[Q] CyanogenMod v7.1.0 to Gingerbread v2.3.4 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have successfully rooted my myTouch 4G following the CyanogenMod wiki and put CyanogenMod v7.1.0 on it. I've been kicking the tires for a few days and at this point, I'd like to try out the stock ROM while having root access. I'm new to rooting so this may be a stupid question but here goes...
Am I able to put the stock Gingerbread v2.3.4 back on the phone and retain root and S-OFF?

you might want to download the rooted version of stock 2.3.4.
this thread includes both rooted and unrooted versions, and has clear instructions on how to flash.
basically, it's how you flashed CM7.1:
reboot into recovery
1) DO A NANDROID BACKUP
2) wipe Data/factory reset, Cache, and Dalvik cache
3) flash stock 2.3.4 rooted rom
4) reboot, be patient
5) hit the thanks button
if you want to restore everything and start over, flash the non-rooted version:
here are clear instructions on how to flash to stock using the PD15IMG.zip file:
1) download the PD15IMG.zip file
2) rename the file to PD15IMG.zip if not already
3) place the file in the root of your SDcard, meaning not in any folders
4) power off your device, and reboot into hboot/bootloader by press and holding power + volume down buttons
5) hboot/bootloader should recognize the file, and ask if you want to update
6) select "yes", and wait for the update to finish
*Selections are made with the volume buttons, and hit the power button to select*
7) when the update is finished, hit reboot
8) wait for the device to boot up (may take awhile, first time boot only)
9) congrats, you are now back to stock Mytouch 4G, either 2.2.1, or 2.3.4
10) hit the thanks button!

That worked perfectly. Thanks button hit!

unrEVOked 3.1...to full root

Hello all,
I was one of those people who used the unrEVOked root to simply obtain wireless tether. Now that I have it, I cant update to Froyo. Would anyone be able to suggest a method to obtain full root so I can just flash a Froyo ROM?
FYI, I dont have adb shell or android sdk installed. I was looking at toast's method however I am unsure, if that is the correct path to march in. I have no problem learning adb shell if necessary.
Thanks in advance and look forward to buying someone a beer.
you can try SimpleRoot 1 click (check your software version as there are two separate SimpleRoot threads, one for 1.47.651.1 and the other for the older version)
I had unrevoked as well. This is what you need to do:
Download simple root.
Click button 1 root, follow prompts. reboot.
click button 2 recovery, select ra recovery. reboot.
Download rom, radio, and wimax. Put all into SD card.
Boot into recovery. (power & vol down)
wipe data, cache, dalvik.
Select update from sd. choose select zip file (not update.zip)
select rom zip, install. reboot
Boot into recovery. (power & vol down)
install radio, then wimax(same way as rom). Pretty sure you should reboot each time. That's what I did atleast.
That's it. I updated my profile afterwards in system updates to make sure no problems w/ data occurred.
hhhmmm ill have to try that! thanks!
Can anyone else confirm this?

You can flash some ROMs, including netarchy's rooted stock ROMs, without a "full root". Even though Unrevoked is not a full root, the NAND is unlocked when you are in the ClockworkMod recovery.

