I followed [GUIDE] Installing a Rom/CWM recovery/Kernel/Root or going back to Stock for NEWBIES! Section 3 for an MTD. I want to put on the Vanilla Gingerbread ROM someone made. But when I did the Odin I got a fail.
My Fascinate is rooted and running Hardware version: I500.04, Firmware: 2.2.2, Kernel: 2.6.32.9, and build SCH-I500.ED05. I have CWMR 3.0.0.8 w/ ROM Manager v4.8.0.2.
I have tried everything I can think of and everything I could find in any forum especially this one and for the life of me can not get it to go. Any assistance is of great help. And if anyone is in the Fayetteville / Raleigh NC area that could offer me a actual hand in doing this would be of really great help.

What failed in odin? going by what you posted, you didnt follow the guide. Also you need to use cwm4 fixed for cm7, not cwm3 which is exactly what the guide specifies.
Could me running Windows 7 64-Bit have anything to do with it not working?

if your on a stock rom now. just odin cwm4, three finger into recovery wipe all three, then flash the vgb zip. basically follow the guide from steps 13 on.
What Odin version?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Odin3 v1.3
I may just have gotten it to work. It is taking awhile to load the new ROM however. I am not sure how long I should let it boot. Its been sitting on the SAMSUNG screen for about 5 min.
Three finger back into recovery and reflash. sometimes you have to flash twice to get mtd roms to take.
It worked. Thank you very much.
Your welcome!
I got it to work. But now it wont let me log into the market and gmail just does a flash thing and goes back to the apps screen.
Thats because u need to flash gapps...read the bottom of section 3 in the guide.
yep, did that and everything works great now. Thank you everyone.
Galaxy Note N7000.
Was running stock ICS-ROM Samsung.
Always wanted to install and use a custom ROM but was always afraid of BRICKS..
But yesterday ended up being sucessfully running CM9.
Steps I undertook were as follows:
1. Installed Samsung Kies.
2. Check for update from Samsung Kies and updated Kies.
3. Connected my phone to Kies and checked if Kies detected the phone properly.
After sucess, exit Kies.
4. Downloaded PC Odin from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=815370&stc=1&d=1323799721
password:samfirmware.com
5. Download pre rooted GingerBread ROM
SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip (thx dr.ketan)
http://d-h.st/HJM
6. Run PC odin
7. Reboot Note in download mode
vol. down+home+power buttons
8. Connect Download mode note to PC
9. PC odin ID:COM turns yellow:
(ALL THE BEST NOW)
10. In PC ODIN
Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time ---> Ticked
Others --> Unticked
10. Click PDA and select the SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip you had downloaded.
Click start.
Wait for 10minutes.
Your phone will restart.
11. WOW..!!! now ur on a GB Rom
And its a safe kernel
Now you can play around
Plus already rooted
12. Now to get this GB Rom working
go to recovery mode (vol up + home + power)
clean dalvik cache and wipe data and factory reset
13. Time to install CM9
14. Download
CM9 latest nightly:
http://get.cm/?device=n7000
Googleapps:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
15. Copy these 2 files in the internal SD card anywhere (do not rename)
16. Reboot into recovery mode:
vol up + home + power
17. Flash the 2 files from where you saved them:
"install zip from sd card" option in recovery mode
now flash cm9 file
then flash gapps file
18. DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET
19. Reboot
And wow..
Enter the world of custom ROMS
[[[to switch to another ROM, follow steps 1 to 17, and after that flash the ROM of your choice]]]
Steps 6 and 9
it shud be PC Odin Not Mobile
sorry dr. ketan

Yes, you can follow this guide safely. Actually, this is the best guide I've seen so far, I wish I had this one the moment I wanted to start messing around with my phone because I spent more than 48 hours total reading and reading and getting more confused each time.
So go ahead and do it.
And thank you to the OP for putting this up.

