Fastest SMS app? - EVO 4G General

I've been using Handcent since the day I got evo, but after I upgraded to gingerbread, it just hasn't felt as fast. What SMS app is fastest?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G

Have tested the speed but I have been using gosms for over a year dont use stock messenger. Gosms has tons of features from custom rings/conversations to blacklisting color changes etc. Good solid messenger I use it try it out .

Kik messenger is the fastest best sms app by far....super fast, but other people have to have it...but well worth it

Pansi sms try it ull nvr regret
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium

i tried pansi today, it was really fast the few minutes it worked, but it quickly froze up my phone and forced closed. it happened multiple times, even after reboot.

How well do you like it?
I noticed the led isn't flashing with it.
I'm a big fan of handcent- been using it for the past year. I love the customize options it offers.

I have used it for quite awhile and really like. I also liked how you could set you default messaging to it on eclair, however have noticed on the Froyo builds it doesn't give me that option (ie... click on stock messaging app and it will open handcent). I also like the customizations that you can do for each contact along with custom notifications for each contact.

my led flashes using handcent. I really like handcent especially for the popup notifications.
I have been using handcent on my last 2 phones. I have never had any problems with it and I love the high level of customization options.
Used it and liked it a lot. I had to ditch it, though, because when my automated work pager would send out texts, it would show two. No idea why, but it was a Handcent issue.
Big fan of Handcent. I really like the popups. Been back and forth between Chomp and Handcent but have been sticking with Handcent.

I was able to set it as default for messaging icon and swipe to text on call log. Using launcherpro btw

I absolutely do not. I don't see what the point is. Tried it and went back to stock Messaging app. Nothing there for me.
Stock app wastes a lot of space with user pics. Plus limited config options.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Tried it and hated it. Never liked the bubble style messaging. I like the stock better, just seems cleaner and easier to read.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Handcent is great. You can change nearly everything, including the chat style. Chat bubbles are not the only option. There is a style that is similar to, but better than, the stock app. The mms shows up in the chat screen unlike the way the stock app does a stupid slide show. Handcent also backs up your mms, even allowing you to select the back up directory. The popup chat window is also very nice. The ablility to respond so easily is extremely useful. At first, the number of config options is overwhelming.
I use launcher pro plus on my phone. I had handcent on my evo and now on my epic. It is far superior to the oem app on both phones. Remember to disable the notifications in the stock app so you don't get double notifications. The nice thing about launcher pro, other than being much better than touchwiz in every way, is that you can set handcent to default for messaging. This completely eliminated the use of the oem app.
Epicly posted using the xda app!
+1 for handcent. Its rad! Something you don't like? There is a config option to change it more than likely.
Only beef is the outragous $6 price for pro. So many options to reset every flash. Fixed this with mybackup pro data restores.

I've tried both but prefer ChompSMS. Look into both, they're very similar.
My wife and I both love it!
It is just so customizable. The free version has worked fine for our needs.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
After seeing the advice about the settings, I'm sold on Handcent now. Takes a while to deal with all the customization in there but now that I have it looking more like the stock without the bubbles and white backgrounds it definitely is nice. The pop up on the lock screen is nice, and so is being able to select recipients instead of having to type their names. Way more features than stock.
I've use Handcent on any Android phone I've had and love it
Is there a way to set this as default when clicking the Messaging app in the dock on touchwiz? And I don't mean opening messaging then composing from handcent.

Go Sms or Handcent

Which one do u guys use and why ?
I head handcent drains battery?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I use Go SMS pro because it has a cleaner look than handcent and less laggy/buggy. Handcent is good but it force closes on me a lot and sometimes it would erase all of my messages. I just had bad experience with it
I prefer go SMS I've used both and I think go SMS feels lighter and faster.
btw I am using go SMS still
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Can't say I've tried go sms, but I've never had a single issue with handcent. I love the themes and customizations. It has been a pleasure for me to use from day 1.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I used to love Handcent, but Go SMS is better in every way. Less buggy, and just over all seems faster and less clunky. It opens up quickly and the light blue theme is verrrrrry nice and sleek/minimalistic.
ive been running handcent since i upgraded from the fender le, had no problems with it. but will definitely have to give go sms a try!
MyTouch 4g rooted, running Faux 1.2.0 AOSP 2.3.4
GoSMS although I prefer stock messaging over anything. GoSMS as noted by others is a clean/contemporary UI. I tried HandCent too but felt the menu options, especially around notifications were a little less intuitive.
GO Sms, change settings to lite version, a lot more battery friendly then handcent.

