[Q] How to deodex .605 - Droid X General

I am trying to figure out how to deodex stock gingerbread .605. I am already rooted and have past experience flashing zips, roms, etc. I went back to stock because I was having problems with just about every rom I installed. I could not find a tutorial for .605 specifically so I was hoping that someone could help me out.
Thanks guys

The manual de-odexing method detailed in the DX themes section still works. I just did mine using xUltimate v2.3.3. You need to have a grasp of what the linux commands do though so you can handle anything unexpected. On mine, I ran out of room copying the framework jar files back so I deleted the odex files then retried it.
I also found a deodexer zip that works with CWM v2.x but not later versions because the script language being used is amend which was deimplemented after Froyo. I might convert it to edify if enough ppl are interested. google "4.5.605 deodexer" for the link at mydroidworld.com.
edit:
If you get deodexed and are interested in the two other zip files there (one gives the stock 605 rom the CRT off effect and the other does that and also eliminates the dual-unlock screen when you have a lock method going) then ping me for the edify versions. I'm using them on mine currently.

All-In-One Auto-Root Script

I made this for all the people that seem to be having issues with rooting their phone, installing the recovery partition, and installing the new rom.
This is an all-in-one package. It's about 200MB. Includes the original root rom, recovery image, the new rom (2.1OTA rom that was just released today), as well as a few extras. It's a batch script to automate the entire process.
Here's the README file:
Code:
These are automated scripts to root your Eris phone with Android 1.5 (NOT 2.1 LEAK!!!!!)
YOU NEED THE ANDROID SDK IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK!
If you don't have the SDK working, visit guide on the forums for instructions.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Unzip this file to your \tools\ directory of your Android SDK. Then run one of the following files:
install_root.bat
------------------------
This script will do the following:
1) Install the root image onto your phone
2) Install the recovery partition onto your phone
3) Install the current rom using the recovery partition
install_extras.bat
------------------------
This script will do the following:
1) Install live wallpapers
2) Install the Nexus Launcher
3) Install the Nexus photo gallery
4) Remove HTC Lockscreen
5) Install wireless tethering
NOTE!
------------------------
1) NOT ALL LIVE WALLPAPERS YOU FIND IN THE MARKET WILL WORK!
2) You cannot use the Nexus photo gallery when in the Nexus Launcher, it will crash
These scripts were put together by GrdLock.
Credit for all of the included files goes to ivan, amon, jcase, and everyone else
who chipped in!
Install this by unzipping it into your \tools\ directory of your Android SDK, then run install_root.bat.
I'm not running Windows so I didn't test this, but I proof read it like 10 times, and I'm 99.99% sure it should work 100%. If anyone gets any errors using it, post and I'll fix them immediately. Make sure USB debugging is turned on before running it.
You can download the whole package here: http://www.multiupload.com/Y7UC8UU2JE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If you just want the 2.1OTA rooted rom, you can download that here: http://www.multiupload.com/YP1BIUOF60 (this rom includes busybox, the otacert fix, and a few other minor things)
I also put together an update. This will update you to the new 2.1 OTA leak "official" without wiping. Wipe your dalvik and that's it. Do a nand backup first though just incase! http://www.multiupload.com/3OPZCD6NRA

Yes, I built the otacert fix into the rom.
Thanks for all your work grid, and all the others that have worked on this. Just got a new refurb the other day and was going to tackle rooting this weekend, gonna make the task so much easier.
Can you please explain what was fixed? Thanks again for your work.
The current rom is a rooted rom using the new 2.1 leak that was just released today, which is SUPPOSEDLY the "official" 2.1 update from Verizon.
What setting should be used for the phone, HTC Sync, USB, Mount SD, or nothing?
Nothing. Just connect it to your USB, and enable USB debugging. Don't mount your sdcard.
Does the market work now?
(I recall hearing that the market wouldn't work because of the test/dev certificate that was in the leaked rom)
The market will work if it doesnt work now, itll work when the OTA comes out.
Grd, this looks fantastic. I've been patient so far, and haven't upgraded to the leaked or original rooted 2.1 builds, but with the news of the latest one (and initial reports saying that it's mostly bug-free), I'm ready to take the plunge. This should be a huge help to me.
A couple of questions:
Does the big package (the 200MB one) include jcase's ROM (bare-bones basic), or yours with the tweaks? I ask because you mentioned removing pdfviewer, which I use.
Also, has anyone else gone through this process yet? Call me timid, but I'm not too keen on being the first one.

