Hi folks,
I bought Xperia X8 3 days ago and this is my first Android phone. I want to root it but I'm not sure if that would affect the GSM network because it's locked on one operator.
Cheers
No it wont affect your operator. Rooting has no connections whatsoever to mobile operators. I have a rooted and unlocked bootloader and loaded roms and kernels to it. But I see no difference in the operator. Hope it helped. If it did press the thanks button plz

thank u for reply but there is no solution free (like ROM flashing etc.)
if i rom flash it will be unlocked?
i unlock xperia X1i by rom flashing metod,6 month before it locked from japan.
I got an email from omnius support , following :
"The bootloader is unlocked automatically during the unlock of S1 QSD8250 and S1 MSM7227 phones
Added explicit menu option for unlocking bootloader of S1 QD8250/MSM7227/MSM8x55(T) phones.
It does almost the same as the network unlock operation.
Once you have an unlocked bootloader, you may freely reflash the phone without any limitations" .
And for promo period :
"4 days promotion period is coming: All Omnius's features are going to be for free.
When? During Easter: since 6th April 2012, 00:00 UTC until 9th April 2012, 23:59 UTC.
All you need is to have any Omnius account (no license or credit will be required). For those who still don't have it, you can register on this website to get one.
Prepare your android phones and help us spread this news around the Globe.
Enjoy!

1) What date code do you have?
2) Did you flash back the stock 2.1 ROM, and rooted it?

Does this work for removing simlock? And, if it does, is there any risk of doing so if I already unlocked bootloader?
yes, bootloader is locked, and no unlock again..

Hello,
I've just installed the leaked 4.1.2 JB ROM.
The phone boots up but it is asking me for "sim network unlock pin".
I know for a fact that my phone is not locked. I purchased it from a private store and had installed 2.3.5, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 stock ROMs of different carriers.
I even switched between two different carriers without a problem.
Any idea what I can do?
Someone told me it might be the modem file that is "confused"? Has that got anything to do with it?
Thank you for your help!

Try to search the main thread, a few mentioned solution there. Didn't pay attention to the solution so not sure what it was, but I think it was an app from the store.

Thanks for replying. Most apps require root. I'm not a noob but still not an expert. Any ideas on how I get root access?
Or look at the thread about being stuck with sim lock. It is pretty active and here in general.

By the way, If I go back to ICS, installing the original carrier ROM. Will be phone still be locked?

You can get root by flashing Philz kernel for recovery. It can be flashed through stock recovery.
Not sure about rollback to ICS, but my guess it that it'll work since the problem is caused by software

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm sorry. I guess I'm a bit excited.
At first, I was a nervous wreck. I actually thought I'm never going to unlock my phone and that I've screwed things up.
It didn't help when I rolled back to ICS and the "SIM network unlock pin" appeared either.
Eventually, I downloaded an app and paid about 2.5$ to have it unlocked.
Then, I decided to try installing JB one more time and now it works and everything is working smoothly!
Can't thank you enough.
Thank you for your kind help!
