This behavior has been reported on custom ROMs and earlier versions of Stock ROMS. If you are on a clean Stock 3.2.1 ROM you will NOT have these issues.
Hope this helps

I'm on Stock 3.2.1 and I still have this issue. For example: techcrunch will close my browser every time. I've tried it with stock browser as well as Dolphin HD.

Had the tab for a week waiting on the official ics then I will root when root is ready for 4.0 but it still closes no warning or anything

Then get on the 'blower' to ACER tech support because this should not happen. We support hundreds of these, in over 8 country's, and this is NOT normal and should NOT happen.

With a locked bootloader we'll be waiting a long time for root and relying on exploits (security holes) is no way to go through life. For example: nobody that I know of has rooted 3.2.1 on an ACER. TPT (Lenovo) is another example and so is the Xoom FE. We need to get the bootloader unlocked.
"Take your stinking locked bootloader of my tablet you damn dirty ACER company"

Does the downgrade method count as rooting 3.2.1? Because that works likea champ.

And the rooted stock 3.2.1 in development.

I have ICS ota download with rooted phone.

I have the ICS ota download even though I did not sign up for it. I have a rooted xoom with a stock rom and kernel. Can I install the ota update with rooted phone or will I have to go back to stock everything?
I believe the update is xml77.
As long as you are running the stock recovery, you SHOULD be ok. If not stock recovery it probably won't accept the signing keys and will refuse to install.

After looking again it is XML77
I tried to install the update but got stuck on a screen with a green android with a triangle with a "!" in it.
Guess it did not like my rooted xoom.
I guess my options are to go back to stock if I want to update it.
That may be more trouble than it is worth if the ics update will be released by developers soon.
Is there an easy option to go back to stock?

If I remember correctly when I did this I had to use RSD Lite which Motorola provides to flash the stock Image to my Xoom.
Then I had to re-root it.

1.066 OTA update

well i was flat out stunned that i got an update notification on my a500 today..... software 1.066
i cant find any info except for a single thread on the official acer forums in which 2 other people posted today they got this OTA update notice
seeing how the last OTA update borked my (and many others) screen auto-rotate functionality... i am going to hold off on downloading and installing this (i had to send it back to acer Two times to get them to fix this issue - software related.... and seeing how i am out of warranty even if this OTA caused problems ACER will not fix it for you even if it is their software problem like last time was)
i was hoping one of you brave souls had instlaled it and could tell me what it is.... seeing how its only 63mb im not expecting anything major

Honestly, what could Acer possibly have to offer that's better than the custom roms found here? With the latest Cm 10.2, bootloader 8 or 9,and a decent recovery, anything Acer could send OTA would be a downgrade. This thing is more stable than many newer devices with similar software. It's faster and more useful than the ipad I use at work. Who needs Acer?

Would be interesting to see what's in it. Vache put out a pc based update checker. Might be able to snag it to pc then decrypt, unzip, and see what's in it. Could be a prelude to an upcoming version update.
I got the update too and frankly I was very surprised. Of course it didn't install but I saved the file in case somebody is interested in seeing it.
No people know what this update about??
I didn't receive any OTA update notification.

Will look at it when I return from vacation. In the meatime, there's a decrypt tool in Themes and Apps. Pretty simple. Then you can open it in winzipand see wwhat's there.
My guess is a maintenance update. Acer officially stated last year ics is as far as they go with 50x tab.
Thanks for posting.

Last night I went full stock in order to install the OTA just because I was curious like everybody else .... and honestly I didn't see any changes but the built number. The Android is still 4.0.3 with no noticeable changes. Maybe the updates they made were all under the hood.

When I went read the CM10.2 post, I saw some feature work, some not, with the problem of SOD. I'm still on full stock and didn't see this update, but I'm more interested in getting a very stable build instead of getting the latest version. What do you think the benefit is to get the latest CM10.2? Thanks.

Well, first, you're talking about Android 4.3, which Acer has not released for our device. Most benchmarks I've seen show better performance with the cm 10.2 variants than in 10.1, let alone the stock roms. Besides less bloat, more customization, and custom kernels, upgrading to a 4.3 ROM gets you new features not available in previous versions. As for stability, the first alpha builds of 4.3 I tried were already more stable than some 4.2.2 release candidates I tried.
I've used both of the 4.3 ROMs found in the forum here and they are both good.

