I noticed my HD2 battery life was very bad recently, so after looking around I decided to install JuiceDefender, SetCPU and CurrentWidget. I followed the reccomended settings for all of them, and later on I read that using those settings, I should be getting 5mA on standby and anymore then 10mA is worrying. So I checked and I was shocked to find my battery at 35mA. Yes, I recently flashed a rom (Stock MIUI) and right now I am already planning to do the following:
1. Changing radio (current radio is 2.10.50.26 on TMOUS)
2. I want to stick with MIUI so yeah, maybe reinstall it.
3. I need to backup all my apps and games, however my SD card is only 2gb so is there a reliable backup utility that can save to computer?
4. Calibrate my battery
more info:
I only play a bit of music (max 30.min a day), I play a bit of games and use apps for maybe an hour a day, sometimes I'm not doing anything for 2 hours and it drops by around 20% which is pretty bad...
please do tell if you think there's a fix, or anything else I should do?

What's the drain in airplane mode? If it lowers to a normalish value (I'd say 6mA at the very most) it will be a problem with one of the connections. Make sure wifi, bluetooth, GPS etc are turned off when not in use then try again
It.. was in Airplane mode -___-;;
Damn, that's bad. Was it working well earlier? Did you do something which could affect battery life (perhaps flashing a new kernel)? When I flashed Dorimanx's kernel to Typhoon, I began to get weird battery drains and some FCs so if you changed kernel try changing to the standard (and still brilliant) Tytung r_14 kernel.
Try system tuner pro, it has an logger/analyzer feature. Run it for a day or so.
Then check the logs and see what causes the drain.
@Nigeldg
Did you change the cpu clock settings after you flashed it? If you, flash another kernel, the settings probably won't be preserved.
I have mine running with Dorimanx's rom on max 1,6 ghz and min 128 mhz with the ondemand govenor.
it lasts about a day and a half
Yeah it is Tytungs kernel.. I just flashed it like 4 days ago and since then it's been bad...
Did you wipe dalvik cache and cahe when you installed the kernel?
No I don't think so.. never heard of it

hmmm i don't get it:
after doing a successful flash according to virnik0's procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556 everything was fine - for a couple of weeks or so..
battery would last for days and days just in standby - then suddenly it started to run down pretty quick - now it lasts not even 24 hours - and that is even without any usage at all - just lying there on my desk - idle..
i have absolutely nothing running - no wireless - no programs running - only the mobile network connection - all other programs stopped..
i even bought a new battery - but same problem - less than 24 hour standby on idle.. not even making 1 telephone call..
i also tried resetting the battery..
would it help to do a complete re-flash?
My first guess would be, that you installed / updated an app which goes crazy now.
You can rule out every app that is preinstalled, from google or commonly used (such as titanium backup) .
You can try to uninstall these apps one by one and see if the drain persists.
If so I'd flash a full ROM without installing additional apps. After that you'll have to wait 2-3charges until the battery indicator is accurate again. If the drain is still there it could be a hardware problem.
I think reflashing will fix the issue but don't hold me to it
good luck

