[Q] are this beginner problems? :-) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
Im using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498&highlight=hd2+ndt+miui as my frist ROM. Installation /flashing was flawless and the system works - it's a great improvement over Win mobile 6.5. Nice job, langthang, thank you soo much!
Since I'm brand new to the custom ROM thing I wonder if these issues are caused by the ROM or by myself because I'm inexperienced:
HD2 switches Power on if USB is plugged in.
When I connect it to my power supply, my phone starts. Is this because because some kind of Wake Up function is enabled?
synchronising contacts fails
I am using funambol to sync my contacts. Problem: Only some contacts got sync'd to my HD2. Most didn't. While this could very well be an data format issue, I also have a problem with the facebook app. As soon as I activate contact / friends sync, the Facebook app will hang my system. It will eventually reboot then.
MIUI browser tends to hang the system
I tried several times to start the browser by using a URL within a mail. Often this causes a hang condition. When deleting cache and data, everything works fine again.
Any idea what causes these problems?
kind regards
Olaf

1 - magldr cannot charge phone when phone is off, so it powers on when it detects power.

Stable version 5.0 has facebook issues. Try flashing tytungs r14 kernel to increase stability, there's a link to a miui-compatible version on langthang thread

If you wont to charge your phone while it's off or when booting, then you have to go to CLK mode.

Does WhatsUp work?

I think I'll stay with magldr, works nice and it's a rather small obstacle, I can neglect that.
@samsamuel: Thank you for pointing that out.
Does whatsup work with the 5.1? It won't launch successfully on my version.

Thank you jwchips, but I already have 5.1 flashed. The facebook app recently earned some bad comments about stability so I won't blame langthang's work for this.

(Possible solution) Freezing Issues

hardik119 has found out that going to account & sync and disabling background data has stopped his device from freezing and it has also stopped mine afer 1 hours use. Before it was freezing about every 5 minutes. With doing this I have also disabled setCPU, auto screen rotate and removed gsensor.dll in windows mobile. Please try this out and respond if this has worked for you because maybe we can get a perminant solution. Thanks and also thanks to hardik119 for his extensive testing and possible solutions he is finding all the time Android is usuable on my device hopefully will be for everyone else aswel. Also sorry for opening another thread but there doesn't seem to be any action on hardik119's original thread.
maybe suggested solution works...but...wot is android without data background?
If you disable background data, doesn't that like stop gmail and weather and such updating automatically??

As has been suggested above...that is kind of /fail.
I'd prefer to live with the occasional few second freeze than not have constant updates.
I applied the RC 7 and my screen freezes are gone. Using this image with mattc nexus 1.0 rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756513.
Pretty sure he's just looking for testers to confirm the association. That way developers can narrow down the cause of the issue and possibly fix it. Stop whining about the "solution" he suggested.
Touchscreen freezes still exist
No freezing issues as long as you get the right WM build and android port. Mine is 100% freeze free thanks to the awesome devs here at Xda.
I have auto screen rotate on and still no freezing or SOD. I am using Darkstone's 2.1 build full time now.
Fyi.

Giving some details about your setup, WM Rom, Current android build/zImage radio etc. might help people participate more. Data connection does cause some freezing but if your saying you were getting freezing every five minutes before you turned it off, then something sounds wrong as mostly people are reporting little or no freezing.
You mention the G sensor and this is a known problem and a work around is to calibrate the G sensor in WM before turning on android, this has helped me.
I also find the kernel has an impact, I found freezing in all the undervolted/ overclocked Images, although Michyprimas latest kernel is the best to date, I have not had a freeze yet.
I found that the stock ZImage from 23rd August had no freezes in my setup.
I've no doubt that the sd card is playing some role and you may wish to experiment with changing that.
Im sure you've tried all this but you need to have the latest Hardspl V3. Do a task 29 to wipe your nand. Install a very light WM ROM, Im using my own WM 6.5.5 ROM but there is a better one by Miri V18 extra light and of course the one listed here such as chucky's ROM etc.
Format the SD card before installing the Android ROM.
Use radio v2.12.50.02.
Try Xcelsior ROM when I tested it I found it very stable.
If you already tried these thing and have had freezing every five mins, then I would suspect your sd card, but its just a guess.
There is a thread somewhere by cotulla asking for participants to isolate this problem so you need to submit your findings there (again if you have not done that)
Thanks for the tips currently using maths 1.5b Rom with 23rd kernel
Hspl3 & radio .12 aswel also tried with calibration on the g sensor in winmo and also deleting sensor.dll also using energy light but have also tried with Miri light the only build I haven't tried so far is the one you mentioned so will give it a go. Thanks

touch screen freez reason
I nenarly identified the reason of touch screen freezing ,,it is possibly in the touchscreen kernel ,download figure race from market and the touch screen fresez due to random pess of touch screen with both hands ,I think this is the main problenthl

Disabling sense doesn't make sense. Nothing runs in the background. Android is not emulated. Was it rebooting before rooting it?

