Does anyone know if there a difference between the two. I want to change my version from 2.33 to 2.34.
Since you didn't provide a whole lot of information, I'll just guess:
You are referring to the virtuous unity rom. (If you're not, disregard the rest and provide more info)
The correct place to look for changes between to versions is this, unfortunately the site is currently down, so you're out of luck.
Out of curiosity: If you wish to upgrade your rom, why not upgrade to the most up-to-date version which is 2.39?

If you refer to Android versions 2.3.3 vs 2.3.4, the only difference seems to be the addition of voice and video chat using Google Talk.

Os-version number doesnt say nothing to me, is bigger number newest?
Example: Is 5.2.19949 newer than 5.2.19588?
Please, tell me?
Nobody knows? :O
You are starting on the wrong foot
Even as you are asking new ones are coming out, so how can anyone tell you the "latest"? Trowl through all the roms and test the ones you like. Sorry that is all I can say

Well. I asked about version numbering rules, is bigger version number newer?
Not necessarily. I use release dates as guide. Eg UDK released one today which has a lower number than most ones floating around

The last 5-digit number is the build or revision number. Largers number (if the two before are the same) means a newer build/revision.
But newer does not equal better. I'm not sure where the cooks get these revisions from, but they are probably not thoroughly tested and official Microsoft releases.
Some cooks always try to use the newest build, and that might give them some "street cred", but I prefer the ones using the tried and tested builds compared to the new, unknown and untested ones.
Also the OS revision does not really say much about the ROM as a whole. It's what the cook has done to it, how it's tweaked and that apps are included that differentiate them more than the OS revision.

19588 = HTC Diamond ROM (port)
19214 = latest ATT Kaiser ROM
As you can see you can't just take the highest build number to be sure you have the latest ROM.
If you really want the latest ROM you have to:
1. Be willing to flash your device multiple times per week as new builds are released from various ports.
2. a good tip, like mentioned above, is to take a look at the release date for the ROM given by the cook himself
Hey All,
I just switched from my HTC Touch PRO to the HTC Hero. I use Sprint as a carrier and I am looking forward to getting used to the Android platform. My phone is running the following rom.
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband: 1.04.01.09.21
Kernel: 2.6.27-533ce29d
Build: 1.29.651.1
Software: 1.29.651.1
Anyhow, I was wondering if I could upgrade to 2.73.405.5 ROM. I know that this is available for Europe but I don't see it for US yet. Is there a big enough difference between ROMs that I would not be able to upgrade?
Thanks for the help in advance and I hope to be able to contribute to the community with so apps.
The problem with having the US version is that it is (correct me if I am wrong) the only CDMA android device so far. Although 1.6 Donut should have CDMA support, it was not included, so they opted to modify 1.5 to make it work. Anyway, the point is this:
1) we will see some official update in the next month or so from Sprint, HTC, or maybe android 1.6 (?)
2) We are all in need of root access to the phone to start getting some cool ROMs, the new radio, wifi-tether, etc

I second both of these I have been reading about problems with this phone and it seems to me that they are all related to the modification of the 1.5 rom to make CDMA work and to get it out to the consumer as soon as possible
Can someone provide me with a Nandroid backup of the Sprint Hero ROM? If so, i'm happy to do a MoDaCo Custom ROM for it?

Have we confirmed whether the kernel vulnerability is fixed on the Sprint Hero?

As has been already stated, chances are if you "upgraded" to an EU ROM your phone wouldn't work any more due to lack of CDMA support in the EU builds.
However, thus far we've no evidence that the Sprint build is a "lower" build than the EU versions, as the build number sequence seems to be totally different. Apparently the Sprint Hero shipped with the Sense UI performance enhancements that we now have in EU 2.73 builds, so it seems to me you're unlikely to gain anything anyway. In fact, you'll just lose stuff like the Sprint specific apps.

Dave
hey thers is a new system dump from sprint hero available here....can anyone tell me dat is dat possible for me to flash it on my phone...
http://www.androidspin.com/component/content/article/3-latest-news/169-new-sprint-hero-system-dump
It's almost certainly just a dump of your existing ROM. As the thread you posted suggests, it's for devs only and you shouldn't attempt to flash it.

Dave

didn't it just get released today? And yeah search is my friend.... Just didn't see a point to do another search from the one I did yesterday if this thread wasn't updated as I was assuming with the title it would be easier for us sprint users to see this thread is for the cdma version but alas my mistake

Check out www.miui-dev.com/
It's pretty much the official English MIUI site. They will have anything you need. Also, it's the phone model that's important, not so much the hboot and radio.
Ah ok, Well then it BrovoC // CMDA (Cellular south) Thanks anyway for website.
Also, I forgot ask one thing, do I need to have 2.2 Froyo for MiUi to work or current 2.1 would work for CMDA MiUi -_- sorry!
Hi there,
I was just wondering how to install a Froyo Rom (With A2SD Support, and 2.1 Android Version). I was wondering about this because they're saying something about "Radio Versions" and I have absolutely no idea what that means. Is it to connect to your mobile carrier? Mine's Virgin Mobile Canada, does it make a difference? I really need to know, because I can't take my chances with this phone. How do I know what radio versions I need for the Rom? Do I install it like a normal Rom? I also want one that has root access. Does that make a difference? Thanks for the help because I'm really confused at the moment. Thanks.
PS: I've searched everywhere for a 2.1 Froyo Rom but still can't find one, can someone please give me the link? The reason I don't want 2.2 is because the last time I used a 2.2 Froyo Rom I couldn't get reception to my carrier (Virgin Mobile), and I know I did something wrong, so I'm asking for advice now. Thanks.

Hi, firstly, please read as much as you can before posting
Now, the reason you can't find 2.1 Froyo is because there is no such ROM. Froyo is a codename for Android 2.2 ROMs, just as 2.1 ROMs have codename Eclair etc...
So if you want Froyo, you want 2.2.
As I have told you in the other thread, read stickies in Development. To get root access, you have to root first - not sure if you have done that, but anyway, read some howtos on rooting any other techniques and you will find out how to fllash a ROM.
Abot the Bell canada thing, I think you are on WCDMA there, which means you have to have a Radio for that - that's what the fuzz is about(about different versions of radios and their receptions). But I'm not sure if you even need a special radio, you'll have to find out in development.
Here are STICKIES
Good luck!
Hi.
I'm a bit in doubt on which verion of Android is on my GT540.
I think it's 2.1, but want to know if it's correct.
Please see the link here:
Oh, I'm so new, that I'm not allowed to show links :-(
I then do it this way:
Firmwareversion: 2.1-update 1
Kernelversion:2.6.29
If it is 2.1, and I want to upgrade, shall I then follow which versions ?
I mean is there an order of hierarchy ?, and if so how does that look ?
Yes it seems you are running official LG 2.1 rom. If you wish to update it you can jump directly to any rom you like 2.2 2.3 or 4.0 . Just follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747
@-Grift-
Hi and many thanks for your reply. Was good to know that
Another matter if you can tell me it ?.
I have installed Navdroyd, and SVOX.
I have my mother language to work ok IN SVOX, but not
when I run Navdroyd.
Should the GT540's built in text-to-speech be deselected, and if so how.
Sorry i dont use Navigation or Text to speech apps
All ok and understood
Maybe another one that knows about it will jump in.
Thanks anayway
Yep im sure someone will
IT IS 2.1
I m sure it is 2.1
