Amazon paid apps on CM7? - Kindle Fire General

So things have been looking good on the CM7 thread so I decided to give it a shot last night. Everything works great, except I cant seem to access apps I've purchased through the amazon app store, searching for them even brings empty results! I've searches around the forums and I cant find a fix for this.
Could someone point me in the right direction?

Try clearing the app data for the Amazon App Store app.

Already tried that :/

Have you tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it?

Yup, still no difference.
Edit: as a side thought, could someone link me to a known working amazon apk?

are u referring to the kindle fire specific apps? yep that doesnt work.

I believe they all may have been Kindle Fire editions. So I'm SOL for the moment then?
Has anyone looked into this at all? Does it have something to do with how CM7 identifies itself with the Amazon servers?

I installed CM7 today and the Amazon App Store works fine for me. HERE is my copy of the app if you want to try it.

Reflashed and wiped everything just now (switched to a restore of my original), your app was a different version then I had, but still doesn't work. When I first login it tells me I have 51 new apps to install, then when I go to "MyApps", only 42 show up.
Are any of your apps Kindle Fire editions? I bought a bunch of Kindle Fire Edition games when I first got this..lol
Any Ideas if this would resolve it?:

If you have rootexplorer, you can pull the apps from the /system/app in the stock rom and move them to a folder on the sd card. That way you can reinstall them on cm7. Used this trick to get plants vs zombie kindle fire edition on cm7. Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm sure that'd be a useful work around. But it's funner to try to get things working the right way!
Last night I sorted out some issues getting USB debugging working on CM7(turns out it was 0xD34D's kernal breaking that for me..), and went through MaxRabbit's guide on changing your IMEI/build.prop. I noticed today that whatever is in the "Device_Model" field directly reflects as your device name in Amazon. I believe the solution to this may be pulling more of the original info from the stock build.prop file. I'm going to restore my stock backup and see what I can figure out today.
I'm at a loss on how to change the serial number though.. guess thats two things to start cracking on, lol Hopefully not too tough.

would the build.prop from the 6.2.1 from amazon be helpful ?
have the update extracted on my hd and could upload the files you need
this could avoid the need that you reflash to stock

I'd appreciate it if you could upload them!
Save me a few steps

here the build.prop - any other files ?

My current build.prop(cm7+MaxRabbits guide) is on the left, stock is on the right. Guess I'll just start changing things and hope nothing breaks. I'm gonna restore my stock back up and check if some of the values change from kindle to kindle as well though to be diligent.
Any tips would be gladly appreciated!

don't think that something in the build.prop changes from kindle to kindle
this file is from the amazon update and the same for all
if you don't change it the date and size stays the same - it's never changed

I've went through and systematically changed everything in my build.prop and nothing fixed it. I have 5 new "TI Full Android on Blaze or SDP" devices in my Amazon device list, so it definitely looks at the build.prop file though. I'm thinking other changes are necessary as well though. I'm wondering when you register it registers your specific IMEI to your account, when I click "manage" on my original "Vincent's Kindle" there's a serial number prominently presented, however none of the other newly created devices have a screen like that.

i would bet on build.description and build.fingerprint ...
but the serial number ???

I suppose figuring out what it uses as my serial number and changing that is the next stab I'll take.

I've been bothered by Google Voice not working since I got my Xoom on launch day, but have been using the web portal... Until now.
I loaded up my Droid, backed up Google Voice+settings with Titanium Backup, restored it on my Xoom and it came up without doing the setup, since it already had my account settings installed. It force closed the first time but I noticed an error in the notification area... Error was asking for permission to use that email address as my Google Voice account, I accepted, re-launched Google Voice and success, full app, working as it would on the phone. Gives notifications and everything.
Enjoy!

What do you mean? Don't need an SD slot, just copy the TitaniumBackup folder from your Android phone to your PC then copy it to the Xoom...

Yes, need to be rooted, install BusyBox(there's a Market app for that) then install Titanium Backup. I've tried just installing the APK, naturally no luck.

Gotta have more than just the APK, got to have the data that goes with GV as well, hence Titanium Backup is needed...

Latest version of the free TB, whatever version that is...
There's no directory in there that starts with a .(at least, according to ls -a, I don't have Root Explorer on here, using terminal), there is a com.google.android.apps.googlevoice directory with all the subdirectories and such though.
I can't get busy box to install. I'm rooted, but it's saying my NAND is locked or it wasn't able to remount.
[edit] nevermind. I guess it didn't like that I was plugged into my computer and didn't have the debug mode on. Strange.

