It depends of what you want, speed, stability, latest, etc, and what your phone can handle mine can't handle overclock for example.
IMHO Eclair TeamWhisky Fusion Rom, Froyo Axura 2.0.4 Master.
I hope this help you.

haha! you said it well! I was about to say this.
Axura, and .5 should be even better once released.
You should go to the dev section and read about the different roms. They have different things that are good about each. Also different roms might work better on your phone than others. The 3 most popular seem to be Eugene, Axura and Team Whiskey(not in any order). FOr me Obsidian 4.2 with stock Kernal works the best for me. Like I said read first. One other thing I would say do is ODIN between each different Rom maker you use.
Obsidian v5 is running very smooth and fast for me, plus I love the black theme. I'd recommend it!
its all a matter of personal preference I personally like the Auxra ROM I like the looks the speed the battery life and the screen transitions! But look into the Android Development forum and read the feed back.

I do it just to keep from getting Ghosts. Its just my opinion.
Ive tried them all and I personally prefer axura for its amazing speed and battery life. The GPS works great for me too. Combined with Eugene's A14 ULF OC/UV kernel this rom flies. But be careful with the ulf kernel. I've had some pretty serious issues with converting dbdata to jfs...I would totally lose my data connection.

He was just messing with you, we have no gingerbread.
For me, it's stock JI6+JI2 modem + /data/data symlinked to /dbdata/data + root. It's fast as hell, solid as a mountain and gives me no problems at all.
i haven't flashed any of eugene's more current roms so i can't speak to those. however, i've been running the obsidian and onyx roms and they are great. but i flashed axura 2.0.4 last night and have been super impressed with it.
and really, imo, there is no reason to be flashing 2.1 roms anymore. there are great froyo roms that are fully functional, stable, and smooth.
what would you guys say on macnut or axura? within smoothness? speed? stability? and so on...
I have used macnut, and that rom is great and comes with alot of features. But currently I am using axura and I really feel it has breathed new life into my phone. Try them both, but for smoothness and stability I wud choose axura.

Hey Master, since you are a developer can you answer question I've asked many times but still no answer.
How does one backup their stock kernel and radio/modem.
For example if I flash your Axura ROM, and I decide I want to go completely back to stock 2.1, I can use Nandroid for my ROM right? What about backing up and restoring my stock kernel, radio/modem etc?
thanks!
Axura all the way!

Well you can always do the easiest way, and take a look at what modem & kernel you are using in the settings.. E.g, JI2 Modem = JI2 Kernel
I think TeamWhiskey has a few d/ls with Kernels && Modem packages on there site.
So if there is another way of doing it, then I don't really know.
thanks for the posts guys.. just wanted some advice on the better rom.. I AM currently using axura right now with voodoo and a 1.3ghz OC.. wanting oclf more tho.. but I guess u just gotta get lucky to use oclf on this rom because I have tried installing oclf on my rom 4 or 5 times and it bricks it everytime.. so just gotta deal with voodoo...

what ROM has everythinig working ON THE HTC EVO?? AND which one the most awesome one!? SOME SCREEN SHOTS WOULD BE AWESOME.. if you guuys could help me here! I got bored of just trying out different launchers.. wanna go into different ROMS! THANKS!!
Flash them and try them out. I liked running Myn's Z rom for a while to try out the new Sense (which is suwheet), now I'm running Sprint Lovers which has everything working (as you say), with a few extras. For real though, just try them out, worst you can do is waste some time setting up your phone again. But hey, you said you were bored so that shouldnt be a deturbance.
MIUI is the best ROM around, period. It is the perfect balance of style and substance. 4G does not work but it is a fair trade off. We just got gingerbread but it still has a few kinks to be worked out. I recommend flashing one of the latest Froyo builds.
It all depends on what you want.
Sense
AOSP
Miui

Many of the ROMs listed as threads in the Development section have screenshots of them, as appearance is a huge deciding factor for many of us. Take a look around and you'll see!

I'm running Myn's Warm Z right now (which lacks 4G, but eh, I never use it anyway, 3G is more than adequate) and Sense 2.0 is damn sweet. It's gorgeous, responsive, fluid, and just has minor touches here and there that most people really enjoy.

I've tried a few Roms, the latest being CM7 and VaelPak. After 2 weeks with those Roms, I went back to Myn. No GPS or voicemail issues, and everything runs smooth. I think Myn Warm Z is the best looking Rom, but the lack of 4G made it a dealbreaker as my daily driver.
Yea.. ive never even done a nandroid.. haha.. but ill follow some instructions and i should be fine.. hopefully.. with the radio updates.. do i have to have a current one for it to wrk on ROMS o no?