dairy of a madman

I've got me a xtc clip and found out the hard way to use it.
so far so good, S-off and I decided to get CWR to install a rooted rom
I installed CWR 3006 and so no Amend scripting and no Sense based roms
So I treid to downgrade CWR 3 to a 2version and failed.
Then I decide to downgrade 2.2.1 to use unrevoked to get root and hopfully downgrade CWR the sametime.
Yeah great the downgrade went fine but I got a touchpanel fail with several RUU i treid
what to do next I've manged to get CWR 3006 back on cause I made a nandroid backup and could reverse it
With that backup version running the touchscreen responded again alltouh in fast boot menu it still said touchpanel fail.
I've got me a full day of involving with my buzz and I'm back to were I started
very frustating.
I'm to stupid to downgrade CRW can't get root with unrevoked cause its telling me it can't flash recovery image
yeah you my laugh about me but I'm not giving up
I was wondering if someone could tell me how to downgrade CWR from 3 to a 2 version, I still don't have root and it needs to be noob proof please
i've tried so many times but always failed :-(
( if this post is offtopic pleace remove by a mod sorry I had to tell someone)
Install ROM Manager, and, install a Recovery through it. It will install CWM 2.5.0.7, and, entering Recovery Mode through ROM Manager will load up 2.5.0.7
This way, you will have both CWMs, 2.x and 3.x, which is exactly what I am following at the moment.
(Didn't read your entire thread, just went through the gist of it, sorry)
thanks for your answer
my problem is I still can't get root so I can not use Rom manager.
I've succeed in getting a lower Hboot to use Unrevoked
but it's given me "cant install recovery image", so I think it's conflicting with 3006
I do not know how to get rid of CRW and put the original one back in place.
By downgrading from a official RUU I get touchpanel-fail so I cant activate usb debugging and install from other then market this means so unrevoked can't do his job.
life is so frustrating sometime.......
me again I've been thinking about CWR.
to make a PC49IMG.zip of clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 with andriod-info.txt and the recovery.img. and give it a go.
will this function or am I just bricking the phone?
Since you have s-off:
Find fastboot binary (google)
save it somewhere
open terminal/command prompt. cd to the directory where you saved it ("cd /path/to/fastboot/")
reboot phone into bootloader. choose fastboot.
in command prompt/terminal type
$fastboot flash recovery <recoveryfile.img>
where recoveryfile.img is your recovery image (including the path to it, or just save the image wherever fastboot is)
edit: wait a minute, you downgraded your bootloader after getting s-off? WHY ON EARTH??? you crazy?
Id say some semi skimmed milk
thanks nhnt11 for your answer
to your question of downgrading bootloader got it up again
installed a oficial RUU froyo and started all over again, it solved the touchpanel fail and I installed a CRW 2.5 and I'm back in bisness
this is how I succeeded:
"Dont try to downgrade and get root with unrevoked this will end up in a touchpanel-fail ( and you have to upgrade a Ruu froyo to get rid of it)"
Get S-off with xtc clip
2.2.1 Stock Rom Rooted : http://www.multiupload.com/JSAWVUC88O
Recovery, Radio Update: http://rapidshare.com/files/451971561/PC49IMG.zip
1) Download Above Files
2) Copy PC49IMG.zip to the Root of your SD Card
3) Copy the Rooted Stock Rom to the SD Card and rename it to update.zip
4) Reboot your phone into Hboot Mode by pressing Volume Down and Power
5) It will now ask if you want to update the firmware select Volume Up for Yes.
6) Remove the SD Card and Reboot Back to Hboot Mode and select recovery using Volume Down then Power to select.
7) You should see a nice ClockWork Recovery system.
8) Reinsert the Gold Card and select apply update.zip from SDcard.
9) Let that finish then do a Wipe data/factory (Will Loose All Data and Settings only perform if your going to use another Rom!)
10) Do a wipe cache partition and in advance do wipe dalvik cache.
11) Reboot phone and Enjoy your Rooted Wildfire with Hboot 1.01.001.
thanks and credit go to hacktrix2006 of xtc
is this going to work on the Aria?

Rooted (S-off) 2.2 - how to apply 2.3 update?

I've dug through every thread trying to find this answer, and I have no idea why nobody can answer it!
For the sake of clarity, here's what my About Phone screen says:
Andoid Version:
2.2
Kernel Version:
2.6.32.17-g9ab3677
htc-kernel[at symbol]and18-2 #1
Build Number:
1.22.531.8 CL277427 release-keys
Obviously the OTA fails when I try it (and the little notification keeps popping up every 15 minutes reminding me of the update). I have ClockworkMod and root, s-off. I want to somehow get 2.3. How should I go about doing it?
Flash VirtuosROM 2.0.0, its 2.3 stock with enhancements
Sent from my Desire Z
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143
This one is completely stock pre-rooted 2.3.4 OTA. Flash in recovery. Wiipe data before flashing.
Doesn't replace radio or anything. this is just a ROM.zip
1. ok download the ROM of your choice
if you want vanilla android i recomend Cyanogen mod 7 latest nightly which is android gingerbread 2.3.5 with some tweaks (if you dont know what vanilla android search a video on youtube or search for pictures)
if you want sense i recomend virtous sense with is android gingerbread 2.3.3 with sense
2. create a folder named ROMs in your sd card and put the ROM zip in there
3. a.go to ROM manager and tap on reboot into recovery or...
b.turn off your phone hold the volume down key and press the power button, youll boot into the bootloader, from there select recovery, or...
c.turn off your device press the hold the camera button and press the power button, youll boot into recovery
4.once in recovery select reset factory settings, then wipe data cache partition, then go to advanced> wipe dalvik cache, then reset bettery stats
5.after that go to install zip from sd card find your ROMs folder select the zip and flash it!
6.reboot your device and enjoy
remember to make a backup before doing all of this so you can go back to your stock ROM at any time or if anything goes wrong! (you can make the backup thru rom manager or directly in recovery)
also backup your apps (mainly the ones u really use) with titanium backup which you can download free from the market
You do not want the OTA, or to flash any official updates. If you do, you will lose root. Flash the pre-rooted versions posted above, or a custom ROM.

[Q] Cannot update to ics after rooting.

