I apologize in advance i cannot find the forum with similar topic i know exist but i really want to update my hd2 with a newer version of WP7 and gain the ability to do updates but i know if i change the ROM it will ask me for the activation code and i really don't want to go thru the calls to MS with the possibility of them asking for POP.
i installed Registry editor and i go to HKEY local machine/Software/MS/GwpCPC and there is no info. if I'm not mistaken that is the location of the activation key.
Can some one pls help? really would like the latest version. i currently have Version 7.0.7004.
BTW when i try to upgrade thru Zune errors out stating that i don't have room on an empty phone. if there is a way to force update all the way to mango i would greatly appreciate that info as well.
thanks
1. The only way to activate the WP7 with Windows Live is by contacting MS for the activation key. Personally, it is VERY simple. I got my key within 10 minutes. There is also a tutorial here to get it through a chat with a MS representative so that way, you won't need to talk to them.
2. Which WP7 rom are you on? Almost all the custom roms here are now up to date with 8107. You would have to download the exact same custom rom @ the 8107 version and just flash it the same way you did to get WP7.

I actived wm7 but I still have trouble to download applications.
I understand that should I change my register that my Leo look like a HD7 to the marketplace.
But the methods I've found on the forums are not clear. Can someone explain to me or give me a link? Please help me...
Why don´t you simply flash a custom ROM with all that stuff already cooked in?
The first WP7 ROM, Leo70, didn´t have that yet, but check the development thread, there are some to choose from.
Once you have one of those on your HD2, the name and jailbreak stuff won´t bother you anymore...
I installed WP7 long ago. Additionally I already used 3 times my activation key. I have to find a new rom does not seek to call windows for the key....

You dont need a rom that doesnt ask for key, plus one doesnt even exists anyway.
You can re-use the activation key more then 3 times.
I'll reinstall new rom. Again thanks much! It will simplify me life because I do not edit the registry...
Hey guys im getting a chevron error that is saying the phone isnt connected. SDK installed, connected to zune, network connections turned off... idk what to do. Been searching everywhere and cant find anything. using xp SP3.
Same problem here. Tried all different kinds of variations with connections.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate.
Firstly, this is the dev forum (for posting dev work), there is a reason why these forums have Q&A sub-forums and I thought the reason would be obvious
Second, why are you even using chevron? All the latest roms are pre-unlocked so you have no need to use chevron unless you are still using the first build that was released.
Just re-flash to custom rom.
hmm... that's confusing. Well, I am using LEO7 or w/e... from a guide on here. Is that not right?
Secondly... I posted this in the Q&A forum, so what is the problem?
Thirdly, When trying to activate my HD2, should I just skip the step with chevron and continue to the registry editing? How can I see if my WP7 is unlocked?
Here is an example of one of the ROMS that is developer unlocked, which means you do not have to worry about Chevron and registry hacks. In theory, just input your activation code, and you should be ready to go.
Apparently the other poster lost track of which sub-forum he was in, so do not worry about that.

I still dont have to change the registry to make my phone identity a HD7? This rom I am using is developer unlocked now - can I contact Microsoft and get the key all the while telling them I have an HD7? How do I verify my phone's identity being an HD7?
Best thing for you to do is recheck the details about the ROM you installed. Most of the newer versions have the registry taken care of, so there is no need for you to change it to create the appearance of a version of Windows Phone 7. The information about your ROM should give you all the details, including the WP7 model number.

I looked at the ROM details and it said that it is Chevron hacked, and the registry edited. Doesn't specifically say the identity changed to an HD7. Chatting with microsoft, just got my key and I am giving it a try now. Will post results. Thanks guys.

