HBO Go? - Kindle Fire General

Is there a way to get HBO Go working? I'm using the latest MoDaCo rom (Which is fantastic by the way). The app installs but says that the device is not supported.

I would love this to work also. Fyi, same result on cm7 and ics.

Same on rooted stock 6.2.2 as well.

As a workaround, turn wifi off and start the app. When it says it needs network access you can turn wifi back on.
It does stop playing if you try to adjust the volume while it's playing though. And for me it's awful stuttery but I'm not sure if that's due to my internet connection.

Stuttery

Also stuttery for me, even with a healthy connection. Regardless, thanks for sharing the workaround.

Thanks. This gave me access to it. Unfortunately it force closes every time I attempt to login. Wouldn't happen to have a link to the current apk would you? The one I'm using may be outdated. Thanks again.

Vibrant wifi issue?

If I am at home using my personal router, my wifi works great and I have no problems at all. However, when I am at the library, which is everyday for me, if i try to use their wifi I instantly get this error message that the page cannot be displayed even though my phone claims i am connected to their wifi.
anyone else have this issue? it is extremely annoying and i downloaded wifi fixer but it didnt fix anything.
any ideas?
If it works at home then I doubt it's an issue on your side, sometimes on networks such as school campuses and libraries you have to register your device on the network for it to be able to access the internet. Have you asked the library on how you can do that?
Well it is a public library and they have fliers up that tell you how to use their wifi. I thought it was an issue with my phone so I didn't bother asking a librarian. If no one else has a solution I will definitely be asking tomorrow.

well, Android has had that issue ever since, and it is still not fixed.
I think Samsung Galaxy S gets around it in the Wi-Fi proxy config (under settings, Wireless and Network, hit the menu button at the bottom of the screen, and go to Advanced), but you need to know the proxy hostname and port (I think the default will be 80 for HTTP requests).
I haven't tested it though.
Here's the issue log from code.google.com
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1273&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
Mine cannot get on WiFi at the rink I go to. Other people could not get their notebooks or netbooks onto that WiFi as well. My HD2 connects to that WiFi just fine, though.
I don't think it's a Vibrant-specific issue.
I've had a similar problem with the wifi network on my campus. It redirects to a logon page that the vibrant won't even display. Apparently the android browser has an issue with security certificates that aren't configured properly. Froyo is supposed to fix it, but in the mean time try connecting with the firefox browser. I'm able to connect with it, then switch back to the regular browser or any other program. Once you're logged in you're good to go.

[Q] How to allow incoming TCP connections (WebDroid, SSHDroid, etc.)?

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

I tried this on Frankinstine's awesome ROM, but no cigar. There has to be a firewall rule or setting we can tweak to allow this kind of traffic...

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Don't know, it's probably in the kernel, so shouldn't be too difficult, but then again, I haven't really got a clue about building ROMs.

[Q] Verizon 3G vs. WiFi (problem)

On my Xoom, Verizon 3G kicks WiFi butt. This shouldn't be.
I thought maybe it's the WiFi network(s) I have been connecting to, but I have sampled a variety of networks including my home network with a very strong signal.
Quite a few 'time outs'. Symptom really seems to be if the connect is idle for any length of time, it disconnects. I quite regularly have to do something ''twice', including in 3 different browsers, to push through to a new connection.
Any similar from other users, possible diagnosis's or solutions?
Thanks in Advance.
I think there might be issues with some access points and different tablets. I've heard of similar things with laptops and ipads as well.
The general consensus here however is that the xoom has the fastest wifi out of any tablet device. I don't have the link but I believe one of the review sites tested this.

Thanks for the reply. Further reseach shows its apparently a known issue and is being looked at, for example:
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-help/317-connecting-through-wifi-issues.html
And likely root cause:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/46526?pubid=987654
A temporary partial work around is to change the WiFi disconnect policy to the "When screen turns off" setting. you will get a delay of about 5 seconds when first connecting to the internet after unlock, but apparently the memory leak is cleared when you reconnect this way. Continual long term browsing will eventually choke up.
No can't say as I have had any wireless issues, other than not being able to tether to my phone, but that's the phone's problem, not my Xoom, stupid Samsung.

I have had the browser FC on me after long wifi browsing. So this bug may have leaked out without getting fixed. i have tried the 3g that much but i will tonight and see what happens.

