[Help/Problem]WIUI 2.1.6 and app2sd - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using WajkIUI for quite a while but I am unable to 'fully' enable app2sd
I have a 1 GB ext3 partition on my sd card..after flashing the rom i flashed the darktremor's data2sd script and it worked then i installed a2sd GUI but the app shows the total size of ext3 partition is 193 MB only...
I get a lot of force close..even terminal emulator force closes..I thought it was a consequence of low internal memory...but after enabling a2sd the problem is not solved
Previously i had flashed full sbf and I downgraded..so are those force closes and app2sd problems related to this full sbf flashing??

I don't understand why this a2sd gui is needed. As I know you can install apps to sd in Wiui. Just open the app manager, pick an app and click on move to sd. After you can move to phone if you want. It works for me. (and worked on 2.1.6)

when i try to move apps to sd something like insufficient space warning appears..WIUI doesnot recognize the ext3 partition!

How to use sd card ext3 partition? please help, thx

Stupid noobie question I'm sure but I need some advice:
I'm running CM 5.0.5.3 on my N1 with AmonRa 1.7 recovery-cyan version and
App2SD. I partitioned my SD card with a 500mb ext2, then converted ext2 => ext3. All is good, but when I download apps everything is put into the main partition and I have nothing in the ext3 partition. Basically its wasted space of 500 mb right now.
How do I put apps, etc into the ext3 partition instead of the main partition? ADB push I would guess, as I can't copy/paste or move using Astro FM? If ADB push, what would be the command line instructions? Sorry, but don't know the programming language well enough to do it on my own.
you hv to enable App2SD in the Application section of the Setting menu to install apps in the SD ext partition... if you want to move ur apps, u'll hv to install CM 5.0.6 [has an option to move apps]... else, u hv to uninstall the apps and reinstall...

Craig,
App2SD is enabled and presently storing ALL apps to the main partition. I understand updating to 5.0.6 to get the added functionality also. If I uninstall an app, say Pandora, how would I reinstall it on the ext3 partition? By default, wouldn't it just reinstall on the main partition with App2SD?

I had the same problem and just went about getting my apps2sd working a different way. I have not been able to get of the built-in features (tethering, apps2sd) in cm to actually work so I use 3rd party solutions.
Its needs to be ext4 not ext3.
New Apps2SD method implemented mostly by Chris Soyars. Create an ext4 partition and enable it in settings->applications (wiki page coming soon)

5.0.6 is the first iteration of CM that I am able to use apps2sd natively without having to resort to the older method of achieving this.
I just wiped/flashed and for kicks, gave it another try. Finally

Move data to SD card in CM7

I had repartition my SD card for a while, and I never checked my 512M ext3 partiton since I rarely do anything with it. Recently I mounted it and check, nothing store in it, all app go to .android_secure in my Fat32 partition.
I'm using CM7, is there any extra step to get app install goes to ext3 partition, or I should delete the ext3 and resize fat32 partition ?
Edit: as I search around, CM7 using Froyo App2SD ? Maybe I should install Darktremor App2SD or not ? Is there any extra step to install it on Wildfire
You are right. Flash DTApps2SD.
when I install darktremor, will it move all app to ext3 or I have to do something with it ?
Thanks for your answer, maybe I'll install darktremor app2sd now
I installed DTApp2SD anh successfully moved dalvik-cache to ext partition, but .android_secure still there.
When I run a2sd reinstall, next time the phone will never load, stuck at HBOOT boot screen.

APPS2SD and LINK2SD question.

