Hello all. I have a T-Mobile MyTouch3G running the latest Cyanogen Mod 4.2.12.2 and I'm running into some issues with alittle lag. Every time I'm running an app for awhile the press the home button I keep getting "home activity force close errors". Or when i go back to the home screen it almost seems like it has to boot back up and load every shortcut back to my screen. Also once I wake the phone up from sleep "like say when i receive a text and i go to read it" its very laggy and takes about 20 seconds for it to start running smooth again.
I rarely have many apps running usually just power manager, gmail, and messaging. I have 210 MB of space available in my internal memory.
I've tried factory reset. Different versions of cyanogen but all to no avail.
I love this phone, by far one of the best phones I've ever owned. So if anybody has any idears that'd be great!
I think I would have taken a full wipe.
boot into recovery, and full wipe the flash CyanogenMod ROM again.
Try going to ur app drawer and click spare parts. Go all the way to the bottom and check the "put home in memory" -something like that-. I had a similar problem and that helped me with 4.2.11.1
Hi,
I had this problem on my Vodafone UK Magic with 4.2.12.2 and it seems that UNchecking "keep home in memory" helps (source attached link)
"In the several threads above, solutions/fixes include disabling 'keep home
in memory', enabling compcache, and/or enabling swap. "
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmo...Priority Version Owner Summary Stars Modified
Even though I'm saying the exact opposite of the poster before me, I hope this helps.
DT
All options will work for you. But if you join them all its even better. Locks home in memory with spare parts and enable compcashe. You might also run fix_permissions. In your terminal type in:
su
fix_permissions
Enjoy
Problem Fixed!
thanks for all the input. I should have got on here along time ago instead of trying to fiddle with it myself. Two thumbs up xda community!
First let me say this is the first issue I've had to date with my HD2. As a die hard win mobile advocate, I love it and it has exceeded expectations at every turn. Today however, I seem to have a problem with HTC Sense. it will not Launch correctly. it hangs on the Launching Sense splash. the Home button is not working. the Start button (hard and soft) is working , but the display freezes anytime i do anything. for instance, i can press the Task Manager shortcut i put on my start menu, and lauch the task manager, but if i minimixe with the X, the x just disappears and the header changes from task manager to start, but the screen is left displaying the the task manager and nonworking buttons (more like a screenshot)
I'm considering restetting to factory, but thought i'd see if there was a way to reinstall sense first (if anyone might agree, thats worth trying first)
Can I reinstall HTC Sense? (without it working properly now)
Is this worth a try?
many thanks, love the forum

have you installed anything recently? if that is the case, try uninstalling that, soft reset and then see if sense leaunches properly. As for reinstalling sense, theres a cab floating around, but its huge...dont know if it will work for you or not as ive never tried it myself
heres the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/401944993/bigboss_Manila_2.5_2016_full.cab.html
you need to install sdcerts first for the above cab to install. it can be found here

good luck!
WOW!!!
MINE DID THE VERY EXACT SAME THING Monday night. I think it was something to do with a game that I must have installed from marketplace a few minutes before it happened. One of the free XIM games i think, or maybe the bartender recipes free app. I uninstalled almost everything and soft reseted about 10 times, nothing. Sense will work for about 30-60 seconds after a reset but then all of a sudden stops working. Leaving that last screen that was open displaying with no responses to anything other then start and end keys. WTF happened??
after a reboot, quickly go and disable the sense from home setting from the setting tab before it locks up. I did that and it is working fine with Windows default or even SPB Mobile shell. Sense is fried though.
Nate
any other ideas peeps?

