I'm about to choose an ICS build to flash on to my Wi-Fi only Xoom.
What has been the experience with each of the 2 main ICS builds out there? Rogue/EOS?
Any preferences if so why?
Also, if I do a Titanium Backup of my Apps in HC 3.x, will they restore correctly in ICS?
Spend a day with each of them. You don't have to worry about stability on the Xoom like most other devices. ICS was programmed for the Xoom by Google, so the software isn't "hacked" to run like most devices. Try each of them out and see what you like. I would suggest restoring only data for your apps. Reinstall your apps from the market and then restore data only, and of course don't restore system data. You could probably get away with restoring apps+data but if you want less chance of force closes just do data.
Oh and for preference I build a version of the EOS ROM because EOS has more options as far as custom settings at the moment. CM9 is still in the process of building the groundwork for adding all the customizations it is famous for.
I have been nothing but blown away by the Team EOS nightlies of ICS. 34 days in, and they had relatively 100% functionality. Camera -- including Face Unlock + Sillyfaces, HDMI, dock functionality, Bluetooth, Netflix. EVERYTHING.
I never get any FC's, I never have to work around anything.
I've not personally used the Rogue build, and have not used the CM9 Kang either. EOS has it done first -- and I can't see improving the experience much by switching to another build. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
Throwing my vote behind EOS even though I just installed it less than 2 hours ago. The thing just ROCKS! My first ROM install on the Xoom and it was flawless. Apps+data restored using Titanium Backup. Couldn't be happier.
Thanks for all the awesome input. I'm going to try EOS first!

Gotta agree with this. EOS was my first flashed rom on my Xoom, did it last night and I couldnt be happier. I have not tried the other builds so can't comment on them.
I also happened to get my Moto BT keyboard and mouse today and they both paired and functioned perfectly right out of the box with ICS. I'm using them right now as a matter of fact!

I've got this thing mostly set up the way I want. I seem to be having the dictionary issues that others have mentioned but that's minor. Once I finish setting everything up tomorrow I'll nandroid it and call it good. Now we just need to keep it up to date and we're good.

Had problems with the wireless on EOS, veeery unstable. So I'm on ICS stock atm, and will wait until they both stabilize before trying them again.

Of EOS? 30 and 32. I've seen a few people with this or similar issues in a few threads but it's far from common. I did wonder if it was anything to do with mixed G and N myself. However EOS does look like it's pretty good so I'll go back to it in a few weeks when the EOS and CM teams have had more chance to look over the stock ROM. Only issue I have with this is that my Xoom takes all night to install the 300+ applications the Market thinks I have installed.

It may be. I had a problem with my parent's N router when I visited for Christmas. Had to be set on B+G-Mix the whole time I was there, because none of my Android devices (2 phones, 2 tabs) would connect otherwise. Strange, considering I have an N-router at home and there's no issues. But **** happens.
man try um all
I haven't tried the EOS rom yet since the Team Rogue rom is working so well for me.
I'm truly loving my Xoom all over again.
I've been on Team EOS since Nightly #1 and I honestly couldn't be happier, everything works flawlessly for me and it has been so much fun flashing a new nightly every other day...after 6 months of owning a XOOM it was so refreshing to see this amazing device get the ICS ROM and all of the attention it deserves.
Team Tiamat did an amazing job with Honeycomb and has now evolved and is doing an even better job with ICS
I just want to thank them for all their hard work!

If you sub in the build.prop from the EOS Stingray build, most games will work. Not sure on your specific games, but check the Wingray thread for more details.

Ics passion v4. Its like wiping your ass with silk. Smooth as hell.
Yea, that's what I've been using. It's still a Beta, so, there's some kinks... but, it's the best ICS ROM for us at the moment.
Agreed. Not using it, as I'm waiting for the bugs to be ironed out. However I am watching that thread like a hawk. Waiting for the rom to exit the beta stages.

Passion v4 is good, still has some kinks but only because its still in Beta. I use it as my daily since i really dont do much except text, email, Plume, FC Scoremobile, and once in awhile YouTube.
No video camera or GPS
other than that its pretty awesome!
I'm using the i9000 version as a daily ROM, been pretty sweet. Same battery life if not better from gingerbread. Each version has its own little caveats though so beware.
Are 911 or the headphone media stop/start buttons working on any ICS roms?
Thanks.
Passion v4
I'm Using passion v4 and its pretty great so far. No GPS (for me at least) but that is to be expected. Only a couple of bugs left as far as I can tell. Give it a shot.

issues, WHAT issues?
Besides the normal battery life decrease from froyo roms that most people are used to- there aren't too many issues.
Major issues:
Video Recording does not work for any port yet (i9000etc.)
GPS does not work for us.
Lesser issues:
some apps may freeze up since they aren't ICS compatible yet.