Hello again, I need clarification with this subject...
I had a difficult time in rooting my android, thinking I failed. so for many times I rooted, installed xrecovery, then most importantly apps2sd. but I don't think it works, then I found all about Links2sd. I installed it, and each time after installing I always select the "link2sd" option, and I check the include davlik cache, but my phone memory is continually decreasing... is this normal or not? could there be a conflict with apps2sd and link2sd since I don't know if I have deleted apps2sd. sorry I'm an android newbie. Thanks..
Well... if you had app2sd link2sd would monit about it and asked you to uninstall it first.
If you don't know if your phone is rooted, look through apps - if you have a superuser app - you're rooted
As for link2sd working or not: connect your phone to the computer and open minitool partition wizard home. It will see your ext2 partition along with free and occupied space. If there are any apps on ext2 partition of your SD card - apps are installing there and the slight decrease of space is due to the existing shortcut files. Because you have created ext2 partition, haven't you?...
I did what you said and yes I found files on the other partition I created. but problem is, some files still go to the phone memory, for example the game app "ninjump" has 15mb installed on the phone memory while on links2sd it shows that it is linked to the sd card.
also, I tried removing the memory card, and when I turned on my x8 the programs were missing, so I suppose links2sd is working.
only problem is now is that some chunks are still installed to the phone memory. is there a way of totally redirecting everything to the sd card?
link2sd: Leave data files in Internal Memory, and you can choose the apps to SD
app2sd: Copy all data from the application to the SD, It's all automatic

Ok, here's the deal - how many times did you install ninjump in the past? If more then once, and meanwhile you moved it to or from ext2 it might have (though the probability is very slight) that you have two apps - one in internal storage and one in ext2 storage.
So, navigate into ext2 partition (it's a folder in root directory - sdext or so) and look for this app. It might be hard, as names of linked apps are somewhat messed up, but there should be icons If there is no app on ext2, try switching it back to internal mode and then onto ext2 again - perhaps without linking dalvik cache.

APP2SD
I having problem with the app2sd too..i dunno whether it works...This is what i had done..I had busybox, superuser, and xrecovery installed and rooted. But when come to partitioning the sd card, i partitioned it into 3 parts : FAt, ext2 and ext3...after that i installed the update.zip and custom zip of app2sd...the phone starts not recognizing the sd partition...anyone can help here??
I use titanium backup to see app2sd works or not. if a2sd decrease, so it work.
if internal still decrease, I guess some file or even some app just can't work with app2sd.
one question too, how or can I move games data from fat sdcard to ext2 partition? like gameloft data. I need my fat space for other file

I tried navigating to the ext2 partition using minitool partition wizard, and I indeed saw files that I have installed there. so do you mean that apps2sd is better than links2sd? thanks..
Well... I'm not saying anything is better, though I used both solutions in three different ways.
For stock SE ROM link2sd is better, since you only need to partition SD card into primary fat32 and primary ext2 - nothing more. Then you install an app and all works fine.
With custom ROM you cannot use link2sd, since they all have app2sd hack preinstalled (well, you can always modify files, but what for?). Problem occurs when you have this hack AND ext2 partition. The hack then moves automatically all your apps to ext2 memory along with dalvik cache if you install them in internal storage. If you install in external storage, the app goes to fat32 secure folder and dalvik cache remains in ext2. If you don't have any ext on custom ROM, dalvik cache is always in internal storage, while you can move any non-system app onto fat32 sd card.
The ext2 solution in custom ROMs may seem convinient, but for me it was not. When you use apps like phone locator, they should always dwell in internal memory, since SD card can be easily taken out, while deleting such an app from a remotely locked down phone would require flashing, otherwise the device is useless for the thief
Well actually both app2sd and link2sd are typically similliar. I've tried app2sd before and it still leave some files in internal memory. So will link2sd. But link2sd is much more easier to use because once your phone is rooted you just need to install it on your phone without going through the adb shell thing. Easy for newbie for sure. But you just have to manually link new installed applications and games. That's what differ link2sd with app2sd. Now I'm using link2sd. If you want to make sure, why don't you try those froyo phone. Try to use the app2sd stuff on those phone. They still install some applications on their internal as well although they have built in app2sd.

