How to get a custom launcher without rooting - Kindle Fire General

If you are afraid of rooting but don't like the Kindle launcher there is a simple thing you can do to get a custom launcher without rooting and voiding your warranty
1. Download Applanet from http://www.applanet.net/ to your Kindle. That app lets you install 4rd party applications without rooting, and you can use it to install other apps you can't get on the Amazon Appstore
(Make sure the option to allow the installation of unknown applications from the settings)
2. Open Applanet and search for ADW Launcher EX (Normal ADW launcher doesn't work). Download, install and click "Done"
3. Click the Home button and you will be asked which launcher you want to use, click ADW and BOOM, you're good to go!
Now there are a few things.. Because of the screen size, icons are small and widgets are smaller, so its good to resize the widgets to fit the screen, but at least you have the launcher, a real app drawer, widgets, etc. Happy Using!

Backup/Restore ADW Issues/Confusion

Background:
Ok so...all because I wanted stupid Honeycomb theme (worth it BTW...well more-less worth it)
I backed up my homescreens (only the data, because im dumb and didn't do data+apk)
I used ADW Launcher EX as my launcher....so it backed up that data
The launcher built into Typhoons rom just so happened to be EX Launcher...(NO EX)
Main
I restored my data without having EX installed....:-( now im having issues
Firstly for some reason I didn't have market so I downloaded market, and downloaded the new market and reinstalled ADW Launcher EX
Now when I press home screen it asks which to do the task, either Launcher or Launcher EX
Launcher: Has none of my homescreens right (of course because backup is for EX)
Launcher EX: Has
Now I could just use EX which has my homescreens pretty much right and just reinstall my APKs and it would replace the default icons
Now if I use (and restart)
Launcher: It has no dock icons, (so..pretty less-than functional)
Launcher EX: Has dock icons and such...just some "problem loading widget" but thats solved by reinstalling apps from marketplace)
Now I would love to just use Launcher EX, but 2 issues....Whenever I restart the analog clock thats installed with the rom shows "problem loading widget" each time
I have to long press delete and re-place it
Also do you think the other ADW Launcher is effecting the EX version?
Did I mess something up by restoring backup, which had ADW Launcher EX
Is there a way I can uninstall ADW Launcher manually..and reinstall ADW Launcher EX and it be the sole, and maybe it will do right?
I hope I explained....well I think I may have confusingly over explained?
What should be my next action?
Reinstall the rom and start from scratch?....then what steps do I take this time to not get to this same point? (apparently something had to be wrong, because market was not installed for some reason)
figure it out....think thats my best advice ATM

[Q] iphone like Launcher for Color Nook

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.
I am looking for a launcher that just displays a list of all the applications installed on the NC. I have tried all the usual suspects (LauncherPro, ADW, Zeam, Go Launcher etc) but they all go the desktop first and then you need to open the app drawer to access the shortcuts. I could add shortcuts to the desktop but it does not seem to be a good use of time when the shortcuts to all apps are already there.
It would be nice if the launcher had a dock of favorite apps but not necessary. It would be even nicer if press the Home (N) button in the launcher displayed a list of running programs.
In summary, the launcher should work like the Home screen on iOS.
Any suggestions? Be nice now ;-)
Thanks
Have you tried the MIUI roms yet? They are basically designed to look like the iPhone design. If your just wanting a different home replacement then I always liked the Zeam Launcher because you could add like 4-5 shortcuts to the dock bar...hopefully this helps..

Thanks for the suggestion
I don't really want to try a non-standard ROM at the moment. I did try some of the MIUI themes for ADW and other launchers but all the themes really do is change the icons. That is, the functionality of the launcher does not change. The default screen for the launcher is the desktop and you have to add shortcuts to the desktop.
I might try loading a MIUI ROM on a bootable SD card and see how that works.
Thanks again

I haven't tried it...possibly get a key remapper. I think one of the launchers has one for the home key...see if this will work...

Remove Desktop ADW LAUNCHER CM7

Is this even possible?
I have read a wiki from adw but there is no such info there
the stuff that I want to do is that I dont want to have any desktop, when I press back I want to see the app launcher with all of its apps and when I unlock the phone I dont want to see the wallpaper/desktop I just want to have the app list
I know there are orhter launchers that can do so, but Is this possible with adw launcher?
ty
It isn't possible with ADW or ADW EX
You can install a launcher that offers this feature and delete ADW with an app like titanium
But i guess Miui would be better for you

apps menu

Is their anyway to change from having apps on main screen and having to slid across to browse apps installed. Is their a way to make a apps button and then go into this and browse though apps and have shortcuts to them on home screen instead of just having to slid and swipe though screens?

Install other launchers that support app drawer. To name few Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher, etc..

As amageek pointed out, you have to install a 3rd party launcher software to get the desired layout, you mentioned.
By personal experience, I recommend Nova. I bought the Prime version(there is a free version as well), wich removes all sorts of ADs, give some extra functionality, and makes the phone a bit more like an AOSP ROM, at least launcher-wise.
An other solution is to make folders in the Huawei Launcher, which almost works as the app drawer in any launcher. The back-side of this is, that you have to make it manually to fit your needs.

Remove the google search bar without root nor custom launcher

Hello.
Is there any way i can remove the google search bar from the home screen of the yotaphone 2 without root and with stock launcher ? (any to "simply" uninstall it)
Thanks
I'd like also and don't want to root. I used Novalaucher to remove google search, but there were problems. Many things had disappeared! So, I came back to Google launcher
I'd also like to know if this is possible. I'd rather not have it on my home screen.
I also hate it. Maybe installing some other different launcher?
There's an option in nova launcher for this but I haven't tried it on the yota. It works on every other device I've tried though.

I've installed Nova launcher, removed the google bar and changed the menu color to AMOLED-friendly black. No issues by now

Things did not disappeared, when you change launcher, and Nova Launcher is a Launcher, all the widgets and so on are removed from the screens, you have to activate your widgets on the new launcher, you apps and widgets are still there, you just have to configure them on the new Launcher.
Nova Launcher is actually one of the best launchers, you can actually make a backup of your widgets and icons arrangements with it, Arrow launcher is also very interesting.
Keep in mind, when you change launcher you widgets locations icons, etc are reseted, so if you want to try a new launcher, you have to backup the launcher settings, Nova Launcher and Arrow Launcher has a backup function built in, Google Now launcher does not, you can use Titanium BackUp Manager to make a backup of any app and it's settings, including Google Now Launcher, but for that you would need Root.
