[Q] Q to the xda braintrust - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a unroot my touch 4G, also my wife unroot G2 both with "unlimited" internet, a laptop and a wireless hp printer, but I have not internet service at home like comcast or uverse, only from my phones. So to connect my laptop most times I turn on portable hotspot in my phones or I can use EasyTether but can't use my printer wireless.
So the question, is there any way to wireless connect my printer? is there any App that can help me?
thanks in advance!!!

You have to connect your printer to the wireless network. your printer isn't connected to the phone's AD-HOC tethering.

Ok, but how I do that and where, in the laptop or phone?
Sorry but I an totally new at this

I don't know you'll have to refer to your manual. I don't use wireless printers.

Kinda new to the board so If you could send me a private message I might be able to find this again.. thanks
Have a look at chainfire's app which allows you to do it through wifi:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341398
Wi-fi only?
This link appears to be wi-fi only.. will it work with the Sprint Network.. ?
Yeah, what it does is convert your Mogul's WiFi into an access point. Your laptop will access your Sprint connection as though it were connecting to your wireless router at home.
if my laptop is wireless?
I wouldnt need to use my phone if my latop is Wi-Fi.. Guess what I was wanting is a way to use my laptop using the sprint network, for when I cant get Wi-Fi.
I thought is was possable but I must have been mistaken

This is the point. Your Mogul will be your WiFi access point that will use Sprint internet connection. This is for when you CANNOT get WiFi with your laptop.
OMG !
I'll try it one last time...
1. Your laptop (as you just confirmed) is capable of receiving WiFi.
2. Your Mogul receives Sprint's data connection.
Unless you are not aware, your Mogul is also capable of receiving WiFi (like your laptop). What chaninfire's program does is make your Mogul capable of SENDING a WiFi signal while connected to Sprint so that your laptop will receive it. Your laptop will be connecting to Sprint's network through Mogul's WiFi signal. In other words your Mogul becomes a wireless router.
OK. i get it... Sorry.. was confused
Didnt mean to sound like a idiot.. but I was lost thinking that I could only use Wi-Fi.. But now know I can connect to the Sprint network and using wi-fi to connect my Laptop make perfecr sense.. now if I can just figure out how to get it working.. I'll take a lok at the like you sent me.. If I remember it looked confusing but I'm sure its not as bad as it looks... thanks a lot

The program is super simple. I use it to connect my iPod Touch to the net.

If you follow the instructions you will also unlock the internet sharing app. Once you have followed the instructions in the thread about chainfires app, to share your internet over USB,do the following.
1) terminate the activesync app on your handset
2) Run the internet sharing application
3) As soon as its done connecting, plug in the USB cable.
4) Enjoy the internet. A similar procedure can also be used to connect via bluetooth, but you get better speed over USB or via WiFi.
If you want to use wifi, you can either follow the adhoc method listed in the thread,or you can use a wireless access point. To use a wireless accesspoint, set your WAPs local IP address to 192.168.0.2 Internet connection sharing will want to be 192.168.0.1 Now you need to connect your mogul to the WiFi network, and connect your PC to the wifi network. Go into the network properties and set your pc to 192.168.0.x where x is an unused address. Set the gateway and DNS servers to 192.168.0.1 and your on the internet. As far as I know, this should work with multiple computers on your network, and it will connect up easily and seamlessly when you flip the wifi switch on your mogul.
From the WMWifiRouter topic:
Sprint HTC Mogul/SERO Notes
It seems Sprint is up to shenanigans in regards to tethering for SERO users. Those of you running Sprint ROMs should navigate to the following registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing" and delete the string value named "Extension". This will allow you to connect to the Internet via the Internet Sharing app without the dreaded error 67/authentication errors. Previous to this fix, Mogul SERO users would have to connect to the Internet via another method (such as starting Internet Explorer first) before pressing the Connect button in the the Internet Sharing application.
If you're really paranoid (it has been concluded these entries have no meaning when using Internet Sharing), using a registry editor, navigate to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\WModem" key, and set the "CheckProfile", "Multi-NAI" and "WModemDUN" DWORDS to a decimal value of "0".

WMWifiRouter does this for you automatically, but that isn't much help if you want to share via USB instead of WiFi. The above solution should work with USB as well, and the error 67 goes away. GL
on internet sharing... should it be set to phone as modem or sprint pcs?

With the Mogul you can have your Wifi card on and still be on Sprints EVDO network at the same time. Basically you are broadcasting the EVDO connection wirelessly. I use it on my laptop and get pretty good download speeds. It pretty much like using the Sprint EVDO connection data cards...You have to go into the adapter settings under the connections tab and give it a static IP address (ie 192.168.1.9)
Work with Verizon?
It seems like all of the posts speak about Sprints network, do these methods work with Verizon?
Are there any methods specific to Verizon?
I just signed up with for a SERO account and have one major question regarding the wifi router app... Does it put the phone into "tether" mode? In other words, will sprint be able to detect that you are sharing your connection or does it simply bridge the phone's EV-DO connection to its wifi connection?