I think you get defensive too quickly...
Greg was comparing early gingerbread to early ICS saying that ICS has had a less buggy start than GB did. Then he ASKED if there were issues.
So if anything I think you just agreed with him, in a very aggressive way.
Any way, thanks to this thread, I jumped on the Passion v4 wagon. I was contemplating waiting for v5 while doing homework but couldn't help myself. I have no regrets.
After restoring everything with Titanium it runs really smooth (something was going wrong in CM7, probably from all the crap I had installed). The battery life seems about the same as GB, but everything looks so much nicer.
I found a few apps that do not appreciate ICS as much as I do, but if they're no friends of ICS they are no friends of mine!
I just hope GPS is working before my trip in a few weeks (and from the sounds of it they will have it working in the next few days, if not tonight).
It is the only ICS rom I have tried so far, but whether everyone here was right or just my ignorance of what else is out there, I am still very happy with it.
I just have one question. How do you flash if by chance you've alraedy installed a different version of ICS? Because you cant mount it to send any data to it!

This is a very very smooth ROM. I'm coming from CM7 with Glitch v13 and as far as I can see, it's amazing! Will be using it as my dd for a good long time. Only complaint is there isn't as much customization as with CM7 but I just installed ADW launcher and that's good enough for me!
Recommended to any Vibrant user!
I tried I9000 port of ICS with working button mapping, gps,hw accel because it sounds most likely to go into the next CM type of build, while the others just seem like rom chefs working from someone else's source.
For me it was snappy as hell, literally from the moment I got it running it felt more smooth than any of the current gingerbread roms. I didn't keep it on long enough to comment on battery life, and unlike most of the people in the thread, I couldn't get gps working(nor did I try things like media buttons).. in the end I gave up on it because titanium backup wouldn't restore my apps. Not one. I was too lazy to troubleshoot it or install them all again one by one, and I wanted my daily driver/reliable 2.2 back.
But it gave me hope: if they have a working rom, this quick, that smooth, with so few definite problems- it will probably surpass any gingerbread version I have tried to date.
Hell, if I could have restored my titanium backup and the apps I truly use every day actually worked, I'd still be using it.

Edit: Maybe the reason you can't mount it is because you need modified USB drivers? Here are the Modified usb drivers just in case some computers dont detect the device that they have posted here
Otherwise..
Umm, you can't mount it? The ICS I tried didn't have a mounting problem.. but if your still able to flash, you could bluetooth the files you need over, use dropbox and download it, and there are probably a few other ways I could think of.. otherwise I'm not sure what is stopping you, I don't even know which ICS still can't mount.

When you say customization in CM7, are you just talking about theming? Unless there is a large part of customization I missed that CM7 offered, the theming in cm7 was far outweighed by what you could do in MIUI, besides the many features it offered that CM7 never even touched..
Oh the other note, I would also recommend any vibrant user to give ICS a try- it offers something unique and fresh, and I am quite happy with the beta experience it had.
ICS Passion v5. Other than GPS and video recording for now evrything works as it is supposed to. USB mounting is correct (no more MTP mount). It's smooth and fast. Camera even works in Panorama mode. It's no longer beta in my opinion, its a perfect daily driver. Best Rom ever on my Vibrant.
Here's a picture of San Diego yesterday taken from Coronado Island.

No no, its not that. I just wanted to see how many people are using cm9, and how many tried it out but went back to cm7 and so on.
running it on my nook color. havent even tried it on my phone yet.
I tried CM9 and loved it, but CM7 is better as a daily ROM at the moment. Few more fixes to CM9 and I'll be moving over to it permanently.
I really like it Android keeps getting better every year
Exactly 45 people are currently using cm9. Exactly 23 went back to cm7 after trying it out.

