Virtuous Quattro RC2 - Capacitive Buttons - Desire HD General

Since I'm still too n00b to post in the Dev Forum I'll post this here.
I just installed this awesome ROM and it all woks pretty fine... except for the bugs everybody has already mentioned in some topic or another.
About the bug regarding the capacitive buttons (the little Home/Menu/Back/Search) non correctly lighting up I found out a peculiar thing not mentioned by anyone else (afaik).
Maybe it could be useful, maybe not.
Anyway... in my phone (DHD ex-Cyanogenmod7, s-off, wiped) they are consistently turned off except when I open an ebook with Aldiko.
It always happens, and they stay ON untill I leave the ebook's pages.
It happens with both pdfs and epubs.
It only happens with Aldiko ... both Kindle and MoonReader failed to show the same glitch.
Just wanted to let people know u_u

its look like kernel problem try diffrent rom on ur phone.

Maybe I will ... this ROM is still too raw (performance-wise) for me right now.
Browser navigation is quite slow and the overall phone is not very snappy (compared to CM7).
But my post was intended as a little help for the Dev Team ... maybe noticing this Aldiko glitch may help them understand where to put theor hands on the kernel.
Or maybe not XD

Umm use a different reader .if the lights stay on maybe a kernel issue just flash lords kernel from the dev section .failing that man use a devs Cyranogen infused rom

Forgot to ask what rom r u running

I used to run CM7.
With that rom the buttons were always ON, as they were meant to.
I usually use the Kindle app and it did nothing strange.
Then I installed (and am currently using) Virtuous Quattro RC2.
With this the buttons are always OFF, which is a bug.
Searching the forums I found out that this is a more or less common bug, and there is no fix for it right now.
But then I read an article about how awesome this Aldiko app is, and decided to try it along with MoonReader and a few others.
Doing this I accidentally discovered that Aldiko somehow "fixes" the button's bug.
Searching the forums it appears no-one else reported this thing to the Virtuous devs.
So I thought: if Aldiko "does something" that fixes the bug, maybe telling the Devs may help them look in the right place and find a solution or a workaround.
That is all

Also running that rom...after trying several. This seems to be the least buggy of all of...I have tried several. The 1beta4 (LC) was the quickest/smoothest. but I had numerous small but annoying issues and loaded Quattro on 1/23. I have an Inspire. I also loaded the Quattro wifi fix and had to load Lordmod for the sound to work..appears to be an issue with Inspire and ICS. Anyway, long story longer...I am also an Aldiko fan/user and don't have any issues with the buttons at all...maybe the difference in phone...or the 2 additional zips made it a non issue?

I'm now running RC3.
Wifi problem is solved.
Capacitive button problem is solved.
General lagginess appears to be solved.
Battery life seems better too.
Strange enough, there is no way to remove the 3g toggle from the task bar
Good job team Virtuous! :-D

I have been running RC3 on my HTC Incredible S for the past few weeks and I never had any problem with the capacitive buttons until recently they stopped glowing and as you mentioned earlier they start working when I open Aldiko app. I read that the problem got solved for the RC3 then why am I having these issues?

stock browser that works in forums?

so I don't like or want to use any of the available browsers, the stock one with tweaks works for me. except one thing....when using forums, which is probably 90% of my browsing, is using several different forum boards.
when you try to create a new three, reply to an existing one, etc. when the keyboard pops up it moves your active text up out of sight. its hard to use it for this when you can't see what you typed, especially with autocoerect turned on it makes posting in forums rather difficult.
is there any fix?
This belongs in general.

