Hi Guys!
Just bought a galaxy note from a friend who thought it was too big for only £300!
Im looking at getting it rooted, but do you think i should just wait till the 4.0 upgrade? is there much differance with the Custom roms or major improvements?
Any starter tips will be great!

Welcome!
There are some pretty big speed improvements and tweaks that you can achieve in a custom ROM. The best is RocketROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380284
It is kept VERY VERY current.
happy reading!
welcome
Man you got the deal of the century at £300 fine british pounds, the notes sweet as it is but at that price nice one.
Custom roms bring benefits of course sometimes an odd bug creeps in but the devs here are great so its not long before its resolved.
Ive used Rockets and Checkrom and both are fine examples of craftmanship, as always read up and then reread and pick one that suits your needs, there are many choices so one will suit your needs
And for themes there are some skilled peeps here, but my fav is nobnuts dark theme very classy.
Why wait for ICS just go for it,

[JPX] Darky ROM
Since there are many requests about JPX, I started thinking if I should start playing the whole game over again.
- For my thoughts, JPX isn't any faster than JPU. Do you agree?
- JPX is 'official' but does it have major improvements over JPU?
Would you mind the extra time I would have to spend to port the AOPS lockscreen, Extended Menu, Gingerbread Theme (+ % Battery)?
I won't do this if there aren't any real benefits.
Now answer to this thread and convince me.
- darkyy.
v5.6 is perfect for now.
You don't need to port a useless XXJPX when we'll have Gingerbread in no time.
Keep your strength!
All the theme files from your JPU seem to work on Doc's JPX.
not too much of a techie so this might be a stupid question but instead of making the jpx rom could you maybe do summat similar with the gingerbread rom instead which has been ported over to the galaxy s
Well, the fact JPX is an official release is a benefit for sure in my opinion... And I did like the darky rom for JPU so yeah, I would like to see one for JPX. Neither option in the poll is suitable though and a bit too extreme.
I would sincerely like one, but only you (Darky) can assess if it's worth the effort and if you think a gingerbread version might be available soon as well it might indeed be better to focus on that one.
JPX is worthless for me, we will leave Samsung roms really soon

That he's spent enough time playing around with it and has come to the conclusion that it's not a significant step ahead of JPU?
I prefer a Gingerbread Darky Rom.

JPU and JPX themes are compatible so all the theming, lockscreen and ext menu can be ported without extra troubles.
If the rest is not to much trouble I would say yes.

As much as I love to read flamewars etc (bless the apple, microsoft and all other fanboys) don't go at it again.
It gives you a negative image which is a waste considering your rom product so far is good.
I want to see another flamewar too!
And darky, just use the 3 Files that are according to the ASOP and Extended. And i dont believe, you could achieve it for your self.
I'm now too tired to make a JPX Rom... I wanna wait till tomorrow or so and have a look what about kernels. You should do that too!
Hey Darkyy
I`m on Doc`s JPX right now and had test your 5.5 Version today. Your Rom looks quite nice and I had no Issues at all
So I would say: Have a nice weekend, spent your time in other nice things like "go out with your girlfriend", or something like that and spent your time in helping Supercurio with porting Nexus S Kernel to our lovely Galaxy S
->Wait for 2.3

Anyways Darky your JPU roms are great as they are. JPX would be a waste. If I were you I'd spend my time poking around the Gingerbread stuff everyone else is pulling apart. Thanks for all the hard work you put in!
Yes I love your Rom! framework with gingebeard theme were created for JPX ?

Thanks R64 - I wanted to hear your opinion on this.
So you took the JPU mods (lockscreen, extended menu, battery mod etc.) and just placed it on a JPX firmware? and it run without any issues?
That's weird...
I don't like flamewars, anyone should stop it now.

Jim, we both know, I'm not that experienced with XML files.
To be true, I never got to compile a working framework.
That's the truth.
As I said you in the chat a few days ago - for the next time, I'll do it myself.
I want this to be functional on my own way.
I'm a bit tired for a JPX ROM too - just too many exams next week and A LOT of homework..
Anyway, thanks Jim, for your opinion.

Good idea
But to be blood-honest: I never ported a ROM to another device.
I have no clue about kernels etc.
I just learned to create ROMs.
I'm running JPX and on my SGS and I believe it's smoother than JPU. Just thought you should know, before you decide. GPS seems better as well...!
My first post here.. Been looking and downloading trough the forum for a while and never posted anything!
I just want to thank Leedroid for an amizing rom... Kernel is awsome as well. Also... Seo and Krzysiec for the 3.0 lockscreen!
Cheers to all!!... Just a plain positive post!
+1 to that mate, just jumped on the root and custom ROM ship a week ago and decided to go with LeeDroid. Haven't looked back since!
For those of you who are trying Leedroid, why not also give a go to some of the other ROMs that are there. Everyone offers you something different, so it's always nice to have a look and see. Especially with the Sense 3 ROMs.
I personally use Revolution and i've loved it since day one.
I personally love coredroid... Very good support, nice looks, low battery drain and its fast as hell
Ok guys, so this thread is to help those who are undecided like me on which of these two roms to use. I am looking for input from people who have experienced both of them and which one do you prefer and why. Also which one is fastest, has better battery performance, best features, looks etc. Basically what sold you to that rom.
PLEASE dont take this as some sort of competition between this to DEVS, as I am sure that both of these roms are great, and maybe it comes down to personal prference, but I will like some input from the guys that have tried them both.
Im currently using WB 008 2.3.3 and it rocks!!
no problems

best answer is test them both!
ThGo2 v0.80
Simple, reliable. And I'm pretty sure it will be the first few roms to come with custom kernel of Goro, as the dev himself is also Japan based.