And the last one, probably silly question, what CM9 rom is this? Will i have GB or ICS? And if thats GB where can i find safe ICS rom?
Before Galaxy Note, I used to rock HTC Wildfire and didn't wanted to mess around with custom roms because it was just low-end device. Third-party launchers did the job for me when it comes to customization.
When I bought Galaxy Note, I was looking forward to flashing Cyanogenmod or maybe something different (I like Paranoid Android rom and the hybrid mode). I was very disappointed to see that there is a brick bug.
Even though I'm a IT engineer and I have been using computers since Commodore 64, I don't have experience in flashing custom roms so this post is very useful if it's the best way to do it.
Do I have to flash different stock GB before rooting, because I have XXLA6 kernel (baseband: xxla4) and I believe that this version is not directly rootable? Correct me if i'm wrong?
What is the best way to return from custom rom (ie. CM9) to stock GB?
In fact, I've been reading for a good amount of time today but there is just too much information, so sorry for the noobish questions.
I installed rom before 2 days and had similar doubts.
Just want to share what problem I faced :
The mobile should be in ON state when rooting CF I was doing it in OFF download mode

CyanogenMod 9 is based on ICS, CM7 is based on Gingerbread. There wasn't a CM8 because Google never released the source code for Honeycomb.
And what you need is a safe kernel, because the kernel is what sends a erase command to a chip inside the phone and that's when you brick it (I think). That happens when you do a factory reset.
Now, what I always do when I want to change ROMS is to use AbbysNote 4.2 as a safe GB kernel so I can then flash the ROM/Kernel of my choice.
You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424&highlight=abyssnote
So let's say you want to go from CM9 to LiquidSmooth (or pretty much any other), which is the one I use now:
You go to CWM recovery, from there you flash AbyssNote.
Once the flashing is completed, you DO NOT exit CWM, instead you go to "Advanced" and then "Reboot to Recovery" so the phone will restart but it will go directly to CWM again, but now with AbyssNote installed.
AbyssNote has a TOUCH based recovery, so it is easier to use. Don't use the physical power and volume buttons to navigate.
From there you can safely do a factory reset, format cache, format Dalvik, flash a new ROM and Kernel.
AbyssNote will then disappear because it will be overwritten by the new Kernel of your choice. So every time I want to change to a new ROM, I repeat the steps above I haven't had any problems whatsoever.
I hope I'm right with my technicalities, but the procedures the OP and I describe are safe to try as long you follow the exact instructions, so before you try anything, read and re-read and you will be just fine.

Thanks for this great guide! I haven't gotten my Note yet as I just ordered it yesterday but I have been lurking around the forums already and trying to understand how flashing roms and kernels works around here. Like someone already said before some of the guides / threads are 'a little' confusing for newcomers. I was really confused with the brick bug that people were writing about. This thread clarified things a lot for me and I believe it will help many more Note-newbies!
So, new Note community member reporting to duty here! :highfive: It's gonna be pretty neat upgrade considering from what phone I come from. Well, the Huawei at least was great step stone to android world gotta admit. I just got somewhat bored with the not so great custom scene.

One more question for you. Does flashing abyss kernel bring yellow triangle and raise binary counter? I've heard on one of Zedomax's channels on youtube that he recommends flashing this kernel whenever you need to move from one ROM to another.
Cheers mate!

Dont worry about AbyssNote, is safe in both respects. That's the one I always use to do anything that is flashing related.
If, for some reason, you start seeing that dreaded triangle at boot, you can use TriangleAway from Chainfire on Google Play.

Thanks bro, I appreciate the effort to answer these noobish questions.
I will stay on CM9 (and CM10 when it comes) as long as is stable to use it as a daily driver. I don't like the TW interface and I don't need all that S-Pen stuff and pressure sensitivity. Apps from the Play Store are enough for me (Papyrus for example) so there's no need to stay on stock rom.

I have the brickbug firmware also. So am I correct in assuming that if I follow these directions and flash a different GB rom that I will be okay?
Will flashing this India GB rom change my kernel to a more stable one?
And if I flash this India GB rom will it be able to update to ICS through Kies or OTA?
I'm not new to flashing as I used to rom my EVO a lot... I just haven't done it in about a year and this brickbug mess has me standoff-ish.

If you are on GB already, you just have to root the ROM and flash CWM because the brick bug is present only on ICS kernels. 99% sure.
There are some GB Stock ROMs that you cannot root directly, so it depends.
OTA updates from Samsung to ICS I'm not sure, you should ask someone else. When I got my Note it already had ICS, so I never did an OTA update. I don't use Kies at all.
I was very weary at first too, but with the instructions above you will be fine.

