Anyone have any idea why this would be? I have a slingbox classic which isn't "supported" for use with the android app. The same version of the app works great in Froyo, but not in Eclair or Gingerbread versions of android?
How far are you getting in the app? It is working just fine for me with an old slingbox pro (i think, it has 1 component input). It could be a slingbox solo. Anyway, i just reinstalled the app to test it on GB and no problems. It is listed as version 1.0.

When I try to connect over 3G/4G it says "connecting" then "starting" but never connects. I get a "Connection Failed. Please make sure your phone and Slingbox are connected to the internet." However, if I switch back to Eclair, it works fine.
Also of note, if I use local WiFi (same network as my Slingbox is on) it works fine. Slingbox works remotely via laptop on any other network so it is not the configuration of the slingbox for an internet connection that is the problem.
I have been using slingplayer since eclair through froyo, gb, and now CM7 with no issues.
I just got off of Wifi and still works fine on 3g. Again, i am using version 1.0 if that matters.
My phone details:
ACS ICS 5.5 (GB EI22)
EI22 Modem
Samurai 2.0.8
BML/RFS

Thanks for the input guys... I think the key though is are you running with the slingbox classic? You can tell if you are because it's the only one this ugly:
http://sale.images.woot.com/Sling_Media_SlingBox_Classic0elDetail.jpg
I am running slingbox 1.0 as well tinslwc, and also tried upgrading to the latest version (1.3 I believe)
It's an issues several others have had as well with the classic:

I rooted my Fascinate, mostly to be able to WiFi tether it for my laptop and the Kindle I'm getting soon.
I've tried WiFi Android Tether app, Barnacle, and Barnacle Legacy.
The Barnacle App would give me an error along the lines of "Can't find eth0", then Barnacle Legacy(previous version) app did not give me an error but the laptop will just say "Connecting" then never actually connect.
I have the same problem with the WiFi Android Tether App where it keeps "Connecting" but never connects.
I don't think it is my laptop because I never have a problem connecting to any other WiFi...
I've looked everywhere but I can't find any help!!

Almost sounds like you're not fully rooted. Do you see the Superuser app in your app list? Also, did these apps ever prompt you to allow root access?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
yes
yes to superuser app.
the ADB prog says i am rooted
other root progs like SETCPU work
and the root progs ask for superuser permissions and i can set them
Look in General forum and for confirmed working widow tether. I use widow tether daily on mine. Works great. Have a nice day
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Ive tried that exact one, computer wont connect.ive even tried pre12
I've tried quite a few different apps to no avail, but tried pre9 tonight and it appears to be working nicely.
I must be missing something, cause I'm a noob, but what is widow tether & where can I get it? Tried 2 barnacles & 3 wifi tethers with no success.

You need to use the wireless tether 2.0.5 pre9, not the latest version.
That one works 100%.
Newest ones don't. This is already covered somewhere in the stickies.

i am using Pre9. Thats the one I was originally using when the problem occured.
I'm using wireless tether pre11 right not and so far so good. I kept getting an issue where wireless tether would work for a short time (about 1 to 2 MB of data) and then would hang. pre11 is working good so far without this issue. give it s shot. you can always drop back to an older version.
I'm having the same problem, my Vista laptop sees the network and won't connect, my wife's Windows 7 netbook will connect now problem, so I know the phone is working right, it has to be something with Vista 64

I've had no problems with pre11...I've only used it a few times, but I did stream an entire episode on Hulu on my desktop and it worked without a hitch. I am on OSX.
FWIW, I happened to root & installl barnacle last night on my Fascinate. Barnacle worked happily once I made sure that A)Superuser automatically allows barnacle permissions and B) Skip wpa_supplicant was checked. I've only had an hour or two of testing, but no glitches.
Info: SCH-I500[RKAVZW] - i500.04, 2.1-update1, 2.6.29
Barnacle: Encryption: Off Access Control: unchecked, Ch:1 Custom Wifi Ad-hoc: none, Skip wpa_supplicant: checked, pp0, eth0, DHCP: 1200s lease, NAT 32000, 300, 100, 30, 90
I use Easy Tether and it works flawlessly.
Not sure exactly what is going on with your issue...however FWIW:
Any build of Wireless Tether would cut out on me occasionally - it wouldn't drop connection permanently, but rather for several seconds.
I use tethering to play online games that require a constant stream of data. Barnacle Wifi Tether Legacy works flawlessly. Never lose connection.
Are we looking at a fluke kernel issue with the OP's question?
I have tried all of these options and can't get any to work. The only thing that does is the stock hotspot app I reprogrammed from a thread here. How are you getting this to work? Do I need to remove the vzw hotspot app first?

