You could try it if your tablet is rooted. Even easier now the paulburton has build a CWM flashable zip.

Barely white blocks? Do you think that that is because it's not a finished build?

There are no white rendering blocks in ICS - they have changed the way the pages are rendered it seems.
Now rather than redrawing the part of the page you scroll down to, it is already rendered, but left in a very low rez state which becomes full rez once the page has stopped moving
If you scroll up and down quickly you can see the text and images on the page very blurry low rez

If you want to use the browser you can just use one of the custom ROMS and use the ICS theme. Using revolver and ICS Theme and it at least looks and definitely feels like ICS browser. The settings are a bit different, it's faster, and flash works better too. At least, it worked much better then it did when I was on stock rom.

Man I'm starting to be excited about ICS. I just strayed over to the Xoom forums and they have like 6 ICS ports plus an official leak now and all they can say is "this feels like a new, much faster tablet etc"

Really? Wow I had no idea it was that much of a difference. At least on Revolver and OC the tablet flies. Pages, scrolling, browser, everything. I will definitely keep root with ICS. ICS needs to hurry up . If I get too impatient I guess I might have to try the early build. Anyone know if ICS fixes the extra bar added to the task bar once you use HDMI cable. That's really annoying.

I really hope so. It's super annoying!

I'm pretty sure that extra bar is there to keep the ratio when you're mirroring. No amount of software updates is going to put more pixels on your tv to avoid that.

Yes, this is unavoidable. For those of you who hook your laptop up to your TV via HDMI, this happens during this as well. I'm staring at the black bars right now actually as I type this post.

[Q] Smoothness... I want more

I just got my TF 6 hrs ago and I am not impressed with how smooth the main screens are when scrolling sideways. It looks like it is stuttering. I want it as smooth as my Pyromod G2.
I was hoping that the 3.1 update fixes this but I just got the update and still stuttering.
Is there any solution other than rooting and overclocking to the max. Is there a launcher settings that I can adjust?
My home screen is really smooth. But I am using regular wallpaper and not the live one.
I guess the first thing to do would be to use the same launcher if it's supported on Honeycomb. I like the HC launcher myself. Every now and then it's a little slow when it first gets going or after being off for a while but nothing that effects usability. I guess the issue might be that you're comparing a hacked, customized and tweaked Android 2.x device moving 800x480 pixels to a whole new unmodified factory OS moving 1200x800 pixels so I would sort of expect it to be a little less optimized from the get go.
I'm running the Primordial 3.1 build right now with the OC kernel at 1.4 GHz and everything just moves right along for me.
So might want to start with apples to apples and go from there.
I noticed my Transformer had started feeling really sluggish and I hadn't even installed much. I was rebooting often and it seemed to help a little for a short time. Then I just removed an application I installed recently and wow, performance was smooth again.
That app was TweetCaster Pro, something I grabbed as a free app of the day from the Amazon Appstore. Don't know if it was just that app or maybe some weird combination that didn't like each other. *shrug* But things are a lot smoother. So it might be worth looking at some of your apps, especially those that install background services that like to look for updates frequently.
ADW EX you won't get any smoother than that
For twitter i use Tweetcomb, totally awesome
LauncherPro also runs really smooth on Tegra devices.
Stock Google launchers typically aren't very smooth, especially on a brand new chipset.
does other launcher show the app icon as big as hc stock launcher? more icon and widget sure will slow down the animation, but I found that by tapping the most left or right side of the screen will take you to other page with faster animation n of course it is smoother
mine is really smooth...probably one of the apps you installed is not getting along well with the honeycomb

With ADW EX you can change the size of the icons to any size you want!
Change the icon to any picture.
Change the speed of the animation.
Change the bounce!
The only thing ADW EX doesn't do is hold it for you when you take a leak
I currently have 7 pages 5 of which are full of widgets (and i mean full), no sticking EVER

It was still a virgin TF but it was not meeting my expectations. Maybe because I am used to a smother one.
Anyway, I installed Launcher Pro Plus, (I remember I purchased this before) and the performance improved a little bit. I wonder if the ADW EX is better.
I really don't want to root this TF but I really crave the smoothness that I find in my G2 so I have no choice but to root it when I get my extra Micro SDHC. BTW, does the new ROMS support/Include ASUS MyCloud, MyNet, .. etc.
Also, I've read that Netflix and Yahoo Messenger Video chat isn't fully working yet.
All in all, other than those intangible (software) shortcomings I still like the TF hardware. Softwares will get fixed soon, but crappy hardware will stay crappy forever in the tablet world.
The rooted roms are all up to date and are built using the OTA releases so yea all the asus software is still included
Try turning off the animations.
Live wallpapers murder performance. If you select a static one, your performance will be far better. Next would be widgets; try and keep them to a minimum if you can.