I've followed the guide from OP and now I'm rockin' CM9! No problems at all.
My content on the internal memory was intact (apps data, games data, etc), it's all there and I've flashed Indian ROM and then CM9. Have I made a mistake or what?
Hello TPT community,
I Just got this tablet mainly because of the included digitizer and was wondering if anyone could give me a guideline on how to speed things up for this tablet. The tablet came with honeycomb 3.1 included and I am finding it pretty sluggish and unresponsive in general tasks. I went into settings to do a software update but it seems there is no 4.0 update available. There doesn't seem to be a toggle for pen only input in the settings either. Is the normal process for flashing a new Rom to root, then install CWM, and flash Roms?
I'm kind of a n00b here, but that is the right process in general.
For you, there should be a 4.0 update, but you might have to try a few times. After you are running ICS (4.0) you can root and load Koshu's JB rom.
Aren't there problems with rooting ICS?

Lets see if we can figure out why it won't update. In settings -> about tablet, what is listed for model number, android version, and kernel version?
Edit:
Found this - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPa...ystem-updates-OTAs-not-installing/ta-p/713571

Is this a wifi only tablet or a 3g tablet? What region is it?
I attached the info in a picture. I dont know how to find out what region or wifi/3g it is though. I don't have a sim to test it. I got it from here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7473177&CatId=6845
It is wifi only, also found this interesting thread - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/thinkpad-1839-update/td-p/975085
Apparently the Tiger Direct refurb is a custom SKU and is SUPPOSEDLY not upgradeable... tho I would think there are ways around that. At least now I know what we are working with here.

So any ideas on how to update to ICS? The ROM in android development section says it requires me to have ICS first.
Unfortunately no... sorry. I'm still a n00b with android devices. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge will chime in now that we know what we are dealing with.
You can root your tablet and go straight to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. It's fast and cool! The only little bug is with wifi!

The wifi bug actually isn't that big, just set wifi to always on like suggested. As far as the tampered drivers error, you will probably have to : a) search for a way to install unsigned drivers on win8
or b) use a winxp/win7 pc.
Be careful tho... flashing after having stock ICS is needed for a reason.

I was worried you were gonna try to just jump straight to JB.
Hey there,
well one way is to try flashing the upgrade directly but like da_reeseboy already mentioned, there is a high possibility that it will fail. Only other way would be to flash the bootloader directly (that most likely the part, that keeps the JB kernel from booting on non ICS kernels) but there is a high bricking chance and eventually the firmware for some of the hardware needs to be updated, too, to work properly.
It looks like there's hope - this guy has the same weird software version as you - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37487649&postcount=6. He used the directions in that thread to upgrade to ICS.

Just trying to think outside the box (noob style), what if he:
1. Installed CWM
2. Restored a clean 0075 nandroid from someone here on xda
3. Restored stock recovery
4. Checked for OTA to ICS
In my mind the software version is what is holding him back from updates, so I'm thinking that restoring an 0075 nandroid will put him in a position to get the update correctly... but I am still new to this so I could be WAY off.

Who NEeds Help To get to KitKat?
If you are already Rooted..... Go here to Civ.'s thread and you can flash his rom and get the Kernel while you are there.
All of the instructions are in the threads. They are as close to perfect as we can get.
**as of 6/18/2014 after flashing I would keep checking back until you see that the issues are all resolved and pay attention tothe threads and read, read read, read them and make a back up before you do anything....
Good Luck With Kit Kat!!!
If you are not currently rooted, please send me a note or make a post and we can figure out where you are and what you can do to get rooted.
Please Make Sure that you know what your firmware is BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING LISTED BELOW!! basically, you need to know what you are doing before you start.
We have KitKat OTA out there so if you use any of the Jelly Bean Stuff you can BRICK your device.. Take HEED!!!!
First and foremost I take No responsibility for anything that happens to your Tablet, Phone. Rooting will invalidate you warranty, so do so at your own Risk. If you make a brick, paper weight or anything else out of your phone, Tablet, Phablet, I take NO responsibility.
I take NO credit for anything that has been developed, I am simply putting things in one place for all of us to find easier.