Its not the stock browser causing the issue. I gave the same problem with dolphin Hd. I found it works fine when you use it in portrait mode. Landscape isn't useable. I'm running super clean 2.4 btw

Navigation Volume too low

Hi guys, I have an issue with Sat Nav volume. I will try to break it down simply:
Sat Nav [CoPilot and Navigator tested]
Music app [PowerAMP and HTC Music tested]
Audio cable [3.5mm audio jack - plugged into car stereo]
Sound settings all full [set in Quick Settings and also manually set Navigation Volume when Google Navigator is running]
Audio is fine when any music app playing [with or without cable]
Audio is fine when any Sat Nav voice playing [with or without cable]
Audio is fine when any Sat Nav + any Music app both playing (music cuts out and voice becomes audible) [WITHOUT CABLE]
--- Sat Nav voices becomes too low to hear when both Sat Nav and Music playing with cable plugged in ---
This was working perfectly fine on stock HTC (both Froyo and GB) with kernel Buzz OCUV 1.0.6.
I have only seen this issue since flashing Android Revolution HD 5.1.9 > 5.1.10 > 5.1.11 . I have tried different kernels ( Stock ARHD > UnityV2 > UnityV3 ) and also retried Buzz OCUV 1.0.6 but the issue still remains.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be the problem?
Anybody have any ideas at all?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've always had this issue too, All I have been doing is lower the music volume to half, set Navigation Volume to Full and then increase the car volume instead
According to google support forum, It looks like the issue is caused by GB 2.3.3, 2.3.2 does not have this problem so it seems downgrading is the only fix.
I have the same exact problem unfortunately.
I'm guessing you're using Google Navigation instead of HTC's Locations Premium Navigation?
I'm currently on 2.3.3, and I don't really have a problem with any bad navigation volumes. If you're not okay with paying to try out Locations Navigation, don't worry, you have a 1 month worldwide navigation license which you can activate and use for free without any restrictions.
Thanks for your 'input' Vious, but the issue remains no matter what satnav is used, premium or not.
It is a confirmed 2.3.3 issue with multiple threads on the google code forums

I hope they fix this soon. Such a GIGANTIC issue... i can't believe this isn't at all critical for them.
Same problem for me, Copilot support could not fix it for me also, claiming it was a problem with android not them. Used to work on Version 8.x.x.606
If this affects all versions of Android above 2.3.2 then it looks as if I have little choice but to buy an iphone or wp7 phone next, Google are unbelievable sometimes!
6 months and still no fix, I love Android and would hate to switch but this is a complete joke!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to share my solution for this same problem that I've been having since upgrading to the new gingerbread. Note though that this is no longer an issue if you're using the latest google navigation app, but if you're like me and you like to use an offline nav app like CoPilot, then this solution should work for you.
Since this problem was introduced in gingerbread 2.3.3, I thought I would try replacing the libaudiopolicy.so library with one from a gingerbread 2.3.2 rom I had laying around and voila, that seemed to have solved the problem! I haven't tested this thoroughly, but it seems to be working so far. I hope this helps anyone else out there that is still suffering from this issue.
Could you post the file? Also, have you encountered any issues so far?
Perhaps post this in the previously mentioned google code pages for more testers....

Nice one I'll give this a try
I presume the libaudiopolicy.so file you posted is from a Sense ROM, it didn't work for me as I'm running BlackIce which is CM based.
Downloaded an early CM7 nightly based on 2.2.3, copied that file over and it worked!
I have updated the previously referenced Google pages.
Attached is the CM7 2.3.2 libaudiopolicy.so if anyone wants it.

Thanks hexion, you see this is exactly what I have been trying to say all this time - it must be something slightly changed in some audio file somewhere between 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 . I just have no idea about Linux / Android so never knew where to look for such things.
Now all we need is to compare these to see where the changes lie and try to patch the most current libaudiopolicy.so with only the previous Navigation settings, leaving all other new things as is.