TouchWiz UX on Galaxy Tab 10.1

*UPDATE*
I have updated my thread in development with a download and guide for installing TouchWiz UX on our Tab 10.1's.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15516290#
Okay this is getting ridiculous...!
Currently there is a TouchWiz UX rom avaliable for...
Asus EeePad:

Acer A500:

Tab 10.1v:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155023
All of which appear to be based off a 3.1 Rom for OUR device... So why is it I can't find a single thing about installing 3.1 TouchWiz UX on OUR 10.1!?
i feel you brother this is crazy no devs i guess on the 10.1 i need to start going to school and learn my self lol
That's okay. I'm pretty meh regarding TouchWiz. Has kept me away from sammy phones. I know, ROMS, but when you lean over the bleeding edge, there are no ROMS.
Just saw this video that shows all the features of touchwiz. I don't care how much people want to know it. If half the stffntheynjust showed works without force closing I'll beeee soooool stoked. It impressed the pants off me. http://youtu.be/hlLP3RXkmUQ
" hang on to your dookie, its about to get spooky "
Yay! Managed to get it booting on my tab.
I've been using it about 15 minutes and I love it! The book reader is great... I love the bounce scrolling and the new colours are very nice. Everything has a better feel and still seems super fast.
I might get some instructions up tomorrow for how I did it. Bed time for me now though.
The thing I want to know is if it has improved video playback.
Sent from my Fascinate with MIUI Gingerbread
I'm looking forward to the Allshare app, official DLNA support, the Media hub, and the mini app tray/bar.
It definitely adds another level to the tablet and will impress many consumers. I haven't actually owned anything Samsung beside cameras but I'm impressed so far with this tablet.

I have a 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Touchwiz (sold in Sweden).
While I don't mind some of the apps that Touchwiz brings I hate their OS-wide changes, while iOS-style overscrolling doesn't really change anything their altering of default UI element does. They have changed buttons, dialogs, menus, fonts and more making many applications look odd as they don't have the same design as Samsungs own apps.
They have also changed they background of the status bar so when it is in "light out" mode it is still very noticeable (default is completely black, Samsung is grey with a light border on top). This is very annoying when watching movies!
All in all I rather be without Touchwiz.
It's only a theme - it'll be customizable at some point

My only annoyance with TouchWiz UX so for is that it has that gray bar at the bottom rather than black... I get that it fits there theme but black still blends in the the tablet better... We'll be able to change that later though once the rom is deodex..
Aside from that I love all the other changes. Everything just looks more 'styled' and less 'neon' which I love.
Their eBook application is the best app I've ever used on Android.. except maybe Tasker..
Social Hub app is a great Twitter/Facebook integration.
Their widgets are very cool except they seem to slow down the homescreen a tad due to their large size (don't worry! you can always remove them )
The mini apps are so very cool. You can bring up a little calculator/note taking app/calendar/and more and move it to the side of the screen and keep interacting with whatever app you're running under it while it stays on the screen! Awesome feature that Google should definitely look at adding.
Copy and Paste now has a large clipboard that you can build up multiple items on!
There are even problems in Honeycomb 3.1 that are now fixed
e.g. In 3.1 stock if you want to change your lockscreen wallpaper to a custom image from your gallery you had to go to settings> display>screen settings>lockscreen wallpaper now you can do it from the top-right Plus or long-press home screen
The browser is actually smoother and handles pinch gestures much better and has some cool new features you can enable in settings.
There is motion control like tilting your tablet to change homescreens when placing a widget
The quick control toggles are much faster and to get into Settings is now only 2 taps rather than 3.. another thing Honeycomb should have had from the start.
And much more things that I'm missing... This is definitely an upgrade.
I'm uploading a rom now and will update my Thread in development when it's uploaded so everyone can flash TouchWiz UX.