You root your phone once, the Rom it self is not rooted. They usually come with tethering and the hotspot fix.

Whats a big cause of changing to a ROM? Is it more battery life or something? or its just the customization on them?
man when did people get so lazy ? just go t to the dev section and do a little research?
Hey I have a question, sorry if its been stated as I'm from the vibrant forum
I'm going to be rooting my sisters epic tonight, and was wondering what rom would be the best (she complains about battery life) so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks everyone, and again sorry if its been Asked.

I know you didn't mean to, but yes, this has been posted a billion times =P
And here is my answer: There is no "best" ROM; it depends on the User's experience. In my opinion, I like SyndicateROM Frozen the most, but there are so many others too, like midNIGHT, Bonsai4All, UrbanFury, etc. There really is no "best" ROM.
Here's another forum with the same question to give you a little more insight:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037394
Sorry if it's not really a direct answer, but then again there really is no answer.
Hope this helps!
Yeah this us to hard to answer. Its all personal opinion. Just flash them all and luck the one you like the best. They are all great so none of then will disapoint you at all
Sent From My Evo Killer!
Yeah, what they said
If I were you I would start with syndicate rom. You will get a stable rom with support if something goes wrong. Midnight is great but the Dev sold his phone and won't be on here as much to help. It is based off of Bonsai.
Bonsai is not on here anymore. They started there own site that requires you to sign up and asks for a donation every time you download. I don't mind them asking but Bonsai has gotten out of hand.
I use midnight but am going back to syndicate as soon as K0nane and the rest of ACS release the newest ROM.
I used to use Frankenstein which is based on syndicate but his ROM is too new this time for me to try it. I wait for others to work out the bugs. LOL.
Samsung Epic with Midnight for now
EC05 Stock Plus. Stock experience with tweaks and bug fixes that make stock what it should be.
Viper Synergy 5.0
Viper Synergy 5.0 on ext4 with EC05 modem. BTW, Viperteam and ACS roms are the best but I prefer Viper. Viper Synergy 5.0 would be my recommendation.

Far from it. But the customizations are stable, all make the ROM faster, and are minimal in terms of adjustments to looks.

It's not broken, you have bad data/cache/dalvik-cache/need to Fix Permissions/need to Odin to stock EC05, wipe and reflash/need to wipe SD card and perform the previous.
As for fixing permissions, how would I do that?
As for using Odin, I tried that a long time ago and my Epic would not connect to any computers, is there another way to get stock EC05?
I believe the ROM I was using before, Truly Epic ROM, was based off DK28.

I'm really not sure... I originally flashed the ROM coming from Truly Epic ROM v1.5, going to SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0, had some troubles, so factory reset, reinstalled Syndicate, had the phone app work off and on for a day, and now it's completely stopped working.
Sorry I'm not very good at this....
Odin to stock EC05, format your SD card, redownload the ROM, wipe 3x, flash.
Just finished rooting my Evo 4G for the first time and was wondering about the different ROM available. I haven't rooted since i had my Hero a year ago. I had fresh on my Hero and loved it. However I mainly use launcher pro and wanted to get away from a sense based ROM as I wanted to use full HDMI out and bluetooth HIDS and from last time I heard a bug in sense prevented this..is this still correct?? I was looking toward CM7.
So does anyone have any recommendation to start off with?
Thanks,
-Stephen
Sense does have the broken Bluetooth stacks, yes. So AOSP-wise? Whenever I actually use AOSP, I use MIUI with latest Tiamat kernel. People complain about no 4G and how it looks like an iPhone, but it is so customizable and it has some great devs.
Other than that, I would suggest SalvageMod or Deck's.
MIUI>SalvageMod>Deck's. All with the latest Tiamat.
But I am a Sense guy, so you know.... Full HDMI mirroring works on Sense with latest Freedom and Chopsuey kernel, if you are interested.
And if you need a refresher, check out my guide in my signature. It is written for Sense but it should apply universally.

I'm gonna start w/ CM7 stable. A few quick questions. What would be the best kernel to go with this. Something to increase battery, trickle charging.
Also do i need to flash a radio with this??
I went with Decks. From what I read it is a striped down version of CM7. What are the main differences? whats has been removed?
