I have a reoccurring issue with multiple roms. Using SS8/9 and now Shooter. I only randomly will get text messaged from any sender. I recently unrooted my phone back to factory 2.2 stock then upgraded to 2.3 and had no issues. So my problem only happens when I am running a custom rom. I should normally get alot of messages through the day as I work for a IT company that gets paged for critical issues in a hospital. Luckily I have a pager as well so I still get the messages. So far today, my pager has not stopped going off and I have yet to get a single text on my phone. I do not have google voice as I removed that a month ago on SS8 hoping to resolve the issue. Any help is appreciated.
Currently running Team Nocturnals Shooter with dodgekernel 1.6 (with and without oc)
Edit: i just flashed to stock rooted and started getting messages instantly... no clue why custom roms dont work for me
Ill look around, I thought there was an app available on the market that helped with this issue... Sprint's network is notorious for borking the delivery of sms and mms... You arent the first person to post the issue... If I find the app I'll link it for you.
Edit: I couldnt find the app... But this issue you are having is definitely a sprint network issue...

Try a non sense rom, you probably won't have that issue anymore. If you do you probably need to update your radio after you root.

Well it is a known issue on the Sprint Network. Has been for a while, actually Srint Confirmed it several times. I really don't think switching to a Non-Sense Rom would solve the issue. Because it's still a custom Rom. I would try updating the PRL / Profile. Also the Radio as you suggested. But I don't think it's a Sense thing.

I'm just offering him a suggestion to try a non-sense rom and compare if he gets the same results or not. It's not a custom rom issue because I'm running CyanogenMod7 and I've never had that issue...

I run nothing but Sense and don't have the issue. Never do . But yes trying a different Rom will rule out certain possibilities.

You can also try calling Sprint. Have them reset your Messaging, and Data. Just make sure your on a Sense Rom if you call, just in case they ask you to access ESPT. Also, goes without saying do not tell them your rooted, or let them remote access your phone.
Ghostly sms will be your best friend man, it's a memory issue inside of Sense for "some" users so give that app a shot, hell I run it on my inspire because I'm aware of the memory issues HTC and Sense have

I just got the eris on the 20th of july. I had heard that HTC was really good but I have started running in to problems.
I rooted and I am using evil eris rom 3.0. I noticed yesterday that the awake button started not working after further investigation I noticed I could tap on the side and it would wake up.
Also just noticed today that was getting pretty hot and using the battery significantly. only lasted 5 hours.
I am considering returning the phone as I have 30 days.
Anyone have any Ideas
Search through the forums for specific problems you are having, then trouble shoot. Have you reflashed the ROM? Tried any others? Did you do a nandroid backup, if so have you tried a restore? The phone could be complicated so if you don't want to put in the effort id recommend returning it.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Did you ask your question in the Evil Eris thread ? Maybe others running the same ROM are having similar issues.
yeah, I tried two other roms for a short time I liked this one the best. At first I didnt have any problems.
Are you suggesting i wipe this flash then reflash it again.
Also are you suggesting I restore the original.
Ive been searching just Havent found anything yet.
I really would like some input on if you guys think I should work through this with the phone. Are these phones reliable and such I dont mind tweaking it a little to get it right. But I dont want to have constant problems
HTC does make great phones. However, you shouldn't base your opinion of the phone off of hacking into it and modifying it (especially being a less-than-a-week-old first-time HTC owner who hasn't done a lot of footwork to troubleshoot the issues).
Yes you should wipe and reflash the rom and see if that does anything. If that doesnt help, do a restore (supposing you did a back up). Also a lot of these roms are over clocked so the phone can get hot from using it a lot especially if its on the charger.
Since you rooted your phone, you have void your warranty. Basically if verizon decides to check the software builds and whatnot and discovers you have rooted, you might not get another phone. There are threads on how to unroot your phone, so I suggest doing that before you return it if you decide to.
Also I might suggest sense able 3.1 very stable rom

Hey bud thanks for the positive feedback. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I do really like the phone. You know all that power in such a small package. Thats the reason for these forums I believe so that we can help eachother.
Ill try that and see what happens.
I really hated my eris until i started using froyo based roms.. They are a bit buggy especially the camera but well worth the effort even if just for battery life. I went from 15-20% lose an hour to 5-8% unless i use alot of data.. then its more like 10-12%.

