[Q] ICS USB Mount? - Kindle Fire General

I can't figure out how to get USB mount to work in ICS rom. USB debugging is enabled but the storage never shows up on pc...
Does this not work yet? I know I can go into twrp and get it working that way... but would be cool to be able to do it inside ICS.
By the way I am loving this rom, can't wait for audio/video fix.
Keep up the good work. Bout time for me to start donating.

Yes, this is a known issue with the current pre-alpha ics rom. You can use twrp to mount if need be.

Cool thanks, I was going to add it to the bug tracking sheet if it wasn't already added but some dbag decided to delete it all... I hope someone downloaded a copy and can put it back up...

These are the greatest days of each android season.... the early days... when stuff is broken and not yet functional....
this is a great time to polish off your adb skillz....
so while you wait for the Devs to fixit, try some adb pushing and pulling and mounting the more you do it the better off you are.

Recovery partition?

So I may be getting a xoom rather soon and was wondering. Is anyone working on a recovery for this yet? I know you guys are still waiting on USB host support from Motorola but is one being developed?
Sent from my GSBv1.9 ERIS using XDA App
Koush has a working recovery but is waiting for Moto to enable the microsd slot before releasing it.
Koush, myself, and a few other folks have recovery but it is useless without the sd driver. Also, USB Host is already working. Perhaps recovery could mount USB Host though... interesting...
lol, I was thinking that when I saw the USB host mode stuff come out. Sounds like you are gonna save me the trouble of finding out if it works. I am still waiting for my cable, but that wiwiukd be awesome if it workd.
Yeah I meant the microSd slot. So should I get it? It's most likely gonna be a wifi only model. It still comes with GPS right?

ClockworkMod for Xoom

Now that we finally have SD card support (big thanks to the guys working on the custom kernel). Is anyone working on ClockworkMod for the Xoom? I remember reading this way back when it just released.
Motorola XOOM rooted and clockworkmod installed
When a new device like the Xoom hits the market everyone wonders how long it will take to get root and another recovery on the new device. For the Xoom it is less then 24 hours after official launch and it has now been rooted and has a version of clockworkmod recovery on it. This was all done by Koushik Dutta, the wonder dev that brings ROM Manager and clockworkmod recovery. At this time clockworkmod recovery doesn’t do a whole lot since the sd card slot has not been turned on yet. That should change just as soon as Motorola rolls out the software update enabling that slot.
In case you have a desire to root your new toy you can follow his directions which I am posting below. Just make sure to thank koush for all of this.
Root Instructions:
# Download the Xoom root zip.
# Unzip the package.
# Put your junk in the box.
adb reboot bootloader (skip the next 3 steps if you have already unlocked via fastboot)
fastboot oem unlock
# wait for reboot
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
fastboot reboot
# wait for reboot
adb remount
adb push su /system/bin
adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

The author of cwm no longer has a xoom. But maybe if you ask him nicely, he will put it out there.
Just sent Koushik Dutta an e-mail informing him of the microSD support.
I will keep you guys updated if I hear any replies.

From what I remember reading the threads a few weeks back, there were some other individuals who had the CWM for the Xoom. Koush handed it off to a few select people before he returned his Xoom. It wasn't disseminated to the masses because of the lack of SD... But it IS out there somewhere.

As of right now, CWM doesn't see it. That being said there are people working on it. Getting the recovery img on is pretty easy in fastboot. The hardest thing we will have is the wifi only version has no boot to recovery. You have to be in the os to get back to recovery. The 3g on the other hand, has a boot to recovery option at boot.

Talk to Motorola. The 3g you can turn on and hit the volume down button after about 5 seconds and it will bring you to a menu to select nvflash, rsd, fastboot or recovery. On the wifi only recovery isn't one of the options.

Wow, I can't believe they would get rid of a low level feature like that. So technically nandroid backups are useless then since they can't be flashed while the OS is running anyways?

A500 updated to 3.2 somehow, now it barely works!

I don't know how it got updated, but it did. I wasn't running a custom rom or kernel or anything. It was just a stock a500.
Well now most of my apps force close, can't connect to Xda forums, wallpapers don't work, wifi barely works, etc.
Should I go back to bestbuy and exchange it? I've had it for less than a week. I just want one that works! I love this tablet though.

