[Q] SetupWizard.apk - Nook Touch General

Can anyone here get setupwizard.apk to work instead of using YouTube for the initial rooted NST setup?

It's been tried before multiple times on Nook Color and no one ever found a copy of SetupWizard that could properly login. The only reason setupwizard even exists in the root process is to enable network based location type stuff.

So what exactly is the problem with setupwizard.Apk?

I am curious whether simple renaming /data/system/account.db and running e.g. market would work. I was doing this when I was trying to make contact synchronization work. More details in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428040

GV isn't supported on Honeycomb as far as I know
This may only be possible if you're rooted, I can't say because I've rooted every Android device I've ever had. This is the way I got GV working on my Nook Color and Acer A500, both running HC.
Ok, first if you have GV on your Acer make sure every trace is uninstalled.
Downoad the apk and install GV 4.2.24 on the tablet (BUT DON'T OPEN IT)
This is very important, also install GV 4.2.24 on your phone.
Then I copy the shared_prefs folder from data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice on your phone and put it on your computer.
Navigate to data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice on the tablet and paste or drag and drop the shared_prefs folder inside data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice
It should not have that folder yet but if for some reason it does just overwrite it.
Then you should be able to run GV. If my memory is correct it may crash the first time, but after that it will open to your inbox.

the way I did it, was by doing a back up on my phone with titanium back up then transfer that file to my A500 then restored app. Haven't had a problem since.

[Google Apps] Without Rooting Kindle Fire 6.2.1

It is totally possible to sideload google apps without Rooting on version 6.2.1. It is a fairly simple process but needs to be done in the correct order.
1.Open Settings
2. Select Device
3. Turn on Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources
4. Download GoogleServicesFramework.apk and install. You need to download the correct version or it will not install. I apologize for not having the version number but currently it can be found @ www.mediafire.com/?4ykd6rdikmz5l8c
6.Download books.apk - Do Not Open
7. Reboot
8. Open Books and add google account. This even works with multiple accounts.
9. Shortly after you should have a notification requesting permission of your google account. Click allow.
10. Sideload Google apps of your choice. See below for options.
Google Apps that work
Google Music
Google +
Google Books
others...
Sideloading Google Apps
1.Sideloading Google app of your choice
1a.Find on filesharing website i.e. 4shared.com, filestube.com, etc.
1b. Backup from another device and use drop box to access
1c. Transferring apk via USB
2. Open .apk file and click install
This will work flawlessly if done in the right order. Remember GoogleServicesFramework.apk install, books.apk, reboot , open books , add account, and voila.
If I have helped you please thank me.
Enjoy.....

Thanks, that's great news since I'm getting one for Christmas and I just read Amazon is forcing that update :/
6.2
Will this also work with 6.2?
install lookoutsecurity before installing apps from third party warez sites............or just root it and use android market
This is fantastic. Once I have books installed and my gmail account synced, will I be able to just grab a Market apk to sideload and then get everything I want from the Market?
I've been back and forth between the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire as my cheap tablet to buy, and the Nook Tablet took a big hit when they disabled sideloading. I think the Kindle Fire is popular enough that it will also be a target for an official CM9 release as the CM9 project gains steam.

The subject of the thread is wrong Misleading.
You can't install the GoogleServicesFramework.apk into /system/app where it needs to be in order for it to work without having root access.
Update:
You need that GoogleServicesFramework.apk to do things like Android Market, Gmail etc...
You can only install a few google apps without root access. The Market Place requires root access, which you can't get with the latest version of the kindle software (6.2.1)
If you are rooted and have Market already installed, will today's update make Market stop working?
If you have GoogleServicesFramework.apk installed, will that cease to function?
Will it break the wallpaper change fix?

Depends how you installed/updated it. All files in /system/app get replaced. If you installed the market place and it has since updated itself (installing to a different location that doesn't get cleared with the update) then you should be okay. Had a fresh install of the Market Place following online guides to copy it into /system/app then a good chance it will stop working.

OK I tried. This is just the googleservices.apk and installing it won't get your Market working if it was broken from the update to 6.2.1.