Aside from some visual tearing on videos and random discoloring in video recording it's running so perfect for me

I'll wait until more of the bugs are worked out. I'm still on stock GB (rooted BML) and it has been awesome for me. Battery lasts a full work day, I can go to work and come home with battery life to spare, GPS works without freezes, my music and videos work and play great, I takes great videos and still shots, and the few games I have on there (mainly to entertain my kids) work great too. There is nothing on CM9 as of yet that makes me want to switch until all the bugs get ironed out, which I know will be soon considering our devs have been cranking fixes as fast as lighting lately.

It shows wifi strength as poor 1 room away from my router. My other nandroids are CM7, Sleeper EL30 2.03, and Legendary MTD converted RC2.1.

Same here. CM9 has been dam near perfect since I installed it, it even seems to work better than CM7 did on my phone.
Really bummed over the video issues, but I think I may just live with it, as I rarely use video, I mostly take pics.
CM7 just didnt bring enough to the table to make me make a perm change from Legendary RC 2.2 w/ MTD, (which was flawless) but with CM9, I just cant get myself to restore my Legendary backup. Video issues are the only bug that matters (at least to me), and the rest of it was just so much better, I think CM9 is here to stay. Given how great it is now, I cant wait to see what it looks like in a month or two (which seems like a lifetime away, but will be here before I know it)
I can't believe my CM9 wish list has been reduced to:
Video recording fixed (major)
Built in theme support fixed (minor, given I was able to apply a theme by hand)
TV-Out enabled (yah, I know, I'm dreaming)
FM Radio (not needed, just would be cool)
So, with 2 of the 4 items being wishful thinking items, and themes being just a matter of time for it to added in, that leaves a single fix for me to have a flawless (IMO) CM9
I feel as giddy as a schoolgirl!! WOOT!
Just recently had a little extra money and picked up a kindle fire about 3-4 days ago. I played around with a few display models at local stores and thought it would be nice to have a tablet for general use around the home. After I got one and played with the stock rom for a while then about 5 hours later started playing with root and other roms. Currently using cm7 and I have to say it's buttery smooth and the graphic performance is amazing.
It's flawless how it currently is but I've heard a few users saying they're on cm9. I recently flashed a cm9 compiled rom on my phone (G2/vision) and I really like the new layout so I wanted to ask which cm9 release would you suggest for the KF? Also what bugs are included? Just wanted to get some input on them in their current state.
CM9 on the Fire is good but not quite perfect. The only major is issue is lack of hardware acceleration, so no in app flash player videos(youtube, netflix, etc). Other than that after a little tweaking I have ICS running nice and smoothly. Devs are hard at work on HWA though so I'd say within a few weeks we'll have that working and CM9 will be great.
I flashed a cm9 rom just shortly after posting, wifi wouldn't seem to turn on. Is that just me or is it a known issue? It wasn't specified in the larger ICS development/dicussion thread. Blah, guess I have to search around a little more.
Which release are you using btw jake?

I want to know what you guys think of the new Jellybean ROMs that we've all been blessed with. Are you happy with it? Any comments, anything? Just wanted to hear what you all think about the new OS on our tablets.
Personally I love it more than anything. Honeycomb and ICS have been nothing but pure lag, from stock ROMs to custom ROMs. I never thought I'd see the day this tablet actually performed smoothly, so when Jellybean first arrived (and pretty damn fast, as well), I was excited. Tried the ROM and loved it, it's just ridiculously smooth, and it works. Now I still get lag playing MC3 or Monster Life, but those are heavy games and Gameloft is pretty ****ty when it comes to properly making an Android game so that's excused. But other games like Dead Trigger work without a hitch, and emulators no longer suffer either. And just for being Android, it gets even better since I can use a wireless mouse over USB OTG, a BT keyboard, and a PS3 controller for games and emulators. All thanks to Jellybean, my tablet is awesome now
And also a thanks to MapleSyrup and pershoot, for the two that gave us Jellybean ROMs at all
Yes, i like cyanogenmod 10, it's smooth and I haven't really noticed any over the top bugs...Battery life could be better but i prefer to sacrifice battery for that smoothness... And now that leads me to Samsung and their ****ty update plan...I mean come on i have waited 8 months to get ICS that lags like hell and doesn't play youtube videos correctly?...They should have just skipped ICS and focus on jelly bean...Other tablets are getting jellybean and we just got ICS, wonder how much will it take them to provide the stock jellybean...another 8 months?(i'm a fan of touchwiz that's why i *****...and i don't want a 7 inch tablet(nexus 7)).
I Skype lots so need a working camera. Can't wait till CM10 has the camera driver. Any word on wheh this can be expected ?
I have cm10 and it seems so fast but a Quadrant test must tell it's value...the previous tests show that ICS is faster but JB's graphics are better...
Now that the rear camera is working the ROM is worth flashing(I never use the camera but couldn't bear it's loss...).
What do you TouchWiz fans think about putting it on the JB?it seems possible, doesn't it?let me know... ...

