ICS 4.0.3 Ressurection v7.1 Camera Fix - Galaxy S II General

Hey all!
Ok, so I am not able to post in the devs section until Iv made ten posts, so Im posting this "fix" over here.
I have been following XDA for a while since I got my SGS2 and have tried waaay to many ROMs! Ressurections ICS is a brilliant release, but i found that the camera would FC without notice everytime it was opened.
If anyone else is having the same issue, I figured it out:
Open up App manager (from app menu, menu button, manage apps).
Scroll to "Media Storage" app in the list.
Select it and then select force stop/close, and clear app data.
Now the camera should work!
I have no idea what it does to any other part of the phone or any photos etc that you might have in the gallery or on SD.
Anyway, thought I could be of some help
Look forward to being more active in this great community of awesome developers!

[Q] How do you change the default camera app?

I just downloaded a new camera app, how do I make it open when I press the camera button?
What camera app?
Vignette. I'm trying to figure out a way to make it open when I press the camera button. Any ideas?
Ditto for camera 360.
Much better then stock app. It is set as default, but does not really function as the default - and not just the from the button.
Any new info on making another camera app function as the default including the ability to use the dedicated camera button?
If this is not currently possible, would the ability to add this functionality come from an update by the camera app people, or would this be something the devs might work on adding?

I don't know about changing the default app for the camera button, but it's definitely possible to map the button to shutter from within an app. Retro camera has an option to select a hardware key for shutter, I have it working with the camera button.
Sorry to rehash an old thread, but I have the exact same question as the OP and was hoping that someone had found a solution in the last few months.

Can't find this app - looks like it was removed...? Can anyone point me to the app, or suggest an alternative for getting the side cam button to point to a non-stock camera app?
Bump...I still haven't been able to find the button shortcut app anywhere. Could someone who has it post the apk? Or is there another way to remap the camera button now?
To me, that sounds like the current rom doesn't have that option. When I had the MIUI rom, I was able to change the default camera to camera360.

............. why are you bringing up such an old thread again??
I don't see your reply anything of helpful?
because this thread was brought up while I was doing a Google search for changing my camera button default(application shortcut) and it so happens if it wasn't for this thread I may have not known about button shortcut.apk as someone here mentioned then several people here claimed they could not locate. so if someone else google searched the same issue at least they come to a solution. and not just a bunch of people claiming they don't know what to do. who cares if its old you bumped the thread with such a useless post? what's the point in that.

[Update 9/19] MIUI camera v17 & Gallery for CM7 & Blur builds

This is still a WIP, camera is100% working so is video.
I added the Miui gallery apk to the list. I can confirm it works on CM7 as of now. If someone wants to test on stock blur builds let me know the outcome.
I see a lot of people complaining about the stock CM7 gallery so giver a shot.
If you get a chance THANK Mongoosehelix for his hard work. I just brought the app to our table but he is the one doing all the hard work!!!
Hopefully this modified version he has will work. MIUI cam is by far my favorite.
My girlfriend has an Inspire running CM7. When I put CM7 on her phone she was greatly disappointed in the stock CM7 camera app. I put the MIUI cam app on her Inspire and she loves it. I have to admit the app is great and has alot of great functions that most ROM cameras dont.
The MIUI cam offers a few options the droid 3 cam does not ie: Burst mode, anti shake, and a nice quick continuous auto focus. I have been playing with them side by side and i have to say the MIUI cam seems to do a better job overall. Images seem richer and a tad crisper.
The app needs a little DEV TLC still, but all camera functions working. Video works, just not sure of its resolution.
I am not a dev and I just like to play around try to get things working that dont lol. Well this worked out of the box to my surprise. Give it a shot and report back what you think.
If you have both the droid 3 and miui installed you have to back out of the app not just hit home or either cam app icon will revert to one last used, unless you back out then you can go back and forth. No FC or errors.
Focus tone still exists when long pressing picure button. Mute for the shutter tone works on CM7. Blur builds require the build.prop edit below.
Blur build shutter tone removal build.prop edit---
#ro.media.capture.shuttertone=
MIUICamfixed.apk--->http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24110240/Camera.apk
MIUIgallery.apk---->MIUI Gallery
I'm not getting it to work, I downloaded the apk and installed, made sure that I backed out of the stock camera and killed it another time, but miui camera still force closes.
Sorry wrong files, Links fixed.
Forgot to mention I'm also on Alien 4, fixed permissions through ROM Manager the first time, didn't work, tried through CWM, didn't work either, still force closing.