I rooted my motorola defy using SuperOneClick. It said rooted successfully and I got a superuser app in my menu too. Now, I downloaded ics 4.0.4 firmware package and latest google apps and unzipped it to my sdcard. When I turned off my phone and then switched it on again by pressing poweron+volumedown key, an android icon with an exclamation mark came denying me root access. Please tell me what to do now.
You got it all wrong .
1) You never unzip the rom or gapps
2) Android exclamation mark isn't denying root access, it's just stock recovery, which you can access be pressing both the volume keys together.(but you don't need to do that)
3)After you root your phone ,install defy 2nd init(you can search it in the forum)
,which will install clockworkmod recovery on your phone.
4)flash the rom and gapps through that recovery(press vol down when led turns blue on restart to access recovery)
you can search for detailed threads in the forum.
Okay, I did what you asked me to, installed 2nd init. Did everything. Place the zip file in sd card. Pressed volum down when led turned blue. Unzipped the ics package. Done.
Now, when I rebooted my phone, I got a blue animation saying cynogenmod 9 and that animation is now going on forever. It is not rebooting my phone.
Put out the battery, put it back, start your phone, ready!!
If not, make a factoryreset in the custom-rom-section under stable or latest and reboot.
Okay. You ARE a noob! Sorry, but this really is funny! The op seriously has NO clue what he is up to! My advice: stay away from custom roms until you know what its all about. READ the guides!
Unzipping the rom and flashing it through stock recovery?? Are you trolling??
sent from my Defy+
Hahaha.
Ok when the light goes blue press vol -
1: Go to custom recovery,
2: Wipe data/cache
3: Go to advance
And wipe delvik and battery stats,
4: install update from sd card pick your rom your flashing,
5: Install update from sdcard again pick the kernal you want to flash ie cm9 kernal
6: install update from sdcard chose your gapps you want and flash it.
Do step 1 2 and 3 again then reboot your phone.
You scroll with volume buttons and pick with power button.
If you get stuck just search.
Hope this helped.

before posting for help, you should read all the posts and get some information about flashing roms..
and, to solve your problem, you should enter to the recovery (volume down on blue led) and wipe data, wipe cache partition and go to advanced -> wipe dalvik cache.. then your phone should start without any problem

Huawei U8800 Aurora ROM Questions

Hi all!
This is my first post and I am new to rooting so I will not know as much advanced techniques/terms so please be patient.
I decided to root my phone to install a custom ROM (Thats what everyone wants, right?), more specifically to get a newer version of Android. I found the Aurora ROM by Dzo and I flashed 2.04 and it seems very fluid and fast. I didn't upgrade from the official 2.3 because I couldn't find the files. I'm really liking the ICS environment.
My first question is: How do I find/install a baseband? I want to use this as my daily ROM and I can't do much without signal.
Second, My battery indicator is not working and how do I fix this?
Thirdly, When I put the device to sleep for about 5 secs or more it will not wake up and reboots. Is this fixed with a later patch?
And lastly, What upgrade pattern should I use to get up to 5.0? (e.g. 2.04-2.5-2.6 etc or jump straight to a version and go from there)
Thanks in advance
First of All,you must install official gingerbread for install ICS.
Your problems (battery and baseband) are causing by old amss.bin (baseband) and old bootloader.
First, install official gingerbread with code name V100R001C00B518G001. If you install this version, you must not do root for install Aurora ICS.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lws54xxb3lcm7di
If you install it,You must install CWM 5.0.2.8 or CWM 5.0.2.7 or CWM 6.0.2.8 or CWM 5.5.0.4 or TWRP Recovery. My prefence is install CWM 6.0.2.8
Here is 6.0.2.8;

1.Download the recovery
2.Remove SD Card and delete dload folder in phone's internal memory (if exists).
3.Power on the device while pushing volume up and down buttons.
4.If the pink screen appears, connect the phone to PC and wait for detect the phone
5.Rename downloaded img file to recovery.img and copy it to image folder in mass storage in Pink Screen
6. Download latest Aurora 5.0 and update 20 and copy those files to your sd card.
7. Power On the phone while pressing volume up button.
8. Backup the system to your sd card
9. Do "Wipe data/factory set"
10.Install Aurora 5.0,then install update 20
11.Reboot the system. And that's it! Enjoy the ICS

You can install offical gingerbread on rooted ROM. You don't need to wipe because the system will do wipe automaticly
No. You do not have to wipe. But you can if you want.
To install official gingerbread, you can install it over a rooted or a non rooted device. It doesn't matter because when you install gingerbread. The device will automatically be un rooted. You would have to root your device again after installing official gingerbread.
The easiest way to root gingerbread is to use SuperOneClick. Here is a tutorial for rooting your gingerbread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
In the link above, just do the steps under 'Rooting the U8800 with SuperOneClick v2.3.3' and 'Installing ClockworkMod 5.5.0.4 on your U8800'.
I hope I helped. Good Luck and have fun rooting!
When I try to flash the Gingerbread ROM, It says Installation aborted. Why is this?
I am using CWM 5.5.0.4
That's not right...

You do not flash official firmware with CWM.
You must extract the file that you have downloaded.
After extracting it, keep going into the extracted files until you find a folder called 'dload'.
Copy this dload folder to the root of sdcard.
Now, power on your phone by pressing and holding down the power + volume up + volume down buttons all together.
The phone will automatically start installing the official android 2.3

If you don't understand anything then you are welcome to ask me about it. I will explain it to you.
Good Luck!

You don't need to pass boot animation. Do this;
1.Download the recovery
2.Remove SD Card and delete dload folder in phone's internal memory (if exists).
3.Power on the device while pushing volume up and down buttons.
4.If the pink screen appears, connect the phone to PC and wait for detect the phone
