Hi guys,
I was backing up mu photos the other day and realized my camera shots from my stock, non rooted days were much better.
First, yes I am on a sense ROM, and yes I searched both XDA and google.
Does anyone have the stock camera apk from the official ROMs froyo or gingerbread? I wouldn't mind testing to see if the "old" cameras really were better.
I rarely use my phone for video, but lots for pics. I do not want opinions on what ROM has a better camera, just the stock one so that I can do a backup, test the old one, and compare images.
Once I have the old apk, I will even post comparison photos if anyone else is interested.
Thanks
Umm I think the problem is not HTCcamera.apk
In my opinion the problem is GB kernel
maybe you should download a stock rom nad just take the cam apk out of it ?
+1 for this.. I have the same feelings about photos but I never actually compared.
There's also the ol' scratches on the battery cover's lens issue.. Have you checked that yet? Didn't really specify in what way your new photos are not as good..
The problem is GB with sense, if you want better pictures then use a froyo sense rom or if you want GB you can try Miui or CM 7.10 roms, all the others they make dark pictures when using the flash in the dark.
Thanks for the replies guys, I have the official Telus Froyo ROM but as an RUU. I'll download a rooted stock froyo ROM and do 2 things,
1. Pull the apk and try with my current GB ROM
2. Backup, flash a rooted stock froyo and test.
And yes, I did think of the scratched cover thing, I removed the cover and took pics.......they still lok like sh** compared to my old stock froyo photos.
It migt be a GB thing though, my photos from my LeeDroid froyo ROM days look way better as well.
Thanks again, when I have the time to do all the necaesary backing up, flashing and restoring I'll tack pics and test this out.

i don`t think the problem is gb sense
I agree that the original froyo camera has better quality but not that much better. I use miui and it has a fairly decent camera (with full screen 4mp). It doesn't have 720p video but the video is a lot smoother, tho still not much in terms of quality.
This probably doesn't really help anyone, but the Desire's camera isn't very good to begin with. Honestly, being a photography enthusiast, I am usually quite disappointed with the picture quality from the camera. My previous two phones are Sony Ericsson; A W810 followed by a W960. Despite the W810 having only 2MP and the W860 having 3.2MP, they still took FAR better pictures than the 5MP on the Desire. Especially with the W810, I was thoroughly impressed with it's picture quality and low light performance. Sure the Desire's photos look good on it's screen, but full size on a monitor typically leads to cringing.
I've been considering moving back to Sony phones, specifically the Arc (S). I just need to get some play time with one to test out the camera and ergonomics..
So you're saying that you're a photography enthusiast and you need a phone with a good camera. What do you need it for? An enthusiast always carries some sort of a true (dedicated) camera with him, be it a compact, dSLR or a SLR.
i have same problem after i rooted phone. i installed runnymede ROM but still quality of photographs are not same my first photographs with this phone, nothing changed:S

Try carrying an awkward couple of pounds around with you everywhere.. My phone is on me at all times anyway, so when I see something inspiring, I use what I have. I don't see any point in also carrying a point-and-shoot when I know that a commendable camera can be put into a phone (ie iphone4, Nokia 808) but typically isn't these days.
HtcCamera APK attatched
Attached HTC Camera APK but I dont know if it would do any good. From Runnymede AIO Special Edition.
Did it work?

Same question here...
Following this thread with interest because I know what the TS-er means. Pictures taken with a stock Froyo or GB rom have better quality and especially brighter flash in dark conditions.
I believe this to be kernel-related. My phone's on An-Droid 2.2.0 now (imho the best rom for our devices) and with the custom kernel that comes with it the camera's flash doesn't 'peak' at the moment a picture is taken. Flashing the stock kernel (or an snq one) changed this and now the camera flash is ok again.

If you use a port its normal i trink, but with most aosps pole cyanogenmod its the same for me
I have HTCCamera.apk from USCC froyo stock rom. I already try to install with adb push and reboot, but the camera app won't show up in app list. I want to change the camera.apk from CM7 because the result and features is not good enough. Can I use HTCCamera.apk in CM7?
Related
the picture and video quality on stock tmobile KB5 is way better than the miui/cm7 camera quality. the blacks on stock rom are actually black, while on the miui rom blacks appear as pixely red. not sure if its the app, or the rom that causes this but recording videos and pictures in the dark is horrible on miui
Ok, and this thread serves what purpose to your issue?

I was trying to find a solution, settings in voodoo app made it look all weird. Lowered the rgb sliders and fixed the problem.
That's odd, I am running MIUI Beta 7.1 (or something ) and the camera is probably one of the best I have used on any ROM. Perhaps flashing back to stock and then reflashing? Might be something left over from one of your old ROMs.
EDIT: Glad you found a solution.
It is crap. Read around. Its cute and all with menus but the image quality is balls. especially the camcorder. Im looking for some kind of flashable or modded camera/camcorder that will work better also.
noob question i know but... what do ppl mean by stock?
Stock is the original out of the box software on the phone.