If you are new here, This is a nice Glossary of Terms put up by droidstyle and created by Jawman27 , Big thanks to them for setting this up...
Most everything I have found is pretty east to do for even the most novice of users. There are a few things that will cause anxiety, but what I have found it that most of the dev's are really good at listing instructions on how to use the magic they have so freely given. Read, Read and Read again till you understand the instructions...!
If you don't understand ask questions in the OP's thread and I am sure that the dev or others in the thread will give you sound advice and clear up any misconceptions. If you ask your questions here I will do my best to answer, but you are always going to find the most relevant information in the Thread of the OP. This is a Thread for you to see what is available out in the world...
With that being said I am setting up this thread here in this forum because there are slim pickins around here and we have a ton of stuff available to use that most are not aware of in the Galaxy Note 8 world. Some of what I have found that works here on the Note 8 (5110) I found in Other forums for other devices. Lot's of things are Compatible, some are not. Remember to choose wisely if you did not see it here in this thread and you don't know if it works.
I can only speak to the GT-N5110 because I own this device. Once others with Other Devices post with success stories then I can say that this will work with them.
If you found something that works that didn't come from the Galaxy Note 8 Forum, Post it and give a little instruction on what you have done that might differ from the OP from which it came. If it does come from this neck of the woods then post it with a link to the op and I will incorporate it in the the OP if it makes since.
Please don't rewrite the instructions here, If you are not the developer then let them speak for themselves. Post a link to the OP
Everything I post here in the OP I have tried and have succeeded in doing... Please if you succeed then post we want to here about success and if you have a failure so we can look at what happened and make sure that I/we all understand what is going on...
And we're off! ( Please note that these lists are never complete. this is a work in progress, so if you find something add it so we all can benefit from it. )
ROOT
How to Root your new device.
This is what I used initially...
I used Chainfire's thread located here in the Galaxy Note 8 Original Android Development Section. Chainfire is the Man, many props for all of his hard work. Buy his apps if you use them and like them... I did!
We also have mskip Galaxy Note 8 Toolbox. I use this applicaiton. I paid for the premium version because it is a way to give back to these guys for their hard work. If you use it and love it pay for it... (I did.)
Take a look, read the OP, re-read the OP and when you get back let us know how you did, what you did when you did it...
**New Update 8/6 Here is a New Root Process for the GT-N5120. This was put together by Slipurson. Check out his post. This was done with a Windows 8.1 PC with out running in compatibility mode, so keep that in mind if you are using a different version. This will be for GT-N5120 the LTE version only. Big thanks to Slipurson for your work on this!
Follow Directions carefully and you will come out with a rooted device!
UNROOT
I found out a few things about the process when you UNroot. I just had to unroot my Note 8 and put it back to bone stock...
Now If you have to do this, I would suggest going to SuperSU > Settings > Uninstall for UNRoot. If you do not do this and use Odin to flash back to a completely stock Rom. you might get your self into a bootloop... Not a tasty cereal, just a frustrating issue that will cause some slight irritation...
If you find yourself in a boot loop after doing what I just suggested not to do then You will want to flash Chainfire's CF AutoRoot. If you have any questions, please hit me up first before you make a brick!
Here is the only method that I have found so far. Big thanks to janjannsen99 for getting this together. THis will take you back to the original version 4.1.2. As soon as we get the next release 4.2.2 I will post a link to it.
** Note** If you need help above and beyond what is in janjannsen99 thread, post it up and I will see what we can accomplish...
Recoveries I back up after I back up and then I back up twice! (credit 2 Sublime)
Look in the Original Android Development you have a few to choose from.
Some like TWRP some like CWM. It is wise to have access to both, some roms or other flashables may be dependent on which recovery that you use. So remember to read the OP and the thread of what you are about to flash and see if there is a mention about it. If no mention then I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just as a rule of thumb make sure you have a nandroid back up before you flash anything...
1. here is a link for TWRP. Thank you to emwno for his work on bringing this together. Please read the OP in his thread... I use this and have had no issues...