Love the eventuall lol. Yeah its not that big of a deal. Its worth it to be a first 3.0 user.
I've definitely experienced this as well. Wi-Fi disconnects and won't reconnect unless I reboot or manually turn off/on. Question, if I use the temp fix to change the Wi-Fi disconnect policy, doesn't that mean my 3G will be used and therefore my allotment of 1Gb / month will be eaten when not using the device due to background sync? Is there a way to turn off 3G as well?

Just turn 3g off... which is what I do, I will only have it on for road trips, ect.
Plus it will only use 3g if WiFi is not available.
Same issue
I had the same issue on my Xoom. Everything after long video streaming, the problem started and the video start to lag and eventually freezed.
If i try the turn off the wifi, it wil stuck at "turning off.........." forever untill i reboot it.

[Q] WiFi hell - WiFi connected but no Internet access

My a500 is stock running 4.0.3.
Recently the WiFi has become totally unreliable. It shows that it is connected to my network, with good signal strength, but most of the time none of my apps can connect to the Internet. As far as I can tell it seems to connect on its own every few hours because my email is downloading from time to time while the tablet is unattended.
At any time, I can make the WiFi work by turning it off in the settings and then turning it back on. It will work for a while but before long the Internet connection is gone (even though the WiFi is connected). This is really annoying and tedious. I shouldn't have to constantly do this.
I have lots of other WiFi devices and all of them are working just fine; this includes another HTC tablet, cell phones, laptop, etc.
No changes have been made to the a500 in ages so this definitely isn't due to installing any new software or anything like that. My WiFi used to work just fine until this problem popped up. Now it's a major PITA to use. Yes, of course I have tried power cycling the tablet and that doesn't solve the problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I haven't tried, and I was hoping to avoid that because I hate having to reinstall all my apps. Hoping there's another option, especially since I may go though with the restore and still have the problem.
I did some more research and found that other devices with WiFi problems were fixed by turning WMM off in their router's QOS or turning mixed mode off in their wireless settings. My WMM is on and so is mixed mode. Anyone think that could be the root of my problem?
Possibly. Try it

yeah alot of people tried saying to increase router timeout or somethin like that and letting it connect to a differant wifi to fix it but it never worked i dont know why haha i agree i hate installing al my apps over thats why i dont flash roms alot lmao. mmm make sure your not exceeding maximum amount of wireless connections for your router and that you didnt accidentally block it lol

That could possible help, if you do not want to do factory reset. There are lots of applications that will save all your applications like app backup and restore or titanium backup.

I'm not rooted and had little motivation to root my tablet.
Maybe I'll use a less sophisticated solution like App List Backup which will at least save a list of my installed apps. And IIRC it's supposed to save a link to the Play store for each app but I din't think I've ever gotten that part to work.

[Q] Varying results using nexus player on different routers

Hi guys,
So I just got the nexus player for Christmas. After struggling through wifi connectivity issues, I finally managed to get the NP up and running. However not perfectly. Far from it.
I've trialled using the player on two different wifi connections:
1. My home wifi network running on a tp link dual band 1900AC modem router
2. My wireless access point set up on my phone
I've had the best results on my phone's AP, where pretty much everything works, until the connection drops after 1/2 an hour or so. My home wifi network is much less successful.
When connected to my home wifi network, I have the following issues:
1. The Google play store never shows any apps. It's just a blank page.
2. The play music app shows results, and music appears to initiate, but music doesn't actually play. The progress bar doesn't move.
3. The YouTube app won't yield results for any searches. YouTube clips from the home screen play just fine though.
Is anyone able to shed some light on this for me? I'm baffled. I can't fathom any plausible explanation for these issues. The problem is clearly related to my modem router, as I don't have these issues with my phone's AP. But why would some functions work fine (YouTube videos playing from home screen) and others not work at all (YouTube app yielding no results). All this while it all works fine on my phone's AP??
Please, your assistance would be valued greatly.
Oh and merry Christmas all!
I wish I had a solution for you, but I don't. I too have had issues with the Nexus Player dropping its connection, and with the blank tiles related to a lost connection. I love the NP when it works, but it's really buggy.
Actually, here's something to try. Do you normally have your phone's AP always running? I have two wireless networks in my home, and I found that when my NP "remembered" the settings for both of them, I'd get regular disconnects. I have the NP set to only remember/use one network, and I've been getting less dropouts.