It's a bridge but Sprint can always detect it if they wish. A guy over in the WMWifiRouter topic says he has been tethering for quite a while this way and hasn't gotten a bill for it.
Oh So simple.. Bluetooth connection
Well I Got my Mogul like 2 months ago and just stumbled across the internet sharing app and to my suprise it worked.... No Xtra software required
I have a macbook 13'in w 2g ram, bluetooth and all that. I use my mogul with my mac and it works like a charm wish i had EVDO in the area but it is good for now....
Step one: Pair your mogul with your computer.
Step Two: Make sure you Have a connection to the net on your mogul. Use ie to go to a page on your phone (otherwise it will say your username and pass are not right)
Step Three:Open internet sharing on your mogul. Make sure your PC connection is: Bluetooh Pan and the Network connection is: Sprint PCS
Step Four: Tap the connect tab on your phone
Step Five:After the internet sharing has a connection to the net, go to the bluetooth settings on your computer, Select you phone and connect
There you have it Tethering VIA bluetooth with no Xtra software.
here is a question.....what if i need to connect a desktop to the internet using the mogul? how do i go about that? everything is about wifi and there seems to be nothing about connecting a desktop to it.
can someone give me pretty detailed instructs on how as i have never done this before.
thanks
I use pdanet for Verizon Titan. It works very well and simple. Simply connect through usb or bluetooth and bamn..you are connected. It also does not charge you any tethering fee....but acquiring pdanet is a cost unless you can find it somewhere....
problem is I dont know how to "simply" connect through the usb. Im pretty ignorant where this stuff is concerned. is there any free ware that does what pdanet does? not that im a cheapO but hey money saved is money earned right?

Using notebook internet on HTC Touch HD

Hello!
Is there any possibility to use the internet connection from the notebook with ADSL cable on the HTC Touch HD using a data cable?
Or make this internet from notebook turn wifi and use on HTC?
Sorry for my poor english...
Thanks people!
Easiest way is using activesync connection (USB or bluetooth). There are many tutorials on this - just google them

I couldn't find any thing about this on google. The problem is that It has many thread explaining how to use the phone as modem and not the inverse.
My network adapter is an Intel Wi-Fi 4965AGN. Can I put this adapter to work on acces point and send internet to my phone?
You should be able to plug the Cat5 cable into the netbook and then turn on internet connection sharing on the Cat5 Network Connection. You then need to bridge that and the wireless adapter connection and set the wireless up as an ad-hoc network. You then join the ad-hoc network with the Touch HD.
Look here for how to do it: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx

[Q] is there any way to share a computers internet connection via phone?

I am interested in taking the internet connection from a desktop computer through USB on my phone and then using the phones wireless to share the connection to my laptop.
At my work the only way to connect to the network is if they allow your specific computer onto the network. I have been getting around this by using a mac that is on the network and setting up an ad-hoc network. This had worked well but they are replacing the mac with a brand new Dell tomorrow! Ah!
Any ideas on how I can share that network? None of the windows machines in our office have a wireless card and due to whatever security I can't just plug in.
Please note I am not trying to tether.
Thank you for any help!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Well, I couldn't think of a way with the phone. But I did come up with this. http://www.staples.com/Netgear-WNCE2001-Ethernet-to-Wireless-Adapter/product_865869?cmArea=SEARCH
Connect your computer to a switch, connect this to said switch. Then switch to lan port. Then set up ad-hoc using this? Little pricy but meh?
there are many ways to do this, you could use CM7 for one, it has wifi tethering built in.
there is PDAnet that tethers through usb and wifi (i think)
also go to the threads for your phone and look around to see how other users have accomplished it themselves.

[Q] Xbox Live using Android's WiFi

Hi, I've been searching and searching for a answer to this question for a while now. I apologize in advance if theirs a post on the forum somewhere that answers it. I wasn't able to find any however. My question is: Is it possible to connect my android phone (Samsung Captivate) to my xbox 360 and turn it into a wireless router so it can connect to my PC's router. I don't want to spend money on the wireless router that Microsoft offers for the xbox. And I'm talking about using WiFi, not data connection.

i wasnt aware that Microsoft offers a router with an xbox. But yes, you can turn your phone into a wireless hotspot and have your xbox connect to that.

Do not expect any huge connection speeds.
I think he means he doesn't have the dongle so his xbox can connect to his wireless network. Don't know if the phone can receive the wifi signal and tether it out that way. You can try the usb tether.
Yeah its about 60 dollars now (the network adapter Microsoft offers). The thing is the xbox doesnt even recognize my phone as a storage device. I was wondering if anyone has actually tried doing this before. I was going to try the usb tethering but I was reading up on it and most of the people that were using it were using data connection and not wifi so I was unsure.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
for usb tethering you would need a xbox client....and i doubt that has been done before.
The only way your gonna get your xbox to connect to any wireless signal is with a wireless adapter.
You need that adapter, no way around it.