This is a great solid stock ROM. I have found it to be very stable and it has taken well to the MODs that I have used on it. I have been follow beans on my other devices and I trust and can depend on the quality of his work. Now go grab it and read the OP so you know what you are getting...
2. JellyBeans Stock 4.1.2 ROM Here EMF1. I have not used this ROM, but if your into 4.1.2 then I would suggest giving this one a try...
CM 10.2 JB 4.3
I was able to get this installed on the GT-N5110 Using the TWRP recovery and with my 64gb card with exFat.
**Sorry about any confusion... You can try and use the CWM recovery, however if it does not work flash TWRP and try it. Have a copy of each Recovery (CWM and TWRP) on your internal storage just in case you have to flash your way out of there.
**Note, cm10.2 works good, however it is still a little buggy... so not suggested as a DD. Yet, Stay Tuned! The ROm recognized my 64gb exFat card, however it was acting wonkey with some apps so Be Advised! Just use your 32gb Fat32 sdcard and you will be jammin...
Goo.im just dropped a new version of Gapps for JB 4.3 You will need this for the CM 10.2 ROMS!!!!
1. CM 10.2 Jelly Bean 4.3... BIG Thanks to sbrissen for getting this up for us over here in Note 8 Land. This is a build for GT-N5110. Remember if you want to use any other of the apps mods or tweaks with it, Go to the OP for the MOD or thingy and make sure that it is compatible with JB 4.3
Kernels
I am on Stock for now. I am running JB 4.2.2 and I have not heard of any other than stock that do support exFat. (microSD 64gb native formatting)
MODS Don't Forget to Back Up
1. xposed framework This works well for this ROM.
** Go to the Downloads section from within the Xposed app and look through them for the Mods that are designed for TouchWiz Roms...
example, you open up app settings go to gmail, set the dpi to 160 & screen (dp): 1000x1600
I did this for System settings as well and they look nice. Play around with it and we can build on it...
** Note I have attached a disabler for the Xposed framework in case you get into a boot loop or something else that is awful... Just flash via Recovery and you should be well again...
1a. Within the xposed frame work, you can go to the download section. Look for XBlast tools and or Wanam Xposed mods. These will give you all of the freedom to tweak the UI with out having to flash any mods. I have this running on several devices and they are excellent.
2. Audio Mods
Go here for Viper Audio. this is sweet and it really pumps up the sound on your device... Read the instructions carefully and you will be fine... I installed the "XHiFi version v2.1.0.2:" version.. This is your processor option ("CortexA9/15 with NEON") when installing, I am not saying that my option is optimal, but it works well for me. Let me know if you give it a shot... update 8/4... I just added FX version as well. The 2 together are very nice... I highly suggest this if you like your music..
3.Floating Windows Note 8 Mode Switcher I love this little app. It is great, it give you Floating windows & a easy way to switch between tablet mode and phablet mode. It works very well and is super easy to install and get going. I highly recommend this application. jump on over and read the OP and get the floating multiwindows going!
--addons for this I highly recommend
3a. Multi-Window Manager so you can add all of the application you want to multi-window. If you like the application buy the Pro version. I did and I love it...
You also going to want to get a different launcher, look around the Play store and find one that you like. Most have a free version to try before you buy. I personally use Nova Pro... Go check it out, It is really smooth with the higher dpi setting you get from the Note 8 Mode switcher
We've Got PIE!!!
4. LMT Launcher (PIE Controls) Thanks to noname81 for developing this awesome app for us to use. I have successfully installed v 1.9.1.2. Just grab the apk, install and you're off! no rebooting just install and PIE, PIE, PIE!!!!
You get PIE controls, ISAS & Gesture controls.. Very Nice... Read the OP all of the info for the goodness you want with a Stock ROM...
Apps or APKS
1. Link to the Google Edition 4.3 Camera This works I have it installed. and it is pretty sweet. (even on a 5mp Camera)
2. If you need a 3-way reboot menu, there is an excellent app here for that... [Holo Reboot]
3. AirDroid find it on Google Play: Here is a cool little app that let you connect to your PC wireless. You can do all kinds of stuff with this app, transfer files, rip apk's from your device, screen shots, activate camera remotely, explore it and let me know your findings. There is a paid subscription or free version.
Must Have Apps for a Rooted Device... As Always, if you like the app, buy the Pro version and show support to the dev!
0. SuperSU https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en, Buy the Pro version...
1. Busy Box https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
2. Titanium Backup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en
The Next 2 apps I find are essential if you like to have frequent back ups but don't like to boot into recovery often. Check them out!
3. Online Nandroid Back up https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en
4. Nandroid Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.bkrestore&hl=en

