A Whole New Bricked World - Kindle Fire General

Hey guys-
Think I've done it this time. I have a paperweight aka kindle fire that isn't recognized by adb. It shows up as a device in windows as a kindle when I plug it in, but nothing beyond that. I have searched high and low and found no other post/forum that mentions my issue or shows a working fix...
When I plug in the kindle to the computer, I get a green light on the power button, (I suppose indicating the kindle is charged) and if I hold down/push the power button when it is plugged in, nothing happens. If it is unplugged, I can push the power button, it turns green, and after two seconds, it turns off again. No yellow fire triangle, no nothing on the screen. I have used the kfu utility 25+ times without a hitch, trying out all the cool stuff around the forums, and never run into a problem like this. If I could just get windows or adb to recognize the device, I could easily fix the problem myself, I just can't get it to that point.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it-
EDIT: It seems as if the backlight is stuck in the on position...hard to tell but i'm pretty sure thats what it is...the screen is obviously black and you cant tell unless your in a closet...

If its anything like the problem I've repeatedly run into, it failed to shut down correctly. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to force it off and retry booting.

Alright problem solved. I'm going to go dig a hole, and bury myself.

It's funny - I go to some other forums and I run across people posting stuff like "don't Root your Kindle Fire - just look at XDA and most of the threads are about someone who Bricked it" . I think a lot of people read the thread titles but never bother to read any further to find out that 99% of the time the "Bricked" Kindle Fire was working again fine pretty quickly.

kindle fire refuses to boot.

I installed cyanogen and TWRP on my fire a couple days ago. It was working fine but today i was playing a game boy emulator and it shut off on me. the battery was completely dead at the time (i was playing plugged into a wall, and it had been totally dead for about half an hour) so i figured i just bumped the cable or something, the problem is it won't charge. when i plug it in to a wall, PC, what have you. it boots to the fire logo and asks me to press power to enter recovery (as it should) but then it just turns off and shows the same screen. i left it alone for an hour and it was still doing this. when i try to power on without being plugged in absolutely nothing happens. I've tried my usb cord and two different chargers, all of which work with my phone perfectly.
i think this is a hardware issue(please tell me otherwise) which would suck because I'm pretty sure everything i did voided my warranty. any suggestions or am i just boned?
well i contacted customer support and they didn't seem to care at all about the root, they told me it was a battery issue and are sending me a new one. good news for anyone wondering if rooting voided warranties, it doesn't.
That's great to hear that Amazon isn't going to be a **** about it. It is one thing if someone screws it up because they rooted but a hardware issue is a hardware issue and it is a good sign that they are not looking to screw you merely because you happened to have rooted coincidentally to having gotten a dud unit.
this same thing happened to me it seems. I was playing a game and my KF died. so I charged it for awhile but now its in the same type of weird loop, just like yours. Even after successfully issuing commands to change the bootmode etc, which I can only do like 1% of the time since it keeps rebooting. Hope its not a hardware issue though
it is a hardware issue, at least thats what amazon said. i fixed mine yesterday though, plug it in wait for the loop BS to start and hold the power button until it stops completely, then wait about 20 seconds release and press the power button again. I've had to do this twice today too, so definitely get a new one sent out, but it works for now.
I wonder how friendly Amazon will be after replacing a few thousand of these because people are screwing them up???

There are a lot of "I bricked my device" threads but the vast majority are having driver issues or stuck in the wrong boot mode. Almost everyone I have seen posting with a problem gets it sorted out and has their Kindle Fire working again.
The OP here appears to have a genuine hardware problem, according to Amazon, and didn't "screw anything up".