It includes my rom. You should be able to restore pdfviewer if you need it though. I can post the files in a bit.
Great. I was pretty sure that the apps could be reinstalled if needed, but wanted to confirm. I'm downloading the package now, so I'll keep you updated. I'm pretty excited about this, since I'm still at stock 1.5.
Issues, Well first It copied the PB image fine, it didnt reboot the phone i had to manually do it with vol -, now im on step two installing amons image, it transfers but it cant start files\flash_image, no such file or directory and then it cant chmod it cause its not there.
Could you copy/paste the command prompt text you're seeing? (you gotta right-click the cmd window and select Mark)
Installing Amon's Recovery Image.
1545 KB/s (3926016 bytes in 2.480s)
cannot stat 'files\flash_image': No such file or directory
Unable to chmod /system/bin/flash_image: No such file or directory

Finished
Your phone will now reboot and test the recovery partition.
Press any key to continue . . .
Ahh, crap...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/obtx2w
Download that file, put it in the \tools\files\ directory, then try again and let me know.
I think I got delete-happy removing some temp files and deleted flash_image by accident.
Worked great
I just went through the install.bat file and everything worked 100% just as promised. I have not installed any of the extras yet. Thanks for the great work!
flash_image was it worked a treat its in amon_ra now was trying manually and came across it missing, went to post it and you had just now
One suggestion before letting adb copy the 2.1 rooted img to the phone have it delete the PB so users dont accidently click on it. Just a lil cleanup to help things out. So far its flashing 2.1 rooted I will let you know about the first error, ill go back through it again and get it to recreate.

[ROM] Deodexed rom with root

Thanks to anomalous3 over on the vibrant forum he was nice enough to port over his rom to our side based off of the new source code released by samsung
"If you feel like being a guinea pig, or know anyone who does, the deodexed build is here:
http://getyourboneon.com/CaptivateDeodexed.zip
Since I don't have a captivate I can't really test it, but it should work fine. It's based off that UCJH2 build. I didn't include any lag fixes since they've proliferated out of control, but I did include ext manipulation libraries and e2fsck to make life easier for people who want to use one of the lag fixes."
Please note I have NOT tested this rom yet, I don't have my captivate. Please somebody could test this and let us know if there's any problem so we can let him help us fix it.
Again, not responsible for whatever happens to your phone.
Here is the original thread I posted for reference.

EDIT: I'm going to assume you would install this like any other rom via update
EDIT2: anomalous3 has updated the link with corrections. Let us know how it works
Well... since I can't seem to get enough of abusing my phone, guess I'll give this a whirl =P
And I have JH2, So I suppose that makes me a good candidate

Wait a sec, what does deodexed mean? I looked it up and it means no oxded files, but i don't know what those files are...
damn it, wish this was around 2 hours ago when i was bored! its too late now to ruin my phone haha.. tomo sometime maybe i'll try..
Question...Do I have to install the stock Captivate ROM first as it states in the linked post? I have the stock ROM that is rooted with the AT&T bloatware removed. The only other mod is the lagfix version 2.3...Can I just flash this over that?
you should be able to, according to his original thread on the vibrant forums, the directions were to put on internal sd card and load via clockwork best method. or via recovery mode works too

That's what's taking me so long... seems like JH2 is having some issues with update.zips... namely it's getting to the "Opening installer" then "Install Aborted". The(not new) update.zip for root still works, so I'm tossing on clockwork to see if I can get this thing crammed on here with that.
Installing from Clockwork:
Hoses up during the copying files stage
E:Can't symlink /system/bin/bugreport
E:Failure at line 5:
symlink dumpstate SYSTEM:bin/bugreport
Then install aborts

That's because the capitvate uses a different independent bugreport that is not a symlink of dumpstate.
Simply edit the update script in the meta folder and remove that line.
I deodexed the actual captivate files the other day, just havnt tested/posted them, way too busy with school

