box.com free upgrade for Xperia owners.. - Xperia Play General

Just a heads up, for a limited time, if you sign into your box.com account from your Xperia device, the account is automatically upgraded from the free 5gb account to a 50gb. For those that don't know about Box, it's pretty much just like Dropbox. I actually just installed it on my son's Xperia Play just to login and upgrade the account, then I uninstalled it from his phone.

That's great to know. How does it stack up against Dropbox?

I like the web interface better, and it's easier to copy a shared link. With Dropbox, you have to place the file in the public folder if you want to share it. The one area where Box has an epic fail is that they want you to upgrade to a pay account in order to get a desktop sync client. Hopefully this will change in the future, but right now all of your uploading has to be done through a browser or a mobile client. I believe there are some 3rd party apps which may help out, but the actual sync client from Box only comes with a paid account. For this reason, I keep both Dropbox and Box. I only have the 2gb account with Dropbox, so the 50gb with box comes in handy for larger files.

Thank you!

Thanks for the heads up. Should come in handy.

Not quite. It was reported a couple months ago, but Box wasn't honoring their end of it. I guess Sony had let the promo slip before they were supposed to. Now I'm not sure when they got it fixed, but I just noticed it a couple of days ago. Anyway, no need to be an ******* about it. As you can see from previous posts, there are some that were not aware of it.

Samsung giving out +2GB on Drop Box to Note owners

EDIT: APPARENTLY, ONLY WORKS IF YOU ARE BRAZILIAN. Sorry for the rest of you guys, I didn't know that =/
I'm not aware of any topics stating this, so I'll publicize my discovery. If everybody already knows, please forgive me for being the slowpoke.
If you register your product's IMEI on the site you get a coupon for Dropbox that, when inserted, gives you another 2GB of storage.
I'm not sure if other countries have this promo, so if your don't, go into www.samsung.com.br, it's the brazilian site, or chose the country in the location selector. In the lower left corner of the screen there is a big dropbox icon that is the promotion thing. The instructions should be easy to follow even in a completely unknown language, or you could use Google Translator. Here goes a quick run-down anyway:
The first stage (Etapa 1) simply teaches you how to download dropbox from market. If you have to follow those instructions, don't forget to jump out the window afterwars. So just click "avançAr" (next).
The second stage teaches you how to create a dropbox account. I don't believe a single being in this forum doesn't have one, so... next.
The third stage is where you have to create your Samsung account if you don't have one yet. After that, you'll have to register your product via IMEI, which is in Settings - About Phone - Status.
As a last step, you'll get your coupon on the Samsung site, then you have to go to www.dropbox.com/coupon and insert the code.
Enjoy and click "Thanks" if this helped you =)
the site did not recognize my existing samsung account, when i enter my email it wanted to create a new one. this was not possible because i dont have a valid CPF (brasilian tax number)...
I though it accepted worldwide accounts. My bad =/
I really want this to work, but it's not taking my dropbox email. I'm pretty sure I have a brazillian note.
If you want more space on Dropbox, just make virtual PCs and "invite" them to your account. You don't even need a real e-mail to register now. No need to give out your personal data to a brazilian website.
I've already hit my referral limit (with actual referrals). Who says I'm giving samsung brazil my personal information?
Edit: I've somehow made it to the part where it asks my IMEI, but it's not taking it... Oh well! I am 95% sure my note it Brazilian.

You could always use a site like http://www.geradorcpf.com/ to generate a fake cpf.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
well, it worked for me, using both the CPF and IMEI generators There goes an extra 2gb
I wouldn't be bothering with Dropbox since box.com gives out 50gb, but both Titanium Backup and SafeWallet both use it, so this is my everyday cloud service.
Next step - this weekend - is to bump up the storage another 8gb (depending on just how long each loop takes) via referrals on virtual pc's, as mentioned above. This link explains how: http://tippopotamus.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-get-525gb-on-dropbox-with-free.html
Don't see any dropbox images on the site :\

I thought it was only for LG and sony experia arc handsets?
For those who download the new Android Box app, or upgrade their existing app, the company is throwing in 50GB of free storage for life, while file upload limits will jump to 100MB. A normal Box account provides 5GB of free storage. The company has done this with other app launches, like iOS, which received 1 million downloads in the first five days.
Box > Dropbox, love the 50GB very useful.
Both my Box accounts said upgraded to 50GB .