Update with Download and Guide
Hey I have updated my Development post with a download and guide for flashing TouchWiz to our Tab's... Check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15516290#
Any update on when touchwiz will officially be released for us? I know Samsung set the hard date of "coming soon", but I didn't know if there was any further update.
The screenshot button is useless and gets in the way. If the screenshot app was combined with the note app it would be great. You would pop up the notes and annotate whatever is on the screen and save it all.
why is everything so fricken big? I dont see the reasoning behind all the text being like 90pt font...

Get rid of TouchWiz update?

How can I get back to before I updated this morning my galaxy tab 10.1? I hate the new white all over and want to go back.
No way back.... Besides installing CWM and flashing back to a previous version of 3.1... I don't care so much about the color but really enjoying the smooth homescreen.

Things that I love about ICS:

1) my bookmarks are finally syncing with google in the stock browser. Never did in honeycomb
2) browser speed. Much better rendering
3) request desktop version in stock browser finally
4) gallery has a better look to it with the larger tiles
5) speed of ics makes my xoom seem like a new upgraded tablet
6) ics just feels more polished
7) no more keyboard lag
8) better email and calendar support
9) ice cream is just tastier in real life than honeycomb.
+1 on that. I love ICS on my xoom.

1)I have two Google accounts and for some inexplicable reason only one account comes up in the browser when it comes to syncing; the one that I don't use on my laptop. The account I use on my laptop doesn't even appear in the settings menu in the browser. And yes, 'Sync Browser' is checked under the intended account and unchecked on the other one in the 'Accounts' menu. Maybe I have to clear the cache
2)Agreed!
3)I had to do this for each website (unless there's something I'm missing but I'm definitely happy to see this option
4)I preferred the 3D gallery but to each their own.
5)I would have been very pleased with Honeycomb had it been as smooth and polished as ICS. ICS makes Honeycomb seem even more like a half-assed OS...but I digress.
6)+1
7)Keyboard lag was another one of my numerous pet peeves in Honeycomb. I love the new keyboard and the suggested words up top. The keyboard is already too big for me to comfortably tap the suggested words up top regularly but it's nice to have them there.
8)+1
9)Overall, ICS is what Honeycomb should have been. In it's defense, they used what was actually right with Honeycomb and used it as a foundation for ICS and the end result is great! Shouts to Team EOS for their hard work in bringing ICS to us while we're still young!
Agree with the OP. The only thing I can't stand is why they can't make icons that are the same size. I personally don't like how the camera icon is so huge but the other icons are a little bit smaller.
Is it that hard?
I'm running ICS on my Xoom and no complaints so far.
to add to the list
1. the name....
2. no more keyboard lag
3. no more green
i rooted my Samsung Galaxy Fit GT 5670 with ICS ...
ICS looks better and faster the Gingerbread 2.3.6 ...
may be the port which i got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429171&page=6# is bit unstable ... still having issues with camera ...
but overall i'm having to ICS over gingerbread ....

Agreed, really happy with ICS on my Xoom, using EOS nightly 17 at the moment.

what do you think about the new official ics?