Hey rgrover, I'm also on CM7.1 Nightly. I tried renaming old file to libaudiopolicy.so.bak and copied the file you supplied into system/lib but now my device will not load past white HTC screen after reboot. Any advice?
UPDATE: it's OK it seems it was just a permissions problem. Everything working fine now
Hexion, you f**king treat !
My DHD is now pure perfection, with CM7.1 installed and this Sat Nav fix. Everything works at it should and I need nothing else from a phone (apart from battery life, but hopefully I can get Daemon Controller on CM7 at some point with better kernel).
If I had mone I would buy you a bottle JD (actually I would buuy myself one lol, maybe share with you XD )
Apparently, this fix for sat nav apps does not work for Google Navigation and TuneInRadio according to chykal1 on the google page. Music will not be lowered when the nav voice comes on. So if you use TuneInRadio a lot, you probably shouldn't apply this fix. Maybe when someone patches the latest libaudiopolicy.so, then we'll have a true solution.

What would your dream ROM have in it?

What I'd like to see a dev do is take the android source and one of the kernels (ScaryKernel stable preferably) and develop a ROM from the ground up.
Call waiting does not work properly in CM7 or another AOSP based ROM I tried.
GPS has problems fixing in that ROM as well. I believe Sense based ROM users don't have this problem.
What would be really cool is having a nice 2.3.5 ROM with ScaryStable kernel, Android 2.3.5, some, not all of the tweaks from CM7, apps included that are actually useful such as antutu benchmark, kernel manager, rom manager, super user, terminal emulator, speedtest.net, wifi analyzer, gps status, fasterfix stuff like that, HTC GPS drivers, and being able to update profile, and prl and being able to get to the ##code# menus from the dialer (basically need the HTC dialer for this I'm guessing which would also fix call waiting). That would be like the ultimate ROM in my opinion.
Thoughts? And yes, I'm actually thinking about taking this on as my own project if I have to even though I can't program to save my life.
What's a matter with call waiting on ASOP? I've never noticed anything messed up or anything different.....I have predominatly have had cm7 but also ran shiftdeck for awhile and call waiting has worked fine I believe....
I have read others having problems getting gps to get a fix but have never experienced the problem myself.....I know the solution has been to flash sense get a lock n then flash asop and from what I read gps is fixed after that....

Tap manage calls in CM7, tell me what happens.
As for GPS, I found a combination of resetting the GPS and downloading GPS assistance data with GPS status, and using faster fix and setting the proper ntp server while having wireless assistance on helps for a while. I'm still investigating exactly what needs to be done for GPS to to work properly.
I can honestly say I have never had a single problem with GPS on any cyanogen build but i never shut my GPS off I don't even know why It's on maybe for the weather so maybe that info could help someone maybe get a lock right before flashing and leaving GPS on might work but AOSP is fast has no bloat and is very customizable but I am a Sense guy so:
I think a Rom I would be 100% happy with as an all time Rom for right now it would have to be a Sense 3.0 Rom because I absolutely love it, with the HDR and panorama effects added to the camera, overclocked to 1.2 Ghz with a very light theme maybe like Rosie, status bar with no clock and notification area to be semi-trans black with white font a themed HTC_IME and dialer and a custom Glock LockRing that's all

The real question is how does your GPS work with wireless assistance turned off?
And Sense 3.0 is beautiful (mainly talking about the weather themed lock screen with the shortcuts) but I hate the way Sense 2 and 3 manage contacts and it's way too facebook integrated in general which is annoying.

I have to disagree. I love sense bc it has Facebook integration. I like how I set my contacts to their respective profile on my touch pro 2 with wm 6.5 synced with Google and never had to worry about it again. It puts a pic to your contacts and gives u a bday entry which is nice imo.
Now my gps sucks, I have to wait 5-10 mins to get a lock outside or in the car. And sense 2.3 doesn't have kernel source so its limited to the stock kernel.
My dream Rom is MikG, with x99 kernel. I used to love that kernel on 2.2
Sent from your Mom's Jitterbug
My dream Rom would be MikG With x99 or V8 kernel, AND Firerats due to that sucker helps save a lot of space.
My "dream" ROM on the Shift would have to be full blown Sense 3.0 with it running perfectly smooth WITHOUT overclocking. I would want the kernel for sbc and UV. And I would want google + integration added along with FB and twitter.
(Guess thats why its called a dream ROM )

To start out, it would look a LOT like CM7. Same launcher, same extras. NO Sense UI.
(for the record, I know that most of this is available, it just means installing a number of extra packages)
Add in all the google
T9 predictive input for the dialer
A nicer looking messaging app that doesn't fail every time you try to send a text longer than 1 message.
A few of the nice sound options from Sense UI, including having the ringer volume automatically reduce when the phone is picked up, automatically switching to speakerphone when you set the phone face-down during a call, and double-tapping the home key to see all your launcher pages at once.

1. Gmail, Voice, Talk, Maps, Latitude (yes, I know it's bad for battery AND privacy, but it's fun and I don't plan on committing crimes, cheating on my wife, lieing to my boss or ever being worth enough money to kidnap; so I don't care if people know where I am.), Navigation, and of course, Market.
2. I haven't made any changes to the built in messaging app of any kind, but I'm also running the latest nightly. Doesn't matter too much, since I've installed GoSMSpro.
3. Yes, I'm well aware that many of those features kill the battery. That's why I like CM7, and only want a small handful of the highly useful features from Sense.
well no matter which rom i try, i always end up installing launcher 7, so to have that already integrated would be nice for the drawer, and a rom that lets you use the volume bottoms to skip tracks in your music player ,

[Q] Graphic Glitch (2D Overlays)

Hey guys!
I tried to search for this issue but never found someone with the same prob.
Everytime an overlay that highly contrasts with it's background I get some kind of a graphic glitch... I took a screenshot to show it better:
i51[dot]tinypic[dot]com/qx3y2o.png
I'm running Oxygen 2.2.2 r1 with Franco 17/Sep...
245Mhz - 1024Mhz (SmartassV2)
Do you know that glitch? Am I all alone here? Do you know any way to patch it?
Thanks a lot!
Well, it seems that noone has this issue... But anyway... here are my findings:
It ONLY happens in Oxygen ROM... with or without FF Kernel... any I/O scheduler, governor, frequency...
So it's clearly an Oxygen issue with my phone... CM7, MIUI and Stock all work fine...
The issue is clearly seen by anyone that uses Dolphin HD browser... If you press the "Draw gesture" corner, the suposed overlay comes all distorted...
I don't know how the android 2D libs work, but my experience in OpenGL in PC's it's like the Z buffer is all confused... Or if textures are being draw in the wrong order...
It only happens with semi-transparent overlays (could be some blend bug)... I don't really know... It seems a prob with the 2D libs, given the fact that 3D works flawlessly...
Could anyone with Oxygen ROM try Dolphin HD to see if you have the issue?
Thanks... I really like Oxygen, but this problem is a killer!
EDIT: (corrected some errors)
EDIT 2: When trying Dolphin HD, enter www.google.com before trying the gesture thing... The problem is best seen that way...
ok you are not alone, same happen here , but is not big deal for me
Ah! At least I'm not alone
Well, the thing is that this could easily be related to the Flash not working bug...
And the bug is a bit anoying IMO...
Same problem here. Very annoying!

The unlocked ICS bootloader is required.
If you encounter an error during the flashing process use another recovery, TWRP is known to cause problem with this rom, a CWM based recovery should do it.
If you have problems with the Google Play Store after a bit, uninstall updates for it.
If you want to avoid the lockscreen bug, you can disable it in settings-security.
Report bugs & issues with your attached logcat in the development thread.
How to logcat?
I haven't tested all features yet. The only thing that does not work is face unlock so far.