The reason Quadrant scores are lower in JB is because JB puts the UI at a higher priority, basically to keep the whole thing smooth. Antutu's latest update takes that into account and as far as I know, it's the only benchmark app that has been updated for Jellybean.
I keep installing ROMs on here to find the smoothest reliable ICS or JB, and CM10 is working beautifully for me. I especially like the subtle mods, like weather on the lock screen, email count in status bar, ability to enter settings without the app you were in being closed by the system, three action lockscren... the list goes on.
Definitely gets my vote unless you can't live without camera.

I actually used CM10 Preview by pershoot and was highly impressed by the performance and smoothness. However, I recently started to require skyping for work related meetings so had to switch back to ICS 4.0.4. When JB works with front camera, expect me to be the first in line.

Android 4.1.1? which one? confused like hell!?
Maybe it is only me confused here. and this is my first post, so be gentle
so I got excited when Samsung finally release Android 4.0.4!, could not wait so I downloaded UK Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (I have US one).
all good, but still not smooth, slow, then realize we need Android 4.1.1 (I have Google Nexus 7)...so jumped here, checking JB ROMs. that's when I start get confused. which one should I download that has less bug? Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10? or Toldo's JellyBeanRom ICS v5? or MapleSyrup's JellyBeanRom ICS? when you read each post (usually hundreds of replies), you even got more confused...
don't take me wrong, I love what our developer is giving us! even if this my first post, I already donated. however, it would be so helpful if there's new thread that lists all JB ROMs, and clearly outlines what works and what does not works, of any additional fixes. Now my galaxy tab 10.1 sitting there, staring at me, and dying to get on JB
Cheers to all:good:

I've been using CM10 builds from Pershoot and I've been really pleased. Fast, responsive, and all the apps I use day-to-day work beautifully. Battery life is trouble-free. I do occasionally get lockups, but I'm too lazy to try to identify how -- a lot of the time, it's opening large PDFs. Otherwise, most tasks are trouble-free. Rear cam works beautifully.
Unfortunately, I'm cursed with an SCH-i905 -- and no 4G LTE until Samsung gets off their ass and releases source that pershoot can merge. When that day comes, I will wet my pants in excitement.
I have a 4G LTE phone as well, so I just tether the tablet, and life is grand... but I sure would love to have it natively working on my tab. For a few months I had to revert back to stock HC on it because I needed the 4G... now that I've switched back to CM, I've been very happy.

It is CM10, even the developers hate to hear it called CMX... This is Android, not Crapple!
For me, it is running great on both my tablet and my phone minus the occasional scrambled boot on my tablet (never happened on cm9 or any other roms) which I still get after updating to the official ICS boot loaders. But, it seems way more polished and complete then the early versions of CM9. I have made it my daily driver on both devices. Battery life is better than 4.0.4 also as long as you turn off Google now and so e of the location services. It will only get better with time...
BAHA - Crapple.
Yeah sorry about that - it does say CM10 in my sig, I just got lazy typing last night. My bad.

Battery life is better than 4.0.4 also as long as you turn off Google now and so e of the location services. It will only get better with time...

So Crappie owns the letter X? I use it as a roman numeral when abbreviating CM.
Also, I'm curious, what difference do the ICS bootloader provide? Is it a noticeable improvement?