Google Currents
I lost root and Google Currents after 6.2.1 update. I still have a functional Android market and Gmail. Google Currents won't install now. I get an error stating missing Google library.
Any suggestions how to reinstall Currents. BTW, I was able to install Google Books successfully. Thanks.

I reinstalled the 'GoogleServicesFramework.apk' (the version I had installed previously, not the one linked above). It installed fine but I get The application Market has stopped unexpectedly Force Close when I boot the Kindle, and also when I try to run the Market place and Install an app.
Until I ran the GoogleServicesFramework.apk I didn't get the bootup error. I ran the installer from the sdcard, previously (with root access) I was able to copy and run it from '/system/app' which I think makes all the difference.

Does your Gmail still update itself and show new email notifications without you having to open gmail and manually refresh? I think though Gmail still runs the service that runs in the background has stopped post update.

Your correct. Gmail no longer auto updates. When opened it shows "no conversations." Thanks for your reply.
I had 6.2 rooted but got updated to 6.2.1 even I amended the hosts file and rename the Silent apk to bak, also with TWRP 2.0 installed. Anyway, I re-install the GoogleServicesFramework.apk, and I can access the Android Market again.
I tried to use the GoogleServicesFramework.apk link provided in this thread, but it didn't work. The original one worked, so I am happy to be able to access the Android Market again.
didnt work for me
Very important! it now works, u must have the right google frameworks, if it installs u have right one. Then dont use the vending apk, i use the apk that said market apk and it worked perfectly, market now works.

[Q] NST GMarket search

Hi,
I am kind of new to Android (not linux) and I am asking myself, if it is even possible to enable the search function somehow in Google Market.
There are several attempts to do so and some report it working. Unfortunately, the working reports are so old that I am confused weather it is still possible or not.
I have tried several Vending.apk's, even the ones reported working as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51
I am on 1.1.2. Maybe someone could confirm/disprove Market search working or not. Then we would know if struggling is worth the task getting it to work.
Thanks for the reply

Use SearchMarket.apk to search for apk's in the market.
It work's if you have registered your gmail account correctly (that is your market.apk works/connects to google play).
http://www.appbrain.com/app/searchmarket/youten.redo.searchmarket?install=appwidget
yeah no, that was not what i meant.
Of course Market is working with a proper gmail adress. I was talking about it being possible to search the market w/o searchmarket app. Like people telling it would work, but most posts are still of 2011. So my question is: Is it even possible to search the Market in nowadays Google Play time w/o 3rd party apps?
Why is searching not possible? IMO, it is because of server restictions, not because of the Vending.apk. Right?
So I assume these "claimed to be working" Vending.apk's are not working anyway anymore, are they?
Thx
How can I get the SearchMarket.apk file for manual adb installation? My Nook Market app won't let me install any app.
Edit: Managed to get it installed by searching for it from within the Browser and installing from the web interface. Weird but after that the SearchMarket app was shown topmost on MyApps in Market and could be clicked, which begun installation.
The problem is Market for Nook only displays a limited # (~15) of MyApps (given I have a Galaxy S3 with 350+ apps installed and that the Nook Market doesn't restrict to Nook installed ones).
just download market search from gstore ....... log on gmail acc that u root ur nst with and go to google store and search ur appz ur desire and download to ur acc ....... once u connect ur nook to wifi ur appz will download successfully , between that i am use market seacher on my rooted nst 1.1.2 and works great till now , try methid above with reinstall market searcher
good luck

Just in case.
youten.redo.searchmarket.apk
The apk itself is free so i guess uploading it here is not illegal.
I recently uninstalled (deleted) the apks of certain android apps like gtalk, calendar from my system/app folder on my rooted NST using root explorer.
Not sure if it is related, but, unable to install any app now from the app market. I use app-brain app market for downloading apps.
I'm able to find the apps, but on clicking on download, it doesn't get downloaded and instead says it is 'downloading' without any apparent change.
Is the problem related to the deletion of certain apks?
Note: haven't deleted any apk even associated with the word download/market.

Solved it. I Had uninstalled gtalk thinking it was unnecessary on the NST but it broke the market.
Installed gtalk and the market started working fine again.
You are sure you didn't uninstall anything?
What is the error btw? It takes you to the download page but the download doesn't begin?