Hi guys, i'm going to leave for holiday so i have to decide between CM7 and stock to take some good shots, and here we are.
I just took these two photos, but i won't tell you which is the one taken with CM7 (i used LgCamera as app). CM7 photos should look worst
Which is the worst one for you?
looks the same
Viewing the pics on my Desire HD I'd say the first pic looks worst. The red edges seem less crisp than those on the second pic.

the hardwood floor looks better in the first photo, but the second one has better contrast. try a new batch without flash
Second one hands down

There is no flash, the light is coming from a window
I'd say the first looks better. Less blurred text on "the godfather"-logo. However that could just be you holding the camera better
First better .
jje
second one better!
Third better
1st is better without a doubt mate

Btw, I'm going to assume that you took the photos on a tripod?

The first one.
I Would say the first one. It has more details on it. Think it's the Stock on.
really curious..
ps: why not a poll?

Not a poll because i forget about it, it's a fail by me.
BTW the first one was shot with CM7, so that means CM7 with LgCamera does photos at least as good as the stock OS

Nice there is really little difference between the pictures.
The comparison is possibly isnt fair because of your natural movement. without a stable tripod, who knows which one had a disadvantage because of an extra movement.

This 3d was just to let me see if CM7 photo is atleast as good as the stock one, and i don't need a tripod to do this. It's not a professional test or stuff like that
flash nightly 9 and you'll not need lgcamera anymore.
happy holidays.

Has anyone tried the newer sense camera with panorama capabilities, on the stock sense 1.0 rom. I want to try it, but don't get enough time to dissect the .zips

It won't work on the Sense 1.0 rom, unfortunately.
I was afraid of that. So the interchangeability of things between 2.1 and 3.0 are exclusive to the newer versions of sense only and not with 1.0.
Sent from my phone
Correct. Certain things from Sense 2 have been backported to work with our version of Sense, (quick settings, Skyraider4) but that usually takes a ton of work and isn't always possible. I know ihtfp tried to get the newer camera working awhile back, but it didn't turn out so well.
I've used panorama a number of times on Sense 3.0 ROMs, and the picture quality is only so-so. Not sure if it's because it exists as an option on a phone (limited on the software side), or becuase it's intended for a slightly different image sensor (limited by our hardware). It's like it crams 180* of landscape into 135* of picture field. There are also some contrast issues from one side to the other. The first shot is always darker than the others.
Does HDR work for anyone? I can take a picture with HDR selected, but the result is indistinguishable from a regular shot of the same subject.
My LG ally had panorama mode and I took some great pics with it. One of them I'm trying to put on google earth.

Hey gang, every since I rooted my EVO 4G with Digital Karma V.6, the camera has been less than stellar! It takes horrible photos, and they are overexposed, under exposed, washed out, etc, and I have tried every setting, changing ISO, light sources in different rooms, different settings outside, and nothing helps as far as uniformity! It used to take great pics, but now, not so much! Anyone else have this issue, or is there a fix possibly for this such as the original app for the stock rom? I have also tried using different apps to no avail!
Other than that the Rom is great and I am not interested in changing/upgrading right now!

Yep. Back up everything.
I've recently switched from an AOSP rom to DK 7.77 do to camera issues (everything with a flash came out waaaaay to bright), all the ICS roms I have tried seem to be too dark and dull. While its not perfect I would suggest trying the jackpot edition with the latest underworld kernel, seem to give the best quality, not perfect but better

Hey hope you got things figured out for your camera problems! Some great suggestions have already been made.
I have a request if its not too much trouble. Anyway you could change the title of your thread? It could give the wrong impression to someone new, and leaves the impression there is something wrong with that ROM, which is not very fair to the dev or others.
Thanks

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a lg g2 (hasnt arrived yet), but I read about the terrible camera afterwards and am wondering if I should return it. I currently have a htc sensation, i think that camera is ok, it at least has a quick shutter speed. I also used a sony z1 compact, although it takes great pictures, its slow as hell, it doesnt take a picture until 2-3 seconds after pressing the shutter.
1. is the camera is deal breaker? I tend to take spur of the moment pics so I need quick shutter speed
2. does the camera mod help much?
3. did the newest 4.4.2 update do anything to improve the camera? I'm not sure if what I read was before or after the update
4. are there any other major issues that I should be aware of?
I'm a simple person, I like to customize a bit but stability is most important. appreciate any responses that will help me decide. thanks

1. No it's not, shutter is pretty good and you have an option for multiple shots so don't worry about it, it's not a deal breaker.
2. Camera mod? Don't know any but if you will replace the rom you will lose the stock camera which is as I said pretty good, amazing photos in full light and nice photos in dimmed area.
3. Not that I know of, as a 4.4.2 user of the d802 I haven't noticed any difference.
4. I think that the most major issues on android in General is the memory consumption.
Also the stock 4.4.2 doesn't support ART which is a major update for kitkat, you can really feel the difference.
And ofcourse the damn LAG issues on stock rom which drives me crazy when I surf the web or open a PDF file which BTW the CM or any moded rom doesn't have these problems...
I hope you enjoy your new G2 phone but I would consider buying the G3 if you can

Its not really worth it, G2 is a great buy atm, with all the people going nuts for that extra resolution that isnt really worth it the G2's price has dropped and its specs are still some of the best, plus the G3's stock rom has mostly the same features(IIRC), its mostly just aesthetics changes that the G3 has over G2.
Also, there are G3's stock rom ports, what more do you need?