Haha, of course they don't own it... I just heard entropy tell someone in another thread not to call it cmx Since the boot animation that coined the cmx name is in no way official and they (cm10 dev team) have never called it that. If people are searching for answers about cm10 and people are calling it cmx, it may confuse users and make them think cmx is something different. We all know it is not, but we should all be using the real name for consistency purposes, right? I didn't mean to be an a**, just stating the facts.
Whereas CM10 is still in alpha stage, I can say that it works very well! This promises to be the best ROM.
I was running MapleSyrup's AOSP JellyBean build for about a week and then switched over to pershoot's CM10. While I found they were very similar I stuck with CM10 because it feels a bit smoother. I had a little issue with a scrambled screen when booting where only for a second or two the screen was rolling but cleared up afterwards. I did not have a rolling recovery screen. I updated the bootloader to the ICS version and it's been great since. I also haven't had any SOD's either when charging overnight or just sitting there.
The only issue which I still have is Youtube HD videos get very choppy and this happened on both JB builds.
But another good news tidbit is that HBO GO was updated to support JB and that was the only thing I was missing since running an ICS rom. And it seems to work perfectly!
So, thanks go out to Maple and pershoot and all the other devs out there that contribute to getting us up to speed. I was just over my dad's house and updated his GTab to ICS for him and all the while I was chuckling because I've been running JellyBean for a while before he even got ICS!

I am on MapleSyrup's AOSP JellyBean, and you said "updated the bootloader to the ICS version"? I am a little confused. .how do you do that? what the benefit? I am assuming when you said bootloader to ICS version, you meant latest ICS stock?
I believe there are three major JB ROMs development going on as far as I can see. Some JB ROMs have more issue than others, some does not. And we are so grateful for these developers taking time and giving us these ROMs. and we should encourage them more, so please donate and say THANK YOU.:good:
and now, I am dead curious who's using which JB ROMs and their feedback, what they run into, issues, suggestions etc.
if anyone gives their feedback here, this would be wonderful for average users who's looking around and trying to figure out each of these JB ROMs.
Looking forward your valuable responses!

First of all, the first link is an ICS ROM not JellyBean.
With that out of the way, both CM10 and AOSP are running the same kernel so you will not see much difference in performance. CM10 with have more features then AOSP will have because AOSP is a "pure" experience from Google source.
It depends on your preference but I like CM10.

Rear Camera works at the moment for AOSP and CM10. That is why I said the kernel is the same. Right now, pershoot is working on getting CM9 to RC status and then will be working on fixing the front camera and other fixes.

I'm using CM10 and facing problem like original 3.1 ROM that I let it charging over night and the tab dead could not re-star again .I have to open the back cover removed the batteries socket and put it back and can star again ,is happened to me 3 times .
And other problem is Google play not working properly many time I put the install button but it not response .Almost other works perfect.
I'm using CM 10 and have been for about a week now.
Very nice!
My thanks to all the geniuses that made that possible!
I am, however, considering replacing it with a ROM that allows Flash. Unless I can find a way to get Flash working. Amazon Instant Video runs on Flash, which makes me wonder what they are going to do when the Fire upgrades to JB...
I don't use the tablet much, as my GNexus (also running CM10) does all I really need to do, but I do use it for videos and games.
Can I get any recommendations on whether I should switch to something like Galaxy Task, or just go back to ICS?

I downloaded Flash directly from Adobe's site as they pulled out from Play store. I was looking for it, and then read couple of posts, and they said download it directly from adobe. I am attaching Flash apk file here that worked for AOSP ROM that I have on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (GT-P7510). It is a bit laggy, but it works. Chrome browser has some issue with it too, in fact on Google Nexus 7 has the same thing, so believe it is generic Google JB thingy.
I flashed with AOSP ROM on my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi), and have been using for several days. I was planing to go back to original stick ICS (USA), but decided to not to because it made my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi) very fast, and buttery smooth! it is almost feel like I got 'new' tablet. Even my wife, when she picked my tablet first time after I flashed, said Wow what did you do!? (she has new iPad!). Anyway, so far did not notice any issue (other than we all know front cam does not work), but again I have not done any heavy testing or heavy games yet on it.
I picked AOSP ROM over CM10, because I like pure Google JB experience (like my new Google Nexus 7!). I am closely monitoring the developer threads for any new update. I know they demonstrated working front cam, but it seems like it breaks other part, so I am sure it will be get fixed soon
I've been using CM10 since MapleSyrup started it and continued with pershoot taking over. I really like how nicely it works and the good outweighs the few times for the wifi dropping out or the sod after charging. pretty easy/fast to just reboot so it doesn't matter too much.

Well, I have HP Touchpad with WebOS and Android CM9 installed. Even if there are several issues on TouchPad using CM9, I can still live with it, after all I switch from WebOS to Android to play some games, so considering simple reboot or turn on airplane mode on and off to fix Wifi dropping issue is not really deal breaker for me. It is the JB's smoothness and how fast it is what really attracts me the most.
