im just getting really frustrated because my wifi keeps dropping out. Everytime I connect to my hotspot it drops out after 30 seconds - it will work for those 30 seconds but then i have to reset it....
Ive tried using connectify and mhotspot which they work its just that after 30 seconds of use my tablet says its still connected but a popup will come up on the tablet saying connection timed out or no connection - any ideas?
Also Ad-Hoc is a piece of **** - whenever i try to set up an ad-hoc connection it just doesnt do it. It will say its connected when i set it up with static but it wont do **** and after 10 seconds it disconnects itself.
Thanks,
Collin
Again, Civato.
You'll get better help there, than here, as he runs custom scripts, especially for WiFi.
I had a similar problem which turned out to be due to faulty hardware (the router, in my case). Before doing anything else, you should ensure this isn't the case with your device...

Ok so tis is my problem. the Wifi connects fine. i use it for 10 minutes...20 minutes..it works.. then suddenly.. it stops working?
I go to comm manager the Signal quality is full or 3/4 full (dependent on location). it stays connected... the tx rate is 54Mbps and the Rx Rate jumps between 1-54Mbps.. My network is not security protected but no one uses it except me and my computer.
Im using messeneger then it says " messenger trying to reconnect blah blah) then i go to opera and it stopped working too...but its still connected, the signal strength is still strong?
Whats going on?!
My router is a Netgear DG834GT.. I have put my xperia's mac address on the allowed list as well.. i just dont get it?
i have to disconnect and reconnect to get it working..then it lasts another 5 minutes and dies again? Sometimes when i reconnect it still doesnt work so i have to turn off wifi and turn it on 2 or 3 times?
You are not alone, my friend. That's exactly what happened to me, except mine is Belkin.
Someone here (sorry I can't remember) suggest turning off bluetooth solved the problem.
i would try upgrading the firmware of the router it solves many incompatability issues for many people
sometimes my linksys drops data connection so the wifi signal is just a pin
and only fix is to unplug the router for 10sec and replug it
seems to be common that wifi act up at least see people complain in many many forums for wifi able devices
bluetooth is not on at all... Also every other wifi device will connect just fine? why would it work then just stop?
I have no idear only knows that what i wrote fix it in many cases for many people
i have wifi on even in standby tweaked...did you guys tweak anything? like auto off or anything?
nop i just use wpa AES
but as i said i update my wifi router with the latests firmware when
ever linksys updated it and believe me they updated it often
is anyone facing this problem or faced it before then fixed it?
if it's not your router as Rudegar suggests (one way to test, try over a different wifi elsewhere) then I wonder if your wifi is powering down for some reason?
Hey guys...having the same problem. Firstly I had trouble connecting to Wifi with the Xperia...then I updated the router firmware...now I can connect to Wifi but it does nothing, I cannot surf the net, I cannot connect to Skype I cannot connect to Windows live, cannot check my mail, etc...
Any ideas? Bluetooth etc not on at all...
I've tried numerous times to get my laptop (XP) to connect via wmwifirouter using either WEP or WPA. I get all the settings to match up and it never connects, or at times the laptop reverts to incorrect settings. If I change everything back to an open connection it connects in seconds.
Normally I use this at home where an open connection is no problem since the neighbors are at least 1/4 mile away. But I would like to have the option of opening my connection in public without worrying that 10 other people are hogging my bandwidth.
Anyone have any success?
I have it working on my X7510, but every setup was done automatic, so I don't know how to advice you on this. I never changed anything. It just works on mine after install.
Is anyone else having trouble with their WiFi dropping out all the time? My phone keeps dropping WiFi, dropping back to 3G. I have to keep going to settings and telling it to reconnect.
I have a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato firmware. Most things can connect to it just fine, but my Dell Laptop from work gives me a BSOD when I try to connect it wirelessly.
Thoughts?
I think I figured it out. I upgraded my Tomato firmware on the router, and WiFi seems to be working much better.

Please post back if it acts up again. My wifi has stopped working a few times and I had to manually reset it. My problem was compounded because 3g seemed to be active but webpages would timeout and sync would fail. Really annoying.
no problems with my wifi but I turn off network data. Maybe that helps?

