Actually, not really. These sources have been available from the start; these packages are GPL licenced, so they HAVE to be released. This isn't too much of a help.

I disagree. For newb's like me who go back & forth between the two OS's its very helpful.
I will admit to spending the majority of my Touchpad time to android though.

I'm really curios. How does having source code help a self proclaimed newb? That's an oxymoron. By definition, a newb doesn't possess the knowledge to compile source code.

Newb: (n.) A person on the XDA forums who doesn't possess the knowledge to compile source code.
Interesting definition...

Not likely to help at all with rooting, but will be very useful afterward for allowing devs to compile their own kernels with features such as newer file systems, memory swaps, and more.

Google may never release 3.0 source

According to Bloomberg
This would be very disappointing...and the reasoning seems to be that they don't want devs putting Honeycomb on phones.
"Rubin says that if Google were to open-source the Honeycomb code now, as it has with other versions of Android at similar periods in their development, it couldn't prevent developers from putting the software on phones "and creating a really bad user experience. We have no idea if it will even work on phones."

Apparently, the next source they plan on releasing will be for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Developers make ROMs that don't work or barely work sometimes! They tweak it, play with it, get it up and running. If they're not sure if it can run on phones, well, leave it up to the huge developer base for Android to do the work for them!
So silly.

that's not the problem (as far as i can tell), as people who root and would flash a HC rom on a phone are a small percent of android users. It's the OEMs they're worried about porting HC and ruining the user experience of the device -and thusly android- with a bad port.
Yeah, I can see that happening.
I can't find the post I found regarding an update on the situation, where a representative said that they just won't release it YET.
Bummer but we've seen these situations already someone will leak it before we know it.

no.... you don't know what you're looking at, i think. maybe I should change the thread title to make it more clear.
does that mean koush is pulling repos from the atrix code and merging it with the CM repos..? i dont know much of Devving and Git.. except the obvious storage/branches holding programming code for the teams to compile.
Merge away, Koush! Merge away... Good find OP. Intriguing at a minimum.

Yeah read something about Atrix cm team getting it to the nightlies then turning it over to official team.

Sorry guys, I tried using it for 2 weeks and just couldn't take it. I built a working recovery and was done. I went out and bought a Nexus S.
Personally, I believe if you guys want hardware that has fantastic open source software support, you need to buy hardware that supports open source software. Vote with your money and buy dev phones (ie Nexus S). Eventually companies will catch on.

the only people that will merge to cm gits will be the atrix dev team, koush is only participating of collaboration, he is using our better atrix build to make a better cwm!
Lol, i forgot to tell, it have the atrix gb tree, but nothing is in there, id sent the wrong link =/
Samcripp, the camera app looks that is not using hw acceleration, what about if you add in it a line to enable hw acceleration, i did that in an app from dext and it worked.

Is it possible for me to contribute enough to make the HTC EVO 4G LTE an official device?

If your device runs AOSP (or any derivatives for that matter) then you can compile and run Omni on your phone.

I understand that. I'm asking something irrelevant to that.
Ah ok. Yes, it will be possible to make it "officially" supported. It will take time though to get to the stage where this happens, as a lot needs to be done first with the sources to make it ready
