thing that bothers. Also, sometimes nofitications show when I already read a message

I had both of these issues when I was running the Stock Sense ROM on my Desire Z. Since rooting and flashing CyanogenMod ROM, the problems have been fixed. I have also noticed that the messaging app is much faster in Cyanogen.

Slow Interface for Text Messages

I am not sure if it is just me or everyone else is also having this problem also:
The Message app interface is really slow. It takes a long time to load or send messages. There is atleast a 5+ second delay when interfacing with different threads. For example: When I am reading my txt messages from person A, and then I press the back button to view all my messages, it takes atleast 5+ secs to go back to the view with all messages.
To troubleshoot this issue, I backed up my mmssms.db file and deleted it from the phone. This way I start fresh with no saved message. All of a sudden this issue was solved. The interface was fast again with no lag at all. But when I restored my original mmssms.db again, the interface becomes slow again.
Any way resolve this issue?
Edit: I am using the MDJ FroYo Revolution v2.3 NAND build.
Is this problem occurring in the Android ROM you have in your signature, or in WM?
If it's WM then you need to update your ROM as there were SMS lag issues in early WM ROMs.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Well I have less than 1000, so that may be your problem...
Well I don't want to delete all my text. I like having all the conversations saved. Is there any fix for this issue?
I can't suggest a solution that would make the messaging app quicker with that many texts, but I use an app called SMS Backup+ (available free on the Market) and it automatically backs up all messages (and new messages) to your Gmail account, in a new folder called SMS. That way, you could delete them from your phone and still have access to them.
Alternatively, try an another SMS app, like GO SMS (again, free on the Market, as are many others). It may be better for you.

I installed GO SMS. Really like the app, thanks for the tip, although the interface is still slow.
Also, I have been noticing my text messages keep randomly being deleted. Luckily I have them backed up and have to restore it. I have noticed this problem atleast 4 times during the last 4 days. Why is this happening? I made sure to go to Settings and uncheck limited messages.

Long SMS problems?

Hey all,
Android 2.3.3 rooted & unlocked, UK Vodafone .145 build.
I can't send longish SMS messages (or MMS), usually when it's 3 long. So far I've been lazy & just condense them to 2 long. Today it's pi$$ed me off in that 2 long have been stuttering too.
Anyone else have this problem? I Googled it & checked my network settings & they appear to be fine.
TIA
Rixter
A friend of mine has the exact same problem, but so far we have been unable to solve it. Have tried installing handcent to solve the problem, but no luck. Her phone is the standard arc no changes from stock, except we installed handcent and slideit keyboard.
Anyone has any solution to this?
I had the same problem on 2.3.2, now on 2.3.3 i use go sms and it hasnt been doing it
Do you keep all of your messages?
Im using the standard app, and in message conversations if i delete the previous messages i dont have a problem sending messages 2/3/4 in 1 go but if i try to send a message 2/3/4 to my girlfriend because i keep all her messages, i must have nearly 3000+ on there, it lags slightly. so try deleting some messages or use an app from the market to back them up to your sd card so you dont loose them
after almost 2 years from the last post, I am having a similar issue: I can't send sms larger than "3" sms. I have a Live with Walkman, using CM10.1. maybe this is a more complex problem than I thought...

MMS not working after a few days on any stock based rom.

Hello,
I've been having this issue on stock and any stock based rom. Currently on WETA 5.0.7 on a US996 unlocked.
MMS works fine at bootup, but after a few days, pictures are not downloading. Using google messenger, shows downloading and never does. The LG app doesn't even show that an image was sent and needs to be fetched.
I tried disabling/enabling data to no avail. Only solution I've found is to reboot the phone and then force the download.
Any ideas of culprit or solutions?
Thanks

Same issue here, it also keeps converting almost all of my sms to mms. Any added emoji automatically changes it to mms. Most the time all my sms sent to me come thru as mms. Tried multiple SMS apps. So far android messages seems to kinda work.

I doubt we'll get an answer since people probably flash their phones every other day and reboot it!

Thanks..will give it a shot when it bugs out!
Sigh, I too have the same issue. A reboot fixes it. When it was acting up I tried Chomp SMS and chomp didn't even detect any of the pending messages. Maybe I didn't wait long enough? Anyway I rebooted and then Google message picked up the mms messages. Super frustrating LG! Of all the various phones I've had in the past, I never encountered this issue...
