have searched but could not find a straight answer. does CM9 use hardware acceleration and optimize both cores?
THX
At the moment, unfortunately, no...
This is the "Not working" section of the thread about ICS..
Not working
Adobe Flash (only some part work)
Built in video playback
HDMI landscape
YouTube LQ
Car dock
Fingerprint unlock
Webtop
Hardware Acceleration
Camera (obviously... like almost every ICS roms) The Entire camera API was rewritten for ICS, the current Camera drivers dont work (a lot of people are already working on this issue).

Well a release candidate comes out it should be fully working with hw acceleration and optimization of cores, although we may need to wait for official ics, but who knows.

official ICS?
As in Motorola? If so, when pigs fly. Best bet for having ICS on the Atrix is through CM.
I am pretty sure we are still waiting for tegra binaries, which they said they would release but I am skeptical at this point. Without it all we have is gingerbread with a facelift

He is a little gentle....
OK to everyone saying cm9 doesn't have hw acceleration, play a game. Both 2d and 3d work, but render script doesn't correctly and is reverting to software mode. Its not so much a driver issue as much as a kernel issue too.
As far as that list you posted. That was for the port of my photon build, not my atrix build.

According to Bloomberg
This would be very disappointing...and the reasoning seems to be that they don't want devs putting Honeycomb on phones.
"Rubin says that if Google were to open-source the Honeycomb code now, as it has with other versions of Android at similar periods in their development, it couldn't prevent developers from putting the software on phones "and creating a really bad user experience. We have no idea if it will even work on phones."

Apparently, the next source they plan on releasing will be for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Developers make ROMs that don't work or barely work sometimes! They tweak it, play with it, get it up and running. If they're not sure if it can run on phones, well, leave it up to the huge developer base for Android to do the work for them!
So silly.

that's not the problem (as far as i can tell), as people who root and would flash a HC rom on a phone are a small percent of android users. It's the OEMs they're worried about porting HC and ruining the user experience of the device -and thusly android- with a bad port.
Yeah, I can see that happening.
I can't find the post I found regarding an update on the situation, where a representative said that they just won't release it YET.
Bummer but we've seen these situations already someone will leak it before we know it.
Their have been ports of the honeycomb sdk on multiple android phones.
I Have got my hands on that as well.
Will start porting. As well
Yes it's going to be MTD. Yes their will be no Phone, but at least we can have that as well.
Hopefully i'll be done soon. This will go public once its ported.
Why bother with hc when you say you already have ics? Coupled with the lack of a phone and that google will NEVER release hc source... This seems silly.

First thing you need to learn is that DEVs do this for FREE AND they have families, lives and jobs. Whining because Google updated a Google phone to ICS and not the Epic is not the way to get answers around here. You want to learn? Learn to port and learn about Touchwiz and start working on it yourself. I have spent hours just porting icons from one theme to another, imagine rebuilding an entire ROM? And another thing we don't NEED ICS. Does your phone work? Can you get to your email? What does your phone need from ICS to function? These threads are non-productive.
If you are bored spend hours on the phone with Sprint and try to convince them to trade your Epic for a Nexus.

Let me rephrase his question for you people who obviously don't know what a context clue is.
"Hello my fellow XDA'ers, I was searching for ICS and stumbled upon this thread on the Nexus S that explains they have ICS? Now this has me baffled because the nexus s is similar to our epics sans a keyboard, yet samsung stated our epics can't handle it? This is ridiculous! I don't mean to sound rude and I give many props to the devs who finally ported cm7 but let's be real guys. ICS is where its at and if the nexus s can run it, then what's this bullcrap that the epic can't? I'm sure you guys will be able to do something about it eventually. Here's thethread for reference."
But alas, op, our devs know its bull**** but there's nothing they can do right now. There's an ICS port of the sdk google released that boots but that's about it. I mean, we have the stepping stones just no one has been willing (and. Rightfully so) to step up to the plate an finish the job

Agreed, well said, but don't overlook that our dev's recent success with cm7 may very well lead to cm9 not too far delayed from any other cm-supported device.
So while nothing anyone says on here will likely impact the final outcome, we can all silently hope and cheer on devs for cm9.

[KERNEL][ICS-CM9 or JVU] USB Host mode (OTG) driver for SGS i9000 [BUILD 4]
This thread is a good read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450298
So far its available for the i9000, Captivate, and the Nexus S.
He says this is what he needs to possibly port it to other devices -
The kernel source is avialable on github. It is either a kernel for gingerbread (>=2.6.35) or for ICS (>=3.0)
It also contains (or has links to) the initramfs and all the other files needed to create an update.
If creating the update is not straightforward I also need a script to do this for me
After the update is made I need someone with the device to test it for me. If the feedback is positive I'll build versions for that device too, whenever something is changed.
Discuss.

Nope, it just means that they've ported USB host(OTG) to other Galaxy S variants by use of a Linux 3.x.x kernel. Not the same as a 2.6.35.7 kernel, it won't just magically work for us, it'd have to be adapted. To except Epic specific things.

I think the hopes for some ICS action are so strong, and many of us don't understand what goes into porting and creating custom work. Let's be happy with what we have with the epic. I hear cm9 is coming along nicely, so what the hell more should we expect? Dual core LTE's are on the way, so enjoy cm9 when it gets here cause I remember when all of us were wondering if we'd even see gingerbread.

There is also a build for stock JVU (Gingerbread). It is possible to port this to older ROMs too (like CM7, or pre-GB ROMs). Ask your favourite kernel developer to do this for you. I only plan to support the CM9 and the stock Gingerbread version.

Ability to live without it or not, they won't release it. Its somewhere in the spectrum of "unwritten rule of XDA" to potentially a law, I'm not sure. Regardless its a good idea. Don't want a buggy ROM to lead to someone dying!