@lowsum, thanks for taking the initiative.
I will ask that you maintain the OP, providing some info ie FAQ, links for gapps etc
Will get a thread opened up in dev later today...
You guys may need to track down a better jb gapps package to use, I think the one listed in the thread is causing a lot of the reported issues...
Only issue...
Excellent start... so impressed!!
Only issues I have is with percentage battery not showing in status bar and an invisible slide on wake up. It works but can't see it... a little tricky but no deal breaker.
Huge congrats on a fine and rapid effort!
*EDIT* Odd... as if by magic, the slider is back! Only thing I think I tried was rebooting a few times AND turning off BOTH screen animations on wake / lock... Weird, but happy now!
My test results
Flashed CM10+gapps.jb.20120717. GMail and some other Google apps are not included and you'll need to get those separately from the Play Store.
SOFTWARE: Market apps did not auto restore; but all of them were able to be manually installed with no errors. I used ICSBrowser with Thor's ICS ROM...this app does not work in JB. GoogleNow, Netflix, and YouTube work great. Alternate launchers also work great.
HARDWARE: The rotation lock toggle doesn't work, but there is a quick setting option for that anyway. Sound works flawlessly. External Seagate 500GB hard drive works. Acer USB mouse works. Acer BT keyboard works. DSLR Controller works with my Canon EOS Rebel XT as far as reading the memory card; but cannot capture images which was no different in ICS. I could not get a GPS lock with GPS status nor could the Navigation app get GPS.
I have not tested any games yet. I'll load up some of my favorites tonight or tomorrow and report back.
THIS IS EASILY A DAILY DRIVER. Many many many thanks to WDS!

@waydownsouth: My pleasure, I will maintain this thread no problem. That's the least I can do. Keep it up, it's working amazingly well already.
On my side GPS doesn't work, lockscreen sometime disappears and like most rom since ICS there's some screen flickering noticable on low brightness and dark color (kernel related I think). Battery percentage is also not showing in status bar. I had a couple of browser crash, but it was with Quick ICS Browser wich has been updated to support JB.

There's a lot of CM9 code still to be ported to CM10, things will get better as things go on.
GPS is still very broken, there have been some permissions changes in how the gps lib communicates with the native proprietary daemon... I have a workaround in mind, just need to get it implemented...

Thanks mate..this is far above expectation for the early release..great job.. :good:
If you have problems with the Google Play Store after a bit, uninstall updates for it. I was able to use it after having problems as flashing GApps didn't help.
Sent from my A500 using xda app-developers app CM10 Unaofficial.
Thanks for all the hard work on this ROM. But would it be possible to implement acerring into this build?
Does HDMI out work?

No sorry, this is CyanogenMod, not an acer based rom.

Maybe? not tested, can check in a few hours when I get home...
This is an awesome ROM! Thanks to everyone that has put work into this. Just to report on three issues I have found:
-Gmail app crashes every darn time. The app seems to be a hot mess.
-The unlock screen seems to go "invisible" after the tablet has been on for a while. You kinda have to guess where the button is and swipe.
-I use a bluetooth keyboard. Normally the touch keyboard goes hidden when BT keyboard is connected, but not in this AOSP ROM.
Thanks guys for the awesome work.
For a first build this is awesome! Even camera works!!
I'm using it as a daily.
I do have the following issues. (This is not a complain, I'm thoroughly impressed with this rom, this is just me reporting the issues i've experienced so far)
1) GPS doesn't work.
2) Gmail, calander, and Reddit is fun GP crash occasionally. Here is the gmail logcat: https://www.dropbox.com/s/taavl8kacv23q2z/gmail-logcat.txt
I think this is those same memory leak issues we had in the ICS rom.
3) after a while the lockscreen becomes "invisible", but still functions. In the mean time I just disabled it.
4) When importing photos from a DSLR into gallery over usb the new photos do import to the tablet but do not get added to gallery. It took an hour and two reboots before they showed up (no matter what i tried).
5) despite being set to "wifi always on" wifi disconnects during sleep
6) Plugging in a usb keyboard does not hide the onscreen keyboard
Awesome work fantastic rom!!

Just tested it, and it works flawlessly!
Tested the hdmi, audio is not working (it did in hc3.2)
My screen, after wakeup, is black after tab has been asleep for more than a minute. I have to press power button to restart tab every time. I have turned off animation for both on and off.
Thanks
