Known But anyway, tnx for taking your time to post

Samsung is not totally open source anyway.
I'd like to make telephony works on ICS 4.0.3 easier on galaxy 5.

I will try git
It's not there. And they won't release it.
Since when was HTC obligated to release kernel source if they didn't release the binary?
Well regardless I want to try making kernels how do you know the version of the kernel you downloaded ?
You don't understand. The aosp kernel source does not contain board support for the Dinc.

Samsung releases captivate source code...

http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/07/samsung-releases-captivate-source-code/
Has anyone seen this?
Does anyone know if this includes the encrypted drivers that are currently a hurdle in the path of custom ROM development?
I saw more files there than in the Galaxy S source, and for a moment thought the source was there, but actually it was just leftovers from the build process and the source still isn't there.
However, asedeno claims that Samsung are going to release the source, as the modules are GPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7422651&postcount=55
(I'm still not sure if we're confusing "encrypted" with "compiled" here, though..?)

GT-i9000 source is also available online - hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740378

[REF] Kernel source for GT-i9000B (froyo) is now available on opensource.samsung.com

Kernel source for GT-i9000B is now available on opensource.samsung.com.
Search for i9000 and it will display the file "GT-I9000B_Latin_OpenSource_Froyo.zip".
That file incorporates only the files which differ from i9000.

Thanks neldar !
I'll check that out, as you do
PS : lame on them publishing an archive containing just the changes. they really need to apply the same method they learn Working with the kernel with Google.
Also, i guess we will never get the source for their Eclair kernel..
It is a BIG NEWS for i9000b users, becouse, until today we havenĀ“t any custom ROM. With this, it willl change soon, thanks neldar, and thanks supercurio for cheking it,
so, you can get the whole package for the i9000/i9000t, and this, and get a complete source for the i9000b's kernel ?
(i ask this because of supercurios comment about the way its being published, and how its lame)
wow finally
Great news, thank you.

i asked samsung about it some weeks ago and they toldme:
that they made a mistake not posting it but developers were working with froyo and would release the sources for mid december
so, i think you are right.
note: i builded 2 kernels with this code, if anyone is interested, i have it runing on my mobile right now.

How to build:
< Platform >
The Platform is the same as that of the European version.
Get GT-I9000 open source.
: GT-I9000_OpenSource_Froyo_update_JPM.zip
Unzip it, then you will see the file GT-I9000_Platform.tar.gz which includes the Android source code.
< Kernel >
1. Get GT-I9000 open source code:
- GT-I9000_OpenSource_Froyo_update_JPM.zip
Unzip it, then you will see the file GT-I9000_Kernel.tar.gz which includes the kernel source code.
2. Overwrite GT-I9000B Kernel open source code from the Latin American version to Europea kernel open source code.
3. move into the Kernel/ directory
4. Execute 'make aries_latinb_defconfig'.
5. Execute 'make' or 'make -j<n>' where '<n>' is the number of multiple jobs to be invoked simultaneously.
6. If the kernel is built successfully, you will find following files from the top directory:
arch/arm/boot/zImage
net/netfilter/xt_TCPMSS.ko
drivers/onedram_svn/modemctl/modemctl.ko
drivers/onedram_svn/onedram/onedram.ko

1. 2.3 has not been officially released for the Epic. We only have binary leaks, no source code.
2. The CM 7 team is waiting for the official release of 2.3 because the GPL requires Samsung to release the source code then.
The CM7 team needs the source code for the customized Epic kernel & drivers. They may need other source code poeces too.
tl:dr No, since they still do not have the needed source code.
Find more details here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16147166&postcount=24

[Q] What are actually source codes??Pls Help!

hi...
Ever since i have joined xda i have been listening about a particular device getting its source codes released (latestly galaxy note). All that i know is that source codes help the deving community a lot.
But how do they?
Are Source Codes untouched AOSP Roms that are untouched by carrier branding and have the native support for all hardware built in?
Today i stumbled upon opensouce.samsung.com and i found this:
GT-I5800
GT-I5800L GT-I5800_OpenSource.tar.gz
GT-I5800
GT-I5801
GT-I5801 HK
GT-I5801 INDIA GT-I5800_OpenSource_Update1(froyo).zip
GT-I5800D USA GT-I5800D_OpenSource(froyo).zip
GT-I5801 EUR GT-I5801_OpenSource.tar.gz
So these are froyo source codes i guess.
Are these of any use for cm devlopment (cm 6/7).
Sorry for the noobish questions!
Thanks in advance!

the benefit of Cyanogenmod is that it is based on Gingerbread, which we can never get it officially by samsung....and CM contains lots of new features that Samsung will never give us
Source code is made by programmers. They type the code, and code is initially just text. The source code is then compiled into something that the phone can understand. That is what we get on the phone, the compiled stuff. The thing is changing the compiled stuff is harder an more restricted than changing code.
The difference is like the difference between changing/adding to an already finished meal (the compiled stuff) vs changing/adding to the recipe (the source code). You can do more and make more significant changes by changing the recipe (source code).