Follow up, I think it may have been an error with Twitter or HTC PEEP. I was looking around for the Peep app to see if it would run outside of sense and saw the HTC folder in the Windows (windows\htc\twitter\files) folder and found an executable Twitter app.exe. I launched it and it asked if I wanted to log out of twitter, i said yes and then later I turned on Sense and it has worked ever since.
Related??? Dont know.
but I am up and running again. I will report back if it happens again.
ok, everything is still running fine. What I did after the Sense crash.
installed SPB Mobile shell 3.5.5
tried sense a couple more times, failed each time.
Looked for and found Twitter app.exe, launched and logged out of twitter.
tried sense again, worked.
logged back into twitter
Unisntalled SPB mobile shell
No problems to note. Everythign is working as it should.
Running the latest Stock Tmobile rom as well.
seems like this thread has not had any activity lately, does that mean that the OP is not having issues now???
most probably it's not a matter of twitter app. i've never used it, was not logged in and sense still did break down, hangs while "Launching HTC Sense...". got energy ROM, happened for the second time, dunno why am tired of restoring to manufacturer defaults and wiping my device twice a year
I've actually noticed this a coupla days ago, and thought I'd look it up on the forums to see what else is new... but theres no thread so far about this. (correct me if im wrong)
(and please feel free to skip down to the ****starred paragraph)
I'm using the HTC Hero (unbranded) with the official OTA 2.1 android (unrooted, yes I know... UN-rooted)
About a week ago I had a massively slow and buggy phone. I hardly had that many apps installed, because it was so slow I was forced to download task manager to free up memory (didn't work). I got really worried after because opening ANY app like my emails would cause HTC Sense to close in the backround - and I'd have to wait about 15 seconds for it to launch again.
I just figured it was the official android 2.1 + Sense that started to bog down after time, and considered going back to the custom roms. Before I did, I remembered the number one trick in the "help manual", switch off, wait and switch back on. What do you know....it's much faster and no more lag, bugs or memory shortage! What a shame.
Now I've only just switched it off and on again, and throughout the whole time I've not updated my phone or accepted any OTA downloads or anything really... so I can only guess it's happened in the backround without consulting me.
My sister also has the same Hero 2.1 (Orange-branded) which still has the "old" Android Market.
I hate having to give my life story, and as gruelling it is for you to read, I thought I'd set out all the information just incase anyone picks up on something.
********(Now what you've been waiting for...) I've now noticed that I've got a new Android Market. Its largely the same appearance (white and green) with similar layout for the home page. The difference is the appearance of the indivual apps. The top bar will have "About" and "Comments" tabs, instead of having 3 short comments under the apps description on the same front page of the app.
I really would love to take a snapshot of the screen - but my phone is unrooted and personally never-needed/couldnt-work-out-how to root!
Now for the second, and best part. Normally, Android would notify you when there are updates for your apps, and it takes you to the "Downloads" page. This is still the same! But usually you'd have to go into each app, and press update individually. Now at the bottom of the "Downloads" page there is an "Update All" page - which does exactly what it says - update all in just one click.
If you consider the two small changes, its pretty insignificant - and I do apologise for wasting a bit of your time! But I thought I'd start a post about it incase anyone else finds anything new about the market, or if it is available on custom roms or well... anything!
Yes indeed, there is a new market for 2. 1. To bring some things into line with what 2. 2 can do. The apk is available from Modaco I think if anyone else is looking for it
EDIT..... http://android.modaco.com/content/software/319798/updated-2-2-style-market-for-android-2-1/
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I managed to somehow remove the bold hour from my clock. I was messing around with the clock app for other reasons and now it is not bold. I am not exactly sure what did it, so I am just documenting my processes in hopes that maybe we can figure it out. (I'm not complaining that my clock isn't bold anymore...but it would be nice to know why)
I am unlocked and rooted with Clockwork Mod Recovery, but otherwise completely stock.
I set up a 2nd user on my tablet almost immediately after installing 4.2. I noticed after using it for awhile I would get "unfortunately clock has stopped" force close errors semi-frequently regardless of what app I was using or what I was doing.
In trying to troubleshoot that, I cleared data on the clock app on my user. This did not solve the force close issues, so I used root explorer to delete the alarms.db file in the data for the app manually (I believe located at /data/data/com.android.google.deskclock/databases/alarms.db). That file is automatically regenerated when opening the clock app, so I opened it and allowed it to regenerate.
This also did not solve the force close issue, so I also cleared data on the clock app for the 2nd user on the tablet. This seemed to resolve the force close issue and all was well with the world......
Until later that evening when I went to grab my tablet and unlocked it and noticed that the hour was no longer bold. I haven't had a chance yet to experiment with trying to get it back to bold or further testing to figure out what happened.
Any thoughts?
TL;DR I made my clock not bold accidentally and am trying to figure out how/why it happened
Possibly unrelated but...
On my VZW Galaxy Nexus I installed MMuzzy's Jelly Bean - 4.2 AOSP rom (clean wipe) and noticed that the clock wasn't bold by default. I know its a custom rom so there are a lot of possible explanations for that, but he claims it is AOSP and he doesn't make customizations like that so I'm not sure why it would be this way.
I noticed that the clock lockscreen widget on the phone is still bold, so I could add that, and delete the stock one that is there and go to bold on the phone. I am at work at the moment and don't have my Nexus 7 with me, so I can't test to see if the same is true for it at the moment, but it seems like a possibility.
AOSP ROMs are not affected. Analysis here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34561693&postcount=35
It's here! Downloading it now and I'll flash it ASAP. Download link here, for those who want to give it a try:
http://developer.android.com/preview/download.html
I'm also gonna throw it out there: if you don't know how to flash this image you probably shouldn't. This is a developer preview and you are likely to run into far more problems than you would with the current official release.
I don't think it works with Nexus 9 LTE though
Edit: So you can flash the system, boot, cache and vendor img files using fastboot and get it working with just wifi. Just tried and successfully booted.