-From googling, found on XDA:
Deodexed ROMs have their .apk's (which are basically the application packages) repackaged in a certain way. An "odex" can be thought of as a collection of parts of applications that have been pulled out and optimized before booting. This speeds up the boot process - in a way, it preloads part of the applications - but it also makes hacking those apps difficult because part of the original code is already extracted somewhere else.
Deodexing is just a process of putting those pieces back into the original applications. It takes a while to extract those parts and build the .dex cache (aka Dalvik cache), but only because the relevant parts aren't in an easy-to-access place for the system. The advantage of this is that an app can be modified effectively and the developer doesn't have to worry about conflicts from the separate odex part of the code.
So, short version: "Deodexed" ROMs have all their apps put back together. If an app can be themed, for example, a deodexed version of that app will not get messed up when the modified .apk tries to mesh with the odex of the original un-modified .apk. Because it's not there.
If you want an aftermarket theme, you need a deodexed ROM. I'm not sure if deodexing can be done to individual apps within a non-deodexed ROM.

Good catch on that one Yeah, it surprised me that a lot of the stuff in the captivate doesn't rely on toolbox either. I might even port that over to the Vibrant since I think that toolbox is a stupid vestigial substitute for busybox anyways. Link updated, let me know if it works.

[Q] DSP Manager conversion request

Hi all,
Attached is the DSP manager for Villain Rom, when i try to install it on my sense desire 2.2 (Starburst) its giving parse error
is there anyone who can modify this for android 2.2, this version of DSP has enhanced functionality which we dont get with prior versions
any help is appreciated
regards
H
The DSPManager must be installed as systemapp afaik.
Either you put it into a flashable zip or push it with adb or copy it to system/app with root explorer and S-OFF
mate i have already got a DSP manager installed. I just want to replace it with this one.
Being it made for android 2.3 its not compatible with android 2.2
as i have no clue about development of android i hoped someone here could recompile this APK to be compatible for android 2.2
Don't know if it will work for you, but I edited the minSDKversion from 9 to 8 in AndroidManifest.xml.
thanks mate, i will check and let u know if this works
cheers for the effort
regards
H
it works mate, thanks a billion...
is there a possibility for you to show me how this can be done. perhaps a link to tutorial.
thanks again for your help.

There may be other software dependencies that it relies on to function properly. If that isn't the reason, then you could try clearing the apps data/cache in settings-applications-manager applications and seeing what that does.
If you would still like to know what I did to make it work, I could write a quick guide later today of what I did.
I would like to know how you made it work, since I want to use it on my LG Optimus 2X but when I install the apk I got from the cyanogen CM7 .zip for another phone it doesn't work...
I think theres one more file for the cyanogen DSPmanager.
system\lib\soundfx\libcyanogen-dsp.so
Read from an Oxygen thread post that you need to put that file in too.
I have both .apk and .so files on my Desire with Oxygen and it works.
im using oxygen 2.0.3 and i would love the dsp manager, what files are required.....??
To make it work with froyo, I used apktool on the apk, then I opened up the AndroidManifest.xml with PSPad, I edited the android:targetSdkVersion to be 8 instead of 9 (8 is the SDK version for froyo), then I recompiled the apk with apktool, signed, and pushed/installed on the phone.
In the DSPManager.apk from CM7.0.0, you need to edit the line android:minSdkVersion to be 8.
I have no way of testing this (as I am using CM7 RC4 and do not feel like installing a froyo ROM or a ROM without DSPManager), but it has the .so file mentioned above and the DSPManager.apk from CM7.0.0. Flash the file in recovery, if for some reason it will not flash, then push the files with adb or use root explorer and set the permissions.
Code:
adb remount
adb push libcyanogen-dsp.so /system/lib/soundfx/libcyanogen-dsp.so
adb push DSPManager.apk /system/app/DSPManager.apk
adb shell reboot
http://bit.ly/gLGIxj
Let me know whether or not this works.
flashing the zip, the phone would freeze at the bootloader, but pushing the files it works a treat thank you so much, i can finally make use of my headphones.......
Well it seems we might be getting closer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12884327#post12884327
Has someone tested this yet? Someone uploaded the latest one with an edited .so file. Maybe someone can test if this works on 2.2.2. LG Optimus X2 without patched libaudioflinger.so?
Kind regards,

[MOD] Uncapped Data - Gingerbread 4.5.588 Deodexed - Now flashable via Clockwork

I edited services.jar that came with the newest Gingerbread 4.5.588 deodexed system to disable data throttling.
Tested and works, though you may want to make a backup of your services.jar file first. I take no responsibility if you screw up your phone
(Make sure you're running deodexed system)
Instructions:
1. Place zip file in root of sdcard.
2. Boot into clockwork.
3. Install zip from sdcard.
4. Choose the zip on your card.
5. Reboot.
Note: You MAY have to mount system first. I know in the past people have ran into that problem. I personally did not have to mount system.
Enjoy!
This does not work ....
It absolutely does work. Feel free to decompile the .dex file yourself to see if the throttling files are still intact and compare it against the .dex decompile of stock. Or maybe you could post WHY you think it doesnt work instead of just stating that it doesnt.

