Iconia A500 3.2 update - Bee with Exclamation sign above.
Im running the update and when the device reboots and as it progresses a honeycomb bee with a triangular sign with an Exclamation mark in it appears...
The installation does not progress any further and i have no idea what to do. I can reset my system but it says update fails and continues on 3.1.
Any ideas/thought/suggestions?
I have the same problem !

If you care about root and having CWM installed I would not update to stock 3.2 using OTA. Just grab one of the 3.2 updates in the development thread so you can retain root. But if just want plain stock 3.2 and you have CWM installed, you need to revert back to the stock recovery first otherwise it will fail.

Same problem wihout root. Any suggestions what the problem could be?
im thinking if it's because you have a rooted device? I had the same thing. But do not ever update to 3.2 OTA. I would recommend a stock rooted 3.2 in the Development thread. Easy flash. Flying rom.

Although this is an old thread, I think other solutions for those who were not rooted were to make sure you have an sdcard entered... I think....

My Iconia won't let me restore to any ROM
I installed the Samsung Galaxy Tab firmware 3.1 on my Acer A500 but now it's not letting me change my ROM's anymore

Just to be clear. You installed a ROM that was made for the GTab, and not made for the A500, or you installed a custom ROM for the A500 based off of the GTab?
I own an A500 but I installed a custom Rom based off the GTab
I just rec'd the new A500 8Gb version that already has 3.2 installed. So this is not the normal 3.2 OTA, which maybe the same. Don't know how to confirm.
I have read so many posts that appears to be rooting instructions for 3.0 and not for 3.2. I see one Thread that had instructions on how to root a OTA 3.2 but the instructions even says will take 1.5hrs. I have rooted tablets/phones before and i know it doesn't take that long and don't want to lose data.
I don't want to install a custom rom just so i can be rooted. I just want to root this tablet and i don't want to downgrade the bootloader.
Can anyone please point me to the correct thread or simply let me know if rooting is currently out of the question for this scenerio.
im on the same page, just picked up the 3.2 from costco.. A little common sense points me and you in the direction of downgrading to the 3.0.1.. Then bumping up to the rooted 3.2.. its not a one click solution but it makes complete sense..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
im doing it as i write this let you know my success..
Yeah I have read that an option is to downgrade to 3.0, root then go to 3.2. Guess i'm waiting on a short version that will root stock 3.2 and it doesn't make sense to me to go back only to go up versions of rom for this alternative route.
lol its data, not like your trading in your new car for a 87 nova.. Downgrade is for exploit access only as soon as root --> update recovery ---> flash rom you will be right back to 3.2..
:-/
anyways method 2 works.. did it in 15 minutes cause i got distracted..
good luck waiting for ur 1 click
cool, so i guess this is the best solution for now....i'll do the same.

I found out the hard way too, got the OTA update of 3.2 installed, then got the acer recovery installer downloaded. Was a colossal waste of time...
Thought I'd let others know, easier than having to stuff around yourself and hoping you can recover...
Thx for the heads up guys, i did install the acer recovery. Now i know why you need it since that 3.0 downgrade is very unstable. I did manage to root, install CWM and flashed a 3.2 rom.
I used this... straight root no downgrade required.

I just got my eee pad back from rma. It appears to be a different device. Where the serial number should be is covered with a white sticker was a serial number starting with B80. Do you think it would be safe to root with razorclaw or otherwise?
Also would it be possible to install a rom like revolver?
And if i did root and install a rom could a bring it back to normal if I need to rma?
Thanks for the help

RazorClaw has nothing to do with build number.
You have to be on .19 firmware for RC to work.
You could also try NachoRoot which work with all firmware up to .21

Yes i've done quite a bit of research and I noticed I'd need to downgrade to .13 then upgrade to .19 with a 101g firmware which might stop you from getting some market apps. I'm alittle lost of what to do after that. If I used nacho root and wanted to install revolver. I'd think I need to install clockwork then add a rom. Is that correct? Does a guide exist on this?
Thanks

Yes try with NachoRoot first. Once you have achieved root, use RecoveryInstaller
to install CWM recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
After that download and put the revolver ROM file on your external sd card.
Use CWM recovery to flash the ROM.