I am having the same issue. My battery after flashing 2.3.3 JVK was fabulous. now it is not even lasting for a complete day with no wifi and 3g.
I guess i did wipe the battery stats , after which i am getting these crazy values. I am going to wipe the battery stats after my phone is fully charged and see if anything happens.
i guess there is a guide somewhere in these forums that we have to complete recharge, do a wipe and completely discharge and do a wipe again. please have a look at Battery issue threads in XDA.
Hey, check this thread, there are some interesting observations.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021711
I don't really believe in wiping the battery stats. They have to be rewritten and that also takes time and gives confusing values in the mean time. Just using the phone normally and always discharging as low as possible while always charging full is my approach.
With JVK it's another story, I think no one knows exactly what causes the drain. it could be the update but I also suspect the gallery, I overwrote the gallery3D.apk with a 2.2.1 version and the drain seemed to disappear. But that's not even a observation, more a feeling since I flashed an restarted several times in the past days since I flashed JVK so I'm more or less just trying a lot at the same time and hope something works
Thank you theduckking - yep did that too - uninstalled all apps not needed but still draining too much - so I am inclined to re-flash..
So you say I can try just reflash ROM - is that also via ODIN? and how do I know which ROM to flash and what it is called?
lycan_codex - yep I did do a battery re-set also in recovery mode - following the procedure from another post - didn't help either
I recommend Odin.
It doesn't really matter which ROM, you could take darky's resurrection edition to have a minimal odin rom.
but flashing a romkitchen (wipe) rom through CWM should also do the job
or you head over to [Ramad]'s thread choose a stock odin firmware (some scrolling required) and flash that.
If you find, that the drain is fixed after installing a minimal rom, you can flash a bigger/fuller ROM over it through CWM and customize it and live happily ever after.
so ij am wondering about battery life it really sucks balls i can't get this phone to last over 4 hours on a full charge i have a advanced taskiller juice defender is there something i can do to resolve this or will the battery ext really help this out tremendously another question swype i can't get it to work on my evo anyone have a idea why i don't really see the imput method to enter swype either.
Get rid of ATK and Juice Defender. They do more bad than good.
Is your phone rooted? and have you "conditioned" you battery yet? What do you do with your phone? These things could help us help you.
I am rooted with MikG ROM and I conditioned my battery. I get at least 15 hours out of mine and that is with streaming Pandora for at least 6 of those hours.
As for your Swype issue, make sure it is installed. It comes standard with Sense and any of the Evo updates.
EDIT: I was looking for the post I followed to condition my battery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
This helped my battery life a great deal.
Four hours?! You've gotta have all your radios on and be doing a lot of something for it to go down that fast. Root that action, get a good kernel and do some CPU scaling and maybe some undervolting.
I agree with CDKJudoka, get rid of task killer. Although, Juice Defender doesn't seem to be a battery drain. If you're not using Bluetooth turn off, big drain. Also you must check any email accounts you may have set up. Goto settings and check how frequent they are sync'ing. Same goes for FaceBook and other similar apps. 4G is a battery drain, especially if signal is weak or toggling between 3G. If you're not rooted, you may want to consider it. After rooting mine, battery life has drastically improved (depending on ROM). I'm also running MikG ROM, which works great for me. I used to have the Seidio 3500 battery to last the day. Now the stock one does the same.
As far as Swype, goto menu/settings/language & keyboard, select Swype and tap Swype settings, then choose tutorial. At this point it should let you choose input method. Hope this helps.
Well here's how good the Evo 4G battery life can be:
I recently upgraded to the Evo 3D and left my Evo 4G laying on my bedside table using it to check email and as a backup alarm clock. GRANTED it doesn't have service and everything is underclocked and my battery is an extended battery.. BUT I picked it up about an hour ago. 7 days 13 hours on battery with no charging... and still 8 percent left on my battery which will probably make it until mid-day tomorrow. Under normal use I was getting 3-4 days on a charge.
CM7 and Tiamat kernel.
If you arent rooted here is what you can do:
1) turn off wifi, data, gps, bluetooth when not in use. (I also turn off the wireless networks location service)
2) turn off haptic feedback and vibrations on keyboard.
3) turn off automatic syncing
--Increase the time email, facebook, gmail, twitter, etc. refreshes data. Instead of every 30minutes, make it 2hrs. I turn auto refresh off because I update every time I go into the app anyways.
4) If youre running gingerbread- turn off google backup (under backup data)
5) turn off any animations in the system.
Now if your evo is rooted here is what you can do:
1) download setcpu and underclock the cpu and set up profiles for when the screen turns off that the cpu downclocks low.
2) user vipermod's undervolting script to make the cpu run at lower voltages.
3) use CM7 or MIUI for your custom ROM. (Someone please suggest a sense/gingerbread rom that has good battery life)- A good kernal with one of these is Thiamat or Saveged-zen

