[Q] Fire Won't Boot into Anything (Including Recovery) - Kindle Fire General

Hello -
I installed TWRP with the kindle fire utility and everything seemed ok.
I just rebooted and the device is stuck at the fire logo, it wont go past it. I cant change the boot mode at all (waiting for device error) and I cant get into recovery by pressing the power button.
Any ideas on how to help?
Thanks!!

close the kfu utility and all adb tasks..close them in task manager. keep kindle connected with usb.
long press power button for 18 seconds itll turn off. then turn back on and open a brand new kfu terminal window and tell it to boot you into normal.
or just install and sdk with adb and fastboot and when the device turns on be ready with 'fastboot devices' and if it shows you fastboot xxxxxxxxxx then do 'fastboot oem bootmode 4000' or whatever it is.

Fastboot, waiting for device.

Hi guys, I recantly decided to update my gt540 from 2.1 to 2.3.3
I followed steps by steps on by this tutorial - http://fdapps.comuf.com/downloads/The LG GT540 Optimus reference page.pdf
Installed rom with fastboot, tried to install Clockwork with fastboot, I typed fastboot flash recovery C:\recovery.img , and then there's <waiting for device> , doesn't go further, I have everything installed sdk, usb drivers and usb debugging activated. Maybe there's some problem with key combination, to get in fastboot. From google I understood, that I have to turn phone off, then press and hold camera + press power button! I did other combinations too, but didnt work.
Just waiting for device..
Any ideas? I read, that if you're in fastboot there's just a black screen, and on pc desktop appears fastboot usb. I have non of that.
Thanks for help in advance.

Hello
1. you need to install a ROM with fastboot the most common is europe + fastboot (KDZ) ROM.
http://www.mediafire.com/?96nu9lb6afx22a7
2. once its finished phone will reboot, then fast login into fastboot mode CAMERA + POWER
3. You are missin 1 thing, OEM usb drivers not GOOGLE usb drivers as some tutorial says, those are just for Android Developer Phones (ADP), Nexus One, and Nexus S.
LG_Android_USB_Driver_Rebuilt
http://www.mediafire.com/?pbigrb8cimmxa4d
* these drivers are for your pc to recognize your phone in fastboot mode, they are not the normal LG usb drivers
4. for install the drivers abouve follow these smll tutorials
* if using windows 7:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#Win7
* if using windows XP:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#WinXp
once is installed plug your phone in fastboot mode to your pc, now your pc has to recognize your phone wait until it finish installing the drivers and read it properly
5. unzip the new ROM files into C:\*SDK\tools
6. open CMD Terminal and go to C:\*SDK\tools, type:
cd C:\*SDK\tools
7. once in, type
fastboot flash recovery recovery_clockwork_3.x.x.x_swift.img"
fastboot -w
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
*Just in case it drops you an error AdbWinApi.dll missing here is the file. place it in C:\*SDK\tools and try again

[Q] Bricked my fire using Kindle Fire Utility

I tried to use the kindle fire utility in order to root my fire, but when I tried to use it, the first thing I did was install the drivers..... Then change it into fast boot mode, which I didn't realize would make it automatically reboot.... With out TWRP, or the fire fire fire boot loader. It is stuck at the "Kindle Fire" splash screen, and does not even connect to my computer. Is there a way to change it back to normal boot mode? Because when I tried to use the kindle de-bricking utility, it did not work, because it says waiting for device. If anyone could give me some advice, I would appreciate it.
May not help, but try the following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21477909&postcount=13
have you tried to hold pwr button for ~20sec ?
I had the same problem and it was because the TWRP file was corrupt or incomplete. It went to reboot, and just stuck on the Kindle Fire logo. tried resetting, and everything. What I did was re-install the drivers, plug the device back in to the computer and even if KFU says your kindle isn't connected, try changing the boot mode back to normal. It worked for me and I restarted and tried the whole TWRP installation process over with a non-corrupt file and it worked just fine.