Thanks for all the help I'm feeling alittle less nervous about doing this. Could I just ask 3 more quick questions. Is overclocking the cpu (i'm not sure how everyone does it) dangerous in a sense that it could damage it? Also when ICS will I be able to update my revolver when it is released by the revolver dev? And finally if I do decide to go through with this can I remove any traces if I need to send it in for a non-rooting related issue?
Thanks

no you should be fine as long as you dont go to high i seen other forum members push there tf101 s to 1.5ghz, and thats about as far as i would go my self.
i don't know about revolver as i have not messed with roms/recovery/kernels yet but i would think that the dev would work on a ics release.
yes you can heres a link to an unrooting guide Easy [UNROOT] it show how to install a stock rom and stock recovery.
I ordered my transformer yesterday, it will arrive in 2 days.
I have a question :
1) If I plan to use a custom rom (prime or revolver), do I need to root it first or just install the rom zip?
1a) stock device comes with recovery console, but clock work mod is a modified version with extra features?
1b) from what I understand, stock console accepts only signed zips, while clockworkmod accepts unsigned zips?
2) If I root the stock original rom, will it continue to receive updates? Will root survive them?
I want to have a working tablet ready for ics, with root as a must, I need to backup and restore my apps and exchange them with my Android-ed HTC HD2.

1a: yes
1b:i don't know if the stock only accepts signed zips but clockwork will accept un signed.
1: i'm pretty sure its stock rom->rooted stock rom->clockwork recovery->custom rom
2: a rooted stock rom will continue getting updates but it might break root, i was told to install OTA root keeper to back up and protect my root.
I don't have enough posts to add to the thread in the Dev forums, so I will ask here.
My Iconia A500 is not rooted, I don't feel that I needed it to be rooted most of the time. Now that is out of the way, I have questions.
Is there a version of this Dev leak that I can flash if I don't care about rooting or recovery? I believe the version he leaked is a CWM or RA recovery flashable only, so I would need the original untouched release.
If I do flash this, I should be able to flash future versions correct, or possibly the final version of the ICS release?
Essentially I would like to use this release on my tablet without caring about root or recovery, but I also don't want to screw myself for future releases.
Is it possible to reflash back to an old Honeycomb release?
You might not be able to post in the dev thread, but you can read it. All your answers are in there, most are even in the OP!

If you don't care about root or recovery, than it is best you stay stock, and wait for OTA updates. This will keep you relatively safe.
Take a deep Breath this could turn out to have issues and not be complete.. There is only reports that it is flash-able.This does not guarantee that is will Run properly. As its a Acer development rom leaked to the public..
I will try it after there are 2 or 3 more days of comments. If it seems to be working well.I must have Root. Hope the post above mine has helped.
JUST Think if it does not pan out you can be one that said IM SMART I WAITED..
GOOD LUCK . DONT CROSS THE STREET WITHOUT LOOKING BOTH WAYS.
This rom is very easy to be flashed on the a500, dear erica_renee. I've done it tonight and I did come, like you, from the latest version of the unrooted Acer stock ROM.
In order to do this, you must:
- flash from your PC, a rooted rom version 3.2 on your tablet with the little app "DotNetDetecter". You can download it from somewhere on XDA Iconia A500's developers threads but I don't remember in which thread I found it.
- install the app "Acer Recovery" (free on the market)
- download the zip of RA recovery (You'll find the link in the Vache's thread) and install this recovery from your CMW recovery you've installed with the rooted rom 3.2 in the first step
- download and install from the RA recovery the ROM ICS that you can download on the website of Vache... Choose the "RA recovery" version of this ROM.
Very pleasant version, this ICS ROM ... but the low volume defect when I record sounds is still present...
Again and again I'm more and more convinced that this problem comes from the LOW QUALITY of these microphones !!!

are you saying that you flashed the cwm version of this on a a500.or do you have a501 Or are you using the non rooted full rom version.. And yes the mic issue i agree with . Considering going to Black box and buying upgraded mics and install . but i dont use it that much.

