[Q] Flashing A Rom on the Droid X - Droid X General

I recently rooted my droid x and I was wondering if I need to purchase droid 2 bootstrap recovery in order to flash a rom with rom manager? Btw im on the latest gingerbread ota update.

You will have to use Droid 2 Boostrapper.. regardless of where you find it =P

But if install a rom using rom manager will it use the droid 2 bootstrapper or will I just have to manually install the rom in recovery using the droid 2 bootstrapper? Sorry I haven't flashed on the droid x yet

Check my signature.
There is a link for a compiled bootstrap from the Droid 2 bootstrap source.
And flashing through rom manager will work as well, yes.

The boostrapper application installs the recovery so then you can use Rom Manager to flash roms. After you have used Droid 2 Bootstrapper be sure to update recovery through Rom Manager.

It is very stable. The unofficial nightlies by RevNumbers can be flashed over Gingerbread.

Droid X and Droid 2 Bootstrappers are NOT to be used with 2nd init roms such as CyanogenMod7. 2nd init roms have built in recovery, and using one of the bootstrap apps will mess your system up to the point you will have to SBF.

Well, that explains what happen to me!!

So use Droid 2 bootstrapper then after flashing use built in recovery that comes with cyanogen mod? Also does the camera on cyanogen mod work because I saw that there were some bugs. Also when I flash cyanogen mod and when another update cones out can I flash the updated one over the old one and keep my data from the previous or do I need to wipe data again? Finally when in cyanogen mod can I use Rom manager regularly without needed Droid 2 bootstrap?
Btw sorry if I have a lot of questions and thanks for taking the time to answer them

Use it to flash CyanogenMod, but afterwards dont use Droid 2 Bootstrapper AT ALL.
The camera works just fine in RevNumber's Unofficial CyanogenMod Nightlies, so flash his builds over Gingerbread.
When an update is released it can be flashed over your previous build without having to wipe, so you will keep all your data.
After you have flashed CyanogenMod Rom Manager can be used regularly with no need for Droid 2 Bootstrapper. If you use Droid 2 Bootstrapper you will screw up your phone.

Is it possible if you could link me to the latest cyanogen mod and when I checked koushes website and he gives out the Droid 2 bootstraper for free but the link doesn't work any ideas?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

Links to the newest CM and a working bootstrap are in my sig.

Ok so I have flashed the cyanogen mod rom and when ever the phone is charging the led light is on is there a way to fix this? And how long do you think it will take for the light to burn out?

recovery

How do I reboot into recovery mode? I know with the vibrant They have Rom Manager that install a custom recovery to install custom roms. is it one for the x? and which is most likely the best ROM? I've seen a lot of talk about apex and liberty. i found apex v1.4.1, don't know if that's the latest and Liberty 1.0.1.
Thanks in advance
First of all you should get Droid x bootstrap recovery app and make a nand backup if your thinking about custom roms.I don't know much about custom roms cause I don't use them but liberty 1.5 is the latest.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Liberty and apex are completely different roms in terms of apex keeping more of the blur aspects, i personally use apex 1.4 and i've used liberty 1.0, i actually missed some blur stuff that liberty didn't have and the battery life i got from liberty was actually really bad compared to even the stock rom.... i think you should try any roms you want so you can decide for yourself....
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Definitely get bootstrap as stated above... I'm currently running Liberty 1.5, loving it, and I'm planning on sticking with it until Cyanogen is released for the X; however, as also stated above, you should try different ROMs because they all have their own pros and cons. Check out the Dev forums for details on each.

Milestone X root

Hi everyone I have a rooted evo and I've rooted and unrooted a couple times and I am very compfortable with flashing roms because I do it all the time. My boss has a milestone x and she wants me to root it for her. I was wondering if someone could give me a list of roms that are stable and work well on milestone x also hotspot working! Also is there an amonra recovery I can put on. If anyone has the files I will need to root that would be great. On my Evo I just unrevoke then flash amonra and a Rom and its in business. Is there a big change on how to root this? Thanks a lot Droidxers I really appreciate it!

I recently purchased a milestone x the gingerbreak app worked for me
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I rooted mine using SuperOneClick root and it worked easily!
As for a working ROM I have read that it is a long process to make Droid X ROM's work with our APN's and it is possible to get stuck with Verizon's network so I haven't even tried it.
What I have done that has made the experience much different is install some apps and script's that 180'ed the stock ROM and make it feel like a completely different device.
Well this is what I did, I searched gingerbreak on 4shared . Com website, downloaded, open it, then press root. The root is successful when it turns off, if it doesn't work redownload another apk..
For the CMW recovory..I searched droid x bootstrapper, again on 4 shared..pressed bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery.
Far as custom roms go its not many that work on Milestone X, Liberty 2.0.1 does with no tweakin..
Miui and Cm7 works with a script kernel tweak seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=vxZ7cBt2K-Q you just have to delete the Verizon kernel script with notepad and save the changes..the exact tutorial is under "show more" under the video..that should work

DroidX 2nd init

Was just wondering how to check whether my X of on 2nd init or not...Rom Manager is dating that there is a new clockwork recovery but it is asking me whether I'm on 2nd init or just plain X. I'm on CM7 froyo and am about to flash the newest nightly. Thanks!

It's a different initialization process that allows for running roms such as CyanogenMod and MIUI. It's the same device and uses the same recovery.

So regular recovery won't work? I have no idea which one completed the flash, but it worked.
I used the free bootstrap app from the cm wiki.

I am confused by your post =P
When on CM7, recovery can just be flashed via ROM Manager (Droid X 2ndInit).
When on a blur based rom, one must first use Droid 2 Bootstrapper then flash an updated recovery via ROM Manager (Droid X)

You have to manually remove Superuser.apk from /system/app/ before you can root again.

when you say 'latest gingerbread' do you mean 2.3.5?
i have a rooted x on 2.2.2, and i want to apply the 2.3.5 update, but i am scared that it will break my root, if i understand correctly i can apply the update then adb shell to remove su and superuser then re-root using pete's? is that correct?
i rooted originally with superoneclick 1.9.1

Odd, I haven't come across an unrootable build for the Droid X.
Also, are you sure 2.3.5 is correct the latest version of Gingerbread for a stock Droid X is 2.3.3.

My droid pro is now running 2.3.4 and it is rooted.