[Q] "Hello world, PM EasyView!"? Possible malware caught on screenshot?

I recently took a screenshot that revealed another background window behind a warning message window that says "Hello world, PM EasyView!"
Is this some kind of malware? I tried scanning my phone with Lookout Security and it did not detect anything suspicious.
It all began when all of a sudden my stock 2.2.2 Defy's Task Manager kept showing popup messages telling me that my Hotmail app is running for too long and is consuming memory. This never happened before, ie. Task Manager app showing warning messages about apps running for too long. I suspect a malware infestation. Please advise.

If you are scared that you are infected by malware the only "safe" thing to do is a full data wipe.
You dont have clockworkmod installed do you? Would be helpfull to have a full copy of the system to analyze it. I think clockworkmod would be a perfekt method to get a copy of the whole system.
sorry i don't know how to solve this. maybe it's time for you to change to some other ROMs...

Well not exactly scared but I was just wondering about the origin of that "Hello world" message. "PMEasyView"? I wasn't able to find any app or developer by that name among the apps installed on my phone. Just was wondering if anyone here knew thats all. I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick, does it install Clockworkmod too? Or do I have to do it separately?

I did install CM 7.1(2.3.7) but I didn't quite like it..I mean don't get me wrong..CM 7.1 is awesome but the ADW launcher kept crashing on me, something was eating up the battery way to fast and this is weird but I found that the sound quality(headphone and speaker) had actually deteriorated..maybe I didn't get some settings right but anyways I decided to roll back to the Motorola stock 2.2.2 froyo JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1.7 and wait until CM9 was out.
Thanks for the replies guys..really appreciate you taking the time.

If adw doesn't work for you, you can download another one from the market. I use go launcher and it works without any problems and damn fast. You should give it a try.

Well it's typical behavior of mallware - I dont have information, that stock task manager will inform you, that some process is running more than x minutes ... try wipe to factory settings and you'll be sure.
Rooting doesn't install Clockworkmod. You only get superuser after rooting. Install 2nd-init and you get Clockworkmod.
You should start using Droidwall and AVG antivirus pro. Try limit the data freedom running in the background.
Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll wait for CM9. I do have Droidwall installed and I've scanned my phone thoroughly with Lookout Security but nothing was detected. Is it possible that the firmware posted here, the 2.2.2 India one is somehow infected?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093352
I took another screenshot of the supposed malware today, this time without the task manager message. I was able to dismiss the task manager message by pressing the search key somehow.
I have seen exactly that same message today. I thought I have been fairly careful about Malware. However, there was an update that was installed from marketplace today.
I wonder if it is possible to look at an update history.

Is the message window in your case appearing under the exact same circumstances as mine? Which ROM are you using? And also if its possible could you do an inventory of the all the apps installed on your phone, then perhaps we can pinpoint the source. Thanks for the reply.

[INFO] Kindle Fire 6.2 Software Update (29Nov11)

So, it appears my Kindle Fire just updated itself on it's own! No warning, it just did it! I caught it as the progress bar was about 50% across the screen.
Confirmed 6.2 Software Update via Amazon Support Site
Here is what I know:
1. It removes root functionality, including the SuperUser.apk
2. It removes the Google Market app (some people say theirs is still working after update, so it could be how it was added/installed) and some of the other Google sync apk's that reside in /system/app (probably because that whole directory gets overwritten).
3. It overwrites the framework-res.apk file, so any customizations that were made to it (battery charge icon, custom wallpaper etc.), will be wiped out.
4. If you removed built-in apps like Facebook and IMDB before the update, they will have re-appeared again.
With some testing from Veritass (someone brave enough to try re-rooting again after the update), it is now pretty much back to normal. The steps I took to get there were:
1. Re-root using the standard SuperOneClick method we are all used to
2. Re-added the following apks in /system/app and applied the correct permissions:
- Vending.apk
- GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
- GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
Everything else was still working BEFORE I re-rooted, as the GoogleServicesFramework.apk remains intact and running. This includes, but is not limited to Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, Translate, Finance.
So, all is well again, and it didn't really mess up too much (that I can see). A minor inconvenience for no particular gain as far as I can see.
NOTE:
1. Amazon Video still doesn't work when rooted
2. The stock Carousel app still won't allow you to remove apps (not that I care about that myself, but you'd figure that a fix was imminent as this was a major gripe for a lot of users!)
3. Auto brightness is still not enabled

same here. without any question it runs the update.
I just went and checked mine, didn't update... still 6.1.
6.1 here as well; although, I will not be surprised if there are a lot of updates over the next couple months. It's interesting it auto updates because of the rooting implications, though.
I left mine alone for about 10 minutes after i checked earlier for the update. Now its been auto-updated. I lost root access and i keep getting android market has quit errors. Great.
Can i just reroot? or what now?