Bingo
I loaded Sense-able and it seems to be working well so far.
Thanks for the help I'm sure Ill need some down the road
Yay. I can confirm the following bugs after using OTA ED01 for a couple hours:
1) 50% time w/o signal bug still there. Still need airplane toggle after boot.
2) Browser scrolling choppy as ever.
3) Pop email client still snaps to top of list after reading each email.
4) battery issues / wakelock needs more testing
Now then, we know Samsung and VZW were not working on fixing any bugs in the last several months that they have been sitting on this code. All bugs from froyo leaks 2.5 months ago are still in there.
Seems to me there was 0 priority put on this update, since it was delivered extremely late and still chock full of bugs. My assessment is Samsung is way understaffed AND integrating bing caused some negative interactions between the companies involved. I won't buy another Samsung... and probably should move off of VZW.

Weird, I don't use the email client, but I have not experienced any of those issues. My battery does not drain while sleeping (with bt, gps and data all on) everything is smooth as can be. And I have never had to toggle airplane mode. All these bugs I had in dl30 and eb01, but none at all in this release. Also I have had no screen response issues anymore either. Not saying your wrong just posting my experience as well.

We'll have to see how it goes fellow chicagoland resident. I odin'd and ota'd to get the new radio and frameworks and files were compared lastnight and there is some differences in the frameworks between EC01 and ED01 so I'm gonna run themeless until I have time to port my theme over to the new frameworks. Initial impression I have is my data speeds are a little higher and more constant. But I'll give it a go traveling about the city today.
Oh, @OP the tws bug is not limited to our device. It's a froyo thing that many devices suffer from. Google it.
good day.
Everything looks good here... Besides battery life. I just did the ota at 9:30 this morning after about an hour **** has drained 30%. Oh well. I was using heavily, im gonna flash the debloated one and wipe bstats and what not to see if I get some improvement.

If you had display on for an hour 30% drain is normal I think.
I just read the release notes for ed01 posted by kaus... It lists some added bloat, but in many cases contradicts the op of this thread (subject to verification I guess ;-).

My wife and I have this phone. I am running EB01 Superclean and I just odin'd her phone to stock last night and upgraded to OTA ED01. So far, no time without signal bug, browser does not seem choppy, no wakelocks so far. Maybe you should odin to stock and start fresh if you have not done so already. I think that this can fix a lot of issues. No doubt that after brief testing my Superclean w/ -100 imnuts kernel is kicking the snot out of a stock ED01 froyo so far. But I always give it a week for the battery to calibrate and settle so I will report back.
i also have superclean 2.9.2 (nv). i'm not sure if i want to go back to stock and do the official ota because I finally LIKE my phone for the first time since... November? I really liked it for the first month (Oct) when I thought the OTA was due any day... but since then, not so much. but after installing superclean a week or so ago, suddenly i don't care about the ota. unless i hear from one of you more experienced gurus that it's the way to go, that is. I love that I don't have all that bloat on my phone. If i do the ota, I presume the bloat will come with it, and I've heard of people then cleaning up the phone... how is that different from what I already have? should I stay put or is there a distinct advantage to doing the ota and then cleaning it up? any advice and logic behind it would be appreciated. thanks.

Don't worry superclean in my opinion is still better. It has all the great sbrissen mods and its only got a couple very tiny bugs (even though I can't think of one)

Anyone using EC01 or ED01 notice similar situation where 3G bounce in and out of connectivity constantly? Originally thought it was Community Rom, but later change to Evil Fascinate 3.4 and 3.3.2 with same issue. Downgrade to EC01 and same issue. Here are some pictures of it.
Did *228, wipe cache, wipe data, wipe devik, and all of that each time. No idea what's going on.