Hello all, I'm curious to hear your thoughts and advice.
My nook is completely unresponsive. It is not stuck at rooted forever.
In fact this has nothing with a root attempt/reset/restore/power on.
I had done a a fresh reset/root with touchnooter about four months ago and was happily and smoothly reading for about two months. I then got busy and put the nook down, did not touch or use for about another two months. I tried to use it about a week ago but found that it had run out of battery in sleep after the two months of disuse (not surprising). I put it on charge overnight and everything booted right and functioned well once it turned on, except that the battery indicator in the statusbar showed a "?" and the battery info in system info showed 100% "unknown". After alot of fruitless research I put it down with the intention of reset/restore/root when I had the time.
I just picked it up this morning and was faced with the expected "Press then button below to wake up your NOOK" screen. But when I pressed the "n" button nothing happened. Obviously holding the "n" did nothing as well.
I tried to power it off and on- nothing
holding power for 20- nothing
power for 30- nothing
8 failed boots- nothing
left right- nothing
left right power-nothing
random pushing and holding of power- nothing
all these with mem card in and out- nothing
all these plugged usb- nothing
all these pugged ac- nothing
I let it charge some more- nothing
None of the buttons do anything, the screen stays inevitably at the " press the n button to wake" screen. no activity whatsoever except that when It is plugged in, the green light shows. NO ORANGE LIGHT... it is fully charged by both usb and ac.
It is not detected at all by windows anywhere.
In Linux- lsusb, bklid, and df -h yield nothing. My nook might as well be the invisible stupid ereader.
I did not drop it, sumbmerge it, perform magic around it... It has been sitting on a shelf doing nothing.
To repeat, the only thing my nook does is light up green when plugged.
It is unchangeably stuck on poe's face...
If this isn't true brick, I don't know what is.
I'm exhausted. Any ideas? I appreciate the help.

i don't know. i just know my dog ate mine and i'm now in the market for a new screen, so if you don't get it working sell me the unit and get some money for yourself to purchase a new one =D
or you could google the disassembly instructions and try unplugging the battery, not very hard to do. could be of .. some help perhaps?
I would definitely take you up on your offer, but i'm still under warranty.
However, I would still like to have my original, and figure out what is going on and why it happened.
Ideas?

THIS WAS A POST FROM ANOTHER SITE AS TO MY PROBLEM:
I was reading on my N2E last night. I put it down for about 30 minutes and when I came back it was displaying the default "Authors" screensaver (I had switched to the Nature photos) and asking to slide to unlock. I thought, "Oh, the new software update must have downloaded and installed. I'll check it out." To my shock, the touch screen was completely unresponsive--no amount of swiping would unlock from the screen saver. I let it set for a while longer thinking perhaps the softare update was not yet finished. No such luck.
As a result of the new update, my NOOK is now completly DEAD! I tried powering off, but couldn't do that because you are asked to confirm power off on the touchscreen, which no longer works. So, I looked online and tried the soft reset/reboot by holding down the "Home" or "n" button and then pressing the power button for several seconds. Great--it started rebooting...and came right back to the "authors" screen saver and asking to swipe to unlock. I tried this rebooting process several times, always with the same result: back to screeensaver mode with completely unresponsive touchscreen.
So, looked at the online technical troubleshooting discussion and helps and decided to try a downloaded manual install of the software update. Plugged my NOOK into my computer and it recognized it. So, I downloaded the manualo software update and dragged and dropped it onto the NOOK as directed and sure enough, it started to reboot itself. I thought, "whew, maybe this will fix it". NOPE--came right back to the locked screensaver, with no mention of attempting to update software, and the touchscreen is still dead. (By the way, all of this was done initially with the NOOK showing about 94% charged, so it was not a battery issue.)
Reconnected the NOOK to my computer and the software update file was gone from its home directory, which implies it did something with it. So, I tried repeatedly to install the software update manually, always with the same result: NOOK comes back to locked default "authors" screensaver wtih a dead touchscreen.
Looked online for B&N technical support again saw that others had this problem (though only found a couple references). Found the instructions to do a factory reset and reluctantly tried that, desparate to make my NOOK work again, but frustrated that if it did I would have to rebuild everyting on it and download my 400+ B&N book library all over again. But, guess what, factory reset just comes up to the "Welcome to your all-new NOOK" screen (sounds like progress), BUT the touchscreen is STILL dead, so I can't hit the "Next" button onscreen to proceed with setting up my factory-reset NOOK. Tried rebooting again (as this seems to be the only solution offered in the online tech support) and now it just keeps coming back to the "Welcome to your all-new NOOK" screen with a dead touchscreen keeping me from doing anything.
So, now I am taking it back to my local B&N store in hopes they will exchange it for a new NOOK.
I really want to see a feature to disable automatic updates in the future. I specifically didn't download and manually install when the update came out, figuring I'd wait for the automatic download to give time to B&N to work out the bugs and perhaps issue a patch (as they have done in the past for the N1E). Instead I get no warning about the automatic download (happens while I am reading and set the NOOK aside for 30 minutes), and then the update KILLS my NOOK.
I am not a satisfied NOOK customer at this point.