I installed 4.2.2 (N5120XXCMG7) with the help of Mobile Odin,
But if you are on 4.1.2 and no Root this is how you get 4.2.2 and Root in just 34 easy steps
This will be for GT-N5120 the LTE version only.
READ THE WHOLE THING ONCE BEFORE YOU START!
Also thanks to Chainfire, Sammobile and Clockworkmod
All this was done with Windows 8.1, no compatibility-mode for Odin or anything like that
If you are already on a rooted 4.1.2, you could start at step 14. (or step 22 if you dont need to do a nand-backup)
00. Firstly download the firmware from Sammobile, this takes some time if you do not have an hotfileaccount so do this first
01. Download Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root-konalte-konaltexx-gtn5120.zip with included Odin (Here)
02. Download Clockworkmod's CWM Recovery (here) This will be used to make a backup of your Note 8.0
03. Download Odin 3.07 (from here)
04. Install Samsungs USB-drivers (found here)
05. Unpack the CF-Auto-Root-konalte-konaltexx-gtn5120.zip-file somewhere on your computer, so that you can find the files easily.
06. Turn off your Note 8 and start it with holding volume down and power to get to download mode.
07. Press Volume Up to get start download mode, and connect the USB-Cable to your computer, let the drivers install
08. Start Odin 1.85 from the folder where you extraced the CF-Auto-Root-konalte-konaltexx-gtn5120.zip.
09. When the Square at ID:COM say something like 0:[COM7] on a yellow background and Messagebox says ADDED!! you are good to go.
10. Click on the PDA button and browse for the file 5. CF-Auto-Root-konalte-konaltexx-gtn5120.tar.md5 (.md5 might not be visible to you)
11. Now click Start and wait for Odin to flash rooted kernel and reboot your device.
12. You now have a rooted 4.1.2-device
13. Close Odin on your computer
14. Shut down and start the Note in Download mode again (volume down and power, then volume up)
15. Unpack Odin3.07.zip to some good place on your computer
16. Start Odin 3.07 and connect your Note to the computer
17. Click the PDA button and choose the RecoveryCWM6.03.2-GT-N5120.tar-file you downloaded earlier.
18. Click Start and wait for Odin to flash recovery, then reboot your Note 8.0
19. Shut down and unplug the Note.
20. Start the Note into recoverymode by holding Volume Up and then pressing power until it boots,
21. Once in recovery, choose backup and restore and then backup to external SD-Card (if possible, else backup to internal)
22. When backup is done (might take some time), reboot the Note, go to playstore and buy Odin (there is a free version here on XDA)
23. Plug in the Note to the computer and unpack and copy the 4.2.2 firmware to SD-Card.
24. Optionally you could here install Titanium Backup or Helium to backup your apps and games since i suggest you wipe your data later. If you dont have any progress you want to save then you could skip this step.
25. Start Mobile Odin, accept root-permission and let it download the flashkernel.
26. When Mobile Odin is done downloading, select Open file..
27. Select external, browse to and select the 4.2.2 frimware (N5120XXCMG7)
28. I suggest that, if you do not live in the UK, touch the Modem-selection in Mobile Odin and choose Clear to not flash the new modem (for me LTE didnt work when i flashed the new modem)
29. Make sure Enable Everroot, Inject SuperUser and Inject Mobile odin are selected.
30. I suggest you also check Wipe Data/Cache and Wipe Dalvik also (this deletes all your data on the device)
31. Touch Flash and to make sure the downloaded file is correct, let it do the MD5-check
32. Let Mobile Odin work (will reboot twice) and you should soon be booted and get to do the setup of your new and improved Note 8.0 with 4.2.2 in all its Samsungy Glory
33. If you do not like the bloatware from samsung, just install Titanium Backup and Freeze any unwanted applications.
The backup we did earlier with CWM Recovery, needs a Working CWM for 4.2.2 incase you want to revert back to 4.1.2. I am not sure if the CWM-Recovery we downloaded earlier works with 4.2.2 as i havnt tested (i havnt done any backup even tho i tell everyone to do so).
Great idea and it will be very useful to me as I just got a new Note 8. Thanks very much.