Barnacle (did not try legacy) is also more stable for me than wireless tether pre9/11/12
I have a rooted Epic running 2.2.1. I installed a wifi tether program and ran it. Everyone can see it and logon except for my Acer 1810t netbook. I have tried everything I know but cant get it to connet to the wifi. Any input would be appreciated

Go to the wifi tether google code page and download the latest beta. Your netbook wont see ad-hoc, so you need wifi tether 3.0

I have a 1410 and it connects to Wifi Tether 3.0 release 10 without issues on stock EB13 rooted.
Thanks for the input. I have tried 3 different tethering programs, barnacle, wifi, etc and none of them work. I guess i will jsut have to be happy with PD Net for the time being. There is just something about this laptop. It sees the adhoc netowrk it just won't connect to it.

when you tried Android-wifi-tether you probably tried the stable version..not the beta...download the beta here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_0-pre11.apk&can=2&q=
it should work...
I used Odin to put the phone back to stock. then I flashed the ROM to 2.2.1. Then I used one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip to root the device. I then downloaded the file from the link above and installed WiFi Tether and it starts up. then I have both the WiFi Tether icon and an additional Hot Spot icon then the phone just freezes. Does it have to be ext4? I am a noob but learning.
Update: Went back ind rooted with clockwork 3.0.0.6 and converted to ext4 and changed the config to Samsung and it seems to be working.
The app wireless tether does not work for me anymore. It says wireless tether has started with errors. I check the log and many things failed such as setting channel, setting essid, setting ad-hoc mode, and activating wifi interface. How can I get this to work? Running CM7 with the HDMI kernel.
Same here. I tried to reinstall and it doesn't work. I'm using UD and Myn's.
doesn't work on cm7 with savage zen either
no errors but nothing will see it when scanning
The only thing I have got to work is Barnacle..and also the built in hot spot works well too.
I've been having the same issue. Barnacle works but that only does an adhoc network, so my PS3 and Kindle won't connect to it
Works fine on my stock 2.2 Evo. Just used it today.

I had the same problem, but I was able to get it working with version 2.08-pre1 ***Experimental***. The latest version did not work for me on CM7 nightly, and the native one didn't work either, but the version above works like a charm!
Native one works perfect for me on CM7 build 22.
Works great on ava z3 rom for 3g as for 4g I have to use the green tether or i get the you have not subscribed to this service call sprint like yea I'm gonna pay to use 4g and kill my battery

go into rom manager and choose fix permissions.. bingo!
if that doesnt work check wifi settings and make sure that you dont already have a preinstalled tethering app ( some newer roms like destroyer have this built in )
Try a different kernel

I am using an Evo 4g rooted with CM7. I use the wireless tether to browse the internet and whatnot. Now it was working just fine yesterday, but today for some reason its a pain in the ass getting a page to come up. My data seems fine on the phone, not slowed down anymore than usual. I continually get "Server not found" errors. The only page I can load with any consistency seems to be Facebook (85% of the time) and Bing (loads everytime) I tried accessing Google Voice and it only works maybe one out of ten loads. Everything in device is working fine and nothing has been changed. The only repair error windows has given me is the "windows can't find the usual server microsoft.com" thing and that was once.
I couldn't find anything searching that was really relevant... anyone have this happen?
I've also reset both the phone and laptop pulling batteries in both. Reset my data connection... reset my wireless card.
This sucks.