The factory restore does not actually fix every possible problem with your Nook.
If your Nook responds at all, try to boot it up on an SD card like ClockworkMod or noogie.
At least that way you can see what is happening.
The partitioning might have become corrupted which the "factory restore" does not touch.
If no response with anything, try disconnecting the battery.
You might also try booting over USB using the techniques in rooting the new white glow.
Hello I was wondering if I'm just screwed I bought 2 nook simple touch, one for me and one for a present to my mother for her birthday on march 16. I bought them at best buy for $40 a piece on January 30. I used mine and was perfect but when I tried to set up my mom it wouldn't load the license agreement, always got stuck or reboot or something, so I loaded cwm on an sd card just to play around, tested on my nook and was fine, then put it on my moms nook booted once then I didn't press anything and turn it off then I load the image but when I tried to boot again it got stuck on the load screen and wont do anything, no reset sequence will work with the sd card on or off the other nook boots with this sd card. at the end I exchanged with my mom she is happy with her nook an I have a useless unit do you think they will exchange it I didn't rooted it or did anything to it but has the n cwm splash on screen forever. I'm in Costa Rica right now and wont return home until May do you think I'll might be able to exchange it or should I just try to repair it.

You say that that one will boot on your CWM SD card, but yours won't?
It may be hard to get your unit exchanged with a conspicuous screen on it, even if it's not your fault.
When you plug it into your desktop is there any indication of a new USB device found?
If it's charged and no amount of the power button gets a reaction, I'd open it up.

There are times when a Nook gets in a mode where it won't accept a charge.
Opening it up and disconnecting the battery for a minute might fix this.

When this worked for you did the light turn orange right when you plugged the battery back in? I just took the battery out, plugged the nook into a charger, and with it plugged in plugged the battery back in and the light stays green the whole time yet I'm not able to use the nook at all.
My nook second generation is not responding to my touch I tried everything to get it to work and I eventually got it to completely power of what if it does not work when I turn it on what should I do
It could be power/battery problems.
Check to see if it makes itself known when the USB is plugged in.
If it reacts at all, that's an indication of life.

Bricked KF no longer working or being recognized.

A couple of months ago i bricked my brother kindle fire, I can't remember exactly what firmware etc I had to used on it, since i'm not a KF user myself. He came to me the other day saying that his kindle was no longer working any more.
Now this time, I have no idea what is wrong with it, the rom used had like a logo with a yellow triangle and fire sign in the middle.
The problem:
The KF is no longer recognized by the computer, I can't seem to get in via adb,
tried hard reset too...
The kindle periodically once plugged in turn on with the yellow triangle and fire logo from the rom and then turn black like it's off every second or so.
Is there a fix to my problem? and how?

it's probably stuck in fastboot. there's should be a thread in the development forum about how to fix it. I think you have to reinstall the drivers for an adv device.

dead battery - the kf is constantly rebooting, does nothing if pluggend out - right ?
would suggest to charge it with the wall charger for some hours - best over night
if you use a replacement charger take care it is strong enough - has to have ~2A or it will not work

Kindle Fire NEVER ROOTED OR TAMPERED WITH in boot loop!

Ok so I have been reading around and most of what I found about my specific problem (boot loop with never putting any custom restore or root or ANYTHING on it) was pretty much was useless. I am not a complete beginner I have put custom mods on many of my devices, defy, atrix, dell streak, ect, and I have used ADB among other things (not that I am a pro at it mind you!)

What happened is (to my knowledge) my daughter was playing with it, and the next morning, it was boot looping, and quickly. So when I turn it on, it shows kindle fire then goes black, then repeats or once in a while will make it to the slide to unlock but 2-3 seconds after goes black and continues the bootloop
ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!
I recommend giving Amazon a call and get the device replaced.... If you still have a warranty?