I actually did, I had tried a hard reboot several times.
then i would try as suggested above - if it don't work you can do it manually by opening a (elevated) command prompt and cd to the tools folder of kfu (eg c:\kfu\tools) and issue "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000"
if it says <waiting for device> cold reboot the kf - the command should be picked up and finished - another reboot should bring you to normal boot
if this not working then you should check your drivers:
for fastboot it should be "android adb interface"

I tried your method and it rebooted my kindle succesfully, although it restored itself to factory conditions (which i dont think it's a bad thing, since i was scared of seeing the device stuck with the logo)
I will try to run kfu all over again and see if it works this time. I'll let know how it goes.
Thanks!
EDIT: Which twrp file did you use the second time? Can you post a link to it?
EDIT2: Nevermind about the first edit; the second time, kfu downloaded twrp instead of using its own recovery.img (which i believe is the corrupt file). I still cannot install firefirefire; a command line says "'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." Any help with that? Or can my kindle be safe without firefirefire? Thanks again!
it's not save without fff ! you need it to get to twrp and to have fastboot available for some seconds during startup
would recomend to try with kfu 0.9.3 and 0.9.1
some people have success with only one of the versions
Glad you got back to stock at least. The problem I had was that my internet connection timed out when KFU was downloading the files for the TWRP and FFF installation. There were incomplete files that KFU recognized as being there when i re-tried and it tried to install them again. You need to make sure you delete the files in the TWRP folder before you try again that way KFU won't find them and will download them again, hopefully successfully this time. You could also just delete the entire KFU you already have on your computer and download the whole thing again and re-try.
Hopefully this helps.

That means it can't find the ADB.exe in tools for Kindke Fire Utility. The tools folder must be in the same folder as the batch file.

Can you please tell me how you changed the boot mode because i also bricked my kindle by the kfu.
- run kfu
- key in "1" and enter (bootmode menu)
- key in "1" and enter (bootmode normal)
that's it
can't explain easier ...

Not Exactly. First he needs to check the device status by pressing 0, becouse if device have offline mode in KFU, he can't do much (propably he will need to use fastboot comands rather than adb)

btw. kfu is using fastboot commands

it is nearly impossible to realy brick a kf - just do as i suggested
if it's not working tell us what exactly happens ...
some important hints from the op of kfu:
Known Tricks
•If you end up stuck at the yellow triangle, in KF Utility select Boot Normal, wait for it to say <waiting for device> and then press and hold the power button 20 seconds until the fire turns off, then when its off turn it back on. This sometimes happens, I have yet to find a clean solution
•If you end up stuck with a yellow triangle, do not EVER unplug it. Leave it plugged in. Check the windows drivers to make sure it isnt showing as "kindle" again. Fastboot is different and can cause this.

TWRP 2.1 | fff 1.4a problem

Rom: Stock
Rooted with KFU 0.9.5
TWRP 2.1
fff 1.4a
The problem I'm having is that when I boot my KF up it goes to fff. I get 3 options to boot from (this is whenever I power down the KF). When I choose to boot to recovery, the power light turns orange for two secs and then it boots; but back to the fff screen. I did this about four times in a row and it still boots back to the ffa screen.
If I choose ~normal boot~, It boots up fine. When I try to use KFU to boot to recovery or fast boot, it says that it is waiting for device. I tried this several times but no luck.
I want to get into recovery. That's my goal. I'm guessing that the KF is not booting in fastboot for it to go into recovery. I tried to reinstall TWRP 2.1 with KFU and it gets to the point where it's waiting for the device and nothing happens.
I'm not very advanced in this stuff. Please be patient with me. Thank you for all your help.
what command are you using to install recovery?
ok
download twrp 2.1.1.img onto pc
turn off kindle (20 second hold) with the usb cable unplugged from the kindle
open terminal where you have fastboot located.
type the following:
fastboot flash recovery </enter/path/to/recovery.img/here>
press enter
you should see waiting for device
then plug in your usb to kindle
this should power up the kindle and fastboot flash a new recovery.
then type
fastboot reboot
note:
(there is a space between recovery & /
i also find it easier to put a space after "recovery" then drag & drop recovery.img into terminal)
ok...
I did everything you said and the cmd console was still <waiting for device> after I plugged in the KF.
I checked in device manager and that's ok for the adb (it says: android composite adb interface).
Still looking to get into twrp recovery.