Wifi didnt work for me on my laptop with CM7. it could not connect at all, but it could connect to everything else(kindle, psp, xbox) and no body seems to know how to solve the issue. AOSP builds can be unstable apparently so I chose to stick to optimized Evo-Sense ROMs and their stability, wifi tether etc works fine on these.
Its a problem in the way the aosp roms are built. Sense works fine tho. Are you using the wireless tether app or using the tether baked into the rom? Because if your using the app then there is a fix for it. You will have to give me a second to find the thread tho as I am on my evo...

Weird, this has been happening to me today as well. WORKED PERFECTLY yesterday, data & everything is fine on the phone, but tethering has issues.
Has anyone had any luck tethering their Tab 10.1 to an Android phone running Cyanogen Mode 7?
I am able to get tether my Tab to every ROM I've had so far except for CM7.
I've tried Barnacle, WiFi Tether 3, the Hotspot setting under CM7. Nothing works with the Tab.
Keeps saying 'Obtaining IP address ...' but never connects.

hmmm... Mine works beautifully. There is a wifi tethering option built into CM7, and when i turn it on the tablet is able to connect and it all works well. I am on a SGT 10.1 Wifi tethered to a Mytouch 4G if that helps.
Oh..forgot to mention that I'm using an HTC Droid Incredible. That may help in troubleshooting.

Finally able to connect.
I was trying to use WiFi Tether 3.0, because that was on the only app that worked prior to installing CM7 on my phone.
It seemed to no longer work for me using CM7.
I tried Barnacle Tether app, but still had no luck.
Wireless Tether 2.0.7 was the app I was using in the past, but my Tab wouldn't connect to it because it was using ad-hoc
I decided to give it a shot, since I had no luck with the other apps.
For some reason Wireless Tether 2.0.7 works fine with the Tab while running CM7 on my phone.

Did you test to see if any other device besides your Tab could connect to your hotspot? It doesn't sound like the Tab was the problem.
Wireless Tether was the app I was always using to tether. I was running stock SenseUI rooted. After getting my tab, I noticed that it would not connect like all my other devices would. Someone told me about WiFi Tether 3 Experimental, it worked. Something to do with the Tab not being able to connect in ad-hoc mode.
Once I installed CM7, it no longer worked. I tried Barnacle while running CM7. My netbook connected, but my Tab didn't for some reason. I then decided to go back to my old app, Wireless Tether, to see if it would work, and it did.
This is the same app that wouldn't connect to my Tab running SenseUI, but it connected fine running CM7.
The built-in one on CM7 is the best in my opinion, but in order for it to work you need to uninstall all the aftermarket ones and reboot. For some reason the aftermarket ones mess with the built-in one.
I agree that using Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Tethering is much nicer than any of the standalone apps.

Did a reboot, but still would not connect.
I will uninstall the aftermarket one to see if it will work.

Mine just work fine, but it does give me hard time in the office. It'll get connected for few seconds and then disconnect. It keeps doing the same thing. By the way, I'm using the Mosaic VI built for Captivate, that has inbuilt tethering as most custom roms have. Other than office place, it works absolutely fine even when I'm on commuter bus.

Uninstalling the aftermarket apps allowed the one for CM7 to connect. Is there a way to create a shortcut to enable it in CM7?
I have CM7.1 nightly 143 on my Evo and built in tethering works fine, I am even able to tether 4G.
Wireless Tether app used to work when I was on the stable version of CM7 but once I upgraded to RC1 WT stopped working and caused built in tether to not work as well.
Once I deleted WT then built in started working again.

That's interesting. I'm running CM7 nightly builds on my Captivate and paired it with the Tab via Bluetooth, turned off WiFi on the Tab and it instantly said Bluetooth tethered. (There is a larger BT icon on the Tab and the Captivate shows Portable Hotspot blue icon in the notification menu)
I was surprised with how seamless it all was, was pleasantly surprised by it because I was only pairing it to use TexTab and something possessed me to try turning the WiFi off.
still no luck tethering to the xoom ... any ideas?

You have to use the native tether hotspot to work with the Xoom. or you will need to modify the WPA file on the Xoom if you will be using any other tethering app that uses Ad-Hoc. If your using the Android tether app you'll need to choose the Facinate phone.