hi am sorry but no there is currently not any way to read the activation code from the device itself...
But u can still get a new code if u want!
(I got my code by email, because the code i got wen i called them just wasn't working.)
Is the Activation Code stored on the HD2?
I read on one of the pages of one of the threads in one of the Forums (phew), that the MS Activation Code was stored and almost readable if you had the right apps and RegEdit(?).
After settling down with WP7 I decided I was happy to wait for Mango updates before Re-Flashing, so I discarded the Post-It with my code, but XBMod now has a ROM out and I want it. So I'm gonna need that code.
Does anyone have any more on this?
Edited: 03/06/2011
Just phoned MS UK on 0844 800 2400.
Told them I'd reset my phone and asked them to read my activation code back out to me, which they did. Happy days, just sent it to myself in an e-mail so no more waiting for another XBMod ROM. Ta.
well, you can use the code on your WP7 using this registry :
Live ID Activation Code
(Usefull on HD2 to bypass boring serial number step, need a valid serial!)
Code:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\GwpCPC]
"ActivationCode"="*****-*****-*****-*****-*****"
Then maybe after using the code it would be there ?
So im using android at the moment and i want to move to wp7 cuz its really smooth and i like wp (plus i heard that there is a skype and whatsup finally )
ok so here's the deal,i need to choose a ROM,so i tought about this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443709
but i dont really know,if you can give me adviced or links to good roms it will be awesome.the rom is for daily use so i need pretty regular one ;p(but i need acces to download things from the marketplace and i heard something about activation codes..wat ?)
secondly i need to know what i need for wp7.. so here's a list of what i have:
1.MAGLDR113
2.4gb sd card
3.ClockworkMod Recovery (250)
4.SPL-2.08.HSPL
5.i think i have radio 2.15.50.14 but im not sure cuz it not showing it ;o
i have all i need?
thank you!
Hi
The one big downside ( well at least some people think so) of WP7.5 is that you cant sync contacts , calender directly with your PC ! So this is something you need to think about before moving to WP7 . Syncing has to be done via "the cloud" so you'll need to set up a windows live/hotmail or a google gmail account.
As for which rom.....we could argue endlessly which is best. Different people have different requirements.
I have been using Pdaimatejam roms ( I'm now on ver 7.8) for a good few weeks now and its working well for me. I suggest you read the threads on a few roms and you'll see what the XDA users think of them.
Activation code. If you want to use marketplace ( apps etc) you'll need an activation code from MS. There are some "other" market place style options but to take full advantage of MS WP7 you'll need to activate it. There's a couple of methods for doing this ( read the threads) I contacted my local MS support and got one within an hour or so via email.
Oh and in general it is a good idea to flash an original WM6.5 first to get your phone back to stock and confirmed working. A "clean" formatted SD card wont do any harm either.
good luck
also try look this tutorial
https://rapidshare.com/files/2232080081/ROM_install_Tutorial_v1.6.pdf
or http://www.wupload.com/file/2677286812
if you need any radio look in my signature
Using Pdaimatejam 7.9, and is working good. The really drawback is the acess to the SD by the PC
umm ok i think ill also go on Pdaimatejam cuz lots of people sayin that it is good and it have a tut
now about the marketplace and live thing,i didnt understand how to activate it and how to get it to work..can someone explane?
get code calling or chat with Microsoft
here is chat explain

Like any Microsoft product you need an activation code to use it properly.
You can install WP7 ( any of the ROMs) without it and the phone will work you just wont be able to access the official Market place to get apps
It also wont sync ( contacts / calenders )with windows live / hotmail.
WP7 isn't officially supported on the HD2 so when you call or chat with MS helpdesk you should tell them its a HD7 ( which is supported)
Tell them you have just bought the HD7 second hand off ebay or something like that.
I called them and they emailed me the code 1 hour later. Never tried the live chat option but it seems to work for some people.
Once you have a code from them you can use it every time you install / try a ROM
Good luck
7720 to Tango
I have followed Jayce0oi instructions to install Mango 7004 then 7720 to HD2.
Is there a similar step by step to go from here to Tango 8773(?) as the download is in a different format, .rar as opposed to .cab, or does ...CAB-sender work with .rars also?
Jayce says ask XDA.
Apologies for ignorance!
Hey, I have this ROM and highly recommend it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833 also just follow the tutorial that you can download with the other files.

I think you should switch to this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833 (It's Tango 8773 fully unlocked)
I was under the impression that we were unable to install the new tango updates while running custom roms? Being a total noob and not knowing any better I may have done just that. Or being a complete noob I could be mistaken :silly: After screwing something up messing with registry files, yes I knew better but I couldn't resist, I did a hard reset on my Verizon Trophy running DFT Freedom ROM V5 for Spark_W with the Mango v3 Radio. Downloaded a few xaps and yep still unlocked so just for fun I ran the software updates and language packs using xboxmod's WP7 Update Cab Sender which completed with no errors. Didn't fix the Internet Sharing issue on this rom but did enable Commercial Mobile Alert System which was not included in this rom; see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546287&page=2. I am fairly sure these settings appeared before updating the radio to Mango v3. Like I said being a noob I could be completely off track but is there any other way to tell if the updates took?