Well i already installed it wit infamous 2 but i dont like it. I think touchwiz in this rom look horrible, with colors that in personal i dont like it. And many features like face unlock are not in this upgrade. What do you think?
Other than face unlock, for which I have absolutely no use for, whats missing?
+ Beats HC and the former ICS/JB custom ROMS by a mile.
+ Runs great, especially the browser.
+ Looks good, but I like stock JB better, nothing to bad though.
too big font, too bright color, ugly locking screen, lost about 200MB RAM.
All other things are great.
Its touchwiz again. I think it looks horrible and i hope cm10 will get the camera drivers soon.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
As far as performance is concerned it is great, a big step forward compared to previous ROMs or other custom firmware. Unfortunately, it is bloated with Touchwiz apps which are not necessary since there are Google equivalent apps that do the job perfectly well.
However, the biggest issue for me is the fact that it has no consistent user interface, a problem common to all non-stock Android versions. The Samsung apps have their own Touchwiz user interface while all other apps use the standard ICS user interface elements and colours. Some system elements like the Settings panel and various pop up windows utilise the Touchwiz graphical elements while others the standard ICS elements. Even the arrows that allow the user to select a piece of text look completely different depending on whether one is running a Samsung app or a standard Android one!
In my opinion, it is important for an OS which depends heavily on the user interface, like tablet and phone OSes, to have a common and standard look and feel not only for cosmetic purposes but also to ensure that the users are not confused and all apps look consistent with a specific design philosophy so that users can easily locate menus and other elements. This is the biggest failure of Touchwiz and as a result the overall look and feel of this firmware is strange with bright and colourful user interface elements when Touchwiz is used and dark black and blue elements when running standard Android apps.
Notice here that I am not judging the quality of Touchwiz vs standard ICS and some people prefer the one instead of the other. I am saying that whatever the choice of user inteface it has to be consistent throughout the system and third-party apps. Personally, I prefer the standard ICS user inteface but this is not the point of my argument.
I hope that third-party Android developers will use the updated libraries of this firmware as well as the camera drivers to produce a fully functioning standard ICS or Jelly Bean ROM through projects like CM9/CM10 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

I am one of those who actually MUCH prefer Touchwiz and the other Samsung apps, added settings and personalizations (for example the overlay mini-apps and the now configurable screenshot button are extremely handy and I hate the "2-steps" notification bar in non-TW ROMs) so for me this ROM is GREAT.
I have never been interested in the least in face-unlock, I have always used the pattern lockscreen.
What I would have liked to see in this ROM are the SIM application toolkit, the numbers top row in the keyboard (like in all the recent Samsung keyboards) and the battery percentage.
P.S. that said, if the G.Tab 10.1 isn't going to get an official JB update from Samsung I am sure that at some point, once it matures, I will go back to CM10...

I'm as happy as a pig in ****, now I might use it for more than a glorified Netflix machine.
That was the thing with the custom ICS/JB roms is that they were so unstable and brought literally nothing to the table besides being someone else's opinion on what they thought I wanted.
I want stability and I want good, official looking apps. Not File Manager HD with its advertising aids and not some bright ass boot animation that blinds me every time I have to reboot because it froze overnight.
But I digress.
I think this release by Samsung is quite amazing, and it will hold me off long enough till I decide to buy a newer model Galaxy Tab.
At the rate Samsung is going they are going to be my new favorite company. Not just because of this update, for numerous other dealings as well.

The new version is definitely a step ahead. It seems Swype is usable now, although it still lags a bit but at least it can keep up with typing for me not like earlier versions.
I also like it and I guess touchwiz is inevitable. Desktop customization has been upgraded too which is very useful.
If something else could be asked is a tad more smoothness when switching desktops and probably one last push update to jelly bean for increased smoothness.
We'll see in the coming days with extended use. For.me :good:
Am I the only one havin' problems playin' some HD videos in the youtube app? (Factory Reset done after odin flash) My old SGS running ICS is capable of doin' that.

the ugliness of the Samsung 4.0.4 really disturbs me...
Was Samsung smoking pot in the many months spent on making it on to 10.1?

It doesn't work for me too. I can enter numbers and other symbols, but I cannot enter any letters.
Edit: It turned out, that using Swype instead of Samsung keyboard, works great in the Terminal Emulator.
new ics samsung
iI like it, very stable and with best email stock client that I never see.
I really am digging it. My only complaint so far is how close the notification icons are to each other.

same problem here ...
The only thing that i complain in this new build, is there are some games that aren't working. For example Mass Effect (GooglePlay obviously) it works on CM9, however doesn't on the Samsung rom (both 4.04).

no problems whatsoever here and what "problems" are you two talking about exactly?
P.S. and I watch a lot of Youtube videos on the tab

Yes!!! This was probably the first thing I checked once the install had finished. I love Swype but it was pretty much unusable in stock HC on the tab. No more automatic deleting of the last two characters when typing a search into the browser!!!
From my perspective it's a it early to give an opinion but it's looking good so far although my quadrant score has taken a nosedive (yes, I know that doesn't mean anytihgn in reality)
Lagging playback on some HD videos.