I also just got my note 8, tried to do the framaroot root but it failed. I also noticed this morning that when I checked for an ota update the server wouldn't connect. Looks like the LTE version is getting 4.2.2 today. I want 4.2.2 an will wait for official. Then I am rooting an will post how etc here.
Oh will post if I update to 4.2.2 also.
I have mobile odin I bought with the 25 samsung gave, I will mess around with it once I get root (don't have pc) and see how it works for the note 8.0.
I use cromi on a transformer pad an would love to see it here. Can't wait to see what custom roms an mods/tweaks come out for the awesome tablet.

I have a samsung galaxy trend s7392. Since it lags when playing high end games or using heavy apps, I'd like to overclock it. I have already rooted it. It has JB 4.1.2 as stock firmware with samsung touchwiz 4.0. Since it's not a popular model, the developers might not have developed anything yet for it. But since this phone's look, feel, features and stock firmware are a lot similar to more popular models like grand quattro i8552, i9082, etc some of you could know what roms and kernels would work good with it. Please help. I've googled my hands off. Thank you so much.

You might have better luck by going into the i8552 forum and ask a developer there if he knows if it is compatible. They would know the best.

Hi, I also own a Galaxy Trend S7392 and looking for a custom rom. But I couldn't find one. To start developing a new rom, I tried building from AOSP sources. The build was successful, but while flashing it on phone, ODIN reports FAIL as soon as it starts writing system.img. I am unable to figure that out why is it so.
I am looking for some concrete steps so as to compile a ROM for our phone and flash it from AOSP sources specifically. If you have any idea about that, please help.

After successfully building a rom you need to flash the rom from inside of recovery. I'm not sure of the specifics of your rom for flashing. You will need to go to your rom thread for that and read the guids on how to flash it correctly. You will also need a gapps package. goo.im has this. If you built for 4.3 aosp they have the gapps there. If you built for 4.4 you can try these gapps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

Thanks for the reply atrus5.
My phone is currently using STOCK ROM for my Galaxy Trend. There is no thread dedicated for Galaxy Trend Duos S7392 so there is a little information available at the moment.
I am stuck on flashing the AOSP generated system.img to my phone. GAPPS will come a lot later .

OK, but I don't know how to generate the whole ZIP. Moreover,
ODIN requires .tar.md5 package to flash it. This is what I did :
1. Extract STOCK tar.md5 package
2. Replaced system.img with the one I compiled.
3. Repacked tar.md5 package.
4. Used ODIN to flash the tar.md5 package.
5. ODIN reported failed as soon as it started flashing system.img
Further help will be highly appreciated.

You will need to flash the rom from recovery.
First you will need to be rooted. If you don't have that you can find it here at this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494471
You will need to have a cwm recovery. Here is the link to that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552935
Inside of cwm recovery you will need to factory reset/erase data, erase cache and dalvik.
Then flash the rom and gapps packages.
i don't know if your device is locked or not since I do not own this device. This is the best that I could find. I don't know if it works. This advice is for the i8552. Your best bet is to look through these threads to find what you are looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-quattro

1) The phone is rooted. NO issues with that.
2) CWM recovery is not available for my phone. I tried the CWM recovery builder to build image, but the build failed. I tried to build the same manually, but on flashing, I get E:Failed to Verify Signature.

you can remove those bloatwares by just rooting and using root app delete to locate and delete. it will not only free rom but will also make your phone faster since the bloatwares that used to run in the background consuming cpu, battery and ram will have been removed.
Samsung galaxy trend s7392 folks use kingoapp from kingoapp.com to root your phone. it will surely root it. I've upgraded to galaxy i8552 quattro and the two phones are just a copycat of each other. so there are chances a custom rom intended for quattro(more popular of the two) could work on trend.

It's already rooted bro. I have done it on the very first day I bought the device. Still, not all bloatware can be removed by just rooting. So, I think there is a need of optimised ROM like CyanogenMod or any other.

Hey first of all, after rooting you will gain super user access and ofcourse after that you will be able to remove any system app(bloatware).
pls help i also have the same device
I have gt7392 pls help me to put any custom rom available if u get any solution pls share with me.
Thanks in advance
I am also an unhappy user of s7392. It is indeed a laggy phone and to be honest, root (vroot)+ removing any unused application, including play store, hangout and google+ didn't help it too much. Phone is still hanging, lagging and sometimes not showing who is calling or, worst, not ringing at all.
An optimised ROM it will be really grate.