Was it running 3.0 or 3.1 when you got it? If so it should have prompted you and asked you if you wanted to update.
The easiest thing, especially if you are new to the world of android, would be to exchange it at Best Buy. There are ways of fixing it, but that would involve reverting back to an older honeycomb version, rooting it and possibly installing a custom ROM.
Edit - It appears you are not new the the Android world. My bad...... You probably know a lot more than I do!
Was it always giving you errors, or did they all of a sudden just pop up?
It never promoted anything, it just asked me to update acer drivers or whatever so I did. Next thing I know I'm on 3.2
I never got errors until 2 or 3 days ago. I can't even post on the Xda app now!
I'll probably just exchange it. Ducks about my ghost armor though

Wonderfully useful post.
I was never promoted for an Android update, just acer updates. I've only had this thing for a week, not to mention i've never "officially" updated an Android devices.
I'm aware I would have to downgrade. How difficult is it? It seems pretty simple, but I've never done it before. Is all data wiped when you downgrade?

First of all, please remove any task killers or "battery savers" you're using. These are pretty terrible for any android OS newer than 2.1. Try to stay away from them. You can get away with "passive" ones like as an example, Watchdog. But nothing that actively shuts down processes and such.
This isn't supposed to be possible, but do you happen to have any apps auto-moving other apps to the microSD card, or are you using any apps to do this manually? By design I don't think that can even be done inside of Honeycomb, but I'm aware that some apps 'force it'. If you do, move any and all apps on the microSD card back to the internal storage of the A500 - then remove the offending 'mover' app.
Stupid question, but have to tried powering the tablet off and back on? If not, let's try that first, shall we?
Second thing - if it's still force closing when it comes back up, try using the reset on the side of the unit. What I want is basically to have the tablet hard reset (the equivalent of removing the battery for a few seconds).
To do this put something in the little reset hole for 10 seconds or so while the unit is on, so you can see it reboot. Once it turns off you can remove the item from the hole.
Still force closing apps? Alrighty then, moving on:
If you are using a completely stock A500 (and yes, I did read that you said you are), then just factory reset it and you should be alright. It won't downgrade to 3.1, but why would you want it to? 3.2 is working great for many of us.
I'd love to get to the bottom of your force closes. But alas, that may be just a bit much to deal with for a new user so go ahead and do the factory reset.
To do a factory reset, go to Settings and then Privacy and the option is in there. I would remove the microSD if you have one inserted (it's not necessary, but just to rule anything out).
Since it's only a week old hopefully you don't have too many apps or settings invested in the tablet.
So to summarize:
1. Uninstall any and all task killers or battery savers
2a. Make sure you don't have any programs automatically moving apps to the microsd. Move any apps you have installed to the microSD back to the internal storage
2b. Remove the microSD card
3. Power cycle the device (then 4 if 3 doesn't work)
4. Hard reset the device (then 5 if 4 doesn't work)
5. Factory reset the device
If you factory reset and STILL get force closes when you're back up then unfortunately there's something wrong with either the core software (maybe a bad update) or the hardware. Return it in that case.
Good Luck. Please let me know how it goes.
I'm not new to Android, just new to this device.
I never use task killers.
No app2sd stuff.
Rebooted multiple times.
I've removed the SD card and even tried a different one.
Hard resets don't do anything for my problem.
Why would I want 3.1? To root it. 3.2 is useless to me without root. Apps like drive mount make this tablet much more useful, but they require root access.

I would try to downgrade - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
From there you can install your own custom ROM. If it still gives you issues, factory reset (or load a ROM that looks stock) and exchange it

Exactly! Currently there is no root for 3.2 on our device. Hence having to downgrade to 3.1, root, and install a pre-rooted 3.2 ROM. IMHO the stock based 3.2 ROMs are the most stable, and trouble free.
If you're not new to Android you should have no problem following the procedure.

Althought it is easier to do it with a computer (to get the files). You can download them straight to your tab, transfer the files over to your external SD card and away you go! I've installed a few ROMS without the help of my computer. Afterall, that's part of the reason why I got a Honeycomb tab, so I wouldn't have to rely on a computer unlike other "tablets" on the market LOL!