Why would I even try to fix it if I had a warrant? .... thanks anyways...
so ive downloaded the drivers and its basically not working, and the method for deleting the drivers (the one some idiot posted at least) will only work IF THE DEVICE STAY CONNECTED... Which it obviously isnt... and the 3-4 seconds of it saying KINDLE FIRE isnt long enough for me to find it in the device manager... by the time that updates its already rebooting...
so please anybody.... i dont understand why it would be so difficult.... I JUST NEED A RECOVERY I DONT NEED ANY OF MY STUFF
I have tried running ADB shell it says device not found....
If it is a hardware problem, then flashing is pointless. It did this on its own. Processor or board issue. Given the variety of things I see posted, hardware is an issue at least 1/3 of the time, my guess.

I would agree with you but i had installed some apps prior that seemed to make it glitchy and slow, and my daughter probably just triggered something (she is 3 and just constantly opens and taps things, i caught her in settings before) ... im pretty positive its software, especially since I read a few people with the same exact symptoms of mine... (it shows logo then reboots repeatedly, but sometimes makes it to the slide screen for like 4 seconds then it goes back to boot loop) Im sure I could fix it but I need help with getting my ADB in order or im screwed xD

Have you tried a hard reset (hold the power button down for 30 seconds then power back on)? That should clear any stuck apps. It also sounds similar to a low power boot loop. If you haven't tried charging it you might want to put it on the charger overnight and see what that does. Other than that I don't know why a stock KF would bootloop.

I have tried all of that, many times in fact. I also think its odd that it got stuck in a bootloop but from what ive read stock KF do that sometimes and its usually as simple as changing the way it boots which is why I think the factory cable is what I really need...

You don't know whether or not your fastboot drivers are working because you must first put the device into fastboot mode to see if Windows will load the appropriate drivers.
Your problem is that on a stock device unable to boot into the system, 2 out of the 4 possible ways of putting the KF into fastboot mode are unavailable to you. The remaining options are to use a factory cable or to crack the case open to get access to the motherboard.

There's another thread on the forums here about someone who disconnected the battery and hardwired it to a charger, but that seems like a really bad idea to me. A factory cable is your best/safest first step to getting out of your situation.

Hello, first let me apologize for making another thread on a possibly bricked tablet. Also I apologize if I didn't post this in the right place, being new and all. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to look at this.
My situation:
My tablet has been working fine until last night; it's been dropped once before from a substantial height (over 5 feet), and luckily only my screen cracked, which I replaced. This time however it fell about 2-3 feet from my bed, most likely landed on the power button side, and now it won't turn on.
The Power Light comes on
It vibrates
The backlight does NOT come on. No words. No logos. Nothing.
I tried plugging it into my computer but nothing happens. It's not rooted (as far as I know), and I don't think I had debugging on. It had Android 3.2.1 on it I believe; my computer is Win 7 64.
Edit: I was able to get another computer to recognize it, a Win 7 and 8. They both have it pop up as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and as a portable media device, but when I open it it says its Empty... no folders, nothing.
At this point I would just like to know if there is anyway to get the personal data off of it, there are a few documents that I had not backed up yet that I would really like, that were not on my external SD card. If its possible to get it working again that would be great too, but I've come to terms with the fact it might never. (I'm half tempted to strip it to the screen again and put it back, just to see if that might make it work...)
Edit 2 (sorry if anything sounds confusing): I don't know if this is helpful or not, but the tablet "sounds" like it goes to my lock screen (powers up, vibrates, wait a minute or two and then really softly vibrates again), although I still can't see anything. The power light then goes out, but if I put my ear to the open back I can "hear" it working. If I leave it alone and plugged in, the power light will flash from orange to white every couple of minutes (it will also do this unplugged). Also if I press the power button it will turn white, acting like its sleeping and I've woken it (this occurs whether plugged in or not), but I still have a black screen. Does this mean it might not be dead?
Can the screen be broken with no visible cracks or damage inside?
Another note, when I replaced my cracked screen when it fell those 5 feet about a year ago, I never changed the green piece (which I am assuming is the touch screen controller?) with the new one that came with the new screen+digitizer. Could that be acting up now?
I'll try and see if I can get my hands on a micro HDMI to test and see if it will show up on my TV/Computer. It should just be plug and go right? No setting that needs to be turned on?