I have the same issue. My wi-fi goes down and keeps looping through "obtaining an IP address". Killed my battery last night trying to connect to wi-fi. I can't get it coinnected again until I reset my router. weird?
I don't know if I would classify it as constant, but the University wireless network disconnects after some period of inactivity. I'm not certain if it is due to the phone or the network.

It seems like it is still doing it, but I'm wondering if what it is actually doing now is disconnecting after a period of disuse, then reconnecting.
It seems like if I don't see the WiFi symbol, and I select Mail or the Browser, it will re-appear.
I have similar issues with WIFI. It seems having a hard time connecting or even seeing the signal at times, but other times it's fine. I have WIFI at home and at work, and many places I am so I use it all the time, and all of them I have set up (I'm a sys admin).
I have WiFi analizer loaded and at times it won't even see my netowrks when my laptop is already connected. If I reboot the phone it seems to fix it after a min or so. Sometimes turning WiFi off and on helps but not always.
It's really inconsistant... I'll go a few days with no problems, then it will have problems for a day or so. Open or encrypted don't seem to make a differance.

Tomato firmware, that sounds cute.

Issue 1040: wifi does not timeout on idle
Issue that was in an earlier version of Android, and is back in 2.1.
When the phone sleeps, it turns off WiFi. Then, it won't turn it back on properly until you go to settings or sometimes WiFi settings. Then it just pops on automatically.
Yup, I got this problem too and its very annoying.
It usually happens when the phone has been sleeping for an extended period of time. Sometimes wifi disconnects and will not reconnect even when I'm in the middle of browsing the web.
i had this issue as well.... i went to settings/wireless and networks/wifi settings....then hit menu/advanced/wifi sleep policy.... i selected nver and haven't had a problem since
Problem is, "never" is already selected and issue still persists.
I had set it to 15 minutes to see if it fixed the problem, because I was having it when it was set to never. I'm setting it to never now to see if
the GUI just wasn't displaying the value that was set.

I've noticed that my [rooted] Vibrant frequently has trouble connecting, or staying connected, to WiFi networks.
At first I thought it was specific to my Verizon Actiontec WiFi router, however I've also noticed this at my office, where we use Motorola routers, as well as a few other locations that I frequent.
It's still possible that its a site-specific problem, but, less likely as I'm seeing this in a few locations.
Symptoms:
I configure my phone to connect to X network.
It successfully connects and all it fine.
I get out of range, it no longer sees network X and disconnects.
Some time later I return to my previous location and expect that in N seconds/minutes the phone will automatically reconnect.
A considerable amount of time passes and I notice it's still not connected.
I check the wifi settings and it days connection unsuccessful.
I tap the network, click connect and it works.
I've also noticed this after connecting to a network and the phone goes to 'sleep' or into an idle state. When a wake it up, it doesn't always automatically reconnect.
Anyone else seen this?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
i've had that problem. i am not sure what it was because I was rooted and Ryaned. I got sick of all the stupid lil bugs and had to wipe format and unroot. Now that I am back to the original condition, theres this sense of comfort knowing if something buggy happens, it's not "my" fault.
Thanks for the reply.
I noticed this prior to rooting and 'Ryan'ing'.
The capacitive buttons don't work all that well from time to time - specifically the Home button so maybe I should just exchange it. I'll call TMO tomorrow to see what they say.
This issue really bothers me a lot after I upgrade my Atrix to Gingerbread: when I turn on the wifi, it takes up to 2 minutes for the phone to connect to a wifi hotspot. During that connecting time, in the phone's wifi connection settings, it's either showing 'scanning' or 'obtaining ip address' but with an empty wifi network list. It seems like the wifi chip is still initializing itself or something. This problem doesn't happen all the time. About 1 in 10 times, it can connect to the same wifi hotspot instantaneously. And I am pretty sure it's not the problem of the wifi hotspots because I used them before with the same phone + froyo and there was zero problem at then.
Has anyone seen similar problem like this?
Forgot to mention that I have done the factory reset several times and the problem never goes away.