I just got mines yesterday and I cant really recommend one as its your personal choice. I tried a few of the "tablet" ones and I think I'm going back to stock later or a kang, if I can modify my nav buttons/colors etc.

There's no such thing as "the best ROM". Everybody wants something different. Take your time and try things out. You'll soon find out what matters to you. It took me about 6 months of playing around with lots of different ROMs to finally settled on what works best for me.

BAMF paradigm is a really nice combination of custom settings options (like customizable nav buttons, ability to make them any color, built in battery skin chooser, theme chooser, and more) and stability and in my opinion just makes a really nice well rounded daily driver.

Hi all,
I am the developer of SentinelROM, which is one of the most popular ROMs for Nexus 10, Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and HTC One X.
SentinelROM is compiled by me with modified CyanogenMod 10.1 code (additional tweaks for performance and battery life, as well as some theming). So far the ROM has been very successful.
I've decided to release the ROM for Samsung Galaxy SIII (i9300) also, but I need your help as I don't own a SGSIII to test with.
I am reaching out to anyone who would be willing to flash my test ROM and test a few things for me.
If you're interested, please PM me either here, or via the SentinelROM facebook page. I will reply with a download link and instructions.
I only need a few people for testing, so please don't be offended if I don't get back to you with a download link.
This ROM is for i9300 only at this stage, so please do not reply if you own an i9305 as the ROM will not work on your device.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Everyone, this guy turns out a great ROM. I have Sentinel ROM on my Nexus 4 and it's very, VERY nice. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the plug mate.
OP updated with a download link so you can get up and running right away.
Looking forward to some feedback so I can launch this ROM
Well i am installing this now will let you know how it goes..
Thanks heaps!
how did you go?
I wish I cud try it too. Any chance for us I9305 users to get this? Maybe later when it gets a good rep on i9300? I know you asked us users to not to reply but I cudnt resist asking

Well everything is working as normal. I played about with the rom it is pretty stable. Everything works, and when i fell asleep unlike cm the battery never drained maybe about 3 percent drain overnight which is great. So the battery life on this rom is excellent. You're good to go with your rom. Sorry for the late reply i installed this around midnight. Used the rom and till about 2am and fell asleep. I am still using it. I must say overall it is a great rom. Thank you very much. I've not yet found a fault but maybe i might find one but that would be cm related.
For a beta rom this is really stable. Onlything maybe it isn't a big problem now but in the ota updater lol it doesn't recognize the device as MO.
Beautiful!!!
I'll credit you in the OP. Thankyou very much!

sentinel rom v 4.5 for gt-i9300
Hello, Sentinel.
First of all I'd like to thank you for this truly amazing rom, there's so many things I can do with my phone and change almost everything I want to within it. I only found 1 issue which may not be an issue at all, I might still be a bit inexperienced with all this modding stuff, but I haven't found a way to overclock or undervolt my phone using your kernel, but I took a risk of using siyah kernel 1.9.1 which is said not to be compatible with 4.2.2 JB and basically all new roms that are out now, but the funny thing is IT DOES WORK! And I think that siyah 1.9.1 kernel and your custom sentinel rom is the best combo ever for my galaxy s3. The battery works great even when I overclock it, it's really stable and never glitching. I can say I'm a heavy consumer, wifi constantly on, and I'm playing psone games with and emulator alot and it still does a pretty decent job. On my next payday I'm definitely donating, buddy. And in a months time when s3 stock 4.2.2 JB will come out, I'd like to see what you can do with that one aswell.
Keep up the great work, best regards, Lietus.

Hi Lietus. I assume you posted this here because you can't post in the ROM thread, so I'll answer you here
My official position on over/underclocking and UV/OV is discussed on my website. Have a browse.
Sorry but it's not something I support in my ROMs. People are alwsys welcome to use other Kernels to unlock these features if they want them.
Looking forward to payday
Hey, this is my first post, you did a really good job with this rom!
Is there any way to disable the fullscreen keyboard feature?
I understand where you're coming from and I totally agree with you if we users want we can make it ourselves using different kernels especially when your ROM is that great and it accepts different types of kernels. And I've got 5 different types of android machines which could use some improvement so if you're interested and have the time to expand your ROMs through those it would be just awesome. Because your ROM is actually the first custom one I've tried, and after a lot of research I can't seem to trust myself with someone else's