6.2 is coming, it's confirmed on their website (I updated my OP). But, yes it's worrying to those who have rooted (especially as it breaks it). I can't see any particular reason for the update either. The much touted Carosel fix (i.e being able to delete items from it) is not present.
I'll do some more digging....
As far as i can tell the updated did nothing except kill the root...

Thanks for being the guinea pig! Let us know how it goes. I'm not quite as brave, although if someone else confirms it works, I'll be the first one to do it afterwards!
Same here, locked the screen and then noticed the progress bar appear after a few moments. That's frustrating to say the least!
im on my way home right now. Will Post when Im done testing SUPER1CLICK
I haven't tried to reroot, but I have checked, all my extra apps and the Android Market Place are working fine. I actually had root switched off so I could use the Amazon Video service so it's not a big loss for me. Hopefully it still works for anyone rooting for the first time.
I wonder if anyone had OTA rootkeeper on then updated and could reroot.
Mine is still 6.1 however.
update is installing will attempt root.
From what I'm seeing, it pretty much did a rip and replace of /system/app (and probably a ton of other stuff). So, all the customization and Google apps that were installed in /system/app are now gone (this includes the market).
I'm hoping that it will all be replaceable!
Someone may want to figure out how to block updates as the Fire is set to automatically download an OTA update and apply it if the device goes to sleep.
this just irks me....
Scared to connect mine to wifi now! I just did a temp unroot, but if the update is stripping Google apps, then maybe I need an backup of them too.
Now would be a great time to get a working recovery with backup capability ..
sent from phone, sorry for typos.
rooted with S1C it worked for me. No problems i tested root explorer super user and a screen shot app all of them got Root access. mounted root as rw. must reboot after root. for access to SD card. Installed Market no problem I say its a GO!
Installed all Google apps no problem No force closes no nothing

How to reinstall the original A500 version of Lumiread
The title says it all.
I preferred the original lumiread that came on HC for its night mode and very fast and smooth page turns. Not a lot of bells and whistles but the most reliable and easy to use PDF reader I came across with incredibly fast rendering.
Anyone know how to reinstall it on ICS (lightspeed) and if you do can u point me to some instructions and an APK?

Remove lumiread in system/app if you got it installed , do it with a file manager that got root . Reboot.
See attachments , I uploaded a HC lumiread apk that you should be able to install like any app with your file manager.
If that doesn't work put it in system/app and reboot.
Interesting...
Ok, so i cleared out all limiread stuff from my tab, used filemanager HD with root, and installed the apk you sent. Works fine. Got a promt to install "asian font pack" from acer support.
Opened up a pdf and works buttery smooth.
Night reading mode is non functional. I hit the button, i get the spinning circle and the icon changes to night mode, but the text is still black and the paper white. Weird...
Also after i installed the lumiread i checked root/system/apps and could not find the installed lumiread.apk, nor could i find the apk for any other apps i had installed from the marketplace. I know i saw them there in HC, dunno where they are in ICS.
Retried the old apk i took off of my HC tab b4 i rooted and wiped it, fails to install.
Its also a little smaller than the one you sent me in terms of file size.
---------------------------------
http://code.google.com/p/lumi-read/downloads/list
Updated Lumiread app i managed to google, but its missing the night mode entirely. Instead it has this weird parchment theme thing in place of night mode...
Opened the .apk (its like 30 mbs wow!) in 7Z, was hoping it might be as simple as swapping a resource, but no luck there.... Seems i may have to go back to honeycomb
Do you know of an ICS rom with lumiread built in? Might be worth a shot :S
Thanks for the help btw. Much appreciated.

You can use the extra system app flasher from my rom (Flexreaper) but that is Lumiread2 for ICS and I think that is the one you didn't like.
So if you really want lumiread HC version I think you need to go back to HC.
I know there are also nice readers like lumiread on the market.
Edit
If you installed the app with a file manager it will be located in data/app and not system/app
Edit2
See attachments , there is a Lumiread apk from HC but that one you need to install in system/app and reboot .
So put the app on your tablet , then with a filemanager ( ex:ESFileExplorer) with root permission you copy/paste the luimread.apk in system/app and reboot.
If that doesn't work I'm out of options , sorry.