UPDATE 04/26/2011 - 9:50AM
* I'll start playing around with various RADIO and see which one will give me the stable I am looking for. Thanks for the info...
DJ05>DL09>EA28>EB01>EC01>ED01
So far
ED01 - unstable
EC01 - unstable
EB01 - currently on....
Will try both Evil Fascinate & Community Rom 1.1 with each radio
TBH, that's happened to me on every radio. At first ill think the new radio is the culprit, but once I think about it my Fascinate has always had issues with reception. I believe its a hardware issue.

Not that we need another thread on this issue, but I started one of my own because I want to draw attention to the fact that I pulled a logcat (radio) file trying to help with this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051543
I've gone through all of the RADIO till date. One thing I can confirm as someone had suggested or eluded to....
By going to EC01/ED01 some how hosed the hardware. I even went back to stock DL09 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044474) and the 3G still goes in and out....
*sigh*

While that only mentions 4G going down it's pretty easy to connect the dots, even if this is anecdotal, the fact it is affecting stock users and others alike is enough for me to not worry, simply relax and wait for them to sort it out.

its good to know that its almost surely something on verizons end of things. this has been bothering me for about a week. i figured it might have been particular radio files or something like that, then it happened on a stock rom and i started to doubt the integrity of my phone.
hopefully there will be a timely fix.
does anyone get SMS errors (like 107, 97, or any others)? Or "Radio interface resource shortage" errors?
I've been getting these for a week now since I got a refurbished phone. Called Sprint a half hour ago, and they reset something on their end that was supposed to help, but I just got an SMS error again, so apparently it didn't fix it. It's certainly not due to a lack of service, as I have full service. Profile and PRL are all updated. I haven't updated the android version yet due to the reports of bugs, and it not being rootable.
Any ideas? I can call and complain to Sprint again, and since this is my third Shift, I can get any other device, but I'd really rather not...I like the Shift lol
I only get SMS errors if I am texting too fast. But they still all go through.

mine seems that it drops data when a text is going, and then takes a very long time to reestablish the data connection, if it does at all

When I had stock 2.2 I was getting the same issues... I think its a sense thing... I am on nightly #124 now and I have absolutely no issues save for navigation. It's not sense, I know that for certain. The first two devices didn't have any service problems other than the occasional error popping up when I literally had no service while roaming
Maybe its just the one u have. Maybe like a bug or error. Try using the RUU. Maybe give it a fresh system. I've used the RUU and it doesn't have any issues. I'm just stabbing in the dark here.

tried that, twice. I rooted this one twice, put custom ROM's on, RUU'd a couple times, didn't fix it. I think if anything there's a problem with the antennas or the software controlling the interaction of the antennas. I'm getting another one on Tuesday, so hopefully that'll work better
Just shot in the dark maybe try flashing the old radio.

I get the same error, quite frequently...but only in areas of low signal. I figured it was simply that...maybe not?

I haven't had my new phone in low signal areas yet, so I'm not sure. I know my Mom's shift gets the errors quite frequently when she's at home, where signal is very weak. But I rarely got them even there. I might be out there sometime in the next few days, so I'll have to check it out.
Anyone know why when I tried to open a network support ticket they are detecting I'm on a mikfroyo rom. I changed Roms so many times the past 6months.. so what the hell is up with that:
They even said you have to be on a official Rom.. man how they detect this info is pretty funny. And how wrong it is.
But any way to fix that issue

Why do you think they would give you support when you voided your warranty by rooting and installing another ROM?
I mean seriously...
I don't need support. I do wish to inform them of their network problem here... If so I have 8 other people with Sprint who are official.. who can report the network problem aswell ... Why would I need support if my phone is perfectly fine. And besides the fact I'm not running the Rom they are indicating I am...

Again... think about it for a little bit. They don't know if you have 8 other people who are experiencing they same problem you are.
They're not going to waste their time with a problem that could be the result of a modded phone.

You only voided your warranty with HTC, not sprint. I've taken my rooted/S-OFF device many times and have talked to the store reps and they have no policy against rooted devices. There is stores that will give you a hassle just to be lazy, meanwhile other stores will ask you to simply flash back to stock to help narrow down issues caused by software or hardware.
Oh so a version from stock that just has apps removed that ate considered bloated. So that can be a phone error. Dude I've flashed many roms kernels and radios and its the network. I'm not after phone support. I don't need a warranty on my Damn phone but I pay them for service via their towers if they have issues with it then they should fix their network problems. I will pay insurion if I have phone issues its why I have them.

