dissapointed with fascinate

I am honestly dissapointed with my Fascinate, I bought it because I thought it was going to be very costumizable, with the open loader and all that, the reality is that most devs are not even putting attention to this phone, only a handfull are, I have had it since the first day that came out, and development for this phone is going really really slow, and full of issues.

Relax bro, all good things will come. I was able to mod my phone a lot because these devs are putting all they can into our phone's development.
We already have lag fixes, OC kernels, debloating tutorials, backlight mods, standard unlocking screens, etcetc. Not to mention plenty of themes, apps, and other cool things.
Just relax and take a breather. We got froyo on the way and developers are waiting for that so they can really unleash the beast.

Don't say Froyo, because that's something EVERYONE wants. My phone does everything I want it to at a blazing speed, maybe you're just lazy and don't look into things deeper. IDK.

Exactly. Or phones are more than capable, and this is without much overclocking and froyo. My phone is ridiculously fast and stable, and its one hell of a looker

Actually, there are devs but they don't have the froyo kernal to work with. SGS international version has the kernal leaked, that's why they have the froyo-beta-ish roms.

Having come from an N1, which is inarguably the most dev friendly Android phone to date, I have to whole heartedly disagree with the OP. It is a little aggravating dealing with Voodoo now and then, and the processes are a little different, but all in all this phone is fantastic.
I have a custom bare-bone type rom built, fully themed and customized to my hearts content. Four installed launchers that each have a completely different style and feel which I can switch at will. OC Voodoo lag and color fix kernel running on interactive thanks to Jt, and plenty of mix and match mods and hacks to keep me flashing back and forth so frequently no one can actually call me.
We do only have a handful of devs working on the fascinate currently. They happen to also be pretty damn awesome, and give us plenty to work and play with.
I have to re-ask the question, what the hell are you actually looking to do that you can't?

How come everyone who has a bad experience, or is disapointed with there device gets called a troll? Isnt this the purpose of the Forums....to speak your opinion, learn a few things and see if anyone feels the same way?
I remember when everyone ...well people still do make fun of apple fan boyz because thats all they love is apple....but i have the feeling android fanz are becoming the same thing....close minded and haterz!!!
The purpose of android was openess and freedom....so wake up people the trolls are not those who complain about a priduct they paid good $$$$ money fir but are disapointed... the trolls are the haterz and people who beleive that there the best and there way is the only way!!!

Generally because you can sum up their complaints to a) why aren't devs giving me what I want now b) I have had my phone a month, understand very little but need to complain, or c) this phone sucks, I had my g1 for a year and we had tons of mods, dev r teh lazy.
So yeah, trolls.
If they were here to learn... The complaints wouldn't be their posting topics, they would be off learning. They are here to feed off others works and complain.

I gotta disagree with you, the thread is posted in the general section. If hes disapointed with the phone. I think its good if he tells us why. Im disapointed not because of support with the phone but because alot of stuff out the box doesnt work as advertised.....gps lag etc............and yes there are lag fixes but i paid top $$$ for it to work out the box not for me to go find a fix.
either way i think the word troll is used to freely.

I agree with you about the general section & out of the box comment. Its just that there are many other threads with the same topic. But he has the right to post this question, and I was merely asking what was wrong with the phone according to him. Out of the box, the phone is still very capable and it honestly doesnt need to be modded. But the mods are very nice.
Also what phone is perfect stock? There's always cons, and that's why we're on the forums looking for answers.

That's about it for me. But first a point or two.
Why I came here, what I hoped to provide and why I'm done:
I will be the first one to acknowledge that TW have this thing down way better than I do! I am running Nero Beta 3 as I am typing this! It would have taken me forever to come up with a 2.2 mounting fix, FOREVER. Even more, they were kind enough to give me my own repo on their site. They have been great to me and I have learned so much from them.
BUT, I wanted to provide a little variety for people between the Eugene/Master/TW releases. I think I did just that.
Mjollnir: My first try at a rom, nothing more that just a really, really big theme.
sXe: My second try which included backwards compatible framework.
Volholl: My JK2 / JK6 / JL1 Hybrid
Volholl Valkyrie: Pure JL4
Volholl Ragnarok: Only known 2.2.1 port released for Vibrant, with working wifi and gps - even with the signal related soft boot bug, I was the only one brave enough to put it all on the line and release it,
Volholl PepperKake : Pure JL5 with all images, sounds plus, plus ripped from Nexus S dump
How is it so easy to criticize someone who spends countless hours putting something together for you for free? When you have done nothing for the community other than demand more?
As far as I know, everyone respects sombionix, yet even he has had to come on here and defend a stock release because everyone kept complaining that it MAY have included TW init - which it didn't.
So, that is my rant.
I will continue to release Roms, Themes, whatever you decide to call them - they just won't be posted on XDA for a while, or ever..

