[Q] Buying Kindle for out-of-state uses - Kindle Fire General

I'll be moving back to an Asian country and I'm afraid I won't be able to carry load of heavy textbooks used for college.
Not all books I have are on Amazon.com, but most of them do and I think I can carry some of them anyway.
But I realize Kindle is only for U.S.
Would I be still able to access and buy contents outside of U.S.?
I plan to buy more books in the future during my stay at foreign country as I continue my study in masters and Ph.D.
And I guess Kindle Fire doesn't have 3G version.. but if 3G version comes out, the free 3G service only applies to U.S.. correct?
Lastly, for those of you that have moved on from hard cover textbook to eBooks.. how did it help you?
Are you able to focus and stay away from the temptations of going on the net, etc?

I've heard nothing of a 3G version. Would be surprised if there was one.
To answer your question: you can buy books, etc. Everything works except streaming movies, but you can bypass that as well.

T8282 Bad idea in the US?

I recently bought a used HD Touch T8282 for around $150.
However the more I read and hear about the T8282 Model, The more it sounds like it wasnt the best idea, Especially since I'm in the US.
How far can get making this phone fully functional with US services?
Or should I just forget about it and put it up for sale, Then buy another phone?
Thoughts?
Alright,
After diving into and reading a 37 page thread~My questions are pretty much answered and I have a headache.
Looks like I made a bad investment...
I'll try and recover money by selling it, Then look into purchasing an 8285 or Droid Phone.
Depends on what you are after. Many (Many!) people want the Smart Phone WITHOUT the Data Plan - if that is your goal, you are right on. You do not have to load any "special" programs to hide your Data Access from AT&T. That is my situation, I want all the features of the Touch HD but the Data Plan is just too expensive. I have Wi-Fi in most of the areas I transit so I do have the Net available for the most part. However, if you want access to the WEB from where ever you have a Cell Signal you did, as you say, made a bad investment.

Functionality outside U.S.

Does anyone here have any ideas how it will work for users outside U.S.?
I wonder if it will work at all or if they have a country check in it.
I live in Sweden and thinking of buying one via Borderlinx.com
Considering the Licensing issues I don't know how well it will work with a Swedish IP... you'll probably get that this cannot be viewed in your region on a lot of the movies... But once rooted and such all the other features like e-reading and music playing and browsing would work I assume.... Though since its not out I can only talk in hypotheticals

Buying a nexus 4 when its not supported in my country?

So what are the downsides of buying a nexus 4 when its not supported in my country? Will there be problems about updating OS or about the guarantee? (I think it should be okay with the guarantee since there are LG places anywhere?) Or am i just not gonna be able to use some of googles apps like google's music stream?
What country are you from? Is it a matter of the phone not working with the cell phone providers in your country?
But, seriously talking, the best solution is to emigrate out of there, to a country that Google endorses. Google's going to end up being a global Superpower anyway, so it's good to be under a country that Google is chill with, getting that nationwide Wi-Fi and access to Google water all that fun stuff.
By unsupported do you just mean Google didn't put it up for sale? Or does the Nexus 4 not work with your mobile carrier i.e. is it a CDMA carrier?
If it's the first case then you're fine. Updates should come just like normal as the builds/updates are run by Google. You might not get all the features that come with Android/Google Play; it depends on whether they're enabled in your country (e.g. Music, Movies, Magazines, Books etc.). Warranty on the other hand might be a PITA depending on LG's warranty policy. They may or may not honour the warranty and I believe they don't have international warranty. Even if they have LG offices in your county, it doesn't mean that the warranty is applicable. You might have to send it back to the country you bought it from or if you're going through a grey importer, you'll have to ask them.
If it's the second case, you really shouldn't buy the Nexus 4 unless you want a really expensive paperweight or intend to change carriers.

[OFFICIAL] Fire TV *UK Thread*

Got a prime membership trial so decided to take up Amazon's offer for the Fire TV @ £49.00 so now just need to wait for it to arrive which is a while to go.
Has anyone else pulled the trigger and brought one of these from the UK store yet?
At £49 it was rude not to Can't wait to get it plumbed in, currently using a WDTV or PS3 for my netflixing and Amazon prime.
Hopefully it will work with usa content with unotelly and or a usa Amazon account will be a bit disappointed if it's uk content or nothing
Ordered -D,
Will try Root, and then either unotelly/VPN to usa to get us content (private owned vpn FAST )
There's some talk of a new currently unrootable firmware version 51.1.2.0
I wonder if the UK ones have this version already installed....
I will post this in here as-well
I decided to send them an email regarding the "region change" of the existing USA Fire TV's,
I asked for my message to be forwarded onto the relevant team involved with the Fire TV for a more appropriate response,
Take of this what you will but they have told me that it will be possible, First you will need to migrate your account, Any purchases made will also transfer, Then once the device has launched in your country, in this case the UK you then need to look out for a firmware update.
They say they will put it up on their help pages.
So that's good news, Sad that it will be a firmware update but not unexpected, Guess I will wait till the time comes and consider my options. At this stage I could not give up my root

So it looks like then if we have a USA or UK amazon account then it will follow that which is cool as I have 2 accounts on amazon for each country in question.
Saw spotify on the UK amazon page but not on the USA one though??
I have bought one and i have one from US and i am using unblock us snd i have netflix.hulu.nbc sports extra.fox soccer.bein sports. Premier league pass and xbmc all working perfectly. The only reason you would change to UK one is to chsnge the time settings .

You have 2 options, you can purchase Plex with your UK Amazon account (I used the voice search to find it) or if you want the latest version of Plex you can download it and side load it onto the Fire TV. The benefit of purchasing the app through Amazon is that you can then access Plex from the top Amazon menu's - if it is side loaded you have go delving into a few sub menus to get to it.
I first side loaded the app, but have since purchased the app.

Thats a shame. Oh well.
Im definitely looking at one for me old man though, just for XBMC.
Hoping they get iPlayer integrated for it by release, and of course a rootable FW then Ill jump aboard as well. Cracking piece of kit the more I look at it.
I bought one of these to use xbmc on but now that i see spmc is on the amazon app store i will try that first. From what i've read it is an xbmc fork so addons will work and it can be updated through the amazon store.

Will I be able to buy a SIM card and use my 935FD in Japan?

I was just wondering If anyone from USA has any knowledge about using this phone in Japan. Basically I was just wondering if this was possible, Im getting a lot of conflicting info, and at this point it seems that most people who travel to Japan get pocket wifi. Which is cool, but I would like to be able to use the phone if I had to for text/call.
Thanks!
Hello there, I'm not from the states but I have been in the US and Japan with my phone and had no issue. Other than that you will find yourself struggling with the sim card if you want it for calling. As for the data you can go to BIC camera shops - they are everywhere - and ask for data sim card. They will want your ID/PP. Its ridiculously expensive(dont go over 3000Y on 30days/2gb deal) for what it is, but...it is what it is. You will have coverage everywhere. Japan also offer lots of free WIFI through this app: Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi.
I know its off topic and I hope this will help you... but if you go to Japan to travel a lot by JR (Shinkanzen) and unless you are ridiculously rich buy yourself Japan Rail Pass - You must buy it BEFORE YOU ENTER Japan(buy online or from travel agent - it is physical coupon you have to have- printing it out at the airport r just before you leave isn't an option). When i was there 2 months ago it wasn't possible to buy it in Japan. I heard that since march it is possible but you wont be able to save as much. It will save you loads of cash and I mean loads. Price is 46,700Y/14days standard (you dont need the first class). I have saved 85,000Y but I was travelling a lot. If you stay just in one place its no point.
