Hi,
It would be helpful if we share our AppBrain App List links here so we can what useful apps each of us are using. =D
Here is my link: MarlboroAzrag's GT540 Apps-AppBrain
For those who do not know what appbrain is:
1. Go to www.appbrain.com, login with your google account
2. Download and install the official appbrain app from your phone(search from the market)
3. Open the appbrain app on your phone and press "Manage my apps" then press "Sync with Appbrain"
4. You can now go to the appbrain website on your computer and start adding apps to the "Apps on the GT540" list.....
5. There is a link beside your list and share it here(Make sure you make the list "Public" so we can see it)
6. That's it!
I would recommend we just post the links and some comments, just so it does not get too messy if you know what i mean.

Please dont tell me to look at the downloads tab, because i know that.
Basically when i install a new rom, the market has now lost the free apps because thats what it does. the market must have some sort of file it maintains locally with the list of apps, and whether or not they are set to auto-update. where is this list so i can just paste it into my new rom, and market will automatically get all the apps and maintain the auto update settings.
(also i know and use titanium backup so dont reply with 'use titanium', i just want to do what im looking for so the market always gets the latest version on a rom redo and also keeps holding the auto-update status.)
thanks.
Did you try dialing the market update code?
*#*#2432546#*#*
That's suspose to resync with the market I think.

In the sync settings for google, there is a backup option. It will download all previously installed apps when you setup the new rom, including free apps. If you don't want all if the apps to install, skip setup initially and open the market. Use that to log into your google account, then jump to the downloads window and cancel the ones you don't want. It will also insure you have the newest version.
This will not back up app data, however. Just re-install the app.

only see a contacts, gmail and calender in google sync settings.
I have looked around inside the os for the setting. The only way I can find it is to remove my google account and re-add it. At the end, it gives you the option to back up all data. That us the opinion that enables this I believe.

On some roms the googleapps are removed, stated with "just download from market if you need them"
Because it took me quite some time to find out how to reinstall gmail on some roms i want to share the solution.
If you are living in a country where you CANT download gmail from the market (like me) you need to unlock it.
Go to the market and search for "market enabler" install it and set to any us provider.
Now search for "gmail" and you will have the gmail app.
IMPORTANT: You will have to set autosync manually otherwise you wont get push emails.
->settings->acount & synchronisaton->google->sync google mail
Hey guys !
i need your help fixing the google search app on my defy with cm7.
when i press the sreach hardware button, the google search app does not start. at longpress it offers me to star dragonGO, Voice search by google and one other app.
the sreach button does work in the market or other app.
with the default rom i could start the search app with the button. is this possible with cm7 aswell?
i flash the gapps zip to get all google apps. then i installed the updates via market. in the original nor the updated one the button works.
thanks sofar!
See if google search is installed (market)
If it is, go to settings > input > ... (look for something with search button)
Ok thank you man! I found the setting. when i checked the button for custom app it could _NOT_ select google search app, but unchecking did the job!
thanks again
I tried this solution and it did not work.
Thinking a fresh install may do it, I deleted it manually from the system dir using root explorer and then it would not even install from the market for some error from the market.
I found a different solution in case anyone has this issue. Once you have it installed as a user app (I copied an apk from a rom zip and pasted it into the /data/app dir) open Titanium backup and find Google Search. Long-press on it and select the option that says "convert to system app"
Done. The search button should now open the google search app from the home screen now.
PS: If GS is already is already installed as a "System app" app long-press and select "Convert to User app" and see if it works at that point.
I have rooted my NST v 1.1.2 with TouchNooter. I waited a day and Market now comes up and gmail will sync. While I can download from Market as long as there is an app in the "what's hot" or 'new" lists, I cannot search. If I try to search for an app, nothing happens.
Also, I can search on Amazon market place but the files will not download; on Amazon when I try to download an app I get an empty dialog box with nothing in it except a button labeled 'ok'. I did get into NookColor Tools and unchecked and then rechecked 'Allow Non-Market Apps."
SuperManager will not launch so I can't install any apks (is there any other way to install an apk?)
I saw a hint on another thread that 'Fix permissions' in NookColor Tools might be an option, but I cannot find how do do this.
Any ideas on how to fix without restoring and re-rooting?
Is there a terminal loaded by default so I can enter commands? If so, how do I access terminal?
Edit: I discovered that "Fix Permissions" is actually in the NookTouch Tools. I had to go into SuperUser to allow NookTouch Tools and then I could run "fix permissions". However, it had no effect on the problems noted above.
Thanks!
Try to install SearchMarket Ap by youten and use that to search for apps in Market.
Launch the Opera Mobile browser or whatever broswer you have and type “searchmarket app” into the search bar.
The top listing will direct to AppBrain.
Tap the big install button and it will direct to the Android Market to install it.
(this is a fix we are given for NSTGL so hopefully it will work for you also)

Thanks! That got me market search ability.
I see a lot of people looking to have the launcher with the new 4.4 factory image so I decided to share.
Google pushed an update to Search today that provides GEL functionality for all devices running 4.1+.
Here's how to get it done:
THIS WORKS ON 4.1+. YES YOU READ THIS RIGHT.
1) Download the launcher APK.
Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0-C-WV5dUiETFRjeThJVnBpRTA/edit?usp=sharing
Dropbox mirror: https://db.tt/72JTuIkc
The source of this APK is from Android Police mirrored on my google drive. If you don't trust the download you may find it there.
2) Enable installation of APKs from unknown sources. Since this isn't coming from the market. Android will kindly remind you its dangerous. Settings > Security > Uncheck "Unknown Sources".
3)Use a file explorer or similar to navigate to and install the GEL apk.
4)Tap your home soft key and choose the Launcher option (looks like a blue house).
This should get you set up. If you decide you want to change back to the old you can go to settings > home and choose whichever you please.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!

For some reason it didn't want to make that directory public. Link should be fixed. Sorry about that!:silly:
