[Q] I think my partitions are messed? - Atrix 4G General

My data partition likes to wipe itself every now and then (weekly). So I am thinking about using RSD to flash back an original stock rom (i know fruit cakes are close, but this is a different issue) in order to fix things i may have broke, and then go back to CM7.
Any suggestions or guides on how to do so? No one seems to have my problem, and no one really comes up with a solution.

Have you tried doing a full wipe/erase, reboot, then install the ROM again?
I would suggest:
Copy ROM to external SD card
Power off and remove SD card
Boot to CWM Recovery and full wipe
Power off
Insert SD card
Boot to CWM Recovery and install ROM from SD card.
Ive never personally had that problem, but give it a try. Also try a different ROM if that doesnt work. It may be a dodgy ROM.

[Q] Using ROM Manager to Partition External SD Card

So... I was trying to partition my external SD card for some ext3 action, and I went through ROM Manager. After booting me into recovery and repartitioning my "SD Card", I think it actually repartitioned my internal SD card because now my device won't boot and I'm trying to reimage through Odin. Has anyone done this yet? Am I screwed? I get through all of the boot animations but it seems to be hanging on the GalaxyS animation and then goes to a black screen but the onscreen keys are lighting up....
Should I try booting into recovery and wiping? During the Odin process it tries that, and it shows that the wipe fails in red. Is there any way to restore the internal SD card partitions to default?
Thanks! If I'm missing a sticky or thread somewhere else, let me know. I've been all over this forum since the device was released so I feel I'm fairly familiar with the processes involved.
It wiped the internal SD card and so I can't even get into ClockWork recovery or try to reset factory defaults.
Oh well. Lesson learned. If anyone else is thinking about doing this in ROM Manager, DONT. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. Took it to the store and they gave me a new one. It was doing some other funky stuff too, so I don't feel too bad.
Oh I just wrote the whole thread for fixing it

Corrupted SD Card Investigation

Hey guys,
With my SD card corrupted, If i put my 16GB microSD card in and flash I9000UGJG8 the phone boots, without any SD cards showing up, now here is what I am thinking.
1. Instead of flashing the stock I9000UGJG8, I am going to try a pre-rooted complete rom (2.1) using ODIN. Know of any?
2. Once I get the phone up and running with a pre-rooted Rom, repartition using linux / terminal / adb.
I need help doing the above as I am not an advanced linux users, anyone with this kind of knowledge willing to help me, perhaps we can help a lot of members in the community who have this issue.
yes, I know, I know all this has a chance provided it is not a hardware issue. I suspect its a software issue.
Ok Step one is done, heres how I did it.
1. Flash I9000UGJG8 using odin, before restart pull out EX SD manual copy Clockwork Recovery rename to update.zip also copy Tayutam's rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774950#)
2. Insert SD card into phone and boot to recovery, choose apply update.zip, phone boots to recover 2e again, select apply update.zip and you boot to CWM.
3. While in CWM choose apply .zip form sd and select Tayutam's.
4. Now I have booted into a rom with root.
Now to figure out step 2 help, please
I found this - http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
My friend has this problem and coudnt return the phone because he lost the receipt.
Just to check - you have /data but not /sdcard ? In this case, it can't be corrupt, it simply isn't formatted. This is easy to fix using parted.static binary.
This is only if you have a /data but not a /sdcard.
yes that is correct,
I have /data.
Can you help me format the /sdcard?

Just flash any good ROM via ODIN or Kies. It will be back. You might lose the data, I am not sure.

And explain how you did it. Might help others.
I bet you haven't made it a ntfs right? cos only the fat types would work as a filesystem.

Hers's how I do.
When I have a costom ROM installed, want THIS ROM, I put my phone into download mode, fire up Odin, select 512 pit, select reparation.
Just as its restarting, pull battery, again put into download & flash your ROM thru Odin, here no pit no repartition your pda, modem, csc, & you are thru
Hope it helps.
Is this the same issue when the phone still boots but gives the error message saying " Internal SD card Damage, Format required" ??
I had situation like most where phone would power off after the initial logo.
Now, I had a 8GB external microSD card which I used with the phone from the beginning ad added storage but have been removed since phone not booting up.
When I for whatever reason decided to put back the external microSD card in hope that maybe I can put the ROM file in there to flash to different ROM or something but I couldn't because in recovery mode, either internal or external sdcard would not mount.
But! when the external microSD card plugged in, I was able to fully boot the phone into the OS. (I tried both JG8 & JH2). But once it was booted into the OS, I would get a message in notification bar saying something about 'can not mount internal sdcard' or something, plus can't mount external sdcard either.
So the phone was working (to a limit) other than anything else that required sdcard storage.
I mean, I tried repartitioning from Odin and such and there was no difference. Same result.
Oh by the way, without the external microSD card, I was not able to do 3-button combo to get in to Recovery Mode but I could get in to Download Mode.
Only way to get in to Recovery Mode was to insert the external microSD card.
So at least you can fully boot into the OS. Mine does boot but I get a black screen. Right after the flash completes on first reboot, as soon as it hits the recovery menu, it fails to copy factory data over to the internal SD card and complains about not being able to mount the internal SD card. This seems to be a common problem to the non-international versions of the I9000 (specifically I9000M)?
Thanks ragin I will give you method a try and see what happens.
My friend's still does not work. Repartition or not, tried so many roms, still boots up but after the blank logo, it is just completely blank screen but the back button or menu button are lit when pressed. Even with an external microcard in, it still wont boot. I think the internal memory card is corrupted as indicated on the recovery mode
It says
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdate_media: Cant't mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed
That is the error that comes up right after flashing the phone with any ROM that are known good. And when reboot now is selected, it just shows blank screen right after the samsung logo shows up
That is the infamous internal sdcard corruption that quite a few Bell users are experiencing (see the thread in the general section). I had it once - I repartitioned and recovered; the next time it happened there was no way of fixing it. Tried many ROMS, repartitioning etc. I sent it in to Bell and they had to replace the motherboard.
I really hope there is a software/firmware fix but I don't have high hopes... good luck.

No point in being able to boot into OS,
when either internal or external storage can not be mounted.

in windows/linux when you have a drive that does not have a drive letter or is courupted you go into fdisk/gpart and fix it, why cant we do that in Android.
Flash drives dont just get corrupted where it is unfixible, I could see loosing the data but a low level partition and/format should be able to fix it.
Just my 2 cents
so no progress? i flashed Doc's JK3 rom, and my phone died within 2 days of flashing it.
i guess i'm going to read up on fdisk and gpart, and see if i can get something going.

[q] help! Tried to update rom and now phone isnt working!

ok so i tried to put rafdroid on my phone (link below):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528
I have tmobile HD2 running gingerbread 2.3.2. When I tried following the instructions and formatting/partitioning the SD card, my phone wouldnt work. i have clockworkmod recovery on my phone and i used it to install the rom zip file. it got to the screen where it has a picture of android and says dafdroid by dafpigna and stayed there for well over the initial startup time (over 20 min). I tried installing the dafdroid kernel as well (thru clockworkmod) and its still doing the same thing. when i tried formatting the sd card to anything other than quick format it wouldnt work and it wouldnt complete partitioning through the computer it would only work through clockworkmod on my phone. i tried to flash to another rom and even back to windows and it kept giving me an error message about some rampi.dll (something like that) isnt there.
please help! i cant use my phone at all! i have a 500 dollar paperweight
Hi,
Need a bit more information.
Can you still boot into magldr (holding down power button after switching on?)
What operating system are you running on your pc/laptop?
How far did you get when you were fomatting your sd card?
i find it quite common that an android rom wont complete the first boot after flash. mostly, pulling teh battery and booting again solves it.
Its also far more common when you didnt wipe the partitions from the previous rom first. (CWM, wipe data/factory reset, you can later use cwm - advanced restore - and just restore data and sd-ext to get your data and apps from teh previous rom back)
Partitioning, could be a dodgy sd card, no suggestions
rampi.dll - was it rapi.dll? update activesync to latest version.
I have an issue cannot install larger nand roms onto my phone previous roms worked tried various typhon cm7 roms, various miui roms both magldr and clk roms does not matter used task29 increased cwm size from 150 up to 250 and boot just hangs. Noticed roms larger than 90 MB zipped does not work at all they install but just hangs on boot

sd-card

how do I un-partition a sd card? running a rom and was just showing b not telling me how much space i have left or anything. was not even telling me how much internal memory i had on phone