Sorry to see it came to this man since I think you have provided some really useful stuff. Sad how people feel the need to troll and criticize things needlessly but I will continue to follow you else where.

I am new to this forum and I was lucky enough to grab your Nexus clone for the Vibrant. I absolutely love this rom. That is all.

Honestly, the Vibrant section of this site is going to hell with all these pr*cks pissing off those that actually do something for others. These are the worst of the worst, because not only do they not do anything, but they keep others from doing work as well. Do we really have to be such a$$es while offering criticism?

I have a pretty short memory. I do get mad but it doesn't last forever. I'm testing the next release of the pulled rom right now with the new audio and gps settings and the crt shutdown sequence.

Agreed....I for one respect all the hardworking developers (and other people who take out the time to post something that others benefit from) and really dislikedislike those who try to mess it up for everyone because they have nothing better to do...

I know I am really enjoying your latest rom. Out of all the roms available yours is the one I am using.

gotta say, i've never flashed one of your roms, but don't stopping making them available.
some people are douches and don't deserve what the community does for them.
what have they done?

Royal ROMS

Why is it that like every single team royal rom is like updated, release candidate or whatever, but every single thread lists all these things that just don't work at all. Like wifi, bluetooth, gps, or CAMERA. I don't know about everyone else, but those are deal breakers....i came from a couple other android phones, and the dev section had way better stuff. Like cm7 is amazing, but there is no quality and variety here. All the variety besides cm7 are all broken roms....just wanted to ask other people if I'm wrong and trying out the wrong shiznit, or if cm7 is really the best way to go.

Actually they are very high quality and super fast ROM's. The Mytouch 4g has been lacking alot in the dev section and this team is picking up basically all of the slack. The demand is high, so they shoot the ROM's out quickly, and we all know that they are works in progress. They work hard on the ROM's nonstop until they get it perfect. If you don't believe me, check out the Royal Glacier Rom...absolutely amazing. And the thing is, one of their buggy first releases is better most other completed ROM's. Keep up the good work Team Royal!

And you have every right to demand free stuff out of the painfully long hours that the people at xda put in to give you the variety you deserve.
The dev section is clearly defined, you know what is out there, stop whining or cook your own.

This was one of the main reasons we didn't want to release the pre-alpha honeycomb or anything else before it was completely ready but we decided to. So basically our roms are like cm nightlies. Not guaranteed that everything will work but that's why we have so many testers such as myself Haha

I will tell you why. The real developers have been chased off. There still out there, you just have to find them. There is a better ginger sense out. Been using it since royal posted there teaser. Happy searching.

If you don't like our roms, or can't live without some of the things that aren't working, there are 2 solutions. 1. Dont use our roms. No one is forcing you too. 2. Help us fix them.
If you didn't realize, I've been doing this whole dev thing for what, 3 weeks? I dont have the experience that some of the devs we had before did, so it may take me a little longer than them to fix things. Im still learning pretty much everything as I go. I apologize I'm not better at this.
I guess people dont realize how much time/effort I put into all of these roms. Or if they do, just dont care and really do have a "me me me/ now now now" attitude.
I worked on mint for days before I released it. All day everyday for the better part of a week. I gave you guys a usable product. For free. The video camera doesn't work, and there are some other bugs. Im still working on them. You know how much that made me? $0. Nada. I don't care either. I wanted Mint for myself. I want to learn. I want to give back to the community. I do it for fun. I do it for those users that will say thanks, and let me know whats wrong constructively so I can try and work it out.
/rant over. Sorry if I offended anyone with this. Its just aggravating to put in so much work for nothing and have people disrespect me for my efforts.

i know my first sounded hateful and rude, but the only reason it sounded assholy to team royal was cuz they are the only devs for this phone atm....its crazy, why is no one else here? its just that this is the first android phone i've owned where no one is devvin for the phone! i havn't used a team royal rom yet, but if i do, I PROMISE i will donate at least 10 bucks. i always donate when i use roms. just wondering why everything in our forums are like ports to mimic other phones.....idk ppl my bad team royal....haha i will donate the day that i use your roms, and ya, mytouch 4g is a great phone.....

Its not about donations at all. I really just do this for me, and share what I do. We port roms, because we want to give options. Do you want 12 versions of the stock rom? We already have 3. And theres A couple AOSP-esque roms. We wanted more options.
Just please dont take that as a "donate to me" rant. Its not that at all.

I thought this same exact thing. Do not put RC if the ROM has key features not working. CM7 Didn't become an RC until it had most kinks working. But the things not working in the Royal roms are BIG things. But I appreciate the royal team, I don't have room to complain. I don't have the want or need to be a dev and I know how difficult it is to rescript things, but false labels are bad regardless.

yeah, but factory rooting.....hehe, see HTC's "web unlocker" you can root it, but they will want every single detail about your phone, so they can automaticly void the warrenty.

hopefully samsung won't control the development otherwise devices might not receive updates anymore

So is this good or bad for us? I dont think i would be able to live with out any more updates for my phone running cyanogenmod.