no, probably not. it'll be no different from trying to flash the normal nexus 9 image with the LTE model. that image probably won't come out until the final release - this is just a developer preview after all.
Flashed (did a dirty flash, without performing a factory reset), but back to 5.1.1 now. At least in my case I found it impossible to use as a daily driver.
Issues discovered:
1. Settings panel (in notifications) had an extra white pane underneath. Once swiped away / clicked, the settings panel was not available anymore when dragging down from the notification area.
2. Home button not working
3. Unlock screen missing, on wake up the desktop is displayed, however swiping occasionally produces an unlock effect.
4. Facebook app crashes when trying to open it.
5. Holding and swiping up on the home button did nothing (instead of opening Google Now)
Other discoveries:
1. The application drawer now scrolls vertically. It has a search bar and the last apps (or maybe most used?) at the top, separated by a horizontal line from the rest of the drawer. When scrolling, only the search bar remains pinned at the top.
2. Profile icons on the right side, (only) the first time the notification panel is pulled down.
3. The notification panel opens wherever you swipe your finger from the top (not centered anymore).
4. The volume pane now has a drop down button on the right that reveals the other volume channels.
Warning: for me flashing back (again dirty flash) to 5.1.1 leads to a boot loop, where it boots, optimizes the apps, then throws a short Google Play Services has stopped and then black screen and reboots. Then does it again.

I was not complaining (I take full responsibility for flashing a preview edition). I was just describing my experience.

So, to do this properly, do I have to unroot and go back to stock recovery? Or what's the best process when I'm unlocked, rooted, and with customer recovery already?

You don't have to unroot and go back to stock (as this is not an update). If you go into the bootloader (adb reboot bootloader) and flash all the img files in the factory image (fastboot flash * *.img, where * is bootloader, boot, system, cache etc.) it will give you stock Android M. I'm saying flash the img files, as for me the flash-all thing didn't work (it complained about the system partition, apparently a common issue).

Thanks! Can I skip the recovery.img and keep my custom recovery, or is that likely to cause problems?

I wouldn't. But you could experiment I guess (no guarantees though). Before you proceed make sure OEM unlocking is still on in Developer options, just in case.
Can someone who flashed it say some words about the the first impressions regarding performance ?
so after over an hour of trying to get it to work, i've finally got it to boot into the OS. i ended up having to force reboot it a bunch of times during the initial loading animation. interestingly, it showed a small warning for 5 seconds saying something like "your device has failed verification and may not work properly" with a red warning symbol on top, right after the bootloader splash screen.
before i force reset it (and reflashed the system image twice) it would get stuck at the loading screen for a very long time, much longer than what is normal for an initial boot on an encrypted device, and the top right corner of the tablet was getting very warm, meaning it was clearly working on something - maybe stuck in an infinite loop? anyway, installing my applications from a backup now and i'll get back about the performance and how it works.
something interesting i noticed right away is that when swiping down to show the notification shade, instead of always coming down right in the center it'll slide out from either the left, right or center of the status bar depending on where you swiped down. cool trick for making one-handed use easier i guess. i'll see if i can take a few screenshots once everything's set up.
oh, something else - there are a bunch of new neat animations everywhere. everything's a bit more fluid and there are some nice touches in a few places. not really something that can be explained without experiencing it though.
aside from the issues with booting up i haven't run into any other problems yet.
Flashed manually partition by partition, and erased user data before booting.
Absolutely no issues during flash and it booted on the first attempt.
It's currently restoring from my last Google backup, but so far a pretty easy experience (beyond flash-all being broken).
ooh there are a bunch of new battery optimization and battery usage tracking features, as well as a utility which tracks memory usage of various apps, and how often an app is running - and lets you choose whether to look at the past 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours and day.

I've noticed that the audio doesn't keep up with the keyboard if you type in any way reasonably quickly. Definitely seems slower to me so far compared with 5.1.1. I did a full clean wipe. I'm gonna do a restart once i install some stuff again and see if it clears it up. Noticed that the theme option under 'developer options' has an 'automatic' option, itd be pretty cool if it turned on at night for instance but its 10:24pm here in N.Ireland and it didnt go to dark mode when i chose automatic so who knows. Also see an option to enable/disable tap-to-wake, not something I want to disable but handy enough for those who do and maybe even potentially a small battery saving.
Jumpy audio through google play music, presumably related to the keyboard issue I was talking about. Still haven't restarted yet though.
EDIT: dark theme has enabled itself after i set the theme option to 'automatic', presumably because it's night time

Oddly, mine did go dark when I set the theme to automatic - I'm in England, so same time zone as you.
Can't say much else yet - still downloading my apps.
Quite a few force close pretty much immediately when I try to run them, but I'll let the restore take its course and reboot before making any firm judgements.
Given how generally poor my experience with my N9 has been to date, I'm prepared to put up with a few warts and teething issues.

I dont think its the fact that its dev preview that messed you up. By dirty flashing and then claiming it is not stable enough for a DD is stupid tho. If you want to truly experience it and not going around telling people you cant use it, then you should probably clean flash.