I went to check the CM 10.2 post, and saw a lot reports on stability. I use my tab to read some websites, and not a lot others, I have a phone and a laptop for all others. All I want the tab is to turn on instantly when I push the power button so I can read when I want to, late in the night on bed, and even that can't be met. It just SODs.

No data and poor signal on ANY ROM except stock.

Hey guys.
Im having a problem connecting to the Verizon mobile network when Im on ANY ROM besides Stock 4.1.2.
Im guessing this is a radio/baseband problem?
Any help on the subject is MUCH appreciated.
I've seen various posts where folks on non-stock ROMs have signal issues. On my previous RAZR and now RAZR M only on stock do I get a solid signal. Non-stock gives me only fair 4G and drops to nothing when venture into 3G. Argggh's kernel based off stock I believe did help some but not give me as good a connection as stock. Suspect Moto propriety source would be needed. So for a solid connection and best battery life I stay on stock.
Maybe try MIUI?

No matter what custom rom you flash you must restore the stock partition first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641
Don't know if it's placebo or not, but I've found the.4.4 bases Roms seem to be a bit better than 4.2 and 4.3 or CM 10.1 or CM 10.2.
As a matter of fact, I just went back to a DST stock ROM to rule that out as a problem. Back on CM11 and there's virtually no difference.

Thanks for the fast response aviwdoowks! I ended up using Matts Util to flash back to stock rom. Then re flashed CWM recovery. 4g is back, wifi works great. All is working perfect !!!!! Backup has been made, so this time I will not get into trouble and can just flash back to stock if anything happens.
When I have some time I will try loading CM10.1 on it again and see If I can get the phone to work with a custom rom and maintain good 4g reception. If not, then I guess there is more to do... Thanks again!

Twrp & cwmr both do not restore all of the partitions.
That is why I made my restore thread.
You can be on a custom ROM & have no data you still have to go back to Rsd to fix!!!!!
But data must be wiped before Rsd.

I doubt it'll brick your device, but it'll almost definitely remove root access, and it's also possible that it'll break whatever methods there are for obtaining root again.

I wonder if I Could just flash the stock recovery, then apply the OTA then flash CWM and SU
its patching the kernel first looking at it,
tried it on mine just and it errors out, doesn't "brick it" oh I hate that expression, and errors before making any other changes.
Guess I'll need to restore a stock kernel/recovery before flashing it

Do you think you can explain how to modify the updater script to be able to flash the new update using cwm.
Do you lose root and cwm if you do it this way?

Is your server having any bandwidth issues? I've had quite a bit of trouble downloading the rom in the past 12 or so hours, with the max speed capping at 15-16kb/s and two dropouts.
That said, It seems to have come good in the last hour though. Thankyou for the effort of putting this up :good:
I updated my TN7 first to 4.4.2 and the previous OTA (2.2 i assume), then used the SuperTool 2.2 from the other thread to unlock and root the tablet with no problems.
Next day this OTA was avaiable and it installed without problems. Root is still active.
I wanted to say i have a EVGA one, but after trying to confirm this, i'm not so sure anymore. Will ask in other thread to find out.
I tried ART with mine and had tons of issues... anything involving the stylus support just went totally wonky. Shame, cuz it certainly zipped along!

[Q] Root Iconia A500

Can someone please help me. I have an Acer iconia a500 that I want to install a custom ROM onto. When I follow the instructions to find the cpuid and sbk. I am told the file doesn't exist. Holding down the power and volume up buttons end in an android graphic with a triangle error. I have tried every tool I could find to help with no result. A lot of the links now link you to malware. I have a galaxy s2 which I have rooted numerous times. My aim is to install omnirom KitKat final version with root access. I have also done a factory reset and I have ICS 4.0.3
I am starting to think that there might be a fault with my tablet.

I have found that omni ROM still supports this device. My main problem seems to be that I can't boot into recovery mode. It just comes up with an error graphic. I am happy with the tablet for what I use it for but am finding more apps are incompatible. Hence why I want to upgrade the ROM.
I too am looking to root an A500 for a friend and I am running into walls.