There's probably something wrong in KFU's process. Could you at least show us its log or a screenshot?
reflash twrp using smirkit. than try to get into recovery again

if its waiting for device your pc is issuing fastboot command. so as you say its your kindle.
one of the above methods should work.
imho smikis's smirkit is nice to use
edit: can you copy and paste your commands after you try to flash new recovery

can't enter TWRP on Kindle HD 7

I'm in need of help. I believe I was successfully installed the 2nd bootloader and TWRP. However, after having been once in TWRP and made back up of the Kindle, on boot up I can't seem to enter TWRP. I hold the Volume up button until the logo turn blue and let go, but it default back on to the normal logo and enter into the Kindle. What could be the problem?
Try booting into the kindle os, install a mobile terminal or use an adb shell and run
Code:
su -c 'reboot recovery'
this should force it to reboot into recovery.

Thank you! that did the trick.
Can't enter TWRP either abd shell command didn't work
Hi,
I was following the guide from the cyanogen mod website "Install_CM_for_tate" and after selecting the optional Backup, which ran through w/o errors, I was asked to restart and since then, I can't enter TWRP anymore.
I tried the adb shell command as suggested earlier in this thread but get an error 'device not found'. I though adb doesn't work in fastboot mode, why should I use it then?
Device is Kindle Fire HD 7, 3rd gen., 2012 (Tate)
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
returns the product
"fastboot -I 0x1949 reboot bootloader" might do it, or you could just hold volume down as soon as you power on the kindle and keep holding it till you see twrp logo.

Kindle rom wiped - adb device offline

I had a rooted kindle fire hd with CM rom. Wanted to update rom to kitkat. In TWRP, wiped everything, cache, data, system and dalvik.
I rebooted the recovery, so i can sideload the rom files thru adb. But the kindle is stuck at blue kindle fire logo.
If i try adb, it says device offline and no command works. Tried kindle fire firstaide, it is stuck when starting daemon.
Any way to bring it to life?

something similar happened to me yesterday,
have you tried getting into twrp manually ? sometimes it takes a while to boot into recovery id give it 15 to 20 seconds holding the vol+ button. if you cant get into twrp, you might have to use the system restore tool, but let me know if you can get into twrp first.
When it went to fastboot mode just before this happened, I pushed twrp.img thru PC and rebooted hoping I can get to recovery. Tried power vol+ for several seconds, starts with orange logo and then blue logo then stuck at black screen.
Not sure if I can send to amazon with blue logo showing up.

That should still be fixable from fastboot if you can't get it into recovery... No reason to send it back to amazon.

Is there any way to get into fastboot mode? I tried vol - and power for a minute and also vol + and power. If i enter adb devices, i see the device but it says offline. If i use fastboot devices command, no devices are seen. PC shows it as Kindle but can't access its storage.
If the logo turns blue you can get it into fastboot without a fastboot cable, otherwise you will need a fastboot cable, unless he device is a 8.9" model. Which model do you have? Also doing it without a fastboot cable would probably be easier from Linux if you never installed the fastboot drivers on windows because the device will only show up for a brief second and then disappear, and I will state this now in case you don't know, adb commands do not work with fastboot mode, you use fastboot commands with fastboot mode. I recommend a Ubuntu 13.10 live CD and then telling it to install the fastboot package in the Ubuntu software center and running "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" from a terminal with the device in plugged and powered off, and when it says waiting for device, plug the kindle in and you should be able to get into fastboot.

I have a 7". Thanks for the tip, i finally was able to boot into the system. I downloaded ubuntu but thought of trying it in windows. The only fastboot command that worked is the getvar product you mentioned. The part i missed is, enter the command and then plug the powered off kindle. Finally got into the fastboot logo.
After that none of the other fastboot command worked - said waiting for device. But kffirstaide worked luckily. I pushed 7.2.3 into the kindle and kindle is back working.

sam298 for future, encase you cant get into fastboot, this adapter will get you there and you can use your regular usb power cable with it so you have a factory cable at all times, especially since you have a kindle. i bought 2 of these cause why not they were $9.00 dollars each. and no i dont make anything from these, i just seen it on hashcodes post and thought it would be good to buy one encase i need to put something in fastboot. i got mine and fast, took only a few days to get it from this guy.
