Just Recently I tried to use HTC's bootloader unlock tool on my desire hd. When i tried to install the ruu that htc provided I was greeted with this message close to the end of the installation(Picture provided below). I've tried to update my Desire hd as it asked me to but it says that I already have the latest version(my build number is 2.37.720.3). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try aahk. The htc tool wont give you s-off anyway.

The tools in this forum are faster to use and non destructive (no data loss - unless you flash a ROM that is ) and give you a full S-off and Eng Hboot.
To use the HTC tool to unlock the bootloader, your Desire HD should be updated to 3.x version. In the first page of the unlock tool in HTCDev, there are links to download the latest version RUU(according to you region) and instructions to update. You may try that.
Try updating your phone. The error states that the ROM version should be 3.13.720.2 yours is 2.37.720.3.

Hi guys,
tomorrow my Desire HD finally arrives, i've been doing some research into rooting ect and would like to ask a few questions .....
1) whats the best root method? i take it unreovked dosent work on the HD, ive read visionary works for permroot, i thought visionary was for the G2 not HD is this correct?
2) whats the diffence between, bootloader s-off and radio s-off ..... on the desire we only have bootloader s-off
3) my desire HD will be orange branded, if it comes with a newer software version , with an unrootable hboot, can i downgrade easlly to an older software version?
4) and finally how do you guys find the multi touch on the HD?, the lack of multi touch is one of the main reasons im upgrading.
thanks for you help
I followed the guide in the Development section to root my DHD and S-OFF, it's pretty easy to follow
I don't know anything about downgrading hboot or that stuff.
The multi-touch on my device is crap:
I shot a video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj5z08CC5AQ
Most times 2 points work, but with 3 and 4 points the sensor is going crazy!

thats the guide i read, its always daunting rooting a new device isnt it nooooo dont say that the website said the hd support 4 point multi touch aslong as you dont get the axis flipping and it supports 2 touches though i'll be happy
if you are wanting to root your desire HD first check what firmware is already installed if its 1.72.405.3 this can't be rooted yet but if its still has older firmware 1.32.405.3 you are fine and you can root with Visionaryr14. so don't update your phone(if you have older firmware) to any new firmware until you are radio s-off.
if you do have 1.72.405.3 firmware you can now downgrade it to older firmware read thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
but you will need installed on pc htc sync drivers which you can download from HTC site also need android sdk tools (need adb) which can be found here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html need
also been branded you will needed to make a goldcard on your sdcard to be able to downgrade but in the thread above the is a link to show how its done.
just hope you have older firmware on phone.
sorry matey didn't really read you post, different between the s-off's radio s-off is were its sercurity premanently off and eng s-off is were the h-boot has been patch telling the radio the sercurity is off.
If it comes with 1.72 or 1.75 firmware root I'd not availiable....Yet!

thanks guys, i'll just have to wait till tomorrow to see what software version comes with my HD, i hope i wont have too much trouble rooting or downgrading tho, i have the htc drivers installed and im familiar with adb, thanks for your help
you should have no problems been able to downgrade then. you may want to use this ruu http://xdafil.es/DesireHD/RUU/RUU_A....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_157531_signed.exe
as your PM98IMG.zip as it orange uk so may not need to make a goldcard.
Just to keep your hopes up i only got mine on friday it had the older firmware on.
i soon s-off and eng -s off, now i can not stop flashing roms finding the one i like best. i would say thou if you plan to flash up to the 1.72 rom dont flash a new custom kernel...yet
Thamks for all your help guys, i got my DHD earlier today, and it only took me 10 minutes to root and s-off it came with software version 1.40, i used visionary to root it, then used the one click radio s-off tool to s-off now im gunna download rom manager and flash cwm
Nice no having to downgrade enjoy

Ok, my wildfire has hboot 1.01.0001 and it got S-OFF via the XTC Clip....anyway, unrevoked (latest version ive downloaded from the enurevoked site) still cant root the phone (i keep on getting the "is your firmware to new" message over and over).
What to do to get it rooted now?
What I did was to install an older ruu from the shipped rom website. After you did install it you should be able to use unrevoked.
Success

i found this link here:
forums.phone-tools.cn/showthread.php/31659-Hboot-1.01.001-Unlock-And-Rooting
the clockwork from the file PC49IMG.zip installed successfully
however, it says it cant find the update.zip on the sdcard (and the file is present)

Which one, there are kinda many out there?
Why make it difficult for yourself put an older ruu and then use unrevoked. It's a little more work but if you are not sure what you do then it is the best way.