Gapps for FW 1.2.0

Hi,
I've manually installed FW v.1.2.0 on my NSG. Rooting with Nook Manager went without any problems.
Now I'm trying to manually add gapps from glownooter 1.5.26 package. Since it is for older FW it causes hangs on loading screen.
While putting manually files from glownooter with adb, I've found that the root of the problems lies probably in framework.jar. It was patched to provide IMEI for registration purposes, but now it seems that new FW changed that file.
It would be great if it was possible to update authentication patch for fw v.1.2.0 following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955847
Meanwhile I can boot fine, when the new framework.jar stays untouched. But then I can not go through android initial wizard - on the first screen I can not get through clicking on droid icon. If SetupWizard.apk is removed from nook system boots fine, but apps (apart from YouTube) does not start since device is not connected to google account.
I hope that with little help we would have gapps running on new fw.

Have you had any luck with this? having similar issues! When selecting 'My Channel' in Youtube, it gives a 'There was a problem authenticating' message.
Also used NookManager as all attempts at trying to root 1.2.0 with TouchNooter failed. It would never get past the 'your nook is starting up' page.
It came pre-installed with 1.2.0 but looks like I may have to downgrade to get the play store to work:

Hi,
I managed to get through - at least partly. I mean I have working google apps, but market is not working. It seems that BnN changed their framework.jar and the already patched version from nooter is not working anymore - that is why after rooting with nooter Nook is not booting.
If getting working gmail etc. is enough I can give You detailed instructions to get it working - unfortunately it is not single step procedure.

Yes please, could you explain how to get gmail etc working?
I used k9 mail for my gmail account, I find it is more useful on the nook ereader.
Did you get google calendar working yet?
I created a diff from the glownooter's framework.jar (1.1.5) and the original. I then applied this diff to the 1.2.0 framework.jar. (This is without the debug information.) Although I have since deleted all the gapp stuff, it worked at one time.
This is my first post although I have been reading and researching off of xda for the last 6 weeks.
You have to know what you are doing. If you need help, let me know.
here is the patch I used:
I just posted an addon for NookManager to install Google Apps for firmware 1.2.0 and 1.2.1. The thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086582 Hope you find it helpful.
BTW, I used an awk script to patch the smali instead of diff / patch. It's more resilient to changes in the firmware and the oddities of line numbers and baksmali labels. It should make creating a new patch for the next firmware simple. I also added a patch to services.jar to get the setup wizard working and eliminate the YouTube - GMail dance. I'm uploading all my work to github now and will link it from the above thread.

[Q] Installing 3rd party apps on Nook Simple Touch

Hello there,
I have rooted my nook simple touch using the guide found bellow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35267728#post35267728
It worked out after a while of struggling, but now I am wondering how am I able to install 3rd party android apps on it? I have downloaded a test .apk application on the nook toc heck either it is working. It comes out that it doesnt, but maybe its because i went browsing for it using the library app, as I havent found any other file browser on the system. I amrunning the latest 1.2.1 version.
I Would really aprichiate some help in this matter, I tried googling out but i havent found anything specific to help me solve the problem, there were some solutions to the newer models that dont apply for me.
@bremenpl,
Arguably, the best file explorer available for the Nook Touch is ES File Explorer 3 (free on Google Play). It's what I use.
To enable 3rd-party app installation, install NookColor Tools, open the app, and check the box for "Allow Non-Market Apps".
The problem is I dont have any file browser at all and I cant install any .apk on my nook. NookColor Tools is also an .apk and I cannot open this kind of file in library browser. How to overcome that? I dont have google apps installed as I didnt want to install google play, gmail and etc. I tried loging into amazon appstore that is installed, but it doesnt accept my login nad password.

Ah, I see your point. Thankfully, this can be remedied if you have either ADB set up, the app Terminal Emulator, or both. What do you have?
I have none of it. Whats more straight forward to do?

I'd say Terminal Emulator, but that's yet another app that you need non-market permission to install.
ADB it is, then. PM me for extensive installation instructions.