The video is being saved as a 3gp so no, but i am sure a clever dev out there can tweak this working MIUI cam to do more with the atrix hardware, but tahts outta my league. I think the only benefit in its current state is just the added picture options for the camera. I havent had anytime to work on this any further as i am at work and already doing stuff i shouldnt be doing lol.
can you change where the images are stored?
Its for picking the location you wish to store the files, but considering this isnt designed for our hardware it doesnt know what to do i think. By default it saves to internal DCIM folder. There are still a few minor bugs to work out, but for the most part all camera functions are working. I hope a dev can take this and build upon it to make it 100% functional, it will stay as is for the next day or two. Im off 3 days in a row so that will give me time to dive into the inner workings and tweak it a little.
I wanted to get this out so others with a little more know how could improve it before my slow ass can get to it. I just wanted to share because i think its one of the best camera apps out there.
Just for ****s and giggles I tried it on cm7 pb3 it opens and I can see the whole ui set up and when I click to take a picture it flashes but doesn'tsave the picture(exact same thing with stock cm7 camera at the moment) so hopefully when thise wrinkles get ironed out mui camera should work for cm7 also. *crosses fingers*

Yup thats the same wall i got too with it as well, i then decided its something to do with CM7 and hardware. Its there and working as an app in CM7 just cant access the hardware completely or something along those lines
I like it, but I can't get it to turn off the shutter sound.
as soon as my apt-get update completes on webtop, i'll reboot and test it out on Aura 1.1.3 Build 8 Debloat.
I already have it transferred to system/apps and have fixed permissions, will report back shortly

installed great on Aura, i just plopped the .apk into system/apps
as with the others, shutter tone would not silence, no option to choose storage location, other than that i love it, might be a keeper
Works great on aura. I downloaded the .apk and simply installed it with the package installer! It even saves the picture size that you last selected. Forget the droid one, I like this one.

I'm glad the the v17_Fixed2 version is working pretty well for you all and if you want to install it using a flashable zip, follow the link in my sig. Also, I'm curious if the v17_TEST1 version I posted HERE works any better for the Atrix. Other phones have been able to switch to and use their FFC as well with TEST1.

For now - this problems really deep inside. Video system in android 4 changed mostlly.
Wow, I knew that you wouldn't abandon us.
Edit: Just loaded it up. Really fast. Obviously, a lot of problems but nevertheless, really good start.
No market?
No wifi?
And an error kept popping up, in part english, part Korean, at every new screen, stating it will eliminate something.
So glad to have you back

It's awesome & sweet, man!
I was tried with CM9 but no luck and have not much time to play around with it. Now you are back with it, that great!
Thumb up & keep great working.
I will try it soon
Tried, and this is my experiences:
Good things:
- Speed is incredible fast with many apps I installed on last CM7.X
- Wifi, 3G works
- Home button not work (cannot go home by pressing Home button) EDITED: Home button is go with different behavior compared with GingerBread, so press & hold it to see list of recent & running app, this way it work for me
and many things work as expected.
and Bad things:
- Screen rotation is not work well: look it start to work but mostly forced in landscape mode (in launcher, app) some time it go portrait for dialing screen, error message ... I was unchecked auto rotation options but not help.
- Call not work for me, it go end nearly immediate after I press call.
- SMS not work, EDITED: work after reboot, may it has blocked by some overload operations.
- Net monitor through some exceptions due: /proc/net/xt_qtaguid/stats not exist, we need kernel module for this stuff.
- Cam not work (of course )
I don't see where to customize Cyanogen such as fast switch widget on notification bar, look like we are missing Cyanogen Settings
I have problem with IO schedule in CM7 and was remove dalvik-cache from list of app2ext startup script and it solved 50% of mine. I used `lsof` to see what's going to use /sdcard & /sd-ext and see that almost operations come from background apps like launcher, theme. I think we should avoid to use bind mount to SD's ext partition to get better speed. Also use `vmstat` command will see sometime 1-3 applications block IO process and it will cause IO wait almost full (about > 90).
Anyone face problem like me? and what's solution you guys was used to solve it?
Will try to tweak it and fix some buggy if possible, keep the good work guys!
I see some have offered to help with cm9 but I'm dispointed in these forms .
The first thing thats needs to be fixed are sensors.
The camera will be the hardest to fix.
I believe the defry has the same sensors as our xt can someone do a port for are xt.
The worked good for me but their seems to be battery drain.
I would like to see some team work on this cm9.
Thanks J.Y.Daddy for your help.