Low internal storage !!!

hi guys ,
i have a 16 gb sandisk class 4 sdhc card and currently i am using rom HYPERDROID GBX V12 by pongster .
before installing the rom through clockwork mod recovery , i partitioned the sd card with 1024 size and 0 swap size.
but my internal storage is only showing 257 Mb
and after installing a few apps, my internal storage has become low ,
is there any way to virtually increase the internal storage by utilising the SD card storage???
can this be done without formatting the phone or the ROM ,ie.,without losing data ??
HELP APPRECIATED.
THANK YOU.
Try rebooting and seeing if that helps if using an a2sd based rom

no it did not work that way...
You could partition your sd card, adding an ext2,3 or 4 partition and install DarkTremor's A2SD script. Then your apps will be installed into your ext partition on your card instead of in your phone's memory. And using the A2SD GUI app from the Android market, you can put your dalvik-cache to the partition, and do some other cool stuff. If you cant find DT's A2SD script by searching for it, I can attach the working version that I have to this post when I get home.
Edit: Attached a good working version. Flash it via CWM, after you allocate an ext4 partition (1 gb is a good size) on your sd card.

1. In CWM Recovery, under 'Advanced', theres an option to partition your sd card.
2. By partitioning your card, you are allocating an amount of space to be used as an ext2/3/4 partition. Doesn't really matter which you use, but ext4 is said to give the best performance. I'm pretty sure CWM creates an ext4.
3.By moving all your installed apps to the sd partition, you are freeing up internal storage in your phone. I have hundreds of apps installed, my phone has 650mb internal storage available, runs smooth as butter, and I still have half of my 1gb partition free.
Thanks i did the partition and installed an app called " modinstall" by mskip and now all my apps by default install in sd card
But why is my internall storage only 270 mb by default without any apps in it??

Do you have a EU HD2, or a TMOUS one? The European ones have far less ROM space. You could try a smaller system partition by modifying the flash.cfg file in the folder which you flash CWM from, just do a nandroid backup in CWM first, then restore it into your new smaller system partition after re-flashing CWM with the smaller system partition. I wouldn't go any smaller than 150 mb for a non-Sense ROM, if you go too small then your ROM won't boot up, or will have too little room to run comfortably. But too large a system partition will just waste internal storage space.
But if all your apps are getting installed to your partition by default, 200+ mb is more than enough internal storage for your phone to run nice and smooth. But that's also why I recommend DT's A2SD script, because not only does it move all your apps to the partition, but your dalvik-cache too (anywhere from 30-75 mb) and with the A2SD GUI app, it's easy to do more to make your phone run smooth, like enabling zipalign at bootup.
I have an EU hd2 now i hav installed the zip file of apps2sd u hav attatched in ur reply
I hav downloaded an application apps 2 sd from market to move phone apps to sd ut the only issue is that
Now after moving to sd , a few apps like angry birds, glow hockey and many other games or apps give an error and force closes but when these apps are moved back to phone they run smoothly !!
Why is that that these few apps are not running in sd card???

Though my apps are getting installed in sd card by default but many of the apps do not run unless they are moved to phone's memory !!!
Is there any solution???
I really prefer this method by which my apps are installing in sd card by default but how can i avoid the force close errors in some of the apps ??? Eg - angry birds
Thank you

maybe you have used a rom without root permission. make sure that your rom supports app2sd. Secondly partition your sd card with the help of gparted livecd or you can use the AD recovery's build-in tools to partition your sd card. then flash a rom supporting app2sd. here cm7 recommded, the extra space will be recognized automatically. if you use miui rom, pls make sure that your partition format is ext3. after flashing miui, open terminal-1.su-2.a2sd reinstall-3.reboot automatically-4.open terminal again-5.su-6.a2sd zipalign-7.a2sd cachesd-8.reboot automatically-9.just install whatever you want.

does it the miui rom you are using support app2sd ? and you haven't downloaded app2sd+ from market, if so id get a rom that supports app2sd, then id recommend downloading THIS to fully format your sd card, and would also recommend using THIS to partition your sd card Ext3/4 depending on rom...

This makes me believe that App2sd+ is working, how else is there only 22 mb free? What is the partition size you made?
Things you can do:
Clear Cache of apps
Clear the downloadfile-#.apk in /Cache/ (you need a root explorer to do this)
Backup apps, delete apps, restore apps.
Another thing to do is to start from scratch, reflash your rom, using a backup program to backup your apps. Completly clear caches, and wipe sd card.
DOING THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE AND LOSE ALL SETTINGS
Rommanager is only available for cLK, make sure you have cLK, or phone will boot-loop.