Were you trying to flash it in recovery? If so then it will not work. There are also two other ways to do this. You can extract the file and replace your services.jar file in root explorer or you could use the commands provided (without the adb) in the app terminal emulator.
To the developer, thank you for making this but if someone says it doesn't work, you do not need to get mad at them. That will keep others away from downloading your files
No I followed the directions step by step and i replaced it via Root Explorer restarted and all it does is do a large freezeup. I tried this twice and all you get is a freezeup on restart. In return all I got out of this is a SBF Flash twice back to 4.5 and deodoxed again -.-
Im not mad in the slightest. Im here to help. Unfortunately its very hard to help with so little details. "It doesnt work" doesnt help everyone else.
Now, Im not sure whats going on with his particular issues, but I can guarantee it does work. Im running it now on my own personal device and have tested it on 3 other Droid X's running 4.5.588 deodexed. The services.jar file came straight from P3Droid's deodexed update.zip. The throttling files were removed and I packaged up the file.
To the person having issues: are you absolutely sure youre deodexed? Are you using P3Droid's deodexed update? Did you attempt using the adb commands and if so did you receive any errors? I will say, I have not tried this with root explorer so I cant predict the outcome, though it shouldn't work any differently than adb.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ive never made an update.zip file before, but maybe Ill look into packaging it that way and see if he can have any luck with that.
Edit: Just packaged it into flashable zip. See first post.

Yes I used p3droids new deodexed for 4.5.588 then applied the services.jar in the framework folder did a restart and got big freeze. I haven't got a chance to do the adb push ... I will try that when I get home tonight.
Thanks GC14 for this!!! I am still on the original GB deodex rooted leak. Do you have, or is there an uncapped data service.jar for that release? thanks
Im not sure, but I can just patch that one too and upload it if you want.

If you don't mind that would be awesome.

P3droid recently posted a fix for his deodexed leak that fixed fc issues by making it slightly oxdexed and slightly deodexed, will this work with it?
Depends if services.jar is odexed or deodexed. Open up his new build and check to see if services.odex and services.jar are both inside /system/framework. That would mean it's odexed.
does the OS need to be deodexed for uncapped mod to work?
Did you use Clockwork for DX or D2? I have Clockwork for DX installed but can never boot into it.
Disable USB Debugging and then try DX Clockwork.

[REQUEST] 4.5.x /data files

I am attempting to apply an update of stock amazon 4.5.3 on apollo and there are three files being symlinked that are missing from my 3.2.3.2 device. Can anyone be so kind as to provide the following three files?
/data/misc/DxHDCP.cfg
/data/misc/audio/wcd9320_mad_audio.bin
/mnt/sqfs/fonts
The last one is a folder, so if someone could provide the folder and its contents recursively, that would be most helpful.
I don't have an Apollo so can't directly help with your request. However, I believe you need to be at 3.2.6 before upgrading to Sangria vs flashing a complete image. Maybe it's just those 3 files but could be others or different versions of identically named files. Smarter people in these forums can correct if I misspoke.

I greatly appreciate the tips!! However, the time I have to mess with the device is quite random. I ended up having a problem restoring a backup and had to format the data, sdcard, etc partitions. I did have the backup also stored on a separate drive, so I got back up and running on a 'close to stock', rooted, xposed, gapps, etc 14.3.2.3.2 version. From there I went ahead and tried to update all but the bootoader to 14.3.2.6. This was successful and so I backed that up. Then I went ahead and re-tried the .zip you had posted for 14.4.5.2, and sure enough it flashed great. So, I am enjoying this fireos with unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, root, and gapps. I am sure I will try cm11, cm12, and aosp lolli as they come out, but for now, things are quite glorious with this device.
The devs around here (you included) are doing amazing things with this stuff. I really appreciate the teaching moments you guys (and gals) share too. What a great community.