Anything installed since then? Maybe something that relies on a schedule. How hot does the device run? It may be heating up and shutting down to cool off. Do any other Android builds replicate the same behaviour?
I have encountered the same problem. I just recently installed Android on my HD2 so I'm still new at this. When you say "rooted" what exactly do you mean? I'm running stock Rom v.3.14 with radio 2.15.50 and some mdj froyo build cannot remember which? It ran fine in the first week as far as I remember and then the rebooting started. My initial thought was that it was a program causing the rebooting or because I was running out of memory but a format of my SD card and then running android without installing anything didn't solve the issue. I'm perplexed and would really like to find a solution because I like android and would love to have it as my primary OS what Rom, radio etc are you using?

From what i am seeing it is not about how many apps you have eating up cpu triggering the reboot it is a or several rogue processes gumming up the works. check thes post for starters. let me know if this helps.

"apparently" nothing of the sort. Your HD2 reboots into android kernel, windows is NOT running in background.
Thanks Steve for recommending those apps. They are now installed but I'm not sure what exactly to look for but definitely good apps for troubleshooting. Although for some reason unknown my android has been running smoothly without any spontaneous reboot at all during the weekend!? I'm still experiencing heavy battery drain though but I'd prefer that over the spontaneous rebooting. I thought it had something to do with "angry birds" running in the background (paused and jumped to android main screen) that it somehow kept the phone from rebooting but the task has been killed/timed out and the android is still stable? The only thing different I have noticed in the OSmonitor log that there are no more "battery overpowered" (I think it was) warnings. I'm no tech/programmer so unfortunately I can't come up with a definitive answer. I'm just grateful that I can run android on my HD2 (bye Windows mobile) and I don't dare reboot my phone.
Kind regards Jimi

[Q] Android unstable. How to determine hardware malfunction?

I can`t find stable Android build.
The most common issue is boot-loop or whole application list crash every minute (according to ddms SDK tool)
I tried 15-20 different builds.
Even DFT Stock Desire doesn`t work on my phone: nonstop appcrash or bootloop.
Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z builds(NAND or SD doesnt matter): bootloop or whole application list crash 1-10 times in minute
Gingerbread/Cyanogen Mod 7 (small builds) (size<100mb) boots up, starts but: freezing, applist crash from time to time(once in half-hour). More stable.
Tried builds for ClockworkMod and DAF installation builds.
GB233/CM7 are more stable then others, but they are unusable on my phone because of freezing.
I tried the same builds on my friend`s HD2 and there were no problem with stability, small issues with robovoice e.t.c not a big deal.
I download and redownload builds, flash and reflash, do everything by instruction, always same result.
I guess the problem is hardware of my device, i need some advice how to determine the part and how to fix it(maybe change something in build config files, switch kernel, recompile kernel with some modules or additional options).
BTW: SD SuperRam build worked perfectly from WinMo6.5.
WinMo 6.5 and Windows Phone 7 work smooth - no complains.
Please help me out.
Some Android SD builds write in console output:
"Single bit error. Run memory test tool".
Configuration: WinMo1.66 => Task29(HSPL 2.08) + Radio 2.15 + Magldr 1.13
Sounds similar to my brothers HD2 problems but significantly worse. Superram worked great on his too but when Hr tried other SD and NAND builds he had issues. We have determined it must be a hardware issue. Two of my hd2s run fine. Don't know if there's a test or anything though...

Rafdroid
HyperDroid
CleanDroid
DLDesire
NexusHD2-Gingerbread
FrankinstinDroid
BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA

I think you have hardware problem, as mine.
I have continuous freezes or reboot especially when the phone is hot.
I tried to flash back also WM6.5 oem roms but nothing improved.
I tried also task29.
In my case the problem is simply retrievable... just start youtube (on every rom android/wm) and play a movie... and the phone freeze.
Today I'm calling HTC to understand how many months do they take my phone for repair!

