Stock unrooted 2.3.4 GB rom - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to return my phone to original because the speaker is dead. I am currently 2.3.4 rooted S-off with a MIUI rom. I was going to download the unrooted rom but it was on megaupload. Where can I find it now? Please excuse me if I wrote something noobish.

I found a rooted 2.3.4 stock gingerbread, but now the reverse gfree method is not working. It always freezes at the dd if=/your part7number.bin part. Does anyone know the problem. Thank you.

Did you download a file called PD15IMG. IT its the stock rom. If you have the file just drag it from your comp to your sd card. Restart the phone holding the volume button down and the power. Hboot screen should come up, press volume up and it will automatically install the stock rom, press volume up when it asks if you want to update. If you dont have the file private message me and I will send it to you via email bro

Yeah. I got the pd15img, and now I am stock 2.3.4 unrooted. The problem I still have s-on. Do you think HTC will care?

If you have s-on then you are good. They shouldn't even know it was rooted.

My B. I meant s-off. I tried to do the method to revert in the true perma root post, but it does not let me dd if= the part7 backup. My phone just freezes and reboots. Will they care if I have s-off?

Wow. Speaker randomly fixed itself. Now to reroot. Is it any different since I already have S-off but not root.

Just run through gfree method, it's easier and less nerve wracking the second time around.

Problem rooting new MT4G

I have a red mt4g and is rooted no problem running cm7. My wife picked up a mt4g and wants rid of the sense crap. I've tried everything and can't get root to stick. I've been reading the threads and am curious people mention your phone being pre-ota. What ota update are they referring to. Only thing I've noticed is my phone is PVT ENG and hers is PVT SHIP.
Any thoughts?

Shortly after receiving my MT4G there was an OTA update. Supposedly this should occur for all MT4G's, afaik.
What method are you using?? Give us some more info. Gfree method has been known to work for others having issues. I'd suggest trying that out.
Same problem I encountered with my Bro's phone with the same HBOOT as yours. .86.00 is a new HBOOT and I think it needed to downgrade?
My phone is HBOOT .85 and I have no problem rooting it over and over.

no offense, but i still think your doing it wrong.
my mytouch4g info is as follows
pvt ship s-off
hboot .86.0000
its rooted, running cm7 without issues...
your hboot being .85 if im not mistaken is you installed the engineering hboot as well.. if you only perform temproot, gfree, permroot, reboot. and don't do the engineering hboot, you will still maintain the .86 hboot which is fine for flashing custom roms.
the .85 hboot gives you more flashable abilities, ie official rom releases from other countries or whatever. unnecessary for someone who just uses custom known working roms..
My phone has the same hboot as the phone you are trying to root. I've never tried any other method but, I was able to gain root using grankin's True permaroot guide. But if I remember correctly you will need adb for it.

I had this issue today. Ive rooted a few of these including floor models at local stores. This one today wouldnt turn s off. No matter what method I did. I ended pushing the root files through adb to the device and rebooting after everystep. Once it got s-off no roms would load except iced glacier. Royal glacier and thunderbolt both wouldnt make it past the splash screen. In the end got root but wondering why this was such a pain.

Here's what I would recommend:
1) Back up whatever you want.
2) Run a RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060 to run to completely stock
3) Run this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
Then you're good to go.
How did you root? What android version are you on? The latest OTA cannot be rooted as of yet.

Depending on where you are at with your internal workings and any update you may or may not have done, you may have trail and error back to the 3.29 ruu if your getting errors, so don't give up.
Is there any word as to if it is even possible to root the ota 2.3.3 and if there is anybody working on it? I figure unrevoked has ahold of it lol

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ANY USEFUL INFORMATION OR APPS FROM YOUR PHONE, BECAUSE YOUR ROM IS GOING TO BE WIPED.
First download the attachment. Remove the numbers from the name of the file so that it is renamed PC36IMG and place this on the root of your SD card. Power off the phone, then boot into your bootloader by holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time. Accept the update. If everything went OK, that should get rid of that Revolutionary at the top of your bootloader and flash the phone back to S-ON.
Next remove the file from your SD card by either rebooting your phone or going into your RECOVERY. I'm not going to give all the details for this.
Next, download this file.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VSFLE9CD
Rename it PC36IMG, place it on your SD card and follow the same steps as you did with the first PC36IMG file.
Let me know if that worked, because how to unroot the phone has seemed to be forgotten around here. Everyone is just happy to root.

That doesn't work completely for Gingerbread.
You can downgrade the ROM back to Froyo, but the S-ON tool will not work with the new bootloader, and the bootloader will not downgrade by running any of the PC36IMG Froyo files or RUUs if Revolutionary was used to turn S-OFF.
Assuming that you mean to unroot and regain S-OFF on an Evo 4G that was rooted using Revolutionary...
It seems that this has been worked out.

You need to flash an unrooted stock ROM to roll back your HBOOT to an upgradable version. I assume you used the modded 6.17 HBOOT to S-ON, but didn't flash a stock ROM to restore your HBOOT to stock?
Because the modded HBOOT is a higher version number than Revolutionary, most likely it believes you're already rooted.
I used RUU to update my phone to latest stock Rom and flashed the attachment on this thread

You essentially have two options:
- Run the RUU (ROM Update Utility) for the latest stock ROM on your PC
- Flash the latest stock ROM, in PC36IMG.zip format through FastBoot
Files for either/both of those can be found in my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17206283&postcount=5

Seriously go pick any phone and look them up on eBay. The rooted ones usually sell for more than the unrooted ones.

Root it real quick!
All you need is to put the 2.2 PD15IMG.zip on your SD card and reboot into bootloader and you'll have a 2.2 phone pretty quick. Then you can run Visionary and you'll be set. Should take a total of 15 minutes, including the time to download 2.2 and Visionary.
Then you'll have a fully rooted S-Off phone to sell on eBay. Be sure to put that in big letters in the auction description.

After doing that, how do you get back to 2.3.4 without losing root privileges?
You install custom recovery and flash a pre-rooted 2.3.4 ROM.
There's always an option to remove HBOOT from the 2.3.4 PD15IMG.ZIP and flash it through HBOOT, and then install a custom recovery and flash su.zip in it. But it's a bit more complicated.

download a custom gingerbread rom
here is one that's pretty popular;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504718
If you are S-Off
Grab Froyo 2.2.1 zip from this forum. Make sure it is called PD15IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sdcard
Shut phone off & boot into HBoot (vol down + pwr button)
Have it load the PD15IMG.zip file and once its done your phone will be back to running Froyo.
Now grab Visionary+ & root.rar (from this forum) & a terminal emulator & a file explorer.
Put visonary+.apk on your sdcard and run it via file explorer for temp root
Extract root.sh to /sdcard/root
now load up terminal emulator and type:
su
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
Let it run (takes a minute sometimes)
Once that is done go back to Visionary+ and "Perm root" reboot and you should have perm root.
Now just Clockword Rom manager and you can flash whatever ICS rom you want. (running CM9-unofficial personally)
I wish i could remove a thanks.
This will only work if the phone has a good eMMC chipset. If they have a bad one. it will not work.

trying to root via gfee and can't get visionary to work, it just says "rooting" forever. I'm on stock Froyo... any idea?

Gave up on root.sh? Lol. Make sure usb debugging is enabled and reboot between attempts.