No, it isn't that these updates won't work, it is that they haven't been recommended for installation (quiet a difference). The reason the driver update was always avoided, was because the WIRELESS driver would be replaced with one that wouldn't enable Internet Sharing (meaning if you installed the older driver updates, your Internet Sharing would either disappear, or simply stop working). Since this new driver enables it, it might not be a bad idea to update to it, since it fixes the random MAC address issue. Also, the recommendation was to not use Zune to update, since it will push out ALL updates.
Using WP7 Update Cab Sender is good for those who know what they are doing, but up until the Spark_W Tango update, we had no official hotspot support. Now that the hotspot support is in the driver, I don't see the issue in pushing the driver update cab (which I recently posted the link to here).
Also, if your running on a network other then Verizon, you might need to change the new default Internet Sharing settings using the info found here. If you have unlimited data go here to get it working.
You've inspired me to go ahead and push the driver update to my primary phone, worst case I can restore my backup if it kills tethering (which it shouldn't).
Looks like the driver update won't take for ansar's Tango rom. I'll need to do some testing to figure out why. Maybe it's about time I did a build of XevRev and released it for our phones. With tethering official supported, so long as I make the support universal in the WIRELESS driver, we'll have fixed tethering support.

I think an XevRev build would be highly anticipated and appreciated!!! I've been jumping through all the available custom roms for the Spark_W just to get a feel for them and trying different things out. I couldn't push ANY of the update cabs to ansars rom. I will try the driver update later with the DFT v5 and get back to you. I thank you sir for your time, your knowledge, and your hard work :good:
No luck pushing the driver update to DFT's rom either so decided to play around with the SolvZ v1 rom from DocMentalZ. Software update cabs installed no problem but still no luck with the drivers. I do like this rom especially the custom theme colors however seems to have the same problem with Internet Sharing as the DFT rom. I can't really see me using tethering it's just one of those things that if it's available I want it!!! Still, rather have the full unlock of a custom rom if I have to choose. Once again, I thank you sir :highfive:
If you pushed the OS cabs, push the updated driver for VZW Trophy as well. If the rom let you push from 8107=>8112=>8779, then you should be able to push the driver.cab after all of that (do a full backup before just in case it breaks something).
DFT v5 might work since its 8107 Mango.. but I think the leaked 8107 DFT is probably a better rom to try updating with.
Also make note of the tethering information in the post and do that if you must. To reach the programming menu, you MUST have a stock like rom installed without unlock.
I keep thinking when I do release XevRev, I'll have to have at LEAST three-five versions of it (one without full unlock but inter-op so you can use Root Tools for unlock and still have programming menu, a Full-Unlock ver 8107, and a Full-Unlock ver 8779, and a Full-Unlock with no preinstalled OEM apps).
Still no luck with OEM cabs on any custom spark_w roms. Quick question a lol off topic...Is Chevron unlock still possible if I flash back to stock?
Chevron unlock is possible, but not recommended. All fully unlocked roms have the interop unlock that chevron provides built in. I am currently working on a rom that might solve almost ALL of our problems... I'm testing the updatability right now to be sure.
All I can say it.. I figured out the source of the programming problems [it's related to XIP unlock and xap deployment] thanks to a huge help from ultrashot! Currently, I have a fully unlocked phone that can program and its updating to 8773 at this very moment (I intentionally built it on 8107 so we could install the newest HTC drivers and get the newest radio on our phones)... but it still needs a xap deployment tool.. since I had to remove all xap deployment from it to make programming work.
I'm going to try and manually deploy Bazaar to the phone in an attempt to still get xap deployment up and running from Dynamics7 manually.
I'll be testing the crap out of this and communicating further with ultrashot.. hopefully a "once and for all" solution can be found now the true problem has been identified.
8773 checked out okay with my Dynamic7's 1.21 port, now to test the new drivers with official internet sharing.
Okay, driver update failed. I'm guessing it fails because it cannot update the HSPLed bootloader.... Might need a custom driver cab that removes the SPL update and just does everything else. :/

Waiting patiently...haha. I'm just having fun playing with all the different roms and apps and reading the forums absorbing as much as I can. Your time and work, and don't forget your patience with us noobs, is greatly appreciated as is ultrashots, Heathcliffs, jaxbots, and well every d*** person that devotes their time and effort here. Sorry if I only threw out a few names but there are so many. Seriously, thank you and can't wait for the new XevRev!!!