Yes. In my case even if in WM (original ROM) I've freeze and reboots. At the beginning I didn't think so but after some tests expecially surfing web or watching youtube movies (both using 3G and not WiFi) I started to see freeze and reboots.
If in your case it's not so... effectively you're in a better situation.

I mean for example play some movies, download some youtube video, surf some complex web page, ... each time I tried by android/wm I had freeze or reboot. And as more temperature goes up as more frequent was the freeze/reboot.
Device became hot at the back-bottom.

[Q] System goes crazy when receiving a phone call

hi all
i have been using nand android builds since day one , and in most of the builds i am having this same issue
sometimes when i receive a phone call the system just hangsout and then gives me a force close msg for the phone application !!
either way , if i force close or not , no further phone calls can be answered and the phone will freeze for about 30 seconds with every call
also when this happens the volume buttons wont modify the volume for the media anymore and the phone wont give any sounds
so is there something i can do to get rid of this ?
i tried android builds based on 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 , miui , sense , no sense , and i have this issue with all of them
again , it happens like 10% of the times
hope i get an answer to this
I want to ask what exactly rom are you using (does it use newest tytung r10 kernel?) and tell you that I have not been experiencing these issues with NexusHD2 2.8 rom (2.3.4).
fpu
i tried typhoon , rafdroid , ndt miui , and plenty more and i think typhoon and ndt miui has the latest kernel
have you ever tried receiving a phone call while the camera application is running
this seems to trigger the issue many times , not always tho
if you have the call recorder running turn it off. it was causing me lot's of problems.

however... My rom feels a bit slower now.
I am playing with it now.
Maybe clearing Dalvik cache will help. Or the issue comes back... Will see.

Beside changing of radio, THIS seems to be interesting.
I'm on MAG but considering switching to cLK (for many reasons - fastboot support being one, second that I don't need 99% of MAGLDR features).
Let's see how it all pans out ;-)

It just happened again! On the new rom... :/
There is a thread, however, stating that it's due to skype.
This can very well be true.

but I need skype to stay on contact with my girlfriend... why can't android support skype natively instead of sipthings? -.-
Well still... anyone tried clk (instead of magldr) and skype?
Disable "Audible touch tones". It's under Sound in Settings, it did the trick for me.
I thought this was against robot voice?
well what ever. let's give it a try. Thx
In my case, first call after reboot always had the robot voice. To fix it I'd just hang up and call again. But lately on non-Sense ROM's, the first call would go with robot voice and then I would get Force close on the phone app. This fixed it for me.
BTW I have T8585 Leo with 2.12 radio.

For me recieving a call does nothing but a very bad noise. hd2 nearly freezes after that. I cannot hang up most of the times. If I somehow manage to, phone app forcecloses and connection cannot be reestablished until I pull out the battery...

Wildfire lose any internet connection when locked

Hi, i have some problems with my htc wildfire for some weeks ago:
When I lock my phone it lose all internet connections, mobile and wifi, and messages doesn't arrive in any app (whatsapp, gtalk, mail...).
It doesn't happend always in the same way, sometimes the messages comes late in whatsapp (without unlock) or i have to send a message to connect, and then all the messages arrive at the same time or all the messages arrive when unlock. In google talk i have to open the app, it acces and get all the messages.
It happends when the phone is locked, but is not instant, it gets messages but lose connection some time after i lock the screen.
I'm using cyanogenmod 7.0.3 stable and i flash the radio with no results. Also i flashed the rom doing all wipes again and the problem persits. It works nice until some weeks ago, i don't use any task killer and all the setting are well (sync, wifi sleep policy).
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.
Do you use any battery saving apps like juice defender?

Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
No, i'm not using any battery saver, a read about it in other posts.
And kernel should be good, it works fine until some weeks ago, otherwise i will try it but let me explain you something before:
I've downloaded a program called connection checker, from market, it does a connection status check per minute, but it does not work properly. When the program is open (not background) it does the checks well, when it is in background and the phone is unlocked it works fine too but when the phone is locked it does nothing, no check.
So it should be a problem with services that are not running properly. Is that a kernel problem? can it fails suddenly?