If this is true, and Steve continues to work on his "side project" after Samsung forbids him to do so, he could find himself facing an onerous lawsuit from his employer.
It is known as a form of "poison pill". A company hires someone who can or does make a dent into their profits. After a while, they "discover" his work and forbid him to work on it ever again. He continues to work on it and the employer sues, claiming millions in lost revenue. At best, he is out hundreds of thousands before he settles out of court.
From someone who has seen this scenario played out more than once...

Cyanogen = Developer of CyanogenMod
CyanogenMOD = ROM that was developed by Cyanogen
Samsung hires Cyanogen. The CM ROM won't be affected, since it is a side project of his. He is currently employed, and developing his ROM isn't his full time job (although developing constantly, you could make a case for it being a full time job!). CM the ROM won't be affected by this. Updates will continue as always, and Samsung has nothing to do with the CM ROM.
The CM Team was given a Samsung phone a while back and told to "get CM7 running on it", which was pretty cool on Samsung's part. I am sure they are interested in the ROM, since it is great, and updates are frequent to address issues that arise. BUT Samsung does not own the CM ROM, they've merely hired the ROM's creator, Cyanogen.

I think this is a huge leap forward for both samsung and the CM7 community.

the way i see it, win win
Samsung got another dev to work on their android lineup
Cyanogen got a new job because he has a rom for...countless devices (most of which have been EOL'd by now, namely the OG droid and Droid Incredible) on his resume.
this will not effect cm7, at all, he will continue to operate it as a side-project, samsung did this because they want to keep up with Sense and MotorBlur. (touchwiz has room for major improovements too)

That's kinda like saying I bought General Motors because I bought a Chevy Cobalt. "Hires" makes more sense because you hire men and buy slaves. Sorry... It's not just you. I think the title in the article is ridiculous too. You just passed it along, really. THEY should know better, but this is the problem with amateur journalism that lacks any sort of valid editorial process.
I doubt this will mean any kind of merge though, for those wondering. I see lots of confidentiality agreements in this man's future, and possibly having to divorce himself from the CM project to some degree to avoid questions of intellectual property ownership. Just my thought....

When Are We Getting a Better Working Sense 4 and Android 4 ROMs?

At this point, things that don't work are the things I need to work. Nothing has changed for nearly two months now, so I'm just curious.

the impatience and greed around here is unbelievable...
if you want something to be fully working and perfect, you gotta make it yourself. plus rushing things isn't gonna do any good at all. it will come, just be patient... be glad we even have a Sense 4 ROM...

Saranhai is part of the team that brings a lot of ROM's to this device. He is probably a little frustrated that it seems like is never good enough, or fast enough for people. Your question may have been honest and purely innocent, but with the way things have been around here lately his reaction is somewhat understandable.
Several devs are hard at work on sense 4 kernels and the camera. When they have a usable fix, it will be released. If you want to add to their resolve you could always donate

I'm patiently waiting too. And so you know, I'm posting this in a good mood, not frustrated or being smart. But from what I understand is its basically at a standstill until devs can get the necassary kernel to get the camera working. It's not that they are being slow..they simply don't have what's needed to accomplish it. And I may be entirely wrong..that's just what I have been thinking.

Okay. I understand, not saying anybody is being slow. I just wanted to know what the issue was. It's crazy that Sense seems to be the most troublesome UI.

Take it at face value MF. It's my fault that you put your own thoughts into a simple question? Seriously, it's all too common on XDA for people to needlessly attack others on the basis that people are too sensitive.
See the answer that JJ gave? That's all that we needed. I wanted to know the issues the devs were facing? If anything I was concerned, because I've never seen something give this kind of trouble on this phone. We all appreciate the works that devs do. We all act like kids in a candy store for the work that devs do.

Team Inferno member ...Awesome... is releasing a One S port. Yes, One S. Hope that fits your needs (besides camera )

if you did any searching youd know it all depends on when HTC releases the 3.0 kernel and we can get some kernel devs to port it to our devices..

I think it got a little hot outside to the point it heated everything, even in the internet.... xD

The issue is that there's no HTC official kernel source for any "sister" devices - DHD/DS, and they didn't get the HTC ICS update either. Without the kernel source, devs have to use kernel source from other, less compatible devices to compile the kernel, and the binary drivers from those devices don't match the HW. There are no skilled enough and/or willing enough devs to dig in the kernel code and rewrite the API towards the drivers to match the older, working drivers from Gingerbread (that's what was done back in Gingerbread release time), mostly because it's a huge work that brings almost no benefits - the official code is likely to be better anyway, and its release will most likely be closer to this point in time than the shortest time required for "enthusiast" work.

I think in layman terms, that means if someone attempted to rewrite source code to match the h/w in the Glacier, by the time they would finish, better & more compatible code would be here anyway. So its best, at this point, to just wait patiently?