free 50GB is great although there is a 100MB file limit
100mb upload makes it pretty pathetic to me, & I certainly ain't got 50gb of photos & videos under 100mb.
If the 100mb limit isn't removed, they could offer people 500gb+, its just a word - as people won't be able to use it due to the upload limit.

very useful !
Two good deals have arisen for android users lately to do with cloud storage. Dropbox with up to 5gb free earned storage with using their camera upload and unlimited upload filesize limit, and now this, box.net with 50gb but only 100mb upload filesize limit.
Why can't one of them take the initiative and give 50gb free storage and unlimited file size upload limit!?
I have to say that at the moment dropbox has got my attention because this is old news from box.net. Especially since pc sync software from dropbox is free opposed to box.net's paid business pc sync!
On the other hand, they are businesses in it to make money!!

AT&T specifically opted out of this promotion, because they want us to use their crap-ass AT&T locker.

I personally used a modified APK that someone whipped up a couple months ago (and got banned from XDA for it, i think), that tricks the Dropbox servers into thinking that you're connecting with a new S III or Note II that has that promotion, and gives you the 48GB of space, but you have to do some extra tweaking, since your Android's device ID (not IMEI) is stored in Dropbox's servers, and if they see that same ID as an S IV (or Note 1 in my case), then they'll revoke your space.
Totally not endorsing it either, the Dropbox team are some cool dudes, don't do them over.
It's not all that worth it either, they only give you the space for a year and then drop you back down.
YMMV, but if you sync a drop box account on a T-Mobile Note 2 you will get the bonus space.
I had a Note 2 for awhile and with that bonus I'm up to 78.8GB now.
My guess is you could go into a store and do it on the demo model...but I can't really recommend this and can't promise it'd work.

Did you remember to Claim your 50GB Dropbox Space for 2 Years

Since I already claimed it when I bought my Note 2 a couple of years ago, they wouldn't give me this offer again when I tried to register with the same account. I know I should have signed up with another account but I really don't need one or I can just easily find another free cloud storage.
I just used my another gmail address to get 50gig since I still have my note 2. Now on my pc I have two instances of dropbox running.

As the OP has stated to me in another thread, all you have to do is create a new account and you will get your 50 gigs. I did this last night and worked great. Got another 50 gigs for another 2 years.

This happened to me too. I'm pretty upset about it too. One of the reasons I chose the Note 4 was because of this offer.
Now I'm cleaning out my dropbox of the huge stuff so I can use it for simple backup. Because of this fiasco I doubt I'll ever pay for dropbox.

Open the app on your phone and create a new account. You will need a computer as well. Part of the process of getting the 50 gigs is to install it on your computer, add some files and a couple other things. Once you have done that, the drop box account will update to 50.75 gigs.

Did you get a list of things to do from the site on your computer? Meaning, when you went to the site on dropbox to download the app, you should get a set of instructions on how to proceed. Once you meat 5 out of 7 of the requirements, you get the 50 gig upgrade and it is automatic. You should receive an email as soon as you meet the requirements.

Best thing to do is associate another e-mail address you might have with a new Dropbox Account when signing up through your Note 4. You must be having a T-Mobile Note 4 to do this.

I'm assuming you availed the 50GB from a previous Samsung offer other than pertaining to the Note 4.
To transfer the data, share all the files from your old account to the e-mail address associated with your new account. From there, go into your newly made Dropbox account, you will see all the files you shared with yourself from your old account. There will be an option to Add all the files currently shared with you, to your new Dropbox.

Set it up on your phone, then go to the dropbox website and perform the pre requisite tasks, ie: save a file to drop box etc.
Bare in mind that if you're a returning dropbox user and have previously got a 50GB dropbox offer and it hasn't yet expired then you'll have ended up wasting it , as far as I'm aware that's how it happens. If it were me I'd use mega as its 50GB for life. For free. Not a measly 2 years, at the end of the two years you lose the storage and anything attached to it.
Dropbox isnt great.