Not a problem dude. I don't have my phone underclocked at all and I am using the newest stock ROM. Over the past three days I have charged my phone overnight once, and I am still going strong. You will notice the battery drop very quickly after removing it from the charger. Mine drops from 100% to 89% in about 30 mins, but it holds at 89% for a good 2 hours before it drops again. That is while streaming Pandora and downloading a 260mb ROM over WiFi.
I will just let you know now that if you bring a rooted phone into Sprint for service because of battery issues, they may try to blame the root and the custom ROM for it. Try to do the steps that are outlined by the other posters and the HTC double battery thread. It may just save you a trip to the Repair Centre.
I took my phone into a sprint store for them to check the battery. They ran a test on a machine. The guy said it passed but said "I noticed youre running a custom ROM, so it may be that."
But I've realized I get bad signal where I work during the day and somtimes roam while in the building. On weekends im able to go easily 10hrs and only be at 75% (stock battery).
You may also want to check to see if you have any rogue apps running in the background that eat up cpu usage or data
Hi anyone recommend a kernel for battery, over the last couple of days my battery lasts 8 hours, which is not the best.
Im on arhd. Which the roms great but the actual kernel not the best at the mo
u can try lordmod's sense kernel v3.0,
but believe me its better to use this uv script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305228
Well, there are several things that impact battery life:
ROM (ARHD is a good one)
Radio (you should flash th eone recommended by Mike1986
Kernel (standard kernel in ARHD should be good)
Apps and settings (badly written apps, using Latitude etc, overclock too high, clock settings for sleep too high?)
Partial Wakelocks if consumption is during inactivity (download the app, and read as much of the thread as you possibly can: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809)
Screen Brightness if consumption is heavy when you use th ephone (get Lux from the Market, you can build your own screen brightness curve, possibly Juice Defender does this too)
Also look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080&highlight=wipe+battery+stats
Battery Monitor Widget will also allow you to check consumption, key for seeing when drain takes place.
In short, I'm saying it's not necessarily a kernel problem . I'd suggest you do a Superwipe, reflash the ROM and suggested radio, let it settle down for a couple of days, install JUST the monitoring apps, that way you will see if it's down to the ROM itself - and then add your own apps/settings back gradually. In about a week, you should really have isolated the problem.
Hi everyone,
I have used an older version of Hyperdroid over the past few month, which worked very well for me overall. Usually the battery managed to last a couple of days.
However, after I tried some different Android NAND Roms on my HD2 yesterday, I reinstalled the latest version of Hyperdroid (HyperDroid-CM7-Observant-Opossum v5.9.0) and noticed a dramatic increase in battery usage.
It drains about 10% in less than an hour without using it.
- WLAN off
- mobile data off
- Blutooth and GPS off
Androids battery use overview lists:
Display 35%
Cell-Standby - 33%
Idle 29%
Wi-Fi - 4%
There are barely any additional apps installed.

Install currentwidget and place a widget on your homescreen. Tell us the battery drain when the screen is off by setting the refresh interval to around 20, leaving the phone to settle in standby for a minute or so and unlocking it and giving the drain immediately displayed (don't wait for it to refresh again) and it should be around 4ma with everything but the phone function itself turned off. Try it in airplane mode as well, here it should be around 2ma. If you mean high drain with the screen on then you're just going to have to live with it unfortunately.

Yes i would definately check sleep drains. But if its when your phone is on, it may also be an update in the CPU governor settings. I would switch to conservative. Especially if you dont game a lot. You can also try changing your CPU voltage levels.
What's your kernel and governor? Any OC? Maybe the kernel isn't allowing deep sleep.

did you do a clean install?did you wipe your battery stats?
if you post some more info about your device then we can help you even more.
i would try changing the governor and then battery calibration (you can find it on the market). i had this rom and if i remember correctly there were some issues with my battery too. i then got the 5.10.0 version and everything became normal again.
or you can upgrade to the latest version 6.0.0. i just installed it runs smooth as hell!!!
good luck!
Even I'm using the same rom and the battery drains heavily only when using applications and playing games. But can anyone help me how to upgrade it to version 6.0 with detailed instructions.

[Q] Battery life terrible, despite trying all the supposed "fixes", hardware problem?
I got my N4 a bit less than a month ago by this point. I've rooted and tried most ROMS from stock to CM10.1 to PA, etc. However, my battery life is consistently not so good. Coming from a One XL on CM10, I was used to bad battery life, but I expected the N4 to be better.
I don't have any screenshots, but here are my averages:
Time on Battery: 10-14 hours
Screen on: ~1.5 hours (usually, never have gotten over 2.5)
Android OS kept awake: ~1-1.5 hours
I know I'm among the group of people with the problem of Android OS keeping the phone awake, and I see all of these kernels attempting to fix the msm_hsic_wakelock issue, but I'm still having that as well.
I'm always on auto-brightness, Google sync on (calendar, chrome, gmail), Google Now enabled, etc. I'm also always on data, usually 2 bars + (the signal never gets worse than yellow on the battery graph.
Lastly, on wifi, all of these issues are gone. My idle battery drain is also phenomanol on wifi compared to data or even no wifi + no data. In about 8 hours I drained ~8% even with the data off.
Any ideas? I'm getting really frustrated. I see people claiming 2+ hours screen time or 20+ hours on battery on stock phones! I'm nowhere near the average battery times.