Anyone know the way to let android force display in portrait mode?
Currently sensors not work correctly then it always go landscape mode, it is weir.
I tried some prop in but no luck.
About sensors I tried one from CM-7.1 but no luck, look like ICS using different stuff for use sensors then fix in framework may help but I don't have time to check it out.

Un-check the box for: Settings --> Display --> Auto-Rotate Screen
Unless....of course....that is being overwritten by something in CM9.
I tried it already, unchecked auto rotate option in display setting & Trebuchet but no luck.

ICS changed the camera API significantly. I don't think anyone's figured out how to use the older libraries yet. Non-functioning camera is pretty common at the moment.
We really to find a fix for the sensors first then fix other things.

For camera, AFAIK we need to write a new kernel module for it as ICS is using HAL then we must have:
- /system/lib/modules/camera.ko
- /system/lib/hw/camera.sholes.so
EDITED: I've just tried with hw/camera.goldfish.so & camera.ko from MS2 then Camera app just loaded with colored box pinging, at least it not show "Cannot connect to Camera" message

An issue I dealt with:
I had the trebuchet_fix.zip installed and set to 7x8, and after installing the camera fix, I noticed that my bottom row of icons disappeared. I checked out the launcher homescreen settings, and realized that it was set to 7x7 and I was unable to edit these values.
I simply reinstalled the trebuchet_fix again to get my column and row functionality back. I'm not sure why the camera fix edited these values, possibly due to the sizing of the camera image in the app, but I don't see the correlation.

Very odd, I don't see why it would do that. Maybe make the permission for trebuchet rx rx rx?and then try flashing the unofficial cm9 w/camera over the Rom you're using.
All I did when I tried this was flash the Rom over the original cm9 and saw no issues besides what is listed in the op.

I tried to build the libcamera from sources but I was missing some proprietary headers to make it compiling and both Qualcomm and Code Aurora Forum didn't even answered my questions so I had to use the binary driver and do some tricks in kernel driver and ICS wrapper to workaround problems and make it working

The trebuchet_fix.zip overwrites some values in Trebuchet app. When you have installed my ROM the Trebuchet has been overwritten and you had to reapply the patch. When you will install an official nightly you would have to reapply the patch too.

[Q] Camera Activity is not responding

I'm running CM7.2 with the stock CM kernel and no CPU tweaks.
About a week ago my camera just up and stopped working, "Activity camera (in application camera) is not responding". All the screen does is turn black, no camera controls with a black square where the viewfinder should be, simply a full black screen.
At the time I assumed that it was because I had been on airplane mode, and had then disabled airplane mode while having spotty coverage. I got back to civilization and rebooted the phone, and it did not help. Then I cleared the data for both the camera and the gallery, no luck.Google-ing around a bit I came across a thread, on xda, that suggested clearing the files from /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/. I did so, but the camera still locks up. I also found a thread the suggested to delete all of the pictures in /sdcard/DCIM/. I moved them all off the SD card and onto my computer. At this point I assumed I hosed something low level up, and resorted to a full wipe and re-install. This didn't work either. At this point I'm beginning to suspect that this is a hardware related failure.
Anyone have any suggestions of things to try? Is there a way to get debug messages from the camera app?
Sounds like you've been pretty thorough
You could try logcat. Not sure about debug. Anybody?
Have you tried a different Rom, or 3rd party camera app