yes i can get into recovery. I tried flashing synergy rom. would it be best to just run the ruu and redo the rooting process?
Reformatting is by far the best way. There is a remove sd partition selection in ClockWorkMod and Amon Ra recoverys, but ive never used them, bcuz i have no need to partition my sdcard because i always have 150mb,or more, free space,no matter which rom i use or what apps i add/install(original Evo 4G).Id simply copy the contents of your sdcard to your computer, then reformat the sdcard, and reinstall the content back to your sdcard.I dont suggest the remove sdcard partition method simply because ive never used it. Good luck.
thank ibcary we got that far now i'm just stuck on the splash screen. the reason for wanting to get rid of the partion is cause it was just saying b. not giving me any info on the card.
If u can get to recovery your doing good. Use Amon Ra if possible. CWMod doesnt always do a full wipe. id try going into recovery and perform a full wipe, wipe dalvik, wipe data,etc,etc...Then download a rom that u know works and is stable. I like MikGs Sense 2.1/3.0 roms, but which rom all depends on your device. Choose a rom thats well known to be a good, stable rom.Try flashing the newly downloaded rom from your sdcard thru recovery and if that doesnt work, then id try using a new/different sdcard. Sdcards dont last forever, and some are downright junk. As long as u can get to your bootloader theres still hope. Im sure your device is ok,but it could be a bad sdcard or a bad rom download. Thats why i recomended a new rom download, and if that doesnt work then try a new sdcard. Goodluck
ok. it was a new sd card that i partioned. am download a rom that I have used before and never had any problem with. but if this doesn't work should i just unroot and run the ruu and start over again?
how do i load the rom onto the sd card since it gets stuck at the splash screen??

once you have root and busybox installed correctly theres not much unrooting and then rooting again will solve.Except to return your device to stock, and to unroot i usually flash the unrooted stock rom. U can try the Root Checker app from the Market just to make sure your rooted and have busybox installed correctly. However custom roms are already rooted and have busybox installed correctly. If its a new sdcard id still try another sdcard. Use an sdcard u know is good. I bought a few cheap sdcards that were 8GB class 10 becuz i got a great deal on them,10 for $110.but out of the 10,only 7 were even recognized by my Evo or my HP dv7 Netbook and worked. Also i highly doubt they are class 10,bcuz my SanDisk 16GB C10 sdcard is much faster, and older too. So just bcuz its new doesnt mean its good.If it still wont work after a fresh wipe using Amon Ra recovery,NOT ClockWork Mod recovery, and a fresh/newly downloaded rom flashed from a different sdcard using Amon Ra recovery to fully wipe, then flash the newly downloaded rom from the different sdcard to your device. That shud work, but if it doesnt u can try reinstalling or updating your recovery.
As usual im a little behind again with my post. Good luck

First: Did you partition all the card or only a certain amount ?
Second: Almost all the Custom recoveries have format card so do that. Then boot back in recovery and mount your card from recovery.
Third: Do not run RUU Period.
Fourth: Wipe all, cache, dalvik and all 2or3 times.
You wont get stuck on splash. since you wipe all give it a bit of time to check everything about 5-10 minutes

on partition the card i just hit the power button on all of it. got a custom rom back on my phone now it is up and running.
I would suggest using this program when formatting your SD ..

Just and FYI, when partitioning your SD Card, it will wipe the contents. So you'll need to partition SD Card and then move over any content you want to install.

[Q] Acer A500 won't move past splash screen

Something got messed up when I tried to flash my acer a500 from a rooted version of 3.1. One problem I have (and I admit it was my fault) is I did not move my backed up ROM to my external card - so I don't have anything to restore.
My device will boot to CWM (v5, rev 1.3.4), I've tried loading several different ROMs just to flash something on there to get my device back to square one.
I got in this predicament because I had regular OTA 3.2 and couldn't root. I downgraded to 3.1 (buggy and endless FC), but I was able to run gingerbreak for rooting, do a backup (titanium) and my impression at that point was I could flash a custom mod through CWM.
Nothing is working. I have formatted the sd card in CWM and tried ROMs like Thor 14.2, Tabooney 3.0 and several 3.1/3.2 Acer stock ROMs. After wiping data/factory, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik and Battery Stats and then trying to load a zip file from /sdcard it either tells me the installation fails (which most believe is a bad dl), or (in the case of CWM_ROM_A500_701414_GEN1.zip), the install actually goes through - Finding update...opening update...Installing update... - but whenever I reboot after a *successful* install my device just hangs at the Acer logo/splash screen forever.
I've tried resetting the device (power/ + vol /lock on/off/on/off) and it hangs for a long time Erasing Cache.
I'm overwhelmed. I just want to get a stock ROM on that will install successfully so I can have a functional machine back. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or what I can do here? Thanks
Never mind
I used a different SD card and that did the trick

Probably have a corrupted SD. Might just do a full format on it and still be usable.