But, if you're not in a hurry, you can wait one more month, of course.

Can you tether to a android ad-hoc network
does Ti Backup work.
Does email exchange work.
I could go on but i will not .. THANKS IN Advance
No root on ICS (yet?).
I guess that you will loose it as well when you will install this Rom as an update by OTA...
I don't really need a root on my tablet, personaly, except when I want to test a custom Rom.
There is maybe a solution to keep the root anyway. Check in the thread of Vache.
Apart from that, everything works better than ever for me (gps, tether through my htc Desire, caméra, etc ... except the recurrent prob with the microphones ).
I don't use Titanium backup (that needs root, isn't it?) but MyBackup pro.
Email exchange? Do you mean the app working with Outlook on Windows? I don't use it neither. I use gmail and I import my other accounts on gmail. Sorry. But my email accounts (pop) work perfectly well.
Everything works very well actually with this Rom. I didn't notice any problem till now. No way to go back to HC...
I wonder if Thor has this yet. He is probably the best a500 ICS dev right now.

Just to let you know. I have flashed with the full 4.0.3 (not CWM/rooted one), and then used the first method here to restore back to 3.0.1, then installed CWM to install a ROM without any problems. I have since updated to 4.0.3 full again as it's by far the best ROM for me.
Ny the way, I noticed this morning that the ability to disable bloatware has been added to the stock ics rom via app section of settings, so one less reason for me to need root.

i hope you can get in contact with entropy,, samsung will likely replace your unit with a brand new one.. we all love brand new things, don't we?
Unbelievable.... I never thought stock ICS 4.0.4 can brick our phone....
By the way to the OP... where you also using the stock kernel when you wiped partition /cache? or where you using a custom kernel?
*now this me think on the credibility of all stock ICS (including the latest 4.0.4) ones already... If the OP got hit by this hard brick bug (on stock 4.0.4 ICS, assuming he was using also the stock kernel that comes with it), how many more do you think will follow the OP's plight of hard bricking their phones...?
...and come to think 4.0.4 ICS is beginning to be released already in every region of the world..... this is quite an alarming news.....
What do you guys mean with stock recovery? You mean the one that you use to flash cwm to flash a rom in order to not overwrite some binary so you're phone doesn't lose warranty?
stock recovery is the recovery you have when you buy the phone or just after you flash a stock rom.
If it's a full stock and the wipe was done during automatic upgrade then samsung has to release a solution. But will they?? Entropy has been battling so much and still are people that rush in and say: "replace as fast as you can with a ss"...... unbelieveble.
I think there are more that had the same problem but or aren't users of the WWW or just didn't realise that it was the bug. I'm sure that there are a number of devices that were already repaired by some ss WITHOUT knowledge, just a swap of the mb, new flash and new phone !! That makes the customer happy but doesn't solve the problem.
Ok, it must be hard to be without a phone (i know) but if you are willing to sacrifice some time to solve a WORLDWIDE problem i'm pretty sure that you'll be considered a hero.....
As i read here Entropy did already knows of this so just hang in there....
Wish a swift and good solution not just for you but for all....

Recovery is the system you get by pressing "vol up", power and menu at the same time at startup
Stock is the one that you get out of the box, looks like this:

CWM is installed with custom roms and CFRoot, looks kis this:

You know which one you used ?
We just have to wait for the OP to report back, if it is not a false alarm. I mean, he has only 3 posts, could be anything. I hope he was on stock, but it smells like a noob not following the instructions. Forgive me if I'm wrong. In any case:
DO NOT SEND THE DEVICE to the service centre before contacting Entropy!