The guy just said to install a stock Rom and give him info. The guy was like okay 3rd party. You need to install stock . But he did agree there is probably a problem in the area.

ANyways the guy said I should keep stock until testing is done well. Im on a modified stock rom etc (testing this rom out). Anyways is there a way to show them my software/build number as stock or whatever to fool them when i re provision it to update their system?

no they are not wasting their time providing CUSTOMER support to a paying CUSTOMER
How can Sprint finds out if your rooted with a custom Rom? Even they never saw the phone?

I used to Run Mikfroyo but the thing is I don't know how they know I was on a custom rom. Maybe when provision your phone it sends that data. Now I'm On a different rom but i was unaware how he knew. The guy *PinkElmo* basically just said to go back to stock ROM for the duration of the testing (sounds like he not only not has a problem with it but sounds like he uses custom as wellXD).
I'm still puzzled as to how they found out...
I also currently using mikfroyo 4.61. But I didn't start rooting after a month signing up.

I had to provision a few months back though... But It Got me wondering. I have been downloading a stock rom at 199mb it should take roughly 2-8 hours on the Sprints NOW DialUp Network
Sprint has a program called OMA-DM. This program has all the information from the status section of your device. When I worked for sprint we would have customers update their data profile, this would send the information to the tool. The rep can then see what rom you are on. However this did not work on AOSP roms since they do not update the profile.
If you want to fool sprint update your profile under a stock unmodified rom, then flash to AOSP, the info for the sense rom would be still in the system.
Furthermore they can see if you have updated the profile, so if you tell them that you did they will be able to see if you actually did or not.. They are also able to view all the transactions with dates and times between your phone and the tool.
My advise to you is to suck it up and run the official rom until the testing is over, usually about a week.
Also sprint has no control over a custom rom, so they automatically have you update profile and firmware to the current version to ensure that the phone is working to their standards and things that they have control over.
TL;DR - Quit complaining and use a stock rom so sprint can do their testing.
The complaining in this thread has me puzzled. Run a stock Tom for them to test, reinstall favorite Tom when done...

Thanks and for data profile. Just the one under updates? If so it would have shown mikg if clean rom I got a download of stock and was going to flash it when i can before Tuesday since Monday is a holiday...
Thanks for informing me how they detect what Rom your on.

I imagine sprint can know quite a bit about your phone. When I had my diamond, (or maybe it was my Evo, I forget) something wasn't working right. I got on the phone with a tech, and he proceeded to to operate my phone while I was holding my phone. I could see the screen clicks, and him going from one menu to another, operating my phone remotely. Blew me away.
As for the monitoring SW mentioned earlier in this thread, does it read build prop values? Cuz I'm guessing that's how they get your device info.
Lastly, post 2 and 3 about not expecting sprint to work on/assess your rooted phone. BS. Sprint has given mixed signals about this. I know there have been internal memos released stating they now will honor rooted phones. I think lazyness is the culprit when a comes to CSRs or techs rejecting for root. I've always taken in my rooted phone and put a stockish rom on it first, when I have a hardware problem (blown speaker, broken screen, etc.)

They used an application call LogMeIn Rescue. It gives them the ability to remotely view/control a pc, windows or blackberry phone. Its actually a lot easier to do it for a customer more often then trying to walk them through it.
Yes the information displayed in the about phone section is stored in the build.prop.
As for the software; software plays a factor in how the device operates and communicates with the network. Sprint has designed the stock software on their devices to their standards. They know their software and how it works. Now take a custom rom, one that has be frankenstined together. How do you expect a company to properly troubleshoot and diagnose a problem that could very well be related to the customer software?
I totally agree with the laziness part on the Tech Reps, after working with the company for several years, Id have to say most of the reps were less educated or technically minded about the device that they were working with. I could not tell you how many times I would hear customers complain about the Tech Reps.
Going to a hardware issue, Custom software would not break the screen, blow a speaker, or otherwise cause physical damage to the device (with the exception of a battery). So these should have no effect on hardware warranty's or exchanges.