Android OS is not keeping your phone awake. It's one of those crappy apps you have installed that are causing a wakelock causing the phone not to deep sleep.
Download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Use it to debug partial and kernel wakelocks (primarily partial wakelocks). Check CPU states using that app or download CPU Spy from play store.
It needs to be deep sleeping.
Google Now: Disable cards that you dont use.
Turn off auto brightness and adjust it to your liking (CM10.1 has a feature if you long press on status bar it will adjust its brightness so you can do it like that).
Use Franco Kernel r23 (it's the most stable one, if you want to experiment you can try r26).
Google Maps: turn off Google Maps Latitude and its automatic reporting of your location and uncheck auto reporting in your location.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS5iaWdleWVzMHgwLnRyaWNrc3Rlcm1vZCJd use that app with Franco Kernel (or buy his app) to adjust its kernel settings.
http://zephik.com/upload/Screenshot_2012-12-14-19-05-58.png is a screenshot from last month. Pretty good battery overall for me.
Press the thanks if I helped. Will reply back if you have any questions or follow ups.
I've been on CM10.1 nightly 1231 for 3 days now and I can happily say that my battery is much better than before.
I've averaging 24-28 hours with 3 hours screen on with data only and usually charging at around 10%.
Always Enabled:
All Location Services
Google Sync
Always Disabled (except when needed):
Google Maps/Latitude location settings
Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS
Google Now cards that I don't normally use
Some things I've noticed:
- When I flash a new ROM and restore my TiBu (flashable zip or regular restore) I find that my battery life is average at best.
- When I flash a new ROM and fresh install my apps from the Play Store my battery life is good to great.
- Third party kernels can sometimes be wonky on this phone. I haven't tried Faux or Franco kernel since flashing 1231 because I've been getting great performance on CM kernel.
- When my kernel CPU is set to "ondemand" the performance is average at best. Changing it to "interactive" has helped improve my battery life... with no other kernel tweaks involved.
Apps like Facebook and Facebook Messenger seem to cause issues with my battery life also. When I was on CM10.1 nightly 1223 I had Facebook Messenger installed and my averages were 12-14 hours off battery. So by eliminating a few apps on fresh ROM installs I've been able to see the different effects they've had on my battery life. Basically any app that uses GPS can potentially be a battery hog even when the phone is not in use.
So from my points above are also some of my takeaways. Try a fresh install and watch what apps you install. Try a few different kernel governors (esp if you're on a custom ROM). You can improve performance by trial and error!
Good luck.
EDIT: zephiK's points above are also valid and I can confirm they've helped my battery life also.

I agree 100% with Facebook. The facebook app sucks your battery life HARD, especially if you plan to have it refreshing intervals. The app continues to request GPS location, so therefore because of that I disable the GPS on my phone completely (its that bug where if u have GPS globally on your phone you see it on the top left of your screen, and it doesnt go away). I leave FB all notifications off and manually sync it by pulling up on news feed. It's either that or check FB via mobile webpage.
Another thing I forgot is your refresh intervals. Make sure your apps don't have it on like syncing every 5/10/15/30/45/60 minutes. Set it to a couple hours more. using a twitter app? instead of having it sync in the background, just manually do it so you get all the missing tweets all at once. No reason to have it sync in the background randomly.
+1 on interactive. on Franco kernel it uses Interactive as it's default governor and it includes a lot of the latest interactive patches that really help out. It also includes qualcomm fixes with msic (not 100% but its better than stock), and newer drivers that will most likely be included in the next OTA.
Thank you for the replies everyone. In regards to all of the fixes you've suggested, I've tried all of them in the past week or two based on hours and hours of reading. This problem even exists on a freshly installed ROM with the bare minimum apps.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if there may be a problem with the radio in my phone. I live on a farm with an AT&T tower, yet I'm only getting "ok" signal, when I should be getting perfect signal. Called Google and just ordered my RMA, seeing as this battery problem has persisted from the day I first loaded up stock 4.2.1 on the phone upon receiving it.
If you constantly have a low signal, that will drain your battery a lot, because it has to boost the signal and that needs a lot more power.

This would have been useful in your original post. Obviously "worse" signal is going to cause more drain on your battery. Hopefully it's just a flaky radio for you but if the replacement has the same issues then it's something else and you should keep at it until you figure it out! That's half the fun with these phones.
My only concern was that he said android os was up there, so that means he has a app preventing his phone from sleeping.
personally i wouldnt take a RMA on poor battery life but as a result due to signal.... but yeah signal does play a huge factor in your battery life