slow downs

hey so my gf has a desire z mostly because I convinced her android is the way to go, and she loves it, but recently she has been frustrated because every once in a while, usually when she uses the default messaging app or widget, it will slow way down and/or freeze, and take a few minutes to sort itself out, I suggested try handcent cause it may clean that up, but since then it has continued to happen, any suggestions? thanks!

Reboot with pulling the battery out? Many apps on it?
If you're unsure whats causing the slowdown, I'd download Watchdog Lite and see what apps are taking up the most CPU/RAM and see if removing or fixing issues with these apps will change anything.
I haven't done anything extra for her to it, no rooting, all she has done is the ovta 2.2.1 update and download apps, just simple ones like backgrounds, schedules/notes, and games, and okay thanks I'll try downloading that app to see
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
When having that version of Android I had some slow downs when using animated wallpapers, they clogged the memory also until it froze. Using normal, steady backgrounds took care of it.
I also have advanced task manager installed (free from market), it has a widget, clicking on it frees memory and speeds up the phone.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I like the wallpaper idea but I have heard from many places that task killers use more battery cause most apps will just start up again, but if it stops the freezing maybe it's a necessary trade off
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yeah, Froyo is supposed to be much better with ram management so task managers are not required. Its very likely to be a misbehaving app in the background.
Failing that, factory reset to rule out an failed ota.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
How many text messages does she have on the phone? I think this is a known issue, for people with a ridiculous mount of SMS messages.

Don't use task managers. They're unnecessary and like you said can hurt more than they help more often than not.
Check out an app like Watchdog, that doesn't kill anything it'll just show you if something is eating too much CPU, so you can remove or change it. Also, lots of messages or long long threads can slow it down too.
so I got her to use watch dog and she just texted me saying that it popped up and messaging was over the cs threshold, and I do think she has a ton of messages, I'll tell her that deleting them could fix it, thanks!

You can customize what the threshold is. I think its like 20% or 30% by default. Kinda surprising that very rarely happens. If she deletes all messages and it still happens I'm really not sure.
She has a desire z. Its sense slowing it down. Not android. I remember this happening to me when i use to have it. Root that badboy and slap cyanogen mod on it. I can guarantee you it'll be waaay faster, not to mention the battery life will be better.

While the Sense launcher is a bit laggy and resource hungry, it sounds like the OP has something going on far beyond just Sense. Sense itself does not cause the Messaging app to lockup for minutes, and it seems to be a problem that has developed over time.
My personal preference is "System Monitor". It doesn't kill anything and does everything watchdog and a little more. It costs tho

You were previously talking about flashing CM7. If the HTC SMS app is indeed the problem, you don't need to flash a new ROM to get away from it. Yes, the HTC SMS app is not great, but neither is the stock AOSP one. I've been using the stock Sense ROM for the most part since December, with Chomp SMS and see absolutely no slow down. Plus, I've tried CM7 and other ROMs, and there is no significant affect on battery life. If the OP's GF wants to stay on Sense, its really overkill to recommend ROM flashing. Its pretty apparent from the most recent posts deleting some messages will likely fix the problem.

5000 is a bit much. If its just a case of not being bothered to delete old messages (I have the same problem, but delete in the hundreds still) I could recommend the "Delete old messages" function which will automatically keep the thread down to size.

Yup I believe I know why. You restored it from a different version. If you either freeze it and update it, or delete and re-install from the market, you should be good to go.
Nope, that is installed from the market. I never had Handcent before

Looking for faster SMS experience

I am new to the G2 and am trying to find a ROM that is lag free. Ive loved this phone but the lag i experience on the Messaging app. I am coming from the HTC ONE which was lag free but I love this phone other than this lag. Currently on CLeanRom but I was hoping someone could suggest some pros and cons or make any suggestions to give me the best experience possible on this device..

There's a app called 8sms on the play store which is a slightly modified CM messaging app, doesn't get much faster and simple than stock or at least stock style.