The method posted at:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000367
worked, rooted now )))))
getting S-OFF in your device is what u need to root froyo wildfire. once u have got S-OFF, u can root wildfire in two ways
1.noobs guide to root wildfire froyo official
2.flashing an older android 2.1 rom update utility, so that u can root with unrevoked software.
regarding the process of noobs guide, u can search here in the wildfire xda forum to know the process. it uses super one click method to root the phone.
and regarding the second process, im describing it here.
once u have got S-OFF in your device, then it is possible to downgrade your bootloader. only do this with official ROM UPDATE UTILITY. donot do it with any other process. go to the website
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/
there download ur region rom exe file. the most important thing is to download a android 2.1 rom. donot download the froyo rom. then make the ROM UPDATE UTILITY. at the end of that process u will get an official 2.1 on ur device with downgraded bootloader (0.80). then root ur phone with an updated version of unrevoked. thats all.
i dont know whether S-OFF persists after the official RUU.
Hello All,
I need the official HTC rom for wildfire with HTC sense
i tried many ROMs but i did not feel comfortable with them
i need the official one without any modifcations
thank you
Search on Google ruu 2.22 wildfire, download, install HTC sync from HTC and install. If not work you mast create a goldcard.

Please explain how to install RUU in step by step.

You cannot get s-on at the moment, no single RUU can revert what AlphaRevX has done. So that first link doesn't make any sense.
The second link is better tough:
Code:
To flash the official RUU build, simply download ‘Official Android 2.2 FroYo RUU, connect your phone to your computer via USB, run the downloaded RUU installer and just follow the on-screen instructions. Once the process finishes and your device reboots, you will have it installed.
EDIT:
The most easy way is to flash a "safe" RUU. Those will give you the HTC Froyo stock ROM, but do not have an hboot, a radio and a recovery. Now that isn't a problem for you at all: you will notice nothing of it. When you boot your device, it will look like you have gone back to the phone you've bought. When you have downloaded such a zip, you can just put it on your SD-card an flash it just like you flash a custom ROM.
To get such a zip, go to the thread of 3xeno (scroll down to chapter 5). I do not know which one is the best, I propose you just pick the latest one from Danne_jo. You can download it directly by clicking here. Again, this is the ROM of danne_jo, all credits should go to him.

can you give a direct link to 4ext recovery.

and i tried to unlock using htcdev but they told me that i have to update hboot, ive tried the ruu they gave me but it did not work,it said that it want to update the phone, and when i tried to update the phone there was no update available.
sorry for bad english
Are you branded or unbranded?

Unbranded
i live in Syria(Arab country)
I thought about updating with latest WWE RUU and then unlock using htcdev ,is that ok?or is there anything I must make sure of before using the RUU?
There us no need to unlock the bootloader if you are already S-OFF.
And yes I would recommend you to run the latest WWE RUU from your computer. You don't have to to anything before running the RUU just connect your phone in charge mode only with USB debugging enabled and your good to go.

Last question:
Will my phone back to s-on after ruu update?
Note:
my phone is s-off but I can't flash custom recovery
Yes the phone will remain s-off after the ruu and you should be able to flash a Rom when you are s-off

I've got my bootloader unlocked. I tried to get a KitKat rom installed, but no luck. I followed a bunch of steps from one of the threads here. It has me use ADB and TWRP. It says S-OFF is optional.
I can get all the way through flashing a rom, but when I reboot it's not there.. just my stock Android 4.0.3 that came with my phone.
Maybe S-OFF is needed? But I can't get S-OFF to work.. I didn't want to do the wire trick. I have software from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2436217
It says check best method. But in there my bootloader version is not listed.. 1.58. I tried more than one S-OFF software with no luck. One of them was Revolutionary which required it to be 2.15 or 2.16.
What to do?

This is the wrong device thread. This is htc evo 4g not evo 3d/evo v.
But I will tell you the wire trick is safe and easy if you run it from Ubuntu. You dont even have to install Ubuntu you can run it from a cd and that method has resulted in 0 bricks. The windows version has had a few bricks so it is not recommended.
Fyi only htc ics roms will run on hboot 1.58. Gingerbread sense and all aosp require older hboots and you can not downgrade hboots unless you get s-off.