Yep. No black background , but maybe I can mod it to be black if that is what you want?
Or dark blue , I think it is a simple mod , Will take a look at.
That would be nice, but as far as i can tell, the original lumiread used a colour inversion filter to get the effect. of white text on black background.
If you change the background to black manually you would need to find a way to change the text to white.
Its trickier than it sounds when you think about it.

Nook Glowlight 6" (BNRV510) can't get to Home Screen after erase+reformat.

I was having an issue where the Nook wouldn't apply a software update. I figured if I reformatted that would fix it. Well it did. During the initial setup it found and applied the software update OTA. But, after I connect to Wifi, type in my credentials, and click next, I get stuck on this screen:

The Nook can't get past this. I know it's up to date because it just downloaded an update. I know it was working because earlier today I was reading a book. But now I've hit a wall. I found another topic regarding registering a glowlight 6", but his problem seems to be slightly different. The users in that topic talked about bypassing the registration, but I can't find advice on that for my particular model. The methods I have tried aren't working, so they must be for other model Nooks. And besides, I'd like to have this device working as intended. I don't intend to root it if I don't have to. I've jailbroken my kindles and rooted many android phones over the years, so it's not a big deal if it must be done. But even then, I don't know how I can root it without getting into settings to turn on debugging.
I'll also mention that the device is for the USA region (or ought to be since that's what all the time zone choices are), and so am I.
EDIT: What I failed to mention was that I got the Nook from Savers yesterday (a thrift store) for $5. Well today I talked to Barnes and Noble and the device is blacklisted. Whoever used to own it reported it stolen once upon a time. This deal was too good to be true

I'm not sure what great things are in there, but my "glow45patch.zip" is still compatible. (See signature, MergeSmali)

Thanks Renate. I'm doing some reading about the Mergesmali utility you made. I think I am competent enough to use it, but I don't see much info about what use it serves me in particular. Can I use the glow45 patch with mergesmali.exe to bypass the initial setup?

No, the point of it is to patch the specific aspects mentioned, sleep images, white background.
The utility of it is that the same patches were written for 4.5 and continue to work for 5.2 (and beyond).
Moreover, you can't modify any system files until your Glow is rooted.
For skipping registration, is this useful? https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/how-to-access-nook-glowlight-3-t4096829
I'm actually no good at exploit rooting because I usually just hook up a UART console instead.
Oh wow, I got to the easter egg. Thanks for that link. I haven't got this far before. So I've got USB debugging turned on. What next? I just want to use this device as an ereader, nothing else. I'm not sure how to bypass registration still yet, and I've read that there's an extra step I have to take to disable telemetry otherwise my battery life will be really bad.
Also, by platform version is 52.0.78 and my nook apk is 5.2.4.27
EDIT: This looks promising, except that it's for the Glow3 and I have the Glow2 https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/how-to-root-set-nook-glowlight-3-t3802331
I was hoping I could avoid rooting, but it looks like I'll have to in order to overcome that boot animation glitch. And also because it seems the only bypass is to install a separate launcher I guess.
There's been a lot of convergence.
Except for a few hardware things (and 6" vs. 7.8") the Glow2, Glow3 & Glow4 are the same.
Just don't install an update.zip for the wrong model!

Thank you for all the great advice. Perhaps then I should first find a way to make a clean backup before I make any big changes like a custom recovery, or disabling apps and jars.
I've made a lot of progress, but now I'm stuck. I used adb push to temporarily run TWRP and made a backup. Then I used adb to install relauncherX. Pressing HOME doesn't prompt me to pick a launcher. I used https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64191791 to run a script to Root the device. I also disabled the boot animation using this code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
mv /system/bin/bootanimation /system/bin/bootanimation.bak
reboot

I assume root has persisted thru the reboot because in cmd I was as to run ADB SHELL followed by SU and now I have [email protected]_6sl:/ # in my command prompt.
Problem is, Even though I'm rooted and have a custom launcher, I still can't get past the sign in screen. I think if I knew what process it was, I could kill it with adb, but ps isn't giving me any clues, and dumpsys activity is like information overload, and beyond my skillset to decipher. While in adb shell, su, I used kill 3162 (the pid of com.nook.partner) and that didn't help either. It DID however remove the top bar from the screen, where it shows wifi and battery.
EDIT: So, thanks to me actually READING a little more, I followed some info here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/how-to-access-nook-glowlight-3-t4096829 and managed to disable the activies necessary to bypass registration. I have the RelaunchX launcher now. I'm 90% of the way there! Now I just need an app that can launch ebooks, because the Nook app wants me to sign in, instead of read.

So, get a reader app.
One that was mentioned recently was AlReader (that's Al as in Albert).
I don't know, I don't use it.