Maybe it would help if you remove all apps that require root access, FCs may be caused by them since you don't have root anymore. Actually you don't need root anymore to mount NTFS hdds - 3.2 took care for that. The one thing I need root now is to map the keys of my USB keyboard to my liking. Probably I'll flash a custom kernel when I feel the need for OC but still it runs everything I throw at it.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I uninstalled them, or most of them at least. I'll continue looking for root apps.
I've got my hdd formatted to fat32 but my tablet still doesn't see it. I really wish it could, that's why I want drive mount to work so badly. I'm not sure why it's not working though. It did before, but now that there are files on it won't. If I can fix that, I'm fine waiting for ICS.

so are you stuck with the stock bootloader? or can you download CWM and flash an alternate recovery? if you can do that (does that apk require root access??? I honestly do not know???) then there are all the stock and rooted OS's here on XDA somewere? if CWM does then cant you still get one of the older OS's (rename it update.zip) and flash it with the stock recovery image? if any of this is simplistic I appologize just trying to help, I should probably stay out of it and let the experts help...
I'm stuck with the stock bootloader. I never got a chance to flash a recovery.

[RECOVERY] Clockworkmod Recovery TOUCH 5.5.0.4 | everything works except adb (5/15)

I am currently working on porting gweedo's touch recovery to the touchpad. So far I have a working clockworkmod 5.5.0.4 with the cool battery percentage mod but the touch part is not ready yet.
I just wanted to release this as a fully functional recovery (except adb).
1) boot into clockworkmod
2) mounts and storage >> mount /boot
3) adb push uImage.CWMRT5504 /boot/uImage.CWMRT5504
4) reboot and see it in the moboot menu
The touchscreen driver doesnt work but this is a completely working clockworkmod recovery (backups, restore, installing zips, etc.) (except adb)
Thanks

I played around and it works pretty well! No bugs that I could find.
The only feedback I would give is that when you flash ROMs it sucks that the soft touch keys on the screen get in way of a lot of the wording. The horizontal blue line also would strike through words and it looks cruddy.
Any way to change where the message output is placed?
Can't wait to try this out. Keep the work going.
Can someone post mirrors for the downloads. They are both down.

this should be fixed in this beta 14. and also the links are updated to an unlimited bandwidth server.
I hate to be "that guy," but I looked into this before and I don't think you can get the touchscreen working. On the TouchPad, the screen is controlled by a userland-based driver versus a kernel based driver. That's swell, but since CWM is basically only a kernel, it can't load the driver. I'd love to have someone prove me wrong, really. I just couldn't figure out a way to load it on CWM
Also, you're compiling it wrong if it only works temporarily when flashed. I believe that's like "make kernel" (or the equivalent, it's been awhile lol). I can'r remember the correct command, but I might have solved it by compiling CM and then removing the recovery portion? *shrug*
Good luck, though! I meant this to be taken as someone sharing their knowledge to help others, not as a deterrent. Please, continue with this and make an awesome CWM!
I'm not a kernel/recovery dev so I wouldn't even know where to begin looking at this but I know there was a touch based recovery back before CM9 called TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP). Maybe it might help to look back at how they got it working and see if the same process can be used for CWM?
Here's the link to the original thread with TWRP thread.

Hope it helps. I would like to see this work. I love the touch based CWM on my GNex.
Is this still in development?
so finally got mounts to work so this is now a fully functional recovery. the only things not working are the touch options and adb. once i get ts_srv to initialize then swipe gestures will finally work. but for now its still at least a good recovery.
So everything in the touch recovery works besides the touch?

you should really edit the main subject line, since no adb and no touch do not equal "FULLY WORKING RECOVERY." Not sure why anyone would bother using it at this point to be honest

You may want to search on "Aroma File Manager" (gui file manager you kick off from within recovery by installing the .zip) and see if you can potentially add a direct link to it in recovery...that would be VERY useful addon nobody else currently has as aroma file manager is relatively new.
The aroma touch installers are on most of the roms for my Xperia Arc. I wouldn't say nobody's using them yet as its the latest trend amongst developers. An aroma installer could benefit the touchpad community for those who want to choose what they do and don't want in the rom. But I'm gunna assume for the moment that if a touch recovery won't recognize touch that aroma probably won't work either.

Well it is a fully functional recovery. Any recovery aspect you need (backup, restore, install, fix permissions) ALL work. Therefore, it's a working recovery. Touch is an extra and not a requirement to use recovery. So next time you should try thinking before you put down your ignorant ideas.
